This means that them excluding some Pokemon for balancing reasons is another lie that we get to throw out the window too right? Also, I have a problem with the "DLC is cheaper than full second version" thing. They are bringing back half of the missing Pokemon for $30, meaning that there's a good chance that the other half of the missing Pokemon could get $30 DLC as well. That would be $60 for all the potential DLC. No different than getting a full new version other than them drip feeding us content.

@fafonio I'm right there with you. You don't NEED to do any of the IAP stuff to enjoy this game. Those are just there for the whales.
Realistically, Nintendo said up front that they didn't want their mobile games to be a full experience, just enough of one to get people who haven't already to check out the equivalent games on the Switch. More likely than no this game isn't meant for the more general gaming audience who already enjoy their games so it makes sense that most people on fan sites like this don't like it. When people stop expecting it to be something it's not it becomes a more enjoyable game.
@Expa0 This is my feeling exactly. These games have a solid formula, and the exciting new stuff in each new game comes with adding new Pokemon to that familiar formula. Meanwhile, sidegames are the perfect place to try new ideas. If an idea works well then you just started a new side series for people to enjoy. And with how bad they are about retaining fan favorite features (I'm still bitter that there are only three games in the core series where you can have a Pokemon following you) I don't trust them to make good changes to the core formula if they tried.

I played this a couple times and just could not get into it. This game falls victim to one of my greatest pet peeves in mobile games, the stranglehold tutorial. Sometimes with new games I like to play with quality settings and see what works well for my phone, or play with different volumes. When a tutorial is so locked in that you can't do anything but press the button they point you at unless you completely exit the game it just infuriates me. Especially when it goes for far too long like it does in Pokemon Masters. For some reason I'm just not really enjoying the battle system either. I'm thinking it's just from the appearance of too much to do at once on the screen. It just doesn't seem like it's the right kind of Pokemon game for me.
@MagnaRoader The controls (from what I can see) don't seem to stray too far from the way the core platformer works. If you've ever played Shovel Knight before I imagine it won't be far from that with some PVP twists. @Kalmaro Walt Disney was always looking for the most efficient ways to push animation technology forward. After he died I think that fell to the wayside a bit, but he certainly set up a strong foundation for those who came after to work up from. A lot of the techniques he and his animators pioneered back in the day are still used today with digital animation.
@Kalmaro When I was younger I used to watch late night reruns of Walt Disney talking about how they made movies and it always fascinated me. They don't do this stuff anymore, but it's well worth a watch.
It'd be one thing if this was an original character in and original movie, but this is a preexisting character getting a movie adaptation. The whole point is to get preexisting fans excited enough to convince general audiences to go see the movie. Both fans and nonfans agree that the design was horrendous. It's far from the only issue, but it's the one that was easiest to point out. I'm of the opinion that the entire foundation of it is at fault. Watching the trailer made me feel like they got whoever to make it and didn't really care if it was any good or not because they'd just use the brand name to fill seats and call it good. The problem is the brand itself has been a hot mess for a long time now, with games ranging from okay to terrible. The best Sonic game we've had in a long time was made by long time fans. Sega itself doesn't understand what it is people like about Sonic. Honestly, I was not surprised in the least that they gave the okay for a movie that has gotten such a negative reaction from the fans when they've been doing the exact same thing with the games. I don't think a redesign is going to help this movie very much if at all. It'll be like putting a Hello Kitty band-aid on a on a severed limb.
Carrey isn't entirely wrong, but he's definitely looking at this from the wrong perspective. You don't make an adaptation for something like this trying to take ownership of it. You do so to celebrate what it means to the people who love it. Like I said before, if this was something entirely original and not an adaptation then this wouldn't be a big deal. But it's not original, so it has fan expectations to live up to. I'm sure there are a decent number of people getting on the hate bandwagon, but for me this is a character that I grew up with. I didn't start with Nintendo, I started with a Sega Genesis and the Sega Six Pack. I spent years collecting the games, comic books, and watching the cartoons. When I say the movie looks terrible it's coming from someone who wants to see Sonic make a comeback, not someone who doesn't care or actively wants to see him fail. If the people making the movie care more about "ownership" than about the source material I feel like it'll end up turning into a blame game later trying to pin the blame the result on anyone but themselves.
They have self fulfilling data. When they make a watered down version of the game for one platform of course the data will say people aren't playing it. People aren't so stupid that they'll just blindly get a watered down game when they can get the full thing for the same price elsewhere. Release some full games and then see what the data says.
