During today's Nintendo Direct it was confirmed that Dark Souls: Remastered will be getting its own amiibo.
Solaire of Astora - one of the most popular characters from the entire Souls series - will be immortalised in plastic form, complete in his iconic "Praise the Sun" pose. Using the amiibo in-game will allow your character to perform this pose, encouraging all kinds of jolly co-operation with other 'Sunbros'.
It was also confirmed that a network test will take place before launch, allowing Switch owners to try out the game before they buy - and presumably give Bandai Namco and FromSoftware some advance warning of any potential online performance issues. Details of this test will be coming soon.
Dark Souls: Remastered launches alongside the Solaire amiibo on May 25th. We're already counting down the days.

DAY ONE!!!! As a Dark souls fan and a Dark souls board game player, I need this game and this amiibo.
I can't wait!!!
I never really wanted an amiibo but this....this is gold!
Pre ordering this is going to be a nightmare...but it must be done.
What a disappointing Direct. Looks like I'm still waiting for E3 for essentially everything I hoped for. Smash announcement was cool.
I'm not entirely sure if I'll pick up Dark Souls or not, but I REALLY WANT THIS AMIIBO.
Never played Dark Souls. All I know is it's hard so I look forward to finally getting into it.
This one better not sell out fast like all the Zelda ones I've attempted to get.
Need.
I've never even played Dark Souls and don't plan to, and I need this amiibo.
The amiibo looks hilarious.
@Prof_Yoshtonics This was a fantastic Direct. Not disappointing in the slightest.
@Cosats Same thinking than you. I liked the direct, just enought stuff to wait for E3.
I don't care for the game nor will I play it, but it's nice that Nintendo is still making Amiibos!
@Cosats No new Switch games. Sure a few rumored ports I've already played. Crash, South Park, Okami HD. Smash was the highlight. I don't play Arms or Splatoon and Mario Tennis looks super weak. Where was Wolfenstein? Y's VIII news? Maybe a M&L Rpg for Switch. I'm disappointed and awaiting E3.
@NewAdvent I sure hope so.
As someone who never played it as little knowledge of it other than "git gud" what does the sun pose do, if anything? Buying an amiibo for a pose may be the lamest thing I've ever heard. For a game with it's reputation I was thinking something along the lines of God mode. Or maybe just Super Saiyan. A glowy gold guy would look so weird in that world. 😉
This is glorious
Didn’t expect this, haha. Love it.
This game hasn't interested me at all, it just looks boring in my opinion.
Hopefully the network test will get me hooked on the gameplay!
@rjejr The pose is merely a cosmetic thing, just for greeting other players mid-game. The poses are generally available already in the game, though I'm unsure if the player was able to do 'praise the sun' in the original DS1. Hopefully someone will clarify.
So, yeah, it's pretty much to sell the amiibo on the attraction of the physical model alone.
I want this.
@gordjscott You can do the Praise the Sun emote in the original, this presumably just unlocks it early.
It would be awesome if this Amiibo worked with a new Zelda game to unlock Solaire's armor or the pose. Maybe it'll work on Smash?
But...but..but Amiibo is dead!!1!
Seriously though, this is pretty cool.
I am not even a Dark Souls fan really. But I will buy this for the memes.
That's hilarious.
This made me laugh far more than it should have. Definitely a day one buy for the amiibo
Really interested in giving this network test a try. I've never played Dark Souls before but I want to give it a go.
The amiibo is up for grabs in the US. It's a GameStop exclusive. I just ordered mine.

@Prof_Yoshtonics No offense, but I think that you and quite a few other complainers were expecting FAR too much from this. It was, for all intents and purposes, an extended Mini Direct with highlights and some really good surprises.
The ports argument for a number of games, such as Okami HD and Southpark TFBH is false, as many others have already pointed out to you and other disappointed people, because they're current gen, multi-platform games.
If those are ports, then they are ports on all the other systems too, but you see no Playstation or Xbox fan complaining like people on here are doing, which is actually quite the sad conclusion.
And how was Mario Tennis Aces "super weak"? I think it's safe to say that to say something like that, is quite a big over-exaggeration...
From what they showed, it is probably going to be the most elaborate Mario Tennis ever made, with more characters, playing fields and modes than ever before, and it also looks quite deep control-wise, with both new over the top features and "normal" tennis features, making for quite the good experience.
This could only ever be considered weak or bad, if it just isn't your type of game, but other than that, it seems like a pretty decent game to me.
