With another week comes another batch of Nintendo Download goodies in North America, and 'tis the season for major retail releases on both Wii U and 3DS. The Wii U eShop also gets an exclusive while a range of options are available across both stores - let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update? Fear not, the details are all right here.
Wii U eShop
Typoman (Headup Games, $13.99, 15% off until 19th December with E3 Nindies@Home demo on same system) - Kicking off as a Wii U exclusive, this is an intriguing puzzle platformer in which you create words in order to get past hazards and make progress. There was encouragement to be found in the Nindies@Home demo, and we give it a recommendation in our Typoman review.
Totem Topple (Crystalline Green, $2.99) - This budget title looks rather intriguing, as you combine totem building with elements of tower defence, while totem heads of varying designs have a different effect against attacking creatures. There are Classic and Frantic modes, and we'll build up a review soon.
Lucentek - Activate (Joseph Lucente, $9.99) - On the one hand this appears to be an ambitious action-adventure that includes hovercraft and spaceship transformations, while on the other hand it looks - superficially - rather wonky. We'll try it out for a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival (Capcom, $7.99) - Just like Final Fight One this is a GBA remaster of the SNES original, in this case including modes such as Arcade, Team Battle, Time Attack and Missions. On the downside it's lacking multiplayer, but we enjoyed it enough for a recommendation in our Wii U Virtual Console Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival review.
Wii U Retail Downloads
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Nintendo, $49.99) - The latest entry in this particular sporting series sees Mario and company take to the court in all their HD glory. Mega Mushrooms and bigger jump shots make their appearances, along with the ability to level up an amiibo buddy for doubles play, though we were left underwhelmed by the content on offer in our preview. As we explained in our review update, our final assessment will wait until the coming weekend once we've played plenty of online matches on the live servers. Available from 20th November.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts

Wii U Demo
ZaciSa's Last Stand (ZeNfA Productions, free)
3DS eShop
Family Fishing (Aksys Games, $5.99) - This'll include various locations and opportunities to upgrade gear and generally to "fish like a boss!". Naturally larger fish will pose a challenge, though rather disturbingly - in what we assume is for multiplayer or AI matches - you can "throw smoke bombs to disrupt your opponents and seize the advantage". It sounds intense, and we'll see whether it lures us in with a review.
3DS Retail Downloads
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (Nintendo, $39.99) - This spin-off series continues on 3DS with 20 'mon to choose from at the start and the inclusion of all known Pokémon (720?!) to find and interact with. In many respects this appears to be more of the same for the series, which doesn't have to be considered a bad thing; we'll get cracking on a review. Available from 20th November, free 3DS HOME Theme with all purchases until 6th December.
I Love My Pony (Bigben Interactive, $24.99) - On the one hand this is yet another pony sim in which you care for the lovable creature and train it for contests, though this one does at least promise "a captivating story".

Street Fighter II on GBA because we didn't already have enough versions of Street Fighter available to us?
What's stopping them from releasing further Wii titles on Eshop?
Disappointed that Spirit Tracks is not on this list.
getting family fishing. Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, I'm getting physical.
Where is my Zelda DS collection, Phantom Hour Glass and Spirit Tracks. Come on NOA!
No Animal Crossing Wild World....
AeternoBlade for me. I was waiting on a discount to pick it up. Loved the demo.
(Sigh) this woulda' been the perfect time to release Wild World.
@BaffleBlend its all i logged online today to look for
Not the best week as we head into the holiday season. There's some stuff there for sure, but most is niche.
And well there is the abomination that is Mario Tennis. I totally get Nintendo Life's delay to score it because of online, but all that is gonna do is maybe change the score from a 2/10 to a 3/10 if it's any good.
......Still waiting for Rhythm Heaven... :/
Nothing for me this week. Might pick up Typoman when/if it goes on discount.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
I sincerely hope those aren't the 50% off deals Nintendo was talking about here:
http://happyholidays.nintendo.com/cyber-deals
The date is the same for some of them, starting on Nov 25th, but I wouldn't list those under "dozens of the best-reviewed games for the Wii U".