Hopefully they'll start working on a Switch version now. That or open up more to Android TV like they were supposed to because their app still hasn't shown up as compatible on my Nexus player.
@JudgeMethos People act like this invalidates the lawsuit when it's likely that this is the direct result of it. Rather than face lawyer fees and have the courts tell them to fix people's controllers Nintendo is skipping the middleman. This will stop the lawsuit, but only because the reason for the lawsuit is finally getting taken care of. In the end the lawsuit achieved it's goal.
@AshFoxX I was hoping that the threat of the lawsuit would kick them into gear on a controller revision. With how long I've been seeing complaints about and experiencing for myself drifting issues I'm starting to think they probably already worked on it for the Switch Lite. I have a hard time seeing them offer something like this unless they were sure it'd be a one and done fix once and for all.
My left Joycon drifts to the left. I take good care of my stuff, but I also live in the middle of a desert so everything gets dusty really quickly. I can usually fix it for a day or so by lifting the little rubber flap and blowing really hard. I don't exactly have spare cash to throw at new ones every few months or for regular out of warranty repairs. My pro-controller has thankfully been problem free so my plan is to use that and just deal with blowing into my Joycon every once in a while when I use it until Nintendo makes a controller revision that fixes the problem. I honestly see this lawsuit as a positive as it would at least force Nintendo to acknowledge that people are having a problem and hopefully work on that revision sooner rather than later.
Yeah, I'm gonna call BS on this. They already made high quality models to the point that having two Pokemon on screen made the 3DS chug trying to show them. I have seen side by side comparisons of both models and animations being exactly the same from the 3DS games and what we've seen of Sword and Shield. The truth of the matter is they know these games will sell like crazy no matter how much actual work they put into them and are making up excuses hoping to get us off their backs. And to all the people saying they can't reuse the 3DS models on the Switch, they already did with Let's GO. Honestly, I don't care about the models or animations. What I care about is being blatantly lied to. And of all the excuses they could have used I think models and animations was the absolute worst possible one just because of how easy it is for people to pick it apart. They were better off just leaving it at not having time to work them all in but possibly trying to patch them in later. That was fine. Even if they couldn't patch them in it would have placated people until after launch. Everything they've said after the patch suggestion has only done more harm.
A lot of people are comparing this to Stardew Valley and I find that kinda funny. ConcernedApe's favorite Harvest Moon game was Back to Nature, and Friends of Mineral Town was a GBA port of BTN. That's why so many of us who grew up loving BTN/FOMT/MFOMT resonated with Stardew so much. It took the things we loved about those older games and expanded on them instead of adding stuff just for the sake of it.
I tried playing Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games after FOMT and none of them ever really felt right. So when I look at the art style and had about them adding stuff it leaves me feeling a little concerned. I want to get this and love it and finally get to go home to Mineral Town, but I can hear the old saying "you can't go home" in the back of my mind. I just keep saying over and over "please be good please be good please be good".
I watched him very sparingly because of his heavy profanity, but this is very unfortunate nonetheless. I always got a kick out of his over the top Smash Bros. reactions.
I know I'm not alone in feeling like Nintendo is using this to send a message to GameFreak. When Nintendo shows us something that already looks great and says they want to take a few extra months to make sure it's as good as it can be us fans not only understand that, but we also celebrate it. At the same time we have GameFreak telling us they have to cut content in order to release a game on time and we roast them alive and rip every excuse they are using to shreds. If the TV seasons are so important to match the games up with then just have a rerun season. When I was a kid I didn't care if it was a rerun or not, if Pokemon was on I was watching Pokemon. Hire some more people too so they actually have some manpower to make these games. There was a someone on Reddit who made a flying animation for Wingull in a day, I'd start with them. The small team of people they have making the games now won't last forever. They need to pass the series on to new people eventually so better to just get it over with and get some more people sooner rather than later.
I remember my first experience with EBA. I used to visit GameStop every day during my lunch break and one day I decided to check out what demos were available on the DS Download Station. I downloaded the EBA demo to check out after work, and that afternoon I was mesmerized. I made absolutely sure to keep my DS charged so I could keep playing the demo until the next day when I'd be able to buy it since demos on the DS went away if you turned it off.
I also remember the first song that I failed. You're The Inspiration. Everything had been so upbeat and action packed that I wasn't ready for the emotional curve ball of a little girl who's dad died keeping his memory alive. I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't see the screen my eyes were so watery. I had to take a couple minutes before I was ready to try again. It ended up being one of my favorite parts of the game.
