Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Switch 2 Users About Their Experience So Far

Duncanballs

Deja vu for me in a very good way. I'm playing BOTW on new Nintendo Hardware and I'm enjoying it as much as 8 years ago.

I was done with BOTW probably in late 2018. Going back with the upgrade, I've forgotten a lot. It looks and runs fantastic and I'm thoroughly enjoying my second playthrough.

It feels 2017, but a futuristic 2017 if that makes sense.

..... Edit: I don't feel as bad this time using my Piggyback Guidebook for some little nuggets that are easy to miss 😆

Re: Switch 2's Best-Selling eShop Games So Far

Duncanballs

@Rebusmind Yes. When you select upgrade from the start menu, it applies a discount code of 83% off against the full SW2 version on the eshop. Complete the purchase and you will have the full SW2 version digitally and won't need the SW1 cart. Its not a patch, it discounts the full game. When you download it, it creates a 2nd Hogwarts in your library which is the SW2 edition. My son was playing it all day yesterday without the cart. Its a massive upgrade as well. Bargain.

Re: Switch 2's Best-Selling eShop Games So Far

Duncanballs

If you are thinking of getting Hogwarts and don't have it on SW1, if you buy the SW1 version cheap and then upgrade, you only pay £8.49 to upgrade and get the full digital SW2 version.

I bought the SW1 version second hand for £20, used the in game menu to unlock a download discount for £8.49 to download the full SW2 version and then sold the SW1 version to CEX for £13.

In summary, I got the full SW2 digital version for £15.49. Not bad!

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Crushes PS2 To Become Fastest-Selling Console Ever

Duncanballs

I'll openly come on here and admit comments of the past were unnecessary on occasion. No offence to the commentor in question intended and generally only intended as a bit of jest.

Anti Matter you have my apology. We are all gamers and I don't want to see anyone picked on.

Keep being you.

Edit ..... I'm not not likely to jump on the bandwagon of PS5 but 20 ish years ago, I was a demon on Dance, Dance Revolution. I'm more dad dancing these days 😃👍

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

Duncanballs

@Paulo Scam? Really? Its not portraying itself to be anything it isn't.

The OG Switch was hardly a handheld form factor unless baggy pants of the 90s are back.

It would be crazy for Nintendo with the success of SW1 to do anything to different this gen after the success it had.

Its evolved in most of the areas people have asked for many years.

Price is fair IMO for what you are getting.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Switch 2's Screen? Because Some People Certainly Aren't

Duncanballs

No surprise, the OLED is better but I'd rather trade up in a couple of years than pay a high investment to start. Not the most savvy of financial approaches I know but I couldn't hold off for a few years on something that really doesn't bother me that much.

Onto the positives, I'm fine with the screen. Just needed at a small sacrifice to battery to turn off the auto brightness and it looks great to me.

If I want the pretty colours et al, I'll jump on the TV.

Re: Random: Ouch! Switch 2 Owners Are Feeling The Pinch With The New Joy-Con

Duncanballs

Right, so I tried this at launch and whilst possible, it's the smallest of a pinch if at all. I wouldn't think it would even hurt a young child.

This is the Wii Remote in the TV brigade again who would sue for anything.

Its sad that the world we live in has to have a disclaimer on a bag of peanuts to say it may contain nuts.

The sue for anything culture are the worst when most of us put in a hard days graft to earn money instead.

If I saw anyone do it and wince in pain claiming that they will sue Nintendo, my reply would be "Oh dear, did you feel a bit of a pri@k?" 😃

Re: Forget The PS4, Koei Tecmo Reckons Switch 2 Is Closer To Xbox Series S

Duncanballs

There's too many variables to be exact. Its not PS5. Its not XSX. Its probably in the ball park of PS4 Pro to the Series S but will vary game to game, developer to developer.

This is good as this gen we've seen alot of cross gen releases, even when the S has struggled with some.

SW2 is in the right area to continue with current gen multipat releases. SW1 had hit a ceiling of how much further it could go.

Re: Capcom Is Recording Switch 2 Game-Key Card Purchases As "Digital Sales"

Duncanballs

@themightyant Its not a problem to prefer physical and I do understand that digital has its downsides.

I've moved on personally but appreciate it's a bigger deal for some.