Hopefully these are just all of the non-Nintendo games trying to get a jump start on the Ntinedo games. but I don't think Nintendo itself has published "dozens" of games on Wii U and 3DS that they would feel like selling 50% off.
Maybe they will at least try to match some of the retailer deals they are promoting here:
http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/DoS0ECYyNPuy7RBETWfsWVzVCj9A0525
Select Wii U Games at Walmart for $25
Splatoon
Mario Party 10
Ugh, Just release Xenoblade already.
First time since I first got the N64 game that I'm not in a hurry to get the new Tennis. Why take out one player tournament mode? Besides playing friends i thought that was the main mode! I'm used to NOA being a bit disappointing with their VC releases, so no real suprises there. Not the best week but good is to come I'm sure.
Typoman seems interesting but I'm probably going to get that months later if it have a discount sale, otherwise nothing this week.
Am I the only one who's excited for the new Mario Tennis?
Also, they really did themselves a disservice by not releasing Xenoblade Chronicles on the eShop a month or two before the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
I was thinking of getting Mario Tennis, but after the underwhelming reviews I've been reading, I'll pass.
I'll only eventually buy it if there is some free DLC with extra modes/characters and if the price drops to a fair price range (US$29.99). -_-
Anyone have any idea what the Snoopy discount will be? I'm interested in getting that game for my Wii U just for nostalgia's sake, but $40 seems a bit high for a basic platformer.
Who's the 'genius' that keeps picking these god awful VC games that 'they think' will sell well?
I really need to figure out the email for NOA so I can write them a huge complaint letter. We get a fraction of what Japan and Europe get. Every week I check if we are getting Zero Missions, no Zelda DS games, no Xenoblade Chronicles. It's total crap how NOA treats us with delaying games when other places has had them for months.
You know it's telling when more people want to buy Typoman than Mario Tennis.
I thought that ZaciSa demo was already available. Anyway, I loved that version of SFII on my GBA back in the day, but I don't know if it was enough to warrant a purchase today.
@rjejr That price for Splatoon is insane. I despise Wal-Mart, but I may break down and get that there. I feel dirty just for saying that.
Nothing for me again....
No Style Savvy for North America means no sale this week for my Nintendo systems.
@majinx07 Someone who probably isn't into gaming.
Try harder NOA.
@Kiyata_Hamasaki Why would you ever think that title would come out this week in NA?
Nothing for me this week. Though with the release of the Sega Saturn theme, we might be closer to the Dreamcast theme.
Im moving to Europe. I cant play animal crossing on Wii u. Plus, they have resident evil 4! Curses!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hrm...I guess it would be too much to ask for something new on the 3DS? Maybe some new VC...(yeah right)...Pokemon Mystery Dungeon just doesn't really grab me.
Also, I've really been hoping for Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii U since Europe's had it for a while now. I'd like to play through it again but on the big screen this time.
@ElkinFencer10 Yep, NoE had their act together in that regard. NoA should have done the same...
Even if something worth my time and money were released today (MSF2 comes closest), I need to save my money. Let's just say that after the recent Nintendo Direct and news that Twilight Princess HD will support all Zelda amiibo, I got some amiibo hunting to do.
@mjharper Yes, but this is an updated version to more matches the new content & improvements that came to the game since that demo originally released.
Two Level 5 games on sale and one wasn't Liberation Maiden, darn.
Capcom should've released the GBA port of SF Alpha 3 instead of SFII yet again.
Was going to click "Nothing for me" until I saw the Sega Saturn theme at the very bottom.
@Yeahman
Thanks
@ThomasBW84: Did the press release you guys got say that only those games were on sale? I saw one this morning and I thought it said "and more" to those Activision, Level-5, and Natsume sales. Could just be wishful thinking though.
No Wild World, no buy
(unless it's Xenoblade X)
@mjharper Yeah, the single player alone justifies the $25. Well I liked it, but I enjoy 3D platformers, I know most people weren't impressed. Don't get it for the offline 2 player though, having to tie 2 controllers together w/ a piece of wire wasn't worth it.
@NESlover85 Was hoping for Xenoblade before the Xenoblade X release as well.
@World Yep, there is an 'and more', which will be clearer once the offers actually kick in.
