Re: PlatinumGames Thanks Players For Making Astral Chain "Such A Success"

Great game, 12 hours in now and only just discovered the achievement bit in the menu. I can see this one lasting a very long time.

Only negative is the detective work. Can become kinda boring just searching for people to talk to in order to gather red key words.

Hoping for DLC for some new suits in the form of cameo appearances. Like a Bayonetta suit, maybe even some Nintendo themed suits like Samus etc?

FYI Hotline Miami Collection is less than £4 on PS4 at the moment. I get that devs need to recoup money for porting a game but for there to be a 500% increase in difference on the switch version is atrocious

table top games have had a major resurgence over the last decade and the hobby has never been more popular. When people hear that I play board games they immediately think of cluedo, monopoly etc. Far from it. Table top games in many aspects can be far more entertaining than a video game. I urge anyone to try Pandemic (a co-op game where you're trying to save the world from deadly diseases) and then tell me they didn't enjoy it.

@YANDMAN I can only base it on production value looking from the outside. Compare it to other new games of a similar aesthetic and genre and there's many at around £20 or less upon launch. It looks like an indie title, not an AAA or AA or even A title. Hollow Knight was £13 for example. When I saw the trailers, the previews etc, I was expecting it to be £20. You can get most big titles for Switch for sub £40 at launch. Astral Chain for example, £38 online. Surely the budget and man hours going in to a game like Astral Chain is far greater than Bloodstained and yet it's only £3 more?

@BacklogBlues Slime San is hands down the best twitch platformer on the Switch, narrowly beating Celeste for me. The sheer amount of content and free DLC is astounding. Boss Rush modes, time attack modes, target mode like Smash Bros Melee, mini games that can be played multiplayer, decorating your home, tonnes of colour palettes, NPC's, high scores... The lot! On top of that the controls are perfect, and some of the mechanics have never been seen in a platformer before, period. Absolute bargain.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

Exciter89

Yes. And the reason why is there's no incentive to play the hell out of certain games. One glowing example is Yoku's Island Express. I finished the game in 5 hours, but only 52% complete. But afterwards there was no new areas to unlock, no new quests etc, no reason to continue playing it.

What I would like to see is real rewards for getting certain achievements. Things like themes, icons etc. Imagine getting X amount of achievements and getting a Yoku Theme to use on the Switch homescreen.

@Magrane for me, the visuals and soundtrack are second to none if you're a fan of 8 bit/ 16 bit. But then the controls are perfect, the progression system to upgrade your character is quality, there's tonnes of replay value to score bonus achievements in each stage such as taking no hits, using no weapons, using no special weapons etc. There's a campaign mode, endless modes, online leaderboards, an arcade mode with extra characters to be unlocked, dozens of colour palettes, loads of options to adjust the video settings etc. All round just a great value game for about £6 on the south African eshop
