Re: Splatoon 2 Developers Aren’t Planning More Single Player Expansions

DonSerrot

I have a hard time seeing how they could add new paid multiplayer content without messing everything up unless it was purely cosmetic. I'd be 100% okay with buying another set of challenges that rewards you with some cosmetic themed items. I get the feeling that any story type stuff would most likely be saved for Splatoon 3 though. There were some questions left after the events of the Octo Expansion that I think could make for an amazing story to explore in the next game for sure.

Re: Nintendo Takes A Swipe At Sony Over Fortnite's Cross-Platform Issues On Switch

DonSerrot

Ignoring the clickbait title, none of this is really all that new. From the moment we first got cross-platform multiplayer on the Switch we've heard Nintendo execs say this same thing. We all knew that Sony would still pull this and with every cross-platform game we see this same outrage from the users.

I don't say this to lessen the impact of it. People are right to be riled up and raising a stink about it until Sony takes note of it and loosens up. At the same time there's no reason to be surprised about it because it's the same song and dance on repeat. And while on one hand this works in Sony's favor a little by keeping current users on their platform on the other hand it's going to encourage a lot of people to jump ship with the next hardware generation to a platform that gives them a larger selection of people to play games with.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon GO’s ‘Casual’ Influence On The Mainline Series Is A Good Thing, At Least For Now

DonSerrot

As someone who's been playing Pokemon for a long long LONG time and yet never cared for the competitive side of it I'm pretty excited for these "Let's Go" side games. It sounds like the focus is on the part of the game that I personally play for and it's a chance for them to try some different things with the series with the promise that we're still getting something more traditional at a later date. It's a win win for me.

Re: Video: Watch the Pokémon 2018 Video Game Press Conference Right Now

DonSerrot

I'm trying out the F2P game now. It's literally playing itself. Kinda eh but it's free so whatever. I don't see myself spending that much time with it.

"Let's Go" looks fun as a side game. No complaints here since it's been confirmed that the core main series game is still coming next year. If this was the next main series game I'd be a little concerned but as a side game it's the perfect place for them to experiment.

Re: Nintendo Announces Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! For Nintendo Switch

DonSerrot

I think it looks fun. I'm also really glad that this is a side thing and a more traditional Pokemon RPG is coming next year. I still enjoy playing Pokemon Go and this seems like something that'll be fun to go along with that and is certainly a way to remake (or however they are handling) the older games while at the same time trying something different for the people who have been feeling like the series is stale. I think the series in general has been just fine personally but I won't begrudge them having a "Let's Go" side series to experiment with.

Re: Overwatch Producer Discusses The Possibility Of Bringing The Game To Switch

DonSerrot

I don't think Overwatch is the game for Blizzard to bring to the Switch. A better option would be Diablo III since that is a game that already supports offline play on other consoles and it's already been made for lower powered consoles making the porting process even easier as there wouldn't be much need to tone things back. Overwatch would have a problem of not having ANYTHING for players to do offline and require A LOT of graphical reworking.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Details Of Nintendo Switch Online

DonSerrot

@Not_Soos @SwitchVogel I think they'll do NES and possibly SNES with this Netflix style on demand system and give N64/GameCube their own individual releases.

@607jf If they are charging us for online I'm pretty sure they are going with dedicated servers. Otherwise people would riot.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Details Of Nintendo Switch Online

DonSerrot

You guys are off on a detail about the family membership.
The 8 accounts don't have to be on the same console. They can be on different ones. So theoretically you could split a family membership with 7 friends and pay less than $5 each unless there's a limit on how many Switches a family can be split across.

Edit: Looks like you guys caught it while I was commenting.

Re: Nyko Is Being Taken To Court Over A Bricked Switch Console

DonSerrot

I don't see this holding up at all. The bricking only happened after Nintendo put out an update, and it's hardware that Nintendo hadn't OK'd to be used with the Switch in the first place so it's on the consumer. Nyko didn't sell the dock knowing this would happen. If anyone is to blame here it's Nintendo for not following USB-C standards as @zip said.