Well I have been eyeing Gatcha Racing, but I guess the sale hasn't started yet 'cause I don't see any price drop. I'll check later.
@Pokefanmum82
Let's get into Physical.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vWz9VN40nCA
@ElkinFencer10 Ideally those of us in North America would have seen Xenoblade Chronicles release on the VC by now. Europe had a few months to play through it prior to the new game coming out. It would have been nice for those of us not owning a high priced retail copy to have been able to buy it digitally before the new game launch as well. I'm still hoping that we get it on the December 3rd.
@chiefeagle02 I'm hoping so. I haven't bought a theme since they were launched, but I'm buying that immediately. I'm sure it'll only make me desperate to play Skies of Arcadia again and want to die inside, but it's a chance I'm willing to take. I loved the Dreamcast. Somehow the consoles I've loved the most tend to be the least successful..... maybe I just love the underdogs.
@Nico07 It is pretty stunning that they haven't done that to build hype. I would have already plunked down on XBC if it were on the eShop, but alas. Maybe they're holding it back to get more New 3DS sales this holiday season? That'd be low of them, but who knows. They seem to hate the Virtual Console here in North America.
@MarioPhD I agree it could be to push more holiday sales of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and the "New" 3DS XL to play it. Still I have both and just never got around to buying a physical copy for the Wii. Probably as I didn't feel like buying from a reseller at some astronomical price. $20 for a digital copy seems like a no-brainer and I would be happy to buy it on top of the 3DS version personally.
Awesome! The lone VC release is a port of a game already available! If they are going to release ports of VC games and the original is already on the service, they could at least have another game to offer at the same time.
Finally a free theme (and its a good one)!
Gimmegimmegimme!
Oh boy..... another Street Fighter II....
Does NoA think we won't buy Metroid Zero Mission? Give us the game already
@Nico07 I own a physical copy of Xenoblade but I would love to play on the gamepad....that way my wife can have the tv.
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.
Physically.
No discount for Japanese Rail Sim yet?
@NoA
All I want for christmas is zero mission
So, what is the point of street fighter sans multiplayer?
@morphballer Sorry to disappoint you but the SEGA Saturn theme is $1.99, the same as all the other SEGA themes.
Will look at Gotcha racing once it's on sale, other then that, wouldn't mind some Street Fighter GBA on the 3DS...or any VC fighting game for the 3DS =w=
In a word: LAME.
@ThomasBW84 Thanks, glad to know I didn't just imagine that!
How many people would actually use multiplayer if SSFIIT Revival was compatible with it? How many players of the other SFII games on Virtual Console regularly use multiplayer?
@bezerker99 Not true, the Sonic Boom theme is free.
@Mr_Trill_281 Go Phoenix Suns!!! Wait! This isn't a sports thread you spoony bard!
Final Fantasy joke aside. I was just being silly @Mr_Trill_281.
Just spent my $10 on Ryu and a couple of arcade badges. Those 3DS sales just HAD to come at that time! >_<
Guess I'm not powering up my Wii u this week!! Good job again NOA!!
@manu0 because in years past Nintendo actually cared about gamers in North America and would release here the games that we really want. I guess for a moment I felt hopeful that they simply forgot to announce the release of this game. Unfortunately we just won't ever get it.
One of these days, I'm going to have to compare all these eShop pony games.
Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon... yet another game Nintendo didn't seem to want reviews out before the release... probably another dud to go along with AC:AF and Ultra Smash... such a shame, but at least Xenoblade should be decent... sad that'll be the only true holiday game for me this year. Come on nintendo, you're much better than this-- now excuse me while I go back to playing Fallout 4
Finally time for some Mystery Dungeon. The wait was well worth! Just a couple hours away lol
@Yeahman Thanks. I'll be bookmarking that link as well.
Well, Super Mystery Dungeon has been a Day 1 purchase since I first heard about it, so hear I come!
@rjejr Wow, thank you for posting that info about Wal-Mart sales! I guess I'm finally out of excuses for not acquiring Splatoon yet.
Huh, Bugs vs Tanks and Aeroporter, the only GUILD games I don't have... Neat.
