This is good news because until now, NIS hadn’t announced Switch 2 versions of any of the previously released Trails games. This suggests Daybreak 1 & 2 may get Switch 2 versions, which would be good since the Switch ports are not so great.
One other thing to remember though — Falcom has hinted that they’re planning to remake the Crossbell games. So we may get new versions once again in a couple years.
I got a Switch 2 soon after launch, but until recently, I wasn't sure it was worth it. Then came the update that added "boost mode," and that changed everything. Now every Switch 1 game runs on Switch 2 handheld in higher resolution, and many with better frame rates. Switch 2 is now the definitive Switch.
I wasn't expecting much from the first movie, but I was still disappointed. It really felt like the epitome of soulless, corporate IP slop. Obviously I have no expectation that Galaxy will be better, but I'll probably watch it streaming with my kid at some point.
@RiasGremory Yeah, it would definitely fit on a cart. The Steam version is only 50GB.
It's nothing more than a cost-cutting measure by devs, since it offloads the cost of storage onto the consumer. What I don't understand is why they don't see all the bad press GKCs are getting, and that collectors would rather spend more on a game-on-cartridge than save money on a cheaper GKC.
@AussieMcBucket No, the consensus is that you should jump right into Snowrunner. It's basically a much-improved version of Mudrunner, and it has hundreds of hours of content (plus hundreds more in DLC), so Snowrunner is really all you need.
Love this game. This is great news. The only downside is that Switch 2 doesn't have analog triggers for proper control of the gas pedal.
FYI for anyone (like me) who has put hundreds of hours into this game on other platforms, there is a way to transfer save files between platforms, and I assume it will work with Switch 2 as well.
Essentially, all of them. Almost every Switch 1 game was running in 1080p (either native or upscaled) in docked mode, so they should all benefit. I'm noticing a huge visible improvement for every Switch game.
@RupeeClock Yes, these are the big questions. I own a physical copy so I would love a free upgrade that works with all S1 versions. The S1 version is great but runs at a low resolution, so it looks blurry.
This is amazing news. I've put hundreds of hours into the game on PS4 and was waffling about whether to get in for Switch 2. Can't wait to play it handheld for another 200 hours.
When I bought my Switch 2, I expected a lot more 1st and 3rd party upgrades. The pace of these is really disappointing. How hard is it to at least unlock 1080p in handheld?
I’m really hoping for Switch 2 upgrades for Trails through Daybreak 1 & 2. I haven’t played them yet but apparently the Switch versions aren’t great visually.
@Dee123 There's a lot of shovelware and derivative crap these days, but this game isn't that. It's an extremely polished, well-crafted game that the devs have put a lot of love and care into. If you haven't played the demo, I highly recommend doing so.
@HernandeZzz The difficulty is well-balanced, but there’s also a ton of adjustments you can make in the settings, e.g. cutting the damage you take by half.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of these visuals. Octopath 1 & 2 are amazing-looking games, but these DQ versions just look disjointed. The characters and monsters look OK, but the backgrounds just look like simple, generic 3D backgrounds. I'll be skipping these.
@PessitheMystic Agreed. Despite what some people are saying, I don’t think the lineup of games is strong so far. And I’m very disappointed that there have only been a handful of 1st and 3rd party Switch 1 games that have received Switch 2 graphical upgrades. I was expecting a lot more and that’s why I bought it.
I agree about the drab colours, but it’s not just that. Everything looks a little too clean and is lacking character. It looks like a diorama, not a living world.
My expectations for the 1st movie were low, and I was still disappointed. It didn’t make me laugh, or feel anything. I don’t have high hopes for the sequel, but I’d love to be proven wrong.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I find that these games are visually awkward. Unlike Octopath Traveler, where the environments also have a pixelated look, the contrast between the pixelated characters and hi-def environments is visually jarring. I find that the "HD-2D" style can be done well, but this isn't it.
@MS7000 Yeah, DQ Builders 2 is so good. It shows how much better a life sim/city builder like Animal Crossing could be. Hopefully this Pokemon game learns some lessons from it.
@EarthboundBenjy Yeah, I noticed the issue with the play timer continuing to run in sleep mode. I wonder if a patch could retroactively adjust the times to be accurate.
@Zuljaras I don’t think you’re right about that. Resellability is a big factor for many collectors, including myself. As a collector, I sometimes sell games I’m no longer interested in to make space, and funds, to get new games. I know many collectors do the same.
@LazyDaisy It’s looking like PS4 is a good benchmark for what Switch 2 can do. Some games seem to run better on Switch 2 (Cyberpunk), some run worse (Hitman), but it mainly comes down to optimization.
I got about a third of the way through, but I found the backtracking too much. I don't like to use guides so there was a lot of unnecessary travelling, and eventually I couldn't do it anymore.
@sixrings I really don't think I should be called toxic for saying that I hardly play my Switch 2. I have lots to play on Switch, but I'm sort of regretting spending $700 (CAN) on Switch 2 when I hardly use it.
@r0mer0 Actually, if your calculations are correct, then the text size on Switch 2 should be around 1.65 mm because it's upscaled from 720p. But it will be slightly less crisp as a result of the upscaling.
Text size is my main concern, so I may just get this for my Macbook instead.
This was my most anticipated game of the year, and I haven't been disappointed. I'm 12 games in (going in order) and having a blast. Highlights so far are Bug Hunter, Attactics, and Avianos.

