Well, we have the final European Nintendo Download Update details of 2015, and there are a couple of iconic N64 games and an enticing 3DS option included. It's not exactly a packed week, but those with a taste for the slopes or the waves should be happy.
At the time of writing we've only seen the Dutch press release (our thanks to Daan Koopman), and will update with UK prices when available.
Wii U Virtual Console
1080° Snowboarding (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - Perfect for the season, unless you're in the UK where it's just raining constantly, as you can blast down the virtual slopes in this much-loved skiing title. You can take on races, the half-pipe or dramatic trick jumps, and this will certainly hold some fond memories for some. We enjoyed this in our Wii Virtual Console 1080° Snowboarding review and will take another look. This is the US version of the game.
Wave Race 64 (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - Another extreme sports racing title from the N64 era, this time with a summery vibe as you ride the waves and try to secure top spot. At the time its wave physics were a sight to behold, and we gave it plenty of praise in our Wii Virtual Console Wave Race 64 review; we'll jump in for a fresh look. This is the US version of the game.
Wii U Virtual Console Promotion
Get 50% off either 1080° Snowboarding or Wave Race 64 when you buy the other on the same Wii U system, a reduction to €4.99 - it'll therefore cost €14.98 to buy both.

99Moves (EnjoyUp Games, €1.49 until 28th January, normally €2.49)
Abyss (EnjoyUp Games, €1.49 until 28th January, normally €1.99)
3DS Retail Download
Story of Seasons (Nintendo, €39.99) - Actually a Harvest Moon release in Japan, this underwent a rebrand due to regional rights issues in the West. It maintains various conventional aspects of that series, such as farming and romance, while adding some pleasing new touches and plenty of charm. We gave this a recommendation in our Story of Seasons review.

Nintendo the stingy gits have gone the whole Christmas period with no sale on their own games. Tis the Season and all that. I won't be buying anything this week.
Both N64 games for me but still no Mario Kart 64? I'm thankful we're getting the American version of Wave Race as the PAL version is significantly inferior, which we got for the Wii as well.
Think I'll get 1080 and Wave Race, have them both on my still active GameCube, but never had the N64 games so would enjoy these on gamepad I reckon.
if (and its a big if) US has Wave Race and 1080 will get them both (even if the half price promotion doesn't apply)
Wave Race and 1080 were both good games in there day and I paid full price for them both (at least £60 total).
By now we should have a new Wii U version of these games or a least a graphics face-lift for the old ones.
But I would not pay more money to Nintendo for something that although were good games in there day are now looking there age.
I know the Wii U has been a flop and we are all waiting for the NX but I did buy it for HD games not old retro games.
Need a new 1080 and wave race
Never thought I would see Wave Race and 1080 on Wii U VC. Happy days.
Waverace 64 is a fantastic game but I have the original
Terrible week for discounts though pleased with n64 games.
@Sligeach
Or maybe Nintendo doesn't want to "steal" 3rd parties' moment to sell on their holiday sale?
Personally, I'd be more inclined to buy Nintendo games if they go on sale because it's a rare occurrence. Now, I'll just settle to buy the 3rd party games I like that's on sale.
@Sligeach They just had a pretty major first party sale (well, by Nintendo's standards) during the cyber week or whatever it's called.
Story of Seasons for me, though I bought the cart as it was £20 cheaper than the download. Everything being good, it should arrive before the actual UK release
Oh, look! More Wii U VC games that NoA won't have until God knows when, if ever! Hooray...
Well, at least 1080° Snowboarding can now be 1080p Snowboarding.
@manu0 Major? You mean the 8 games that were only available for 24 hours, 2 games a day with smaller discounts than the US? You mean that MAJOR "sale"? Some of the games even with the discount were more expensive than they are at retail. People at the time said Thanksgiving was an American thing and that we'd get our version of the sale at Christmas, but we didn't and haven't.
Well since I already own Wave Race 64 on Wii's Virtual Console and have done the system transfer I'll qualify for WR at £1.49. Apply that offer to 1080 and I should have both games for a fiver? Count me in!
Nintendo saying "Crappy New Year", right?
Well since I already own Wave Race 64 on Wii's Virtual Console and have done the system transfer I'll qualify for WR at £1.49
Its £1.79 for N64 games, but yeah, it will be pretty cheap if you already own one.
None of these games interest me this week.
Discount on the Wii U VC? Has this happened before? I'm getting 1080' and Wave Race.
Nothing for me this week
Finally some more N64 goodies. . Wave race for me, then can you release mario kart 64 next week and I will be happy. .
I never player the Wii VC version of Wave Race. Wasn't there some kind of cosmetic changes done due to commercials appearing in the original?