@Barbiegurl777 I was specifically talking about this week. Why would he/she think that NoA releases this game this week w/o any previous announcement...
Rather than focus on GBA ports of SNES titles already available on the VC, Nintendo should seize chances to release unreleased games.
@Bass_X0 The better question is why are we getting an inferior GBA port of a game already available in the Virtual Console when there is an amazing number of games waiting to be put on there from the DS and GBA library that are not ports? If I really wanted Street Fighter II, I already could get the original, Turbo, or New Challengers. The same with Super Ghouls & Ghosts. You literally have a slightly inferior port that costs the exact same as the original SNES title.
Alphadia Genesis... FINALLY a discount! Now I just need a Pier Solar discount.
@MarioPhD My road to Dreamcast started after Sega pulled the plug on the system. At that point, I was very much a Nintendo kid. My friend had a Dreamcast and would bring it to my house, but as fun as it was, I still wanted a GameCube. I remember Nintendo Power had an article on GameCube which I brought to school. That day, the same friend also brought a magazine with an ad for brand new $50 Dreamcast consoles. A $50 investment was easier than $200, so I went with Dreamcast for a couple of years (and a few more later on when I discovered the homebrew scene).
@Darknyht You know it hurts more when Metroid Zero Mission is still MIA.
I'm assuming Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks will be coming in about 6 months.
@burninmylight You're welcome.
Here's the ad. That $25 might be a limited time thing as it's a BF ad so you might have to skip dinner.

If you are looking for more sales, I've been using CAG for about 5 years for all my gaming sale needs.
https://www.cheapassgamer.com/forum/10-video-game-deals/
@chiefeagle02 I got mine for my birthday in 2000, just 2 days before the PS2 launched in NA. I got the SEGA Sports bundle with the black console. Loved it to death, quite literally, as mine broke down on me a few years later. I was broken-hearted when they announced it would be discontinued. Got a PS2 shortly thereafter, but I always adored the Dreamcast, especially the early days of SegaNet and playing the NBA 2K games against people online.
I saw a MIB copy of SF 2 on GBA for $9.99 recently, but tempted to get it on the Wii U just because I need my SF fix on the console.
@Barbiegurl777 to be fair retail and physical PDM comes with a free 3ds theme, not the first game to do so but im glad this is happening!
I'd rather not miss out on a free pokemon or AC theme.
already got burned by HDD

Sega Saturn theme for sure.
I would REALLY love to play the new PMD (I recently picked up and re-played Explorers of Sky for the DS), though it's not available in Europe until the 19th of February. :/ Curse that region lock!
Yet another week of complete garbage. Thanks, Nintendo.
@Captain_Toad Welp at least Ryu is worth it! (if you are talking about smash anyways)
@Undead_terror Yep I am. The karate wanderer is near simon belmont in terms of jumping and the controls are a bit tricky but I can't help but keep coming back to this guy.
really? no pokemon super mystery dungeon demo?
really? no pokemon super mystery dungeon demo? lame!

@ThomasBW84
I didn'f know where to tell you this but I just found out something interesting. The Wii U menu (including inside folders) can only hold about 294(I might be off by a couple) slots.
This has nothing to do with storage space as I stll have almost a TB still free and any new games are downloaded and stored and installed on the system but it will not show the newest game or app untill one is deleted.
It actually comes up with a message that there are not enough slots free (nothing to do with memory) and that you must delete a game so the new one can show up on your menu. Saves don't have to be deleted.
I also counted the disc slot, wii slot, wii chat, settings, etc as slots.
It's no big deal right now as I can get rid of demos of games I already have to make room but it would have been nice for Nintendo to warn about a max slot space besides storage space.
If it fills up again I can always just delete tiny vc games I am not playing and just redownload them in less than a minute but I thought the whole mess with the Wii vc was taken care of.
I also know this won't affect a lot of players but I do have worries about the future. Years down the line will I be able to swap out those vc games?
It seems so as the wii vc is still up but who knows.
@SetupDisk Interesting, definitely something I'll look into.
@ThomasBW84
Here is a photo of the screen.
Sorry about the long url the only space I had to put anything is FB.
