As many of you are likely aware, the long awaited release of Rodea the Sky Soldier is only a few days away in North America and Europe, at last bringing the game's heavily drawn out development cycle to its conclusion. Rodea the Sky Soldier was a brainchild of Yuji Naka - the mastermind behind Sonic the Hedgehog - and is the latest project to come from his studio, Prope.
Naka recently took part in an interview with Hardcore Gamer to discuss the much anticipated game and to give a bit of insight into what kind of games the studio is interested in making. One of the questions brought up was whether or not naka would be open to making sequels to any games he's been behind so far. Naka stated that he would love to do sequels to Ivy the Kiwi? and Rodea the Sky Soldier, but he also has tons of new ideas for new projects:
Ivy the Kiwi and Rodea are two titles that have a special part in my heart, so I would love to try creating sequels if I am given the opportunity. I constantly have ideas for new titles. Though I cannot say them here, please look forward to the day I can show them to the public.
What do you think? Will you be picking up Rodea the Sky Soldier? What would you like to see come out of Prope next? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Wow, you know you're up late in the United States when Nintendolife starts posting their first articles of the day. Have a good night, er... morning, everyone!
Ready to get Rodea at launch!
And I surely hope it will be that kind of great fun game that will make me wish to see a sequel one day.
Man I've tried two different versions of ivy the kiwi and I just really can't get into them.
I'll get it over Christmas at some point for definite. Not quite sure why I never pre-ordered it; might be because I know very little about the game apart from that it looks like Nights Into Dreams from the Saturn which I loved.
I'll read the reviews for Rodea before making a decision.
Oh Naka-San. How we want you to make a spiritual successor to Sonic so we can all forget about SEGA and focus on Prope instead.
I have found the rodea game tempting since I read about it but it's a gamble for me gameplay wise. I'm way too skint to be gambling on games that I might not like right now. I just got a physical copy of project zero as my wildcard game so I'll wait until review scores and price drops pull me back to this.
You can still buy project zero physical in Europe by rh way people....coolshop.co.UK are STILL selling copies right now!!!
i preordered it and i really cant wait to finally play this game
@mjc0961 they're not attempting to compete with FO4. As with Hollywood launching a RomCom against a blockbuster film, the audiences for these two things are vastly different with nary an iota of crossover.
Rodea isn't gonna be a big seller, I just hope they sell the printed copies
10.000 maybe?
Ivy the Kiwi sequel? Sign me up. I jus hope they use a bit more colour this time around.
@mjc0961 What the hell makes you think they are trying to compete with Fallout 4? I mean really? The games was made for two completely types of people, have completely opposite genres, completely opposite style of gameplay, ect. I man just sit down and think for a second before you comment.
How about a sequel to Let's Tap?
I thoroughly enjoyed that.
I would get Rodea but I'm on a budget and it can't compete with Fallout 4 for my money,Plus with Xenonlade and Paper Jam around the corner I don't have the time anyway,I might pick it up next year if it gets a price cut.
I was hyped for this game until Nintendolife posted a video of gameplay and it just looked so dull and still very clearly a wii game!
I imagine from the video that the review is not going to be great!
@Lord I agree, that gameplay video brought up more questions than answers for me personally. Didn't look bad, certainly made me question how the game would play though. And yes, unless the video shown was the Wii version, it looked pretty shabby too.
No love for Billy Hatcher, I see.
I am defo gonna support this game and more titles in the future would be more than welcome if the games are good n fun.
Pre-ordered the special edition. Really looking forward to this, I hope it becomes a cult favourite, but flopping so bad in Japan doesn't seem too encouraging.
The running game in Let's Tap has remained popular among my friends and family, despite having only 16 short courses. Playing it yesterday got me thinking it would be great to see a standalone e-shop release with a course creator and the ability to share them online.
I really enjoyed Ivy the Kiwi? too and I would definitely buy a sequel.
@DarkmarkUnited Sega has been doing plenty with Sonic and their newer licences
I feel like I've been living under a rock. I know next to nothing about Rodea, and.. What is Ivy the Kiwi?
@AshFoxX Think Kirby Canvas Curse but more puzzle orintated.
Q) What do you think?
A) Ivy the Kiwi and Rodea the Sky Soldier are games that I'm interested in. They are also games that I've yet to play, so whether I want a sequel or not depends on how I feel about the games themselves. That said, I do like seeing new franchises spawn, as well as having series and characters I can easily attribute as form of representation of a company, so I certainly have nothing against seeing either series becoming prominent franchises for Probe.
Q)Will you be picking up Rodea the Sky Soldier?
A) Yes; it's admittedly the Wii version that has me the most interested, but I'd likely be buying the Wii U copy anyway. In fact, whist it is the Wii version that interests me the most, I plan on playing the Wii U version first, probably due to it's access to Miiverse.
Q)What would you like to see come out of Prope next?
A) Yuji Naka was a programmer for the first two Phantasy Star's, so a wonderful turn based RPG would always be something to please me. Streetpass Mansion is my favourite of the Streetpass games, and I'd love to see Probe either expand on that idea, or make a sort of Wii U version of that style of game (no idea how it would work without the Streetpass element to it though).
Ultimately though, looking at what Yuji Naka's worked on over the years, I'd simply like to see him continue to work on such vibrant games. The majority of the games he has worked on have been very colourful and bright; with a clear charm to them. I'd like to see that sort of thing continue with Probe; something that Rodea the Sky Soldier looks to offer me.
Didn't Rodea flop? Well so far, anyway. Can't see it being much of a commercial success over here in the West...
As far as I know Ivy the Kiwi also flopped. It was a fun game, but there are muuuuch better games!