1080 and Wave Race for me! Love those games!
@Sinton Yes. The in-game Kawasaki banners had been changed to Wii and DS banners. Also, there have been promotions like this before. Recently with the DS Kirby and DS Zelda games.
Wave Race 64 for me as I bought it on Wii VC, keep the upgrades coming! I'm wondering though why MK64 is taking so long though, if now was before E3 2015 I'd have so thought it would've been to celebrate MK8 battle mode DLC but that game is completely dead in terms of new content.
Just release Smash 64 already Nintendo.
1080° Snowboarding and Wave Race are the winnders for me. Love these 2 games.
1080, I'll take that discount from buying on Wii.
Wave Race 64!!! Please NOA!!!
Will get both N64 obviously. Never played 1080, but Save Race is a huge favourite - the sequel sadly drowned all that was good about it (save Aspen Lake). I'll be interested to see any supposed differences between the PAL and NTSC versions, but will hold onto my cartridge as all the ads will be gone.
Wave race and 1080. Two of best games on n64. Day one for me, especially at that price
Because the ads are super important?
Wave Race is still awesome, even to this day. What I would give for a follow up (Blue Storm is trash) which retains the original's style, feel, atmosphere, & awesome soundtrack.
@Sligeach are you digital only or something? I've found constant deals via retail for the past few weeks.
Wave Race and 1080 Snowboarding?!
All hail NOE! (sorry America)
Wave Race and 1080 it is. Does anyone know how to get rid of the black borders and put N64 virtual console games into full screen on Wii U?
I might have to get both waverace and 1080, I can't remember if I bought them for the Wii though, do we get the upgrade price on N64 games?
@Morph yes we do. It's two bucks I think.
Cool, because I don't think I got it on Ocarina of Time for some reason
Good week for VC. Will be getting both ^^.
@Ichiban I agree that Blue Storm is nowhere near as great as the original Wave Race on N64.
Those of you getting story of seasons....you may want to tell your family you will be missing for a while.
EU getting all the good VC games lately.
Which version will we get? Poor PAL version or NTSC version? I'm happy to see a lot of people voting Wave Race in the poll, I hope we get a new Wave Race game someday!
I see that we are getting US versions, good.
I guess I'll pay the 1€ (or 1,50€) to upgrade Wave Race. One of my all time favs.
Love these releases but GC VC please
@Sligeach I agree completely, rubbish cyber-whatever-week deals and no chrimbo discounts on 1st party is a pretty poor showing, also where's the yearly Level 5 and Sega 3D classic sale? They usually sell bucketloads...
I doubt Nintendo are doing this to give 3rd parties a chance at sales, FAST NEO and Steamworld Heist have had their Christmas spotlight already, the only thing 3rd party here is the 3DS sale we've all seen over and over again.
Come on NOE, pick the ball up...
I'd love it if Atlus released both Snowboard Kids on the Wii U Virtual Console.
Actually I'd be even happier if they made a new game for either Wii U or NX. But that doesn't seem likely.
Sold. I'll upgrade Wave Race and get 1080 via the promotion. Course a 3 for 2 promotion on the Mario Partys wouldn't go amiss too NOE. XD
Yeah I'm moving to Europe, this is bull**** NA why are we getting next to nothing compared to them?
Not having played a Harvest Moon game before I'm torn between £40 for Story of Seasons or £8 for Tale of Two Towns on sale. I'm not at a loss for things ot play either, but I just want to sample a fairly recent HM game to see what it's like. Any compelling reason not to get the game on sale?
Wave Race for sure! finally VC seems to be picking up!
@danjohnson141 Shhhh! You'll jinx it!
Wooohoooo!
How awesome, I'll definitely get WV64 and 1080.
@Bass_X0: What exactly are the differences to the EU version?
@Bass_X0 nostalgia really. Plus, Wave Race doesn't sell for a high price.
I keep hoping that NA will be getting the VC releases shortly after but that rarely seems to be the case
WTF NoA, Europe gets both 1080 and wave race, both of which are the US version. Get your act together NoA
NoA's releases this week: A reminder that you should be purchasing Minecraft and Mario's Missing (no, no, not the game just anything you think they might be releasing will be missing.)
Damn Nintendo I thought for sure Mario Kart 64 would be next after Mario Tennis and instead they release these two? So aggravating waiting for them to release the games I want: MK64 and the 3 Mario Parties. Seems like every other N64 game will come before them.
Good week for Europe, hope we get both of these N64 games in North America as well...
@Bass_X0 ill agree with that, all PAL games are noticeably inferior to NTSC in all honestly but Waverace 64 was shockingly bad for a PAL port extra slow and clunky and plays like a dream on an NTSC machine, what an amazing looking title for a very early release on the N64 stone cold classic i reckon.
