@The_Nintendo_Pedant Steam Deck is a great bit of kit. In particular the OLED version.
Soon adapted to the Linux backend. Front end game launcher is one of the best out there and where the others struggle. Handheld Windows really isn't a good experience.
SD and SW2 are a great combo IMO and having both as my weapons of choice give a somewhat overwhelming catalogue to play.
Only niggle I have with the SD is Gamepass. Stream is the default or it's a faff to boot to Windows.
@Nintendo4Sonic and my point was that the SW2 may compare today to be below series S but in a few years time, Devs might squeeze the same performance from SW2.
@Anti-Matter they are one of the most traditional JRPGs out there with each numbered entry, a gem in itself.
Good balance of story. adventure and overall charm. DQ8 and 11 definitely recommended. You can get 8 for your DS and 11 for your PS5 if you really don't want to jump on the Switch version. I would argue that the switch version is the best though 😉
FF evolved but beyond 11 ish, I would argue not in a good way.
My biggest hope for DQ12 is that it sticks with its roots and ultimately ......... sticks with turn based!!!! If I can button mash to victory Im not interested.
The only real time I have ever got into is Xenoblade and it's now one of my top franchises.
I know you dont like mature content, but if you embark into DQ, some minor dated concepts and use of / ref to alcohol, puff puff etc bumping up age ratings but overall tame.
Im expecting Sonic Crossworlds to dethrone MKW for a week or two. MKW will likely rise to the top again shortly after as I imagine the attach rate with new SW2 purchases is high.
Both good games in summary ..... well for Crossworlds, the reviews suggest so.
I had a virtual boy around the 00's. Short lived but I had a bit of fun with Tennis and Wario. Once you accepted the red screen (we accepted green for the Gameboy), it was quite good. Form factor wasn't great though as you couldn't get comfortable sitting for long.
Strange choice in one concept that Nintendo puts alot of emphasis on local co op play. This went against that.
Didn't experience the headaches. Im not sure how virtual boy specific this was as many experience similar with VR.
An interesting offering from Nintendo and as always their R&D bucking the trend of the norm and trying something new. Some winners, some not so much.
The NSO offering for me is a curiosity at most and a bit of short fun but it's hampered by the need for the peripheral. I guess though, thats the true experience if you are willing to bite.
@Sylamp it did with Hogwarts and was the cheapest way to upgrade.
From memory, there was an update to the SW1 version that was a link on the start page. Once clicked, it linked through to the eshop. Not sure if it will be the same but on purchase of the upgrade it downloaded the full digital SW2 version of Hogwarts meaning you could sell your SW1 cart as no longer needed.
@PinderSchloss as much as I enjoy this site when the debate is on point and healthy, I doubt any publishers monitor the comment threads here for the current mood.
@krogp an opinion of value is an opinion. You may be on a crusade to spread the word on key cards with your opinions but as others have said, on certain articles it may be misplaced, off topic etc.
I dont mind key cards, each to their own but Im not commenting on every article that is a key card release about it if the topic isn't about key cards.
I'll read on because I dont really have anymore to say on the subject.
Im no fan of Hello Kitty games or similar but have no issue with anyone who does.
There's no barging in or demanding things. Observations of how difficulty levels could open up games to others and why for me personally, the uber hard games dont appeal.
Its not a demand by any means and if anything I think difficulty levels are better than tinkering to suit for all players.
Im just not up for the ass kicking in some games anymore. I appreciate for some devs it's a choice of design and equally for some gamers part of the fun.
Lots of games I would dive in on if a little easier or the general norm of difficulty.
I probably butchered my twitch fibres on the likes of SF2 in the arcades. Things dont work as quick as they used to.
As a slightly older gamer with all that entails, I wouldn't mind some easier modes in certain games.
Its the reason I haven't entertained Cuphead or Elden Ring.
I know this would go against the developers vision but Im way past the age of trying 100 times to succeed and the controller being thrown across the room.
Im of the era of no saves for games and did my time back then.
@Elitepatriot whilst we could all make comments on any publishers prices, Nintendos software sales are often eye-watering as they are. Im sure they've done the maths with regards to RRP and projected sales.
@ROMhaiku yes probably the PS4 one. I skipped the PS2 and PS3 so my main experience was the PS1 ones and the PS4. Really didnt like the whole hub world thing.

