Shovel Knight started out life as a Kickstarter project, so it’s rather fitting his very own board game will be funded the same way. Yes, that’s right; Shovel Knight is being transformed into a competitive side-scrolling miniatures board game for one to four players. The name of this game is Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels.
Players take on the role of different coloured knights to “shovel out justice in spades” against the evil Order of No Quarter, while trying to hoard as much treasure as possible.
“The core aspect of the game is all about trying to gather the most gold, whether it's from defeating enemies, digging up treasure mounds, damaging bosses, or even taking them from a rival Shovel Knight. We also have our own unique elements, like side scrolling tiles, jumping over spiked pits, equipping unique armor and accessories, and fighting against the dastardly Order of No Quarter!”
The Yacht Club-based board game is being designed by Panda Cult Games and at the time of writing has raised just over US$20,000, and requires a total amount of $80,000 – with 25 days to go. If you pledge $70 or more, you’ll get a copy of Dungeon Duels, one Shield Knight model and a hero card.
If you would like to find out how exactly to play the game, you can download a PDF version of the rule book or view the hour-long video demonstration below:

That is... very unique but I'll pass. I like Yacht games but not enough to get a board game, or give money to a kickstarter.
omfg, how bad i want it!!! I have never supported a kickstarter project before.. ill give it a try! I wanted to buy the binding of isaac card game, but i dunno why i passed it.. i love board games and shovel is my favorite indie on switch so far!!
I'm looking forward to the digital floundering comparison video. "Whilst not offering the same frame rate as PS4, its Fully optimised for the living room table. Version tested - IKEA pro"
I should so make a digital floundering spoof channel lol
Never understand board games based on computer games, so think I will pass on this.
I used to have Pacman boardgame when I was a kid where you bounced around the board collecting marbles, that was kinda fund actually, but once you lost all the marbles under the sofa/in the hoover/ eaten by the cat you were screwed.
table top games have had a major resurgence over the last decade and the hobby has never been more popular. When people hear that I play board games they immediately think of cluedo, monopoly etc. Far from it. Table top games in many aspects can be far more entertaining than a video game. I urge anyone to try Pandemic (a co-op game where you're trying to save the world from deadly diseases) and then tell me they didn't enjoy it.
Looks like a cool board game, and one that's not so complicated that it would put someone like me off.
@rex_rex you can still buy Issac at most board game stores. : )
Was wondering if you would cover this when I saw it pop up on kickstarter. I'm very tempted with this based in the minis alone.
@Ogbert I know, have you played???
Took them long enough.
@Bunkerneath Board games have come a looong way since then. Longer than video games probably.
@rex_rex I played and Binding of Isaac four souls is a very good game! I like it. I got the limited golden box edition from kickstarter and I glad I brought it. Balanced and fun!
How about we finish king of cards first there, please? My preorder on the amiibos is now closing in on 2 years. That's absurd, especially with the lack of updates.
@rex_rex no but I've heard good things!
Sweet! Looks like it may be fun.
It seems like they are really milking this character for what it's worth.
This looks like about $20 worth of game, $40 worth of minis, and a $10 tax for the brand name. I think I'll pass.
Recently, I have been feeling like my life doesn't have a purpose.
Maybe I can fix that by joining this Panda Cult.
