It's that time of the week yet again. The working week is finally at an end (well, for some of us, we feel your pain if you have to go to work this weekend), so we're ready to share with you the games playing on our Nintendo Switches and 3DS in the next couple of days. It's a diverse buffet on offer, ranging from classic action-RPGs to multiplayer shooters, and a couple of shmups thrown in for good measure.

As always, be sure to vote on your choices from the poll below and add your own choice in the comments section. Let's get the weekend conversation started!

I'm not 100% sure what games I'm going to dive into this weekend as at the time of writing I'm so drowsy I feel like if I lay down I may not get up again until Monday. Assuming that doesn't happen I'm going to dive headfirst into Fe, rekindle my passion for Stardew Valley, and most importantly of all get as far into Bayonetta 2 as I dare. I'll probably be up for some impromptu multiplayer as well should a certain special someone come online. If you're reading this John, hello.

Despite the veritable treasure trove of indie titles I'm dying to try out, I've been sinking more and more time into Skyrim on Switch - a game I've already played to death years before. It's genuinely incredible having a world like that on a handheld, and swapping over from one reality to another while tucked up in bed after a long day. Having skipped over the DLC first time around, I'm excited to actually uncover some new content eventually, though for the moment I'm still pretty happy sneaking my way around the same old snowy landscapes, glitches and all.

I’m not anticipating having much time to dive into games this weekend, but if I do get a chance I’ve got a new Switch game I’m very excited to unwrap and try out: Gal Metal! I’m a huge music game fan, and I’ve been looking forward to this manic, manga-styled drumming simulator since I first laid eyes on its explosive aesthetic and DIY rhythm gameplay.

I’ll also likely continue playing a bit of VOEZ before bed each night — I’m loving all the post-release support it’s received, and I’ve been having a great time working my way through the new songs from the recent update!

Darn you, Aqua Kitty UDX. You had your claws in me years back when you were in your vanilla form on Xbox 360. But now you’re on Switch, with additional content in tow, and I’m lapping up your arcade-style shmup action all over again. That’s surely going to devour the lion’s share of my weekend right there.

When, and if, I complete all modes on standard difficulty, I’m likely to unwrap my physical copy of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and give that a go. Beyond that? I don’t know. Maybe the wife and I will partake in another round of blindfolded ARMS. I swear I can win this time!

I’ve tried really hard to resist getting it again, but this weekend I’ll likely fold and buy Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 all over again on Switch. As is typical with a Switch re-release, I’m so keen to see how they play in handheld mode, and a higher frame rate sounds good to me. There’s also the fact that I totally sucked at it the original time and want to have another stab at picking up a few more platinum trophies.

The recent release of Mercenaries Saga Chronicles is perfect timing as I’ve been craving a game similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. It might not be the same level of quality, but it makes up for it with the amount of value on offer and the fact it’s on the beloved Switch. As I’ll be out of the house for most of this weekend, I’m hoping to get at least few sessions of this tactical role-playing game in. The biggest problem is trying to decide which game in the series to start with.

This weekend I’ll be delving into SteamWorld Dig 2 on 3DS for review; we loved the game when it released on Switch last year and it will be interesting to see how the 3DS version compares when it hits the eShop next week. Considering how much the Switch is dominating the Nintendosphere at present, it’s pleasing to have yet another reason to pick up its little sibling once again.

Aside from that, I’ll likely be having a kick-about on FIFA 18. I managed to snag myself a physical copy for a very tempting price a couple of days ago, and my partner and I have a great time playing in friendly competition.

I will be spending this weekend to some quality time with my favorite Umbra Witches Bayonetta and Jeanne. I hope that folks who missed the brilliance of the second game on Wii U will now have a chance to play one of the finest action games I ever had the please of completing.

In between chapters, I will serve myself a ridiculously big slice of shmup action with Psikyo’s very first game Samurai Aces, the ridiculously awesome Aqua Kitty UDX (any game that uses a Dune quote as a tag line has to be good) and, thanks to the NL Caravan Shooting Challenge, Aero Fighters 2 is back on the menu. The time to once again show the power of Dolphin is upon us all.

Last weekend I finally finished my months-long quest to collect every moon, coin and outfit in Super Mario Odyssey, it's time to come up for air and check out some of the indie gems I've missed. This weekend I'll jump into Fe and find out more about what that game's all about. The contrasting colours are really visually appealing and the idea of learning how to speak with other wildlife is intriguing.

Aside from that, I'll also be taking a closer look at The End Is Nigh. Our reviewer loved it, but I haven't gotten a chance to play it really. I love Edmund Mcmillen's work, so I'm confident I'll have a good time. I also need to finish Fire Emblem Warriors though... Oh, and Bayonetta! So, I'll probably be playing...everything?

Having spent a lot of time with Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 for our official reviews (you can check them out here and here), I'm now craving something a little different to wash my palette. This weekend I'll be jumping back into Splatoon 2 to give the new version of the Sploshing Machine a 'whirl' (heh heh), as well as continuing to play through Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 on DS with my eldest because he's turned into a Pottermaniac and wants to do all things magic. Shame I can't conjure up a spell to make the game better...