EBA is one of my top three favorite DS games, with the other two being Ouendan 1 & 2. As soon as I found out about the Ouendan games I imported them and absolutely loved them even with the language barrier. I was sad that it only ever went as far as those three games, but I'm glad that demo a try, and even now I still get the urge to revisit them from time to time.
@Not_Soos I think what he's saying is more in the vain of "our company is bigger both in size and money than the other third parties" as opposed to "our company is releasing more games than the others". What he said could be interpreted either way.
It feels like this revision stuff has been going around practically since the darn thing came out. They'll probably continue to do so until Nintendo eventually does make an upgraded version. When it eventually does happen it's going to be a "boy who cried wolf" situation. I don't think it's any sort of conspiracy of competitors trying to harm sales, just people trying to be the person who "leaked" it happening and hoping they get lucky because it's a matter of "when" and not "if" it'll happen. In the end Nintendo will tell us when they are ready, not before.
I was kinda hoping they'd do something like letting players add stuff they've crafted in Pocket Camp to the shop catalogue in New Horizons. That'd have been a nice way to add a nice little bonus for playing the mobile game without outright giving the player stuff, just making getting specific things easier. That said, I'm 100% okay with them not connecting to the mobile game at all since that was the main reason I was still even playing it.
Even though I've seen the joke used plenty of times online this was his first Direct, so I can appreciate them using the joke as his introduction to the wider world of gaming. Now that it's out of the way they can move onto bigger and better jokes in the future.
I'm pretty sure we all expected the delay, and it's not really that big of one either. Dips like this really feel like par for the course, it happens almost every time Nintendo has an exciting Direct with big stuff. I don't even pretend to understand what these investors are thinking.
When the Fighter Pass was first announced Sakurai said that the new fighters would be completely new from the ground up with whole new move sets and not echo fighters.
I'm mainly hoping for some details on already announced games like Bayonetta 3 and Animal Crossing.
Animal Crossing specifically, I'm hoping we get something that builds on the previous games more than anything. I don't want to be the mayor again, but I do think having the player become the city planner would be an upgrade. Give the player more fine control over things. Let the player designate zoning for different purposes like residential to better control where new animals move in, and let us relocate animals for a fee. Let us place down actual paths made from stone or brick that blend into the environment. Bring over limited use tools like fishing nets and honey from Pocket Camp, but change them into a set and come back in a few hours sort of thing. I mainly just want an HD normal Animal Crossing with some quality of life changes.
For other games I still have hopes for Banjo in Smash, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone else entirely. Pie in the sky wishes would be for a new Switch Monster Hunter and Nintendo working out some kind of deal with Microsoft to get some N54 era Rare made games like the Banjo-Kazooies and DK64 remastered and released on the Switch. Unlikely, but it'd be really cool.
Over all though I just want them to give me something to be excited about. So far this E3 has been very underwhelming for me. It wouldn't take much for Nintendo to "win E3" at this point. They could practically just show up and talk about the Smash DLC for 40 minutes and be good.
@Emob Technically, making a Wii version and not a Wii U version means they can support two consoles with every disc printed instead of just one. It's pretty efficient seeing as how the game wouldn't get any benefit from Wii U specific features anyway.
My hope is they are doing a Banjo-Kazooie remaster on both Xbox and Switch, and they wanted to save that announcement for Nintendo so they could immediately roll it into a Banjo Smash DLC announcement while people are at maximum hype. Maybe with a dash of an Xcloud powered Xbox Game Pass coming to the Switch as a bonus.
My expectation is it's just because of the games like Minecraft Dungeons and Spiritfarer that are already confirmed to be coming to the Switch. Most likely it's just Microsoft's way of saying "These are when you'll see anything that even remotely has to do with our brand".
I didn't expect Miyamoto to be there, but I was at least hoping they'd announce a Banjo-Kazooie remaster or something. At least I'll get to have some fun watching the PC crowd rip them a new one over how hard they were trying to sell the power of the next Xbox as being something never seen before.
I feel... conflicted. Sonic's design was just part of a laundry list of problems I felt from the trailer. I don't think a redesign will be enough to save things. Bringing in Tyson Hesse would be a good sign design wise, but I'd feel really bad for him being tied to this trainwreck waiting to happen.
Didn't they say before the movie hit theaters that they were planning on making a sequel if it did well? Either way I'm not surprised. They did good and for sure they'll want to see if lightning can strike twice. Though, the writer news is a little troubling.
