Fractal Phase's Sky Rogue has been listed on the North American Switch eShop, with a release date of April 26th.
The retro-style arcade combat sim - which has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam - looks a lot like Namco's Ace Combat and Sega's Wing War, and will retail for $19.99.
Sky Rogue is a fwooshy rogue-lite action flight simulator! Blow things up over land, sea, and air, on an infinite number of procedurally-generated islands. Choose one of a diverse set of aeros and kit it out with a dizzying array of weaponry. Go toe-to-toe with enemy aces or assault giant flying aircraft carriers and battleships, but watch out for volleys of missiles; when you die, you're dead.

We're certainly feeling this one, but what about you? Let us know with a comment.

Love the art stye, and this looks like a great game to have a quick blast on the go. I'll be picking this up.
"Sky Rogue is a fwooshy rogue-lite action flight simulator! "
You had me at "fwooshy".
Thanks but I'll wait for StarFox 64-2
A man can dream..
Reminds me of an old game i used to play on the Acorn
@TidusUK You already had one, it's called Star fox Zero
Hello! Project Aces? Isn’t it about time you brought Ace Combat to the Switch? (Although probably snowed under AC7 atm).
In all seriousness this very much tickles my interest; except the whole “rogue like” element. Much prefer specific designed to procedurally generated and a set objective without constantly repeating and getting a little further each time.
I however await a review and pricing with interest.
@TidusUK perhaps you'd be better playing Star Fox 3DS. If you've not been happy with any of the numerous Star Fox games which have come since Star Fox 64, seems all you want is more of the same repeated.
@Blue551 Nah i want a sequel or prequel in the same style, never had the chance to play zero but from what I've heard there are some issues, hopedully we'll have a DX port with fixes...
But maaan 64 was sooo good
And i want a star fox GC sequel too, I'm a big fan honestly
@TidusUK Yea the GC ones are nice
@Pazuzu666 you got me wrong, I explained better in my previous answer to Blue551
This game is absolutely fantastic. Definitely double dipping. I'll miss the modding (I fly a Macross fighter on PC), but am very excited to have it on the go. It scratches that AC itch nicely.
I’ll be double-dipping for this one, as well. It’s not Ace Combat so don’t expect any big story or anything (it’s a rogue-like) but it’s very addictive and perfect for putting on when you want to chill out and shoot down planes for a bit and see how far you can get (to buy more planes and weapons). Plus it’s got a great art style and music. I like it!
Wow... super cool!!!
A month ago I would've complained that the flying genre was near non-existent on Switch. Now there's this, Manticore, Everspace, Starlink, and Skies of Fury DX to choose from. Bought Skies of Fury yesterday, but so many upcoming temptations!
@Alikan How's Skies of Fury? Quite fancy it myself.
@OorWullie I like it so far. The controls are awkward at first, but after the first hour you'll be pitching and rolling pretty naturally. I switched to inverted controls for a more flight sticky experience. Pretty fun but there is no story but it'a WWI, shoot down these fighters, keep these bombers alive, and race through some rings. In the games i've played its closest to Star Wars Battlefront fighter squadron mode.
"Everything at once!" seems to be the Switch mantra. I think I'll be selecting Manticore over this one unless NL reviews indicate otherwise.
Gameplay and art style look great!
But "rogue-lite" and "procedurally generated" are like video game vulgarities as far as I'm concerned.
@sketchturner They are for me, too. It’s like “you couldn’t have just created a few levels yourself?” But for an arcadey flight shooter the procedurally-generated levels work really well and kept me at least coming back for more. Determining the best plane/weapons loadout for each mission adds a slight strategic element which is nice and it doesn’t hurt that it controls so well, either (speaking of the PC version as I haven’t played the Switch version yet).
I want it!
This looks great. I'm still sad we never got another Pilotwings game though. : (
I've got over 50 hours into this on PC and I'll definitely be double dipping, it's that good!
Might get it, especially if we're not getting Star Fox or Rogue Squadron on Switch.
@Alikan Cheers for that, it sounds like it's a game I'll enjoy . I've added it to my wishlist. I'd have bought it this weekend but I didn't know Football Manager would be releasing. I already bought Rogue Aces and Star Force as well on Thursday.
@Racthet916 I'm very impressed with this number. Is it really that good? To me it looks 😒 I definitely would love a new Ace Combat though.
@TheCurator If you understand what you're getting and don't let your expectations get away from you, it's a fantastic game. There's no story or even structured gameplay really, what you've got here is a raw aerial shooter that tasks you with grinding out a playthrough as far as you can before you inevitably die. Your goal is to unlock new planes and customizations so you can progress further with each subsequent playthrough, this is obviously where the "roguelike" part comes in. What keeps you going in this game besides the quest for unlucks and further progression is the outstanding control feel and brilliant dogfighting gameplay. This game won't be for everyone, some will call it tedious or boring, but if you're looking for some exceptional dogfighting that steadily ramps up the challenge, this is your game.
@Racthet916 Thank you for your precise answer. I will include it in my to-buy list.
This looks really good! I'll keep an eye on it.
