Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (21st February)

Still making my way through DQ7 and thoroughly enjoying it. Filling time with Mario Tennis Fever in-between.

Im tempted to play something space orientated so Ive been toying with either a new playthrough of Mass Effect or Starfield on PC.

Probably best to hold that thought as I can't wield too many RPGs at once.

Re: Anniversary: The Legend Of Zelda Turns 40 Today - How Did You First Play It?

Link to the Past for me.

I traded in my Megadrive for the Streetfighter 2 SNES pack when it came out. Probably in 1993 and that was the start of my journey with Nintendo. Whilst the NES was flying high in the US, we were more into our Spectrums and C64s in the UK for the 8 bit generation.

I remember reading an article in a mag (possibly Gamesmaster) at the time on the best RPGs and had never really played anything like them before.

A few months later stashing away my paper round and birthday money, I ordered into our local game shop, a Link to the Past and Secret of Mana. UK at the time, you wouldn't get the likes of Mana just available on the shelf.

Both games blew me away at the time. The scale, the adventure .... absolutely brilliant.

Ive been a JRPG/RPG fan since and Link to the Past is probably the Zelda I've completed the most amount of times.

I probably only first encountered the OG Zelda on something like the Wii virtual console or GBA .... was a bit hard to go back and my nostalgia as above, didnt start there.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Tennis Fever?

@Nintendo4Sonic I still play to this day, Mario Power Tennis on the cube. Quick 30 min blasts doing a tournament or two. Fever is very reminiscent of that and really enjoying it.

Talking of quick blasts, this is one of the fastest games to boot from the home screen to the start menu that Ive seen.

Now what I miss for JRPGs these days is a good old fashioned game guide book. DQ7 would have been the perfect candidate.

Just love looking at the maps, inventories and monster encyclopedia. I dont really use the walkthrough parts much except for the odd side quest bit that is a shame if you miss it.

My biggest score in recent years was a mint condition copy of the XCX Wii U Collectors guide in hardback. £5 in a charity shop. Bargain.

@Anti-Matter thats pretty much the norm to unlock things in all games. Progress, unlock, rinse, repeat.

Not really a gimmick. Only you could spin standard game design as a fault of Nintendo.

Its fine if some games are difficult or difficult for some. Its not a gimmick or bad design .... unfortunately, the world doesn't bend to everyone's individual needs.

@Pillowpants I could have done with this flurry of JRPG goodness happening in October. In the UK and from Spring to Autumn I'm surfing, paddleboarding and skating so gaming time is reduced. October to April is my ideal for gaming time. Not to wish my life away but looking forward to 7 days of the week being mine in about 12 years time. 40 + years of work done, mortgage paid, kids grown up.