Re: You'll Soon Be Able To Edit Your Mii Characters From The Comfort Of A Web Browser

DonSerrot

Hopefully they add some of the clothing to the web editor. Personally I think they should just keep Miitomo functioning just without any new content. Or even just roll the Mii editor/photo stuff into the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app without the question and answer parts. All anyone really cares about is dressing up their Miis and making funny reaction pictures so that should stay and the rest can go.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Switch's Release Date Could Be As Early As November This Year

DonSerrot

I think this is more a common sense thing than anything else. If they really want to hit a 2018 release it'd pretty much have to be November. December would be a little too close to Christmas for them to put out enough copies for all the people who would be buying it as a gift on top of all the people who'd just be buying it for themselves. November pre-Thanksgiving would let them plenty of restocking chances before Christmas.

Re: Looks Like Playtonic Is Ready To Reveal Its Next Game

DonSerrot

I got my backer copy for the Switch, but I've had so many other games to play that it's fallen to the wayside. I'm kinda hoping that the "other stuff" is them adding some of that polish that people always say it's lacking so that by the time I do get around to playing it it'll be at the best it can possibly be. Something new working with a bigger budget and team would also be good.

Re: Rocket League Update Also Has Twitch Support, But It Doesn't Work Right Now

DonSerrot

I wouldn't get excited about what you're thinking.
https://www.rocketleagueesports.com/news/rlcs-returns-tomorrow-with-new-fan-rewards-/
One of the features of the Spring update is adding support for Switch users to get Rocket League Fan Rewards items for watching RCLS tournaments on Twitch. Looks like they added the menu stuff for linking your account but the back end isn't quite ready yet.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter Is Coming To The Switch This Summer

DonSerrot

@JimmySpades In my past experience with Kickstarter games if you don't pick a platform before a certain date they default you to their main platform (usually PC). Not sure how the people making HLD did things so maybe theirs was different. This far after it ended though I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel

DonSerrot

Violent people will be violent with or without video games. Throughout history people have tried to blame popular media for all the evils in the world. TV, movies, even reading books have all come under fire at one time or another. History is filled with violent people predating everything that has ever been blamed for violence, and yet after all this time we're still trying to play the blame game.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend?

DonSerrot

I've been dying inside for the past week since my Switch has been out for repair. It'll most likely be small bursts of WoW and Overwatch between playing "agonize over the repair status page".

I'm hoping for a quick turnaround though since it was just a problem of the fan being on full blast at all times and otherwise it worked fine. It did it since day one and I didn't even realize it was a problem until much later when someone else I know got one and we noticed theirs was completely silent while mine wasn't. By that point I had so much save data invested in it I decided to wait until either that year warranty was close to up or they added some way to back up saves. In the middle of playing Bayonetta I realized just how close that one year was.

Re: Rumour: Is Blizzard Teasing A Nintendo Switch Port Of Diablo 3?

DonSerrot

I can see this happening. It's a game Blizzard has that is both already available in a console format and is still playable offline. Also, with the aforementioned console formats including the PS3/360 this is a game that should be an easier port to make than a newer title like Overwatch. This seems like a great way for Blizzard to get a taste for developing on the Switch and if Diablo III can make the jump without too much trouble maybe we'll see some other Blizzard games ported over too.

Re: Nintendo Changes Requirements For Its Controversial YouTube Creators Program

DonSerrot

"Is this a reasonable move on Nintendo’s part?" This isn't a move on Nintendo's part. YouTube made a change to who get's to make ad revenue on videos and Nintendo is making sure that people who are currently part of their section of the program know what the new requirements are. I'm almost positive that Nintendo has no actual say in this whatsoever.

Re: New RiME Patch Addresses A Multitude Of Sins On Switch

DonSerrot

I think it's a little too late. I dunno, maybe I'd pick it up if I REALLY wanted something to play and it was on sale when there was nothing new coming out. This is the Switch though, and from the sound of things Nintendo has no intention to let there be even the slightest gap in new games.

That said, good on them for making things better. I don't think it should have even released in the state it was before. A delayed game is good eventually. They have to live with the bad reputation the game got forever.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend?

