Re: Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson Bursts Out Onto European Shelves At The End Of August

EllenJMiller

Originally I had an Early Bird physical copy, but recently decided to upgrade to the Happy Boobs edition for the soundtrack CDs. I've really enjoyed playing Senran Kagura Burst, and I've got to admit the Versus games are the chief things tempting me to get a Vita (along with glorious Ys goodness and some Hatsune Miku).

Just hoping that New 3DS Cover Plate 42 comes out in time for it, gotta rep my girl Katsuragi.

Re: Nintendo Quality Of Life Patent Applications Appear Online

EllenJMiller

I've always had a bit of an interest in Nintendo's health and lifestyle offerings, things like Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat and Walk With Me: Do you know your walking technique? On the DS (plus the Brain Age/Sight Training stuff), the Wii Fit series and so on.

I can see them using the QoL platform to expand on the Life Rhythm concept from Walk With Me, gathering sleeping/weight/walking and other information to then get an idea of your lifestyle/routine and offer suggestions for better living. The projector could be part of some sleep aid/alarm system for the bedside unit, helping people drift off and wake up by monitoring factors.

I'm intrigued.

(Edit: With internet connectivity, it could incorporate things that we saw on the Forecast Channel and more, like UV/Pollen/Air Pollution information for your region.)

Re: Interview: Senran Kagura Producer KenichirĹŤ Takaki Bares All

EllenJMiller

I'm glad Takaki can make the games he loves. I certainly enjoyed Senran Kagura Burst, and just today I upgraded my pre-order of Senran Kagura 2 to the 'Happy Boobs Edition'.

Often people go "Well it'd be unrealistic to fight with those sized breasts in real life", to which I say: and? In life I have to put an arm across my chest when running or going quickly down a staircase. Nice to kick back with a game where characters can do crazy fighting moves and not worry about it.

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55

EllenJMiller

Satoru Iwata's passion for gaming shone brightly. From developing calculator games to working at HAL and his position at Nintendo.

Thank you for everything, Iwata. You leave behind one hell of a legacy. I hope the developers of the future have half of your love for this wonderful medium.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Director Defends Absence of Female Playable Characters

EllenJMiller

My reaction to Triforce Heroes with female characters would be the same as my reaction to Triforce Heroes with male characters: Oooh, there's some interesting gameplay elements there, I wonder if there's any single player- ooh, there is. One to pick up them!

I don't look for characters that represent me or that I can 'identify with', I look for fun games to play, and Triforce Heroes looks like a fun game to play.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Retail Games of 2015 - Summer Edition

EllenJMiller

It has to be Xenoblade Chronicles X for me. While I'm looking forwards to Rodea, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Art Academy Atelier, Star Fox Zero, Devil's Third, and Project Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X is a game I can see myself sinking hours into exploring the planet.

Actually, come to think of it, where is Rodea the Sky Soldier on this list?

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Approach to amiibo is Increasingly Frustrating

EllenJMiller

I think one of the main things is that there is no killer app for amiibo.

Smash Bros uses them as trained AI fighters that can gather things for you.
Mario Kart 8 uses them as costume unlocks.
Hyrule Warriors for random items and unlocks.
Captain Toad for a minigame.
Kirby for a one-a-day power up.
Splatoon for challenges (3 specific amiibo)
Assault Horizon + for skin unlocks.
Codename STEAM has them some join as temporary members.
And that thing that unlocks time-limit VC demos.

In a way it's a good thing, because some of them are very hard to get hold of and I've given up on wishing to have a complete set. There's several I'd like to get that have previously released, some I was able to pre-order, but my hopes of getting others are slim. I've even cancelled a few pre-orders for characters I'm not really interested in (Sorry Dark Pit, Greninja, Charizard)

But the ones I have are used for precious little.

Re: Take More Risks With Your eShop Purchases, Pleads Nintendo's Damon Baker

EllenJMiller

I have a limited amount of money per month for spending on gaming. Physical releases take precedence. Some is set aside for my bargain hunting in town for older vidya. When it comes to digital, it takes a lot to get me to part with my cash.

It's a shame to admit it, but I don't value digital games as much as I do ones that I have a physical copy of. I don't truly 'own' them, if I don't like it I can't return it or sell it on, and digital content can be all too ephemeral.

Still, I do own a lot of eShop games on my Wii U and my 3DS. I've got 2 and a bit pages in a folder on the Wii U filled with eShop games. I've got all the GUILD series games on my 3DS, the SEGA 3D Classics, the -blox/mo games, Gunman Clive, Dillon's Rolling Western, Harmoknight, Sakura Samurai, WayForward stuff, Shovel Knight and more. It just takes a lot more to get me to take the risk of a digital game purchase.

The cessation of the Premium promotion on the Wii U also made me less likely to pick up a game. It was nice knowing that my purchases were getting me a little more bang for my buck.

Still, the Nindies @ Home idea of a discount on release for having the demo will tempt me more and those titles look fantastic in their own ways. Not to mention FAST Racing NEO, which I can't wait for. But I suppose in Europe we get spared some of the things that the US gets, like Meme Run. There are others previously out I want to get at some point, but it's all down to disposable income and other demands on it.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Attempts To Explain Why Zelda Wii U Wasn't At E3 2015

EllenJMiller

I understand what he is saying, but it's misguided at E3. When people worry about the Wii U's lifespan, covering things in the short term can put people off buying in, in case support is phased out for the system. See what happened with SEGA in the 90s.

Cover the games coming out short term and then turn around and say "There's other titles coming for the systems that you can catch more of, and more in-depth, in our treehouse streams. But here's a little taste of what's to come in the future."

I'm also surprised we didn't see a Nindie showreel during the event. You've got them, so use them. It benefits them and you.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Entitled Fury

EllenJMiller

This is a game that'd better be served by having a less on the nose name. Galactic Federation Force, for instance. Or if the Metroid Prime name is needed, pair it with information on a fuller Metroid game.

The calls for its cancellation are ridiculous, but the backlash is understandable and also carries the accelerant of coming on a Digital Event that was -very- light, with other missteps like Animal Crossing amiibo Festival (on a console that has Wii Party U and Mario Party 10 in its short lifespan) and a finish that, while for a good cause, was ultimately lacking and poorly placed compared to a 'one more thing' announcement.

I want to see more of it, but I'm not sure if it, with its multiplayer focus, is for me. Same with Four Swords Minus One.

Re: Iwata Vows To Listen To E3 2015 Digital Event Feedback And "Work To Better Meet Your Expectations"

EllenJMiller

I was incredibly disappointed in it. The pacing was worse than 2014's, the ending was lacking, they spent too long on titles like Yoshi's Woolly World (Should have been a treehouse thing), and Metroid Prime Federation Force should have either just been called Federation Force or had a 'proper' Metroid or Prime game announced too.

No mention of Fatal Frame, no mention of Devil's Third, no mention of Rodea the Sky Soldier, which may have made the Wii U side feel less barren. And why leave mention of Platinum Games involvement in StarFox until after the Digital Event? Why is Animal Crossing on Wii U a party game?

Also, finish with a game.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

EllenJMiller

Have developer stories or trailers, not both. Ate up time that could have been used for hell, just a release date teaser for Fatal Frame? Devil's Third?

Animal Crossing Party? Why?! And why show Metroid Prime Federation Force without Metroid on Wii U, you know that's going to cause backlash.

The ending was atrocious. No 'one more thing', not even Nintendoland Fireworks bad.

They're going to have to claw back from this one on the next Direct. Not impressed at all.
