Re: Nintendo Removes Infamous Drugging Scene From Western Localisation Of Fire Emblem Fates

EllenJMiller

@Kurtz We live in odd times.

When you ban things for offending someone, where do you stop? We've someone in the comments who is offended by the presence of gay relationships in games. Should we remove gay relationships in games because of that? If not, why do we remove things that others find offensive?

Some might say "Well only a minority is offended by that, so no." Well, only a minority is offended by other things, so why yes to them?

Re: Nintendo Removes Infamous Drugging Scene From Western Localisation Of Fire Emblem Fates

EllenJMiller

It's okay to have content in games that makes people uncomfortable.

Of course, whether that is what actually happened in the scene and wasn't just massively misconstrued by someone known with a penchant for causing drama...

Edited to add: I've seen a lot of wrong information put out about Nintendo games in the past to make things seem worse. I remember it happening with Tomodachi Life, where one journalist said that characters automatically hate being dressed in clothes specified for the other gender. No such thing happens in the game. Characters might hate one piece of [other gender] clothing, but like another. Just like they might hate an item of clothing specified as their own gender, and like another. Efforts to find out if that was present in review copies didn't go any further due to trying to talk to NoA through e-mails being harder than pulling teeth from a frog.

Re: Editorial: Let's Make 2016 a Year of Nintendo Optimism

EllenJMiller

It was E3 last year that torpedoed my excitement, a massive whiplash from the previous year's. Worries about the localization changes in upcoming games have also dampened my spirits, with Genei Ibun Roku#FE being the main one I'm worried about, as I'm more intrigued by it than Fire Emblem Fates.

My purchasing preferences have shifted too. I'll shop around more to get a good price, and get regular editions over limited editions. If a game comes with a soundtrack CD, sure I'll grab the LE, but for a physical collectible like the one coming with Hyrule Warriors Legends? I'll now save the cash and the space.

But it's given me the time and cash to work on building up my original Xbox and PS2 collections. I'm definitely more cautious going into 2016 for Nintendo than I was in 2015 at this time, and it remains to be seen if their new hardware will woo me.

Re: Japanese Analyst Claims NX Could Launch As Early As October, Will Eat Into Wii U And 3DS Sales

EllenJMiller

@Damo Yeah, there's a risk of public anticipation cooling between a E3 2016 reveal and a late 2017 release, especially depending on what Sony and Microsoft do in the meantime.

The main thing is that Nintendo need to have a decent launch line-up and titles in the pipeline. There's always going to be droughts no matter how much they try and say there won't be this time.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2016

EllenJMiller

In order of excitedness: Zelda U > Star Fox Zero > Genei Ibun Roku #FE > Pokken Tournament > Twilight Princess HD.

Also Lost Reavers still intrigues me, and I can always hope for Yakuza 1 & 2 HD. Indie-wise, pretty much Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

Re: Video: Ghostbusters, Batman, Police Academy Toys And Nintendo - Say Hello To Christmas, 1989 Style

EllenJMiller

I still remember when my brother got his Master System in the early 90s, and we went to an independent record store in town a few days after Christmas that also sold video games. They were hung on the wall by the little plastic hoops on the top of the case, and each had a grade in letter form that determined how much it'd be.

Also I miss the days when things aimed at adults got action figures and cartoon shows aimed at kids. Robocop comes to mind there.

Re: Feature: Wrestling On The Cube: A Complete History

EllenJMiller

Didn't even need to see the name of the author to know who it was. I miss the days of wrestling games made by people other than Yuke's (though I do own both Rumble Roses and am looking to get the Gamecube WWE titles) and would love a new AKI/Syn Sophia one.

Maybe Triple H can go over to Japan and get them to do an NXT game so I can kick ass as Asuka.

Re: Video: Linkle Gets Shown Off in New Hyrule Warriors Legends Trailer

EllenJMiller

Can't wait to play as her. I've been playing Hyrule Warriors a fair bit recently, working my way through the adventure mode maps. Linkle's move set looks fun, I like the character design and I was hoping she'd arrive ever since seeing her concept art.

Now, if I could get some more characters, areas and music for the games... Groose? Nabooru? Telma? Ashei? Malon? ... Saria?

Re: Feature: There and Back Again - A Xenoblade Tale

EllenJMiller

I picked up Xenoblade Chronicles when I started building my Wii collection in earnest and it was very hard to put down. It gave me the same excitement as I had playing games like Phantasy Star 2 and 4, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Wild Arms 3 and Golden Sun. It remains the Wii game I have put the most hours in, and was well worth the money I spent on a copy with the classic controller pro. A fantastic article!

Re: Gallery: There's Loads Of Awesome Linkle Fan Art Available Already

EllenJMiller

@Moon Consider it this way: In the land, there have been many successful, courageous heroes called Link. There's a fair chance that people might name their kids after or inspired by the legendary heroes in the hopes that some of their namesake's qualities might rub off on them. Well, except maybe pot-breaking.

As far as we know, she isn't in possession of the Spirit of the Hero (if she comes from the Hyrule the game is set in, that's currently in Link. Young Link and Toon Link are from different time periods where they possessed the Spirit of the Hero. If she's from another time period, she might have that soul.)

Maybe green tunics are in vogue, being so associated with the hero of legend.

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

EllenJMiller

Linkle's great. I love the moveset we've seen with the double crossbows, looks like she'll be a lot of fun to play. I've been hoping we might see her since scans came through of the concept art from Japan, and I picked up the guide for Hyrule Warriors for the concept art which also featured her. If she's as enjoyable to play as Lianshi was in Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, I'm set.

Would I want her in the mainline games though, as a 'female Link'? No. I'd rather keep playing with Link. I'd rather play as Zelda if the games were going that way. Just like I'd rather play as Peach instead of a 'female Mario'. (I do own Super Princess Peach, rather fun game. I also beat SM3DW as Peach, only really changing character to do a level again to get a stamp.)

I'm just amused that after years of people calling for a 'female Link', now Linkle is here she's being called a 'Ms. Male character' by some previously wanting that.

Re: Review: Nintendo Presents: New Style Boutique 2 - Fashion Forward (3DS)

EllenJMiller

Kind of sad about the removal of men's fashion, it was something from the previous game that I'd have loved to have seen expanded. But I can understand wanting to focus more on the woman's side of fashion, especially with the beauty careers now available.

I don't think this'll be a launch pick-up for me, simply due to the season it's coming out in. I'd like to pick it up early next year, it all depends on Christmas bonuses and so on.

It's nice to see Syn Sophia putting out great games, though what I'd give for them to put down the clothes and do some clotheslines, AKI Corporation style. Yuke's really needs a competitor in the wrestling game genre.

Re: Preview: Getting Lost in the World of Xenoblade Chronicles X

EllenJMiller

The news that the bust slider has been removed from the Western release has killed my excitement for the game completely. The character I had been planning since seeing the footage of the Japanese character creator will now never come to be. From Bayonetta 2 last year getting my hopes up for a new Nintendo, to this kind of stupidity. What else has been butchered in the game, or will be butchered in other releases?

Re: Hyrule Warriors Legends Gets a Release Date and 'Female Link', Linkle

EllenJMiller

Two years ago in November, we had people decrying 'Ms Male Characters'
Now we have people online reducing Linkle to one and proclaiming it some great victory.

Linkle's cool. Been hoping she'd make an appearance since I picked up the guide book for the concept art. Loving how she's got a moveset like a souped-up Lianshi from the Warriors series with that Hyrule Warriors flair, looking forwards to seeing the new story content.