Re: Switch 2 Bundles Get A Surprise Price Drop At Select French Retailers
Im waiting for the Nintendoooooomed comments and too much stock, can't be doing well etc
Competition kicking in. RRP at launch, prices now coming down a bit.
Re: Nintendo Goes Full Pixar In Strange New Animated Short Film, 'Close To You'
From the company who surprised us with Alarmo out of no where.
Its Nintendo so who knows what they are up to next.
Re: Rumour: Red Dead Redemption 2 Port For Switch 2 Really Does "Exist", It's Claimed
Would take this anyday over GTA. Wouldn't mind a top down GTA though. Chinatown wars was good with the OGs.
Red Dead 2, yes please.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?
@Anti-Matter it's not really a gimic and often the norm for Mario games.
They are easy enough to accumulate.

Re: "Lighting Is The Crucial Factor" - How Square Enix Made Final Fantasy VII Remake Look Great On Switch 2

Re: Review: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (Switch) - Cracking Karting, But Struggles To Keep Up On Switch
Patiently waiting for the SW2 edition.
SW1 version struggled in the demo. I could see the potential and hoping the SW2 edition will get the graphical bump it needs.
Its not all about the graphics but I'll take it if it's there.
Re: "Lighting Is The Crucial Factor" - How Square Enix Made Final Fantasy VII Remake Look Great On Switch 2
@Nintendo4Sonic no new console reaches its peak in year 1.
Devs get the best out of the hardware normally after 3-4 years of experience squeezing every last drop from what it can do.
Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Switch) - Still Out Of This World
£49.99 in the UK physical. Pretty good IMO.
Looking forward to playing both on the SW2. Past the midway point in life but always up for some Nintendo magic for the kid in me.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th September)
NMS still. Fantastic game and value considering I only paid £17 in the eshop sale.
Working on unlocking the purple systems today to get the gas giants.
Bit of DIY tomorrow but in the evening, probably some Amiga. Speedball 2 and Populus me thinks.
Might get an Amiga mag today to enjoy with a beer later. Its been a hard week, so looking forward to some treats.
Re: Are You "Unsure" About Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade For Switch 2? Don't Worry, There'll Be A Demo
It ran well on Steam Deck IMO so hoping the demo proves the same for SW2

Re: Nintendo Museum Introduces "Limited-Time" Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Ticket
@Anti-Matter I think you are trying too hard to find something to have a dig about.
This is just an anniversary novelty which is logical to be limited to one year.
Doesn't cost anything extra as far as I can see and a huge amount of companies celebrate anniversaries with PR stuff like this.

@Ristar24 Good call on Speedball 2 on the Amiga. Console versions weren't quite there.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th September)
NMS Voyagers update this weekend. Looking forward to some Corvette building and still trying to find my ideal planet to build my base.

@Interneto trying what to hard? You've lost me.
Re: Sega Reignites Its Nintendo Rivalry In New Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Trailer
This is on the list.
MKW was good but didnt meet the lofty heights of MK8 IMO. Who knows. With some DLC it might get there but the jury is out for me at mo.

Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings
@AverageGamer agreed. Ive completed it twice since release and would like to revisit without the grind for a mellow playthrough to enjoy the story.