5th week in a row: Nothing for me.
All these posts about the NoA store add nothing here. It's getting very repetitive and spammy. Nintendo aren't reading this. Can we discuss the Europe store please?
Digital games don't sell consoles.
First party and exclusive games sell consoles.
Nintendo won't waste a digital sale on a season where there are consoles and people willing to buy them.
Switch Nintendo and Sony's console sales and I guarantee the sales would switch as well.
15 for the pair is fine, but the previous posters nailed it. It's cheaper going physical with games like these (I got Wave Race 64 last year, for 2$) so you're paying for convenience and accessibility. And a better controller, if we're being honest.
Oh man, crossing my fingers 1080° and Wave Race make it to North America this week too - I was just playing 1080° in Wii Mode yesterday and thinking how much I'd love to play it with the Pro Controller! Perfect winter game! =)
What are Nintendo doing 1080 and Waverace could run on the New 3DS so why are they not coming out on it can they not see that they are missing a trick I'm starting to think they want their great handhold to fail why bring a new model out but not make or do anything for it please Nintendo get your act together 😕
@RedYoshi999 You're complaining about a specific VC game not being released for your country. Meanwhile, America worries that we won't get any VC games at all each week...
I really hope NA gets Wave Race, but clearly we will wait a while. Couldn't care less about 1080
I loved Waverace but am not paying a tenner for it, pleased to see N64 games making a VC return.
F Zero X please!
And it's because of countless weeks like this I bought a vita... Nintendo clearly keeps proving to me on a weekly basis that my money isn't important to them.
YAY Story of Seasons!! ;w;
Imagine you just got a Wii U for xmas and this is the first Nintendo sale you saw. Not exactly a hearty welcome to the fold, is it?
Hey NOA!! These are called virtual console games!! Note how your European arm releases 2-3 a week!! Maybe we can pick up the pace a bit for America?!? There's no rules that you're limited to 1 a week!! Wake up and smell the humus!! Thx!!
Wow-I hope that N64 deal comes to NA!!
I'd love me some Wave Race (even better if it were Excitebike 64!) and 1080 Snowboarding!
@riChchestM I haven't played it myself, but according to most others Tale of Two Towns is just not as good as A New Beginning or Story of Seasons.
Waverace 64 I think this time.
Nice to see that there are still coming out new VC games, but I do hope America will get more VC games as well :+).
What's wrong with wave race blue storm?
@Kimite is this the comment?
Oh, I didn't even notice the promotion. My upgrade of Wave Race 64 will give me a big bargain on 1080 Snowboarding!
It's always exciting when Nintendo remembers it has an N64 library to pull from!
I wished they would do a discount on Tappingo 2. I already have the first one.
@riChchestM Yes, because this is a European site and no other region's discrepancies matter...
I don't like sports/racing games, so that's a bunch of nothing this week.
@PlywoodStick No because this is a post about the European store update. There will be a post about the NoA store update you can go be relevant on.
Both WaveRace and 1080° will surely look great on Wii U thanks to its perfect emulation! Nintendo choosed the Dark Side for N64 games and it seems they don't give a s**t about it...
Waverace,.... rerererelease,..
It's the most awesome watersport game ever made.
1080 is also a nice game, though i prefer coolboarders better
Story of Seasons is the 'real' actual Harvest Moon, right...?
@CB85 Yep.
@SonicAlpha Nice, thanks! About time we got that game, too.
@CB85 No worries. Looking forward for the arrival of my copy
The only reason it's not called Harvest Moon outside of Japan, is because the rights to the name belong to a different company (who are now developing their own HM games). It's stupid, and confusing.
£10 for N64 games is a little steep for my blood.
@andreoni79 NoE's plan is clearly to make NoA look lazy, these 2 N64 games are in the realm of IPs Nintendo ignores for retail titles (wouldn't be surprised to see F-Zero X soon) and so the US audience gets really angry at NoA for not releasing these for at least half a year.
@EllenJMiller They are £7 on the original Wii.
Hey! Look at what Nintendo has on offer for this holiday week! NOTHING!
What's the upgrade cost of the N64 games? I own both on Wii Channel....
£1.79
I was hoping Story of Seasons to be moderately priced, so I could just download and enjoy it right now, instead of waiting for the package, but nope, it's most likely gonna cost either 169 or 189 PLN. Much more expensive than the boxed copy, oh well...
Finally story of seasons!!!!!!!
yeah story of season, the wait is over! i hope they will make it available for eshop.
Wave race and 1080 bought instantly. Classics and worth every penny.
Add excite bike 64 aswell and I I'll be well happy