I tend to not put much stock in movie critic reviews. I feel like they have to sit through so many different kinds of movies that they have very different tastes from the average viewer. They try to look for something that is high art, while general moviegoers are looking for something entertaining. Detective Pikachu is certainly entertaining.
Just from the trailer it feels like they are trying to set up a series, with this as Robotnik's origin story. The big mistake is trying to make it fit on EARTH. Don't do that. Sonic has never been part of our Earth. Closest he ever came was when the Archie comics had his world be Earth in the future, with all the anthropomorphised characters as the results of generations of mutations from nuclear fallout. Normal humans survived and rebuilt, and the animals became people. That's about as deep as I'd ever want to go for a Sonic story. Just let the story be in it's own world where things can actually be true to the games instead of trying to bend the game to our world. Putting him in our world is just a cop out to get around actually needing to understand the games and instead focusing on the blue thing with an attitude. Because now not only do they have to convince the general audience to go see it, but they have to do so with gamers working against them instead of with them. Detective Pikachu is the exact opposite, they have a story that from the sound of things the general audience will enjoy, and gamers are absolutely excited about it making it that much easier.
I'm so glad we are getting Detective Pikachu first. That should keep the hate centered squarely on the Sonic movie. I'm still gonna see the Sonic movie just to witness for myself how much of a trainwreck it'll be.
@DartBuzzer I wasn't talking about the ability to see in 3D, I was talking about the ability to handle seeing things in 3D. Some people get sick while looking at 3D effects because their bodies can't handle the disconnect from what the eyes are experiencing. Even if they can see things in 3D in real life, that's a completely different sensation to VR.
3D isn't for everyone, I have family members who can't watch 3D movies, but I can handle them just fine. In fact, last night I tried BOTW using the 3D mode on my TV just to see (as I don't own Labo) and I was perfectly fine.
I think achievements can be fun as extra goals to go for in a game, but not having them isn't a deal breaker or anything. And really, games like Stardew Valley and even Smash Bros Ultimate have their own built in achievement like things. Nothing is stopping devs from making their own, and there isn't really a need to have them at a system level. So I say it's a non-issue. Now folders on the other hand...

@Kalmaro When I was younger I used to watch late night reruns of Walt Disney talking about how they made movies and it always fascinated me. They don't do this stuff anymore, but it's well worth a watch.

Re: Jim Carrey Responds To Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Backlash, Delay And Redesign
Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO
They have self fulfilling data. When they make a watered down version of the game for one platform of course the data will say people aren't playing it. People aren't so stupid that they'll just blindly get a watered down game when they can get the full thing for the same price elsewhere. Release some full games and then see what the data says.
Re: Amazon Prime Video Is Dropping Support For The Wii U This September
Hopefully they'll start working on a Switch version now. That or open up more to Android TV like they were supposed to because their app still hasn't shown up as compatible on my Nexus player.
Re: Nintendo Will Reportedly Fix Joy-Con Drift For Free And Refund Customers Who Paid
Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues
Re: Game Freak Isn't Reusing 3DS Models In Pokémon Sword and Shield
Re: Story Of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town Gets Western Release And New Info
Re: Random: Rare's Logo Is Actually A Golden Toilet Roll
How did I know most of the comments would be people correctly stating that the logo has the TP the wrong way around.
Re: Police Confirm That YouTuber Desmond "Etika" Amofah Has Died
I watched him very sparingly because of his heavy profanity, but this is very unfortunate nonetheless. I always got a kick out of his over the top Smash Bros. reactions.
Re: Nintendo: It Would Be A "Disservice" To "Loyal Fans" To Release Animal Crossing In A Rushed State
I know I'm not alone in feeling like Nintendo is using this to send a message to GameFreak.
Re: Video: Explore The Musical History Of The Elite Beat Agents
Re: Phil Spencer Says Microsoft Had No Problem With Banjo-Kazooie Appearing In Smash Bros. Ultimate
@Not_Soos I think what he's saying is more in the vain of "our company is bigger both in size and money than the other third parties" as opposed to "our company is releasing more games than the others". What he said could be interpreted either way.
Re: Nintendo Moves Switch Manufacturing Out Of China, Two New Models Reportedly In Production
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Won't Have Direct Connectivity With The Mobile Entry Pocket Camp
Re: Random: Here's How Nintendo's Bowser Gag Went Down In Japan, Where He's Known As Koopa
Even though I've seen the joke used plenty of times online this was his first Direct, so I can appreciate them using the joke as his introduction to the wider world of gaming. Now that it's out of the way they can move onto bigger and better jokes in the future.