@krogp nope but I can call out trolling and comments not adding any value.
Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings
@RupeeClock totally agree that it needs to be transparent but this isn't an article about key cards.
Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings
@dew12333 😄 Hopefully the NL ninjas will be on to it soon.
Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings
@krogp do we have to start all threads with a key card comment?
This article has got nothing to do with key cards.
Re: Nintendo Is "Acting To Protect The Industry" With Switch 2 Game Key Cards, Says Ex-Capcom Composer
Will current hardware still work in 30-40 years time? Not convinced.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 For Switch?
I'll see what the resolution bump looks like. Both look a little tired in their Wii native format.
Im not a graphics snob by any means but I think these games will pop if done right.
Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 Bundle Confirmed For Switch, Launching October
@Anti-Matter lives management is a staple of most platformers.
A quick hop back to an easier level to farm some lives is very much the routine.
Re: Dragon Quest VII Gets Reimagined For Switch And Switch 2 In Early 2026
@nin10doom I'm not abandoning ship just yet but agree, the key card obsession got stale a long time ago.
Are we going to have this for the next 5-10 years as a theme on the road to all digital?
I'm here just to enjoy the games. Whatever the media. Im sticking with my hobby.
Re: Nintendo Direct September 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer
As someone who has owned a Virtual Boy, Im not desperate to go back.
Anyway. Mario Galaxy double pack, MP4 release date and DQ7 gave me a lot to look forward to 👍
Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Prices Are Live, And It's Sticker Shock Time
Happy to pay the price if we are talking the quality of the Metroid Prime remaster
Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?
@SirVick I dont do hats but Im happy with a badge to say I did it the easy way 😃
Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong's Upcoming Patch Will Nerf The Difficulty In Certain Areas
@SpaceboyScreams yeah thanks for that.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong's Upcoming Patch Will Nerf The Difficulty In Certain Areas
@Res462 thanks. I'll look into this. The aesthetics always appealed but the difficulty put me off.
Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong's Upcoming Patch Will Nerf The Difficulty In Certain Areas
@RBRTMNZ not crybabies. Different people, different abilities.
Throwing insults into the conversation shows a real lack of consideration, acceptance of others and maturity.
Join the conversation if you have something useful and respectful to say.

Re: "The Most Impressive Switch 2 Port To Date" - Digital Foundry Examines Star Wars Outlaws
@Guitario not true. I haven't enough hours in the day to play everything I want to on Switch 2.
More than enough content for me.
Re: Ubisoft Employee Explains Why Star Wars Outlaws Is A Game-Key Card
@Anti-Matter remember free will my friend. Have your opinion and make your choice but you can't tell others what to buy and not to buy.
Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games

Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games
Competition? Devs can price as they see fit. Any alignment in the industry on pricing (agreed pricing strategies) would breach Competition Law surely?
Some devs might not like what Team Cherry have done but ultimately it's their choice.
In reality, it wouldn't be good for us if a price structure on different games was apparent. Competition law is there to protect us.
Re: Japanese Charts: Story Of Seasons Makes A Grand Debut On Switch And Switch 2
@kmtrain83 I think the OG still has 2-3 years. That no 1 spot is still up for grabs and some well placed pack in games would help.
Re: Japanese Charts: Story Of Seasons Makes A Grand Debut On Switch And Switch 2
20k OG Switch sales is impressive.
Re: Review: Star Wars Outlaws (Switch 2) - An Underrated Adventure, A Super-Solid Port
Im knee deep in NMS at the mo so this one is on the list for the inevitable Ubi sell off later on.
Glad it turned out OK performance wise after the previews.
Its a key card so I can still trade it in. Looks the type of game I'll enjoy once but probably not go back to.
Re: Review: Everybody's Golf Hot Shots (Switch) - Silly, Satisfying, But Hampered By Patchy Performance & Presentation
@ROMhaiku yes probably the PS4 one. I skipped the PS2 and PS3 so my main experience was the PS1 ones and the PS4. Really didnt like the whole hub world thing.
Re: Review: Everybody's Golf Hot Shots (Switch) - Silly, Satisfying, But Hampered By Patchy Performance & Presentation
Liked these on the PS1 but haven't been a huge fan since. Didn't really like some of the off course added bits. Just wanted to play Golf.
Still enjoy most iterations of Mario Golf. Boot up and straight into a round with no faff.
Re: The Force Isn't Strong With Star Wars Outlaws On Switch 2, Initial Impressions Suggest
Hopefully by the time it's "bargain bucket" price (it's Ubisoft, so give it 12 months max) it will have had some patches.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (30th August)
Sad day. My constructed Labo variety and VR sets have finally gone to recycling. I have two sealed versions so not too bad.
I have my Pacman arcade cabinet on in the background along with my Spectrum. Synth music spurring me along. 👍
Once the chores are done, really enjoying the SW2 version of NMS that I got in the current sale.