Re: Gallery: Fangamer's UFO 50 Deluxe Edition Is Packed With Nostalgic Goodness
What an amazing game.
I really want the guide, but shipping is brutally expensive. It seems like a must-have though.
Re: Bleak Survival City-Builder 'Frostpunk' Is Coming To The Switch
I'll most likely get this. Hopefully it will run at 1080p in docked, which means 1080p handheld on Switch 2. Also I hope the text isn't too tiny.

Re: SnowRunner Listing Spotted For Switch 2
@AStupidID Hopefully this port of Snowrunner will have analog trigger support. Most Switch 2 games, even driving/racing games, don't.

Re: SnowRunner Listing Spotted For Switch 2
@Ironcore It's really worth playing if you're into driving games (and if you have a wheel, I assume you are!)
Re: SnowRunner Listing Spotted For Switch 2
@Ironcore This is straight up not true. The game supports wheels on PS4 and PS5.

Re: Square Enix's Gorgeous HD-2D Zelda-Like 'The Adventures Of Elliot' Launches This June
After playing the demo, I think the game’s much closer to Diablo than Zelda. It’s focused on combat, loot, and building up your character.
Re: Square Enix's Gorgeous HD-2D Zelda-Like 'The Adventures Of Elliot' Launches This June
@TheBoilerman Octopath 1 (I haven’t played the others) had awful voice acting. I enjoyed it a lot more once I turned off the voices.

Now I’ll wait for a decent sale on the physical version.
Re: IO Interactive's '007 First Light' Hit By Two Month Delay
I’m totally fine with delays, especially as opposed to crunch or subpar games.

Re: Factorio - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Free Upgrade For Existing Owners
Playing the demo on Switch 2 right now. I can't tell whether the demo is optimized for Switch 2, but visually it looks really good.
Switch 2 is a great platform for PC games because of the large screen and 1080p resolution. I look forward to more PC ports.

Pipistrello is fantastic. The chunky pixel graphics look great on a Switch Lite.

Re: Video: 13 Exciting New Games Coming To Switch 1 & 2 In September 2025
@Tyaku Same. I hardly use my Switch 2. I know it will be worth it in the long run, but this feels like a very slow start for a new console.

Re: Developers Reportedly Still Struggling To Get Switch 2 Dev Kits
@sixrings I really don't think I should be called toxic for saying that I hardly play my Switch 2. I have lots to play on Switch, but I'm sort of regretting spending $700 (CAN) on Switch 2 when I hardly use it.
Re: Developers Reportedly Still Struggling To Get Switch 2 Dev Kits
Very disappointing. I’m starting to think I should have waited for a Switch 2 hardware revision. I hardly use mine at all.
Re: Review: Story Of Seasons: Grand Bazaar - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - The Series' Best Remake Yet
I played the original on DS and enjoyed it, but I had 2 criticisms:
1. The characters were bland. Their dialogue was basic, uninteresting, and repetitive.
2. The world was very small – the smallest of any HM/SoS game I've played.
Can anyone comment on whether they've addressed either of these?
Re: Review: Roadwarden (Switch) - A Fascinating And Quite Special Text-Based RPG
@r0mer0 Actually, if your calculations are correct, then the text size on Switch 2 should be around 1.65 mm because it's upscaled from 720p. But it will be slightly less crisp as a result of the upscaling.
