Earlier this year Nintendo announced a major revamp for its flagship New York store; giving hope to those that hope to see multiple outlets open around North America and globally, it's being rebranded from Nintendo World Store to Nintendo NY.
Opening on 19th February, the big N has now outlined details for that re-launch. Media will be gawking at the new design from 9am - 10am local time on the day, while the store will open to the public at noon. There'll naturally be a big Mario mascot there to cut the ribbon; you can see an excerpt from the press release below.
When the store opens to the public at noon, there will be a series of activities, including giveaways, like exclusive Splatoon art created by the developers of the hit game (while supplies last), and appearances by costumed characters like Mario and Luigi. The store will also sell exclusive souvenirs that can only be purchased that weekend, including a limited-edition T-shirt featuring Mario or Link. Fans who want to try out some of Nintendo's latest games are in luck, as new and upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will be available to play.
If you need a reminder on what's coming, the whole space will be redesigned to include more Wii U and 3DS demo units, along with a giant 15 foot gaming screen. You can see the concept image of that below - check out the old Wii-gen assets! - and the entrance will also have an enormous bronze coin, pictured at the top.

Are you planning to head to New York for the opening, and are you hoping to see more stores roll out in the months and years to come? Let us know.

I wish they'd open a store in London, maybe it would help increase their profile in the UK?
@Mogster A UK store especially in London would be awesome. I don't think it would be unprofitable but I'm not sure whether it would help build their appeal here either.
Of course such a store would be best positioned somewhere like Oxford Street or Regents Street. I'd happily travel to London for the opening of such a store!
And I'm here, living in this hellhole called Brazil...
Weird that they would remodel the store now that the NX is almost here. Or is it?
Would love to go back! I visited the Nintendo World Store twice, once in 2012, and last year. However the US is way to big to have just one store especially on an island that's so expensive to visit! I had to drive 13 hours to just get to NYC. I mean I would definitely go back as well with gas being cheap just don't have the car.
@Mogster i wish they'd open more stores in general. At least you guys have an online store where North America doesn't. Well, they got Ebay but again that is US only.
deliberately remains the last one on the screen
My kids and I are all cutting school on the 19th to go to this. Gonna be awesome!
Took the day off work. Can't wait to see the new store!
I went there a few months ago. The handheld museum was worth the stop, let alone the games and merchandise.
I've wondered why there aren't more Nintendo Wod stores, at least in a few large cities in America and Europe. At very least, they would be great fronts for selling stuff like Amiibo, and can compensate for a lack of shelf space in many areas.
Maybe they will donate a store to Detroit to help it's remodel makeover......ok that's never going to happen, but Chicago is a possibility and I'm there occasionally.
No fair, I want exclusive Splatoon art!
Glad to hear they're revamping the place. I went a couple years back. It was definitely neat, and I picked up a bit if merch I wouldn't find anywhere else. But it was still a bit lackluster. There was a lot of space that I thought could be utilized a bit better. Might be about time to visit NY again!
@Mogster This.
Wish they would open one in Toronto. I live near there.
That's the same day that Fates is coming out!
NoA, it'll be awesome if you provided supply of the game at a discount for celebrating the first day of NY! just saying!
@Frank90 Yeah man, I know how do you feel, Nintendo forgot we exist, and even when it did know, it was horrible with everything being expensive, Brazil is the worst place to be a gamer, mainly a nintendo one.
@Charinzardon
I'd say Nintendo gamers havethat problem in general here in Latin America. We never get any of the special events, we don't have the eshop and must use the US Shop, we barely have any support... Nintendo really needs to step up their game here.
@manu0
For a brief second when I saw "newly-remodeled Nintendo NY" I thought it was some new game-changing NX detail had unfolded.
Hope for a London branch, but it's probably unlikely and I think the rebranding is just to make its name simpler. If it does happen, it'd be like a pilgrimage for me.
@Mogster yes i want that maybe they could call it nintendo london
Gahhh, I would've loved to go for the opening but can't really afford a flight in such short notice.
I wonder which upcoming U games will be on demo?
I'm close to Mall of America I would love for a Nintendo Store to open there. Maybe next to the Lego Store.
Eh.
It's only a larger screen.. and demo units have always been fairly up to date- so what exactly is new here?
Also going by some of their past designs, I doubt the LE shirts will be anything special (they tend to be cheesy or too plain -iyam)
And Splat art? - PASS
I was really hoping for a Loz anniversary party..
Tags & museum display aside, this is hardly a huge deal to fuss over, I'd say..
but to those visiting(esp first timers) hope you all have a great time! =)
Nintendo LA seems like the only other store Nintendo should have.
We all speculate about the NX and the analysts are talking it could be a pretty hot commodity.
But if it's not, we have to be prepared for what that means for Nintendo.
If this is another Wii U, or even a Gamecube, it won't be enough for shareholders.
Personally, I'd turn the store into 80% museum and consolidate the actual store and new sections to a smaller, yet still centralized area.
The whole idea of expansion just seems stupid at this point.
I'll likely go for my b day again this year. I don't know what it is about that store but I have to make an annual pilgrimage.
If there could ever be a Nintendo store in Los Angeles I believe it should be in Hollywood. At tourist season Hollywood Blvd is just like Times Square.
@Mogster I remember visiting SEGA's store in London at the bottom of Hamleys and getting to play Sonic & Knuckles, and SegaSonic the Hedgehog (the trackball arcade game with Sonic, Mighty and Ray.)
That picture proves there's a skyward sword remake and also a Kirby remake and an omega Ruby remake comin
Come on Nintendo L.A. Store!!! Or at least S.D. or S.F.
@Dankykong Well, idk about "proving it" but it wouldn't be surprising. After all, Aonuma and the development team looked at WW, TP, and SS art styles in HD. So far we are having two out of the three remade in HD.
If they were to open a store in Las Vegas I would get my application in so fast. I would love to work there
@Gerbwmu In Detroit, there's several graffiti markings of the word "WAH" with a purple outline, so there's a Nintendo audience even among thugs. Plus Youmacon was filled with Link cosplay.
I would love to see one of these in Wisconsin. We don't have a LEGO store or Disney store around my area, so we might as well have a Nintendo store.
a DC store would be great. Smithsonian, spy museum, monuments, super Mario. Its like poetry
I really like the store, the staff are pretty friendly. I have been lucky enough to visit the store five times. It was apart from getting to the hotel the first place I go to when I go to NYC, I'd love one to open in London. I'd really like to see what the store looks like after it's remodel, including the merchandise.
I can't visit that weekend, but I'm hoping to go see it soon afterward. I visit it (and a few McDonalds along the way to pick up streetpasses) every time I'm in New York. I hope they have some standard N3DS demo units. It was the 2DS demo circle that sold me on the merits of the system.
Things like this makes being a New Yorker worth it. I'll likely go on Friday since it's easier to commute on weekdays than weekends, especially if you plan to take the B train.
@Priceless_Spork Could I ask why? It has the frickin' Nintendo Store!