I like the constructive debates on here and not in reference to you but some comments are one liners of the dislike and somewhat repetitive when to most it is obvious that digital is here and it's unlikely to change.

My chain of thinking is now on preservation. Digital is here now so what does the future look like in the absence of physical media. I'm confident and positive but will be actively watching the development and discussions on this front going forward.

Re: Sounds Like Switch 2 Is Already Breaking Sales Records In France

Duncanballs

@Varkster I miss the days of magazines for my gaming news. The keyboard warriors of the day couldn't be bothered to write a letter.

Chilled reads on a Saturday afternoon catching up after the chores were done. 🙂

.... I grow tired of the repeated narrative on every article by certain users. Say your piece and move on.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

Duncanballs

For quite a while, whilst I loved my SW1, I did wish that it was more like the Steam Deck.

It's now here and it has surpassed that.

Graphics are not everything but the added performance jump is really making some SW1 games shine.

The console has a premium feel and less fragile and clicky.

Yes the battery could be better but this is about the norm for other devices. Could do better, but the console would have cost more.

Happy with the iterative but substantial new gen model that took a formula proven to be popular and just improved on it.

SW1 was at it's limit of cross gen ports and the upgrade was becoming a necessity to keep 3rd party releases coming.

it's all about the games regardless of the above. If they keep flowing at the rate that they did on SW1, we are in for a real treat this gen.

Re: Video: Super Mario Odyssey Shines On Switch 2 In This Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison

Duncanballs

@Anti-Matter but would you sell Odyssey?

This is where my thinking has changed over physical games. Many games that I have had great experience with doesn't guarantee that I will revisit. I have the experience and memories.

This in part has been a factor in moving to digital for me. I have the option to revisit and hope that the games I do want to, will largely be accessible in 20 years in some shape or form. Its a risk that some wont, agreed.

On that basis, I'm less inclined to store more than I need and want taking up space at home.

Also, my games may last but I doubt current hardware will last as long.

As always, you do you.

Re: The Switch's 'Repairability Score' Has Tanked Following Reassessment

Duncanballs

@KingMike I get that things are complicated as tech has evolved but basic components like batteries, controls etc should not be as intricate as brain surgery to replace.

Don't get me started on clothes. Unfortunately the advent of shops like Primark where you can get a jumper for £10, people don't think twice about replacing it after 6-12 months. 9 times out of 10, that's more man made material going to landfill. I'm not judging people shopping at Primark, just calling out another example where as a society, we consume too much IMO.

On your Apple point, this is one of my points on physical. Yes if physical survives you can keep collecting but in 40 years it's no good if the game media is OK but the hardware to run it isn't.

I know people don't want to hear it and I get the paying twice aspect, but subscription services will become even more important for game preservation in the future. Long way to go and lots of things to progress but digital will be the saving grace.

Re: Switch 2 eShop "Top-Selling" Games At Launch Revealed

Duncanballs

@NinChocolate I still think Labo was a good experience.

I enjoyed the variety pack builds and associated software. It was definitely Origami on a different level. The design of the Piano still impresses me to this day.

Unfortunately the longevity was the killer in both storage of the builds and the long term durability of the material.

Re: Hardware Review (In Progress): Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

Duncanballs

Steam Deck appears to still be the leader on the battery front but look at the size difference.

I haven't fully stretched the SW2 yet on battery power alone, but would be OK with 1.5-2 hours on an intensive game.

Handheld is a bit out of date. These things are more mobile devices in a truer description and with that its quite the norm to have things like battery packs at the ready for long travel.

Re: Switch 2 eShop "Top-Selling" Games At Launch Revealed

Duncanballs

You could say that the tech demo has been a thing since the Wii. Nintendoland, 1-2 Switch and Welcome Tour have all been released to showcase new features.

Not Wii Sports numbers (pack in so expected but equally deserved the praise), but they have all done well.

Putting the charging controversy to one side. I expect Welcome Tour to do well.

Re: Site News: We've Got A Switch 2

Duncanballs

So I've just tracked mine. It's now at my local DPD depot that is 4 miles from my house. 15 mins in the car but no I have to wait until tomorrow.

If I literally go up on a hill with a pair of binoculars, I could probably see the depot.

So close, yet so far.