DonSerrot

I never managed to find a copy of Bayonetta 1 & 2 on the Wii U so I'm having a blast with those this weekend. If I manage to finish Bayo 1 I'll jump right into Bayo 2.

Intermixed in there I'm also hoping to finish leveling up my Highmountain Tauren in WoW so I can get the heritage gear on my Druid main I race changed. Gotta get those totems on my back!

Re: Hideki Kamiya Shares Background of Bayonetta 3 Development

DonSerrot

I was never able to find a copy of Bayo 1&2 so the only experience I have was from the demo and watching someone else play. I liked what I saw though, and I'm really looking forward to finally getting to play both games in a few days. I'm also pretty excited that there'll be a third game for me to play at some point in the future.

Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo

DonSerrot

I bought my Wii U because I wanted to play some fun Nintendo games. It was unfortunate that the console didn't get to live up to it's full potential, but it did have those fun games I wanted in the first place. I bought the Switch for the same exact reason. With the Wii U I was a bit sad that there weren't as many games that caught my attention as I would have liked but it wasn't surprising with how rough things were from the start. With the first year there were about as many games in the Switch's library that caught my attention as there were games I own for the Wii U excluding VC titles. The Switch is off to a fantastic start with no signs of slowing down and I couldn't be happier.

Re: Square Enix Has Finished the Score for Project Octopath Traveler

DonSerrot

I'm pretty sure at this point they are sticking with "Octopath Traveler". It's the name people have gotten used to and it pretty nicely tells you what the game's hook is. If anything they'll add a subtitle to it like "Octopath Traveler: The Something of Somethingorother" so that they can turn it into a series of games later adding a new subtitle for each game.

Re: Natsume Staff Discuss the Beginning of the Harvest Moon Series

DonSerrot

Friends of Mineral Town hands down is my favorite Harvest Moon and I haven't found a game in the series since then that has felt as good to me as that one did all those years ago. Stardew Valley on the other hand has been exactly what I was looking for in all Harvest Moon games after FoMT, and wight good reason too as SDV's dev listed Back to Nature (the PS1 game FoMT was based on) as his favorite game of the series.

I'll be honest, everything after FoMT felt lacking to me so I'm probably more or less done with Story of Seasons unless they make a game more reminiscent of FoMT, and I see the current form of Harvest Moon as a cheap imitation trying to pass itself off as the real thing. Meanwhile I'm happy with Stardew Valley and eagerly keeping an eye on what ConcernedApe has planned next. The new content coming with multiplayer has me excited!

EDIT: Also if FoMT somehow get's released as a VC title on the Switch I'll be over the moon!

Re: EA Says It's Still Too Early To Judge Demand For More Games On Switch

DonSerrot

Outside sports titles what does EA even make anymore? I don't really care for sports so that removes me as a potential customer. Sims? It's always seemed meh to me so another strike there. I can't think of anything else they have, that right there speaks volumes. They make games that in the past haven't had much of a presence on Nintendo hardware so the Nintendo audience typically either does without or picks up those games on other platforms. That's not to say they aren't welcome on the Switch, but I personally look at sports titles as glorified AAA shovelware. What they should be doing is bringing a variety of games and seeing what the audience responds best to.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Will Arrive on Mobile in Late November

DonSerrot

@HFish Nintendo plans to use mobile as a tool to push people towards their dedicated hardware. It's less for people who already play games in the series than it is for people who don't. I imagine their plan is to create a situation like Pokemon had. Build hype around the free mobile game then use that hype when the next game comes out on Nintendo's dedicated hardware. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we started seeing info about Animal Crossing Switch early next year with a launch either mid to late in the year.

Re: Talking Point: An Era Ends As Nintendo Continues to Ignore 3D on the 3DS

DonSerrot

I used 3D on and off. Mostly off. It was a fun effect, but I found I could play games longer with it off, and there were enough games that handled some UI elements poorly (Monster Hunter comes to mind) in ways that were uncomfortable enough for me to just stop using it altogether. I'm glad Nintendo finally made 3D work out but at the same time I won't really miss it all that much now that they've gotten it out of their system so to speak.
