Stoic, an independent game development company, and Versus Evil, one of the leading independent video game publishers, have revealed that indie role-playing strategy hit The Banner Saga is coming to Switch eShop on 17th May.
The Banner Saga is an epic single-player driven Viking saga, where a player’s choice in travel, conversation and combat determines the outcome of their own personal story as well as the survival of an entire civilisation. The game features stunning 2D animation and art, a unique tactical combat system and a cast of unforgettable characters, all of which drive this epic journey forward.
Here's what Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil had to say about this impending release:
"Launching The Banner Saga on Nintendo Switch is an exciting moment for us, as we gear up in 2018 to enter the third and final chapter of the series it’s only fitting we give Nintendo players an opportunity to enjoy this award-winning Viking inspired saga where the journey begins."
John Watson, Technical Director at Stoic added to this:
"We've always strived to share this epic series and the narrative of the saga across a variety of platforms and we are thrilled to now bring the Banner Saga to a whole new community of console players on the Nintendo Switch."
Well it all sounds rather lovely. Let us know if you plan to pick up The Banner Saga for your Switch when it arrives on 17th May.

Sounds great. More and more things to occupy myself with while travelling next week.
Very, very interested to dip my toe into this series on Switch as well as the upcoming VC 1 and 4. Heard nothing but positive opinions on this IP and I'm keen to expand my turn-based strategy experiences having been totally smitten by the likes of FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING and MARIO + RABBIDS: KINGDOM BATTLE in recent years.
Any idea of price?
I've wanted to try this series for a long time. Waited for it on Vita but it got cancelled, switch version would be even better. but after hearing that PS4 and Xbox are getting physical versions of the entire trilogy I may have to wait for a possible switch version.
I have the PC version, but I didn't play it much. The portable nature makes it a lot more attractive.
Definitely excited to play this. I tried before on my phone, it was too small a screen. This is another series perfect for the Switch.
I've seen this game come up on and off over the years and it's always seemed interesting but I never picked it up. This might finally be the version to change that.
will wait and see if we can get it physical first.
Why did they have to release it right next to Hyrule Warriors?
Any clue on price?
I just love the art direction the developers took with these games. I, however, have never had the chance to play them, so I'd say now is as good of a time as any to jump in.
Good lord, what a great game. Probably one of the best in the indie-cahegory. The gameplay is deep and compilicated and the art style is just breathtaking. They should do a physical release with both episodes included.
Played the first on the PC and the sequel on my iPad. Both very good games, but I definitely prefer the handheld nature for this type of game and the Switch is perfect for this.
@Whalehome @Lroy
The price is already announced on eshop.
Only once / if it will release physically. Enough physical games coming out to spend my money on right now.
@0muros It isn't on the UK eShop yet. Checked earlier today and I see it is up on USA Store for $19.99. Hopefully, it will be £14.99 or less for us Europeans and not £19.99.
I'm holding out for the physical release.
I want the complete edition that PS4 and Xbox One got.
@ballistic90 this may sound minor, but I recommend any version BUT PC for the first game these days. Tryggvi, a kinda weird character whom I adore, was a Kickstarter backer character on PC. He's not otherwise available, despite being part of the group at the start of the second game. He IS, however, obtainable in all the ports of the game.
@Lroy I find it so stupid that eshops doesn't update at the same time. Sorry I had assumed that you use US account like me.
Still working my way through Mercenaries saga, done game 2 and almost finished 3. Need to go back to 1 as I cocked up my first play through somehow - luckily not too far in.
So onto my wish list as I am also playing South Park ATM only 5 hours into that but I hear it is only a 15 hr game anyways
Wait, is this just the first BS game?or a collection?
With battle chaser release on 15th may. I have to work out which title to buy. Has anyone place both titles and have an opinion which is better?
I've always wanted to play this and never gotten around to it.