As for the rest of the Direct: it was solid, and that's no opinion. They showed what they could show, and had a few nice surprises in their too, so only the most negative of people would see this as a bad Direct, sorry to say so, but that's really the case.
They were NEVER going to announce anything as big as new triple A titles, Pikmin 4, let alone show footage of Metroid Prime 4 or something to that extent. Anyone hoping or believing that, was always going to be disappointed, so they went into this with a negative mindset already, and that's a shame.
Those people, and perhaps you as well, could have had a considerably better Direct, or at least a more decent one, if hopes weren't set so astronomically and unrealistically high...
What's also sad is that (besides you because you only stand out this time around, so please do not take this bit of ranting personally, since it's not directed at you) it's ALWAYS the same damn people complaining and whining, always being highly unrealistic with their wishes, or should I say demands, and it has gone from bad to worse in the last 1,5 years.
This used to be a great place, and one of the better Nintendo-related sites, but nowadays, cantankerous and negative p*** ants, angry trolls, whiny leprechauns and what not spoil the entire site for the good and positive people, that like to have fun talking about their hobby, without seeing someone b**** and moan in nearly every damn article.
Those are the moments that I am REALLY starting to feel old, even though I'm "only" 47. It sucks the energy, and any bit of pleasure that I might get from visiting the site, right out of me.
Bunch of friggin' idiots.... Yègh!!! /r
I miss the amiibo window already....damn!
@ThanosReXXX , LOL HAHAHA. , Great comment I completely agree , you really just have to ignore the complaining and realize its just someone wanting to be a complainer and negative for the point of just being negative - people tend to think if they dont like something then no one else should either and it goes without saying people like this also have very unrealistic expectations as well . I thought the direct was a great surprise and what Nintendo showed was awesome.
Never played Dark Souls, so it will be a good time to try it out. And get killed multiple times while trying it out.
Try and get that for a friend. He'll love that being a huge souls fan, ha ha.
Although the pose is kinda funny,is it really worth $13-$30 for unlocking a visual gag of the character? This is only slightly above Nintendo games with have amiibo functionality for unlocking costumes.Amiibo should have a more integrated role without feeling like locked content behind a figurine.
@Elvie seeing that it’s something you can find and do inthe game, the amiibo is more for collectors. But swing that it’s a couple months away, maybe they have more to announce. 2 months ago, dark souls wasn’t even announced.
Yes! Love me amiibo 😁😁😁
@Prof_Yoshtonics
I think Ys VIII was detailed in a NIS America event. Sometimes you have to look at non-Nintendo stuff for that sort of news. Keep an eye on Bethesda for new about Wolfenstein.
I. NEED. THIS.
A hint of inclusion in Smash? I always think that when they release these out of no where Amiibo (see Shovel Knight)
Highlight of the Direct for me; looking forward to the network test. I wonder if this will be cross-play.
@Romeo-75 Thanks. Wasn't trying to be a finger pointer, but I just HAD to get that off my chest. I really enjoyed the Direct, and then you come to this site to check the various articles about it, and all you see is the usual suspects, and then some.
Almost makes you wish we could go back to the time of monthly magazines, with no internet and no whiners every damn day...
Almost, mind you...
@JTMnM
It appeared to have lasted about two (2) hours.
Funny thing is that there are only two (2) on eBay (at 5x and 6x markup) — which makes me wonder where they all went.
I hope I can find this amiibo!!! I must have it for my collection!
@gordjscott "So, yeah, it's pretty much to sell the amiibo on the attraction of the physical model alone."
Thanks. I thought the inclusion of a god mode in a Souls game was kind of defeating the purpose and a bit too much to ask for.
Awesome I'll just preorder this sweet guy aaaaaaaaand it's gone. [removed]
Mind your language - Octane
Yeah I didn't even think this would be up already - what the f*************** - I stopped shopping at Gamestop so I was just checking my Best Buy and Amazon stuff - this blows
I have never played a DS game... this will be my first! Do we know the price?
@mike_intv Of course! My first thought after seeing the amiibo's unveiling was how much scalpers are going to celebrate.
I assume popular amiibo will be even more difficult to get, due to the Switch being an enormous success. To get an edge, I get Twitter updates from a couple different pages that notify followers when new amiibo hit the market. It's not easy for us collectors!
@JTMnM I use the same tools. But it is tough when you are off Twitter for the evening and an exclusive item releases and sells out within two hours.
This is also a bit of a cautionary tale as had I been able to order the amiibo, I would have certainly bought the game. Now I am not so sure.
