Re: "If Mario Starts To Show Up On PlayStation, That's The Apocalypse, Right?" - Ex-PlayStation Boss Thinks Console Exclusives Are Still Important

Duncanballs

Nintendo survives and thrives on its exclusives because it releases a high comparative volume of them and there are not many duds.

In fairness, Sony has some quality IP but they also have many droughts between releases with long development cycles between announcement and release. Sony survives on multiplat and powerful hardware ..... xbox tried the same but has no unique proposition to win the tech two horse race.

Exclusivity works as proven with high quality and volume.

Ive been coming back for 40 years, so Nintendos exclusivity works for me.

Give it 10-15 years and apart from handheld, hardware will either be dead and buried or on its way out and the only thing that will matter is the games.

As it should and always be.

@LordFunkalot fellow old gamer. Im torn. I think exclusivity works if you produce hardware. Its largely why I have owned every Nintendo console since the NES. In truth though, I have benefitted from multiplat on many machines ..... C64, Amiga, PC etc

Never say never though. Seeing the gaming wars of the 90s, none of us would have ever imagined Sonic on a Nintendo machine!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th December)

Duncanballs

Two weeks off from work started yesterday.

Nostalgia will be strong this holiday with a dust down of my Amiga, Spectrum and C64. The arcades will no doubt get some time.

With the kids back from Uni, Im blessed with my family around me and looking forward to some laughs with Mario Kart and Mario Party.

My son and I will no doubt be playing Talisman and we will have a try of Starcadia Quest for the first time.

Happy holidays people 👍

Re: Rumour: Bethesda's Newest IP Is Still Reportedly On Course For Switch 2

Having got into NMS finally this year and enjoying the freedom of that game, Im a little on the fence with Starfield.

It was good but missed a number of elements that NMS does well with the notable observation on spaceship travel and of course the massive step up this year of corvettes. It wins on combat though. Principly the main difference. One is geared to resource collecting and exploration, the other more story and combat driven.

Hmnn, if only I could mould the two.

However, the prospect of handheld whilst watching something on the TV somewhat elevates it's appeal.

£40 or less and I might bite.

...... Edit, thinking about it, I'd much rather see the remastered Mass Effect trilogy first if talking about space themed games.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

Duncanballs

Im giving it an 8 out of 10..

I think the line up has been good with a combination of upgrades, ports and new releases. For my own personal tastes, Im yet to experience a drought of nothing to play.

Im actually leaning more to handheld than I ever used to with the bigger screen. Battery isnt much of a concern as Im not one to take it out and about and I dont mind the tethering to a plug socket at home.

Im not normally someone who puts a huge amount on the graphical grunt as long as its a good game. That said though, I have been impressed with a number of games that run rather well.

Good start overall in my opinion.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Copy Of Rosalina's Storybook?

Duncanballs

Ive brought up 3 kids to love Nintendo like me. Wind the clock back 15 years ish and would have purchased in a heartbeat for bedtime stories.

Not ready for it yet, but look forward to grandkids one day and bits like this.

..... none of them liked Transformers, Thundercats or He Man but I got them into Nintendo 👍

Re: Ongoing MicroSD Shortages Could Have A Knock-On Effect For Switch 2 Storage Availability

Duncanballs

As someone who isn't that bothered about the slow demise of physical media, I do recognise the additional costs of storage though.

Im used to juggling storage on PC and with a 500 mbps download speed, it's not a problem for me personally.

Whilst I'll have to get a new card at some point, I dont mind Nintendo's reasoning provided previously on out of the box storage, ultimately you decide and the base costs then stay low.