Re: Atari's Take On The "Classic Edition" Trend Will Cost You At Least $250
Atari never seems to learn do they? They can't see past the $$ in their eyes enough to see the looming landfill in front of them.
Re: Nintendo's Market Value Drops By $1 Billion After Animal Crossing Switch Delay
I'm pretty sure we all expected the delay, and it's not really that big of one either. Dips like this really feel like par for the course, it happens almost every time Nintendo has an exciting Direct with big stuff. I don't even pretend to understand what these investors are thinking.
Re: Banjo-Kazooie Confirmed For Smash This Fall
When the Fighter Pass was first announced Sakurai said that the new fighters would be completely new from the ground up with whole new move sets and not echo fighters.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Will Make Use Of Your Poké Ball Plus, But Not Completely
This is about what I expected. I bet if we get a Let's Go Joto it functions as a controller again.
Re: Nintendo E3 2019: What Are You Hoping For?
Re: Just Dance 2020 Arrives On Switch And Nintendo Wii This November
@Emob Technically, making a Wii version and not a Wii U version means they can support two consoles with every disc printed instead of just one. It's pretty efficient seeing as how the game wouldn't get any benefit from Wii U specific features anyway.
Re: Microsoft Details Xbox E3 Schedule, Lists Nintendo Direct As A Place You "Need To Be"
My hope is they are doing a Banjo-Kazooie remaster on both Xbox and Switch, and they wanted to save that announcement for Nintendo so they could immediately roll it into a Banjo Smash DLC announcement while people are at maximum hype.
Re: Rumour: Shigeru Miyamoto Will Be On-Stage During Microsoft’s E3 Briefing (Spoiler Alert: He Wasn't)
I didn't expect Miyamoto to be there, but I was at least hoping they'd announce a Banjo-Kazooie remaster or something. At least I'll get to have some fun watching the PC crowd rip them a new one over how hard they were trying to sell the power of the next Xbox as being something never seen before.
Re: The Director Of Sonic Mania Adventures Might Be Working On The Blue Blur's Movie Redesign
I feel... conflicted. Sonic's design was just part of a laundry list of problems I felt from the trailer. I don't think a redesign will be enough to save things. Bringing in Tyson Hesse would be a good sign design wise, but I'd feel really bad for him being tied to this trainwreck waiting to happen.
Re: Rumour: A Sequel To Detective Pikachu Is Already In Development
Didn't they say before the movie hit theaters that they were planning on making a sequel if it did well? Either way I'm not surprised. They did good and for sure they'll want to see if lightning can strike twice. Though, the writer news is a little troubling.
Re: Pokémon Detective Pikachu Shocks The Competition In Its Opening Weekend
I tend to not put much stock in movie critic reviews. I feel like they have to sit through so many different kinds of movies that they have very different tastes from the average viewer. They try to look for something that is high art, while general moviegoers are looking for something entertaining. Detective Pikachu is certainly entertaining.
Re: Talking Point: Not Appealing To Gamers First Is A Dangerous Strategy For The Sonic Movie
Re: Rumour: Is This Our First Look At Jim Carrey As Doctor Robonik In The Sonic Movie?
I'm so glad we are getting Detective Pikachu first. That should keep the hate centered squarely on the Sonic movie. I'm still gonna see the Sonic movie just to witness for myself how much of a trainwreck it'll be.
Re: Hands On: Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild VR Made Us Want To Puke
@DartBuzzer I wasn't talking about the ability to see in 3D, I was talking about the ability to handle seeing things in 3D. Some people get sick while looking at 3D effects because their bodies can't handle the disconnect from what the eyes are experiencing. Even if they can see things in 3D in real life, that's a completely different sensation to VR.
Re: Hands On: Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild VR Made Us Want To Puke
3D isn't for everyone, I have family members who can't watch 3D movies, but I can handle them just fine. In fact, last night I tried BOTW using the 3D mode on my TV just to see (as I don't own Labo) and I was perfectly fine.
Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?
I think achievements can be fun as extra goals to go for in a game, but not having them isn't a deal breaker or anything. And really, games like Stardew Valley and even Smash Bros Ultimate have their own built in achievement like things. Nothing is stopping devs from making their own, and there isn't really a need to have them at a system level. So I say it's a non-issue. Now folders on the other hand...
