Nier Automata Switch 2 Edition? I already played it on PS4 but I would be glad to play it again.

I was about to pull the trigger, but I thought “oh, it’s on sale for a couple more weeks, so what’s the rush?”

Now I’ll wait for a decent sale on the physical version.

I’m totally fine with delays, especially as opposed to crunch or subpar games.

@Dee123 There's a lot of shovelware and derivative crap these days, but this game isn't that. It's an extremely polished, well-crafted game that the devs have put a lot of love and care into. If you haven't played the demo, I highly recommend doing so.

@HernandeZzz The difficulty is well-balanced, but there’s also a ton of adjustments you can make in the settings, e.g. cutting the damage you take by half.

Playing the demo on Switch 2 right now. I can't tell whether the demo is optimized for Switch 2, but visually it looks really good.

Switch 2 is a great platform for PC games because of the large screen and 1080p resolution. I look forward to more PC ports.

Pipistrello is fantastic. The chunky pixel graphics look great on a Switch Lite.

These are two of the greatest games ever made. I honestly can’t think of a game that needs remaking LESS than these.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of these visuals. Octopath 1 & 2 are amazing-looking games, but these DQ versions just look disjointed. The characters and monsters look OK, but the backgrounds just look like simple, generic 3D backgrounds. I'll be skipping these.

@PessitheMystic Agreed. Despite what some people are saying, I don’t think the lineup of games is strong so far. And I’m very disappointed that there have only been a handful of 1st and 3rd party Switch 1 games that have received Switch 2 graphical upgrades. I was expecting a lot more and that’s why I bought it.

I agree about the drab colours, but it’s not just that. Everything looks a little too clean and is lacking character. It looks like a diorama, not a living world.

@RadioHedgeFund Yep, and the mobile port is excellent.

My expectations for the 1st movie were low, and I was still disappointed. It didn’t make me laugh, or feel anything. I don’t have high hopes for the sequel, but I’d love to be proven wrong.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I find that these games are visually awkward. Unlike Octopath Traveler, where the environments also have a pixelated look, the contrast between the pixelated characters and hi-def environments is visually jarring. I find that the "HD-2D" style can be done well, but this isn't it.

@MS7000 Yeah, DQ Builders 2 is so good. It shows how much better a life sim/city builder like Animal Crossing could be. Hopefully this Pokemon game learns some lessons from it.

More Switch 2 upgrades for Switch 1 games!

@EarthboundBenjy Yeah, I noticed the issue with the play timer continuing to run in sleep mode. I wonder if a patch could retroactively adjust the times to be accurate.

@Zuljaras I don’t think you’re right about that. Resellability is a big factor for many collectors, including myself. As a collector, I sometimes sell games I’m no longer interested in to make space, and funds, to get new games. I know many collectors do the same.

@Tyaku Same. I hardly use my Switch 2. I know it will be worth it in the long run, but this feels like a very slow start for a new console.

@LazyDaisy It’s looking like PS4 is a good benchmark for what Switch 2 can do. Some games seem to run better on Switch 2 (Cyberpunk), some run worse (Hitman), but it mainly comes down to optimization.

I got about a third of the way through, but I found the backtracking too much. I don't like to use guides so there was a lot of unnecessary travelling, and eventually I couldn't do it anymore.

@Rentaro I ended up getting it on Steam for my laptop. It's on sale for around $3 USD.

@sixrings I really don't think I should be called toxic for saying that I hardly play my Switch 2. I have lots to play on Switch, but I'm sort of regretting spending $700 (CAN) on Switch 2 when I hardly use it.

Very disappointing. I’m starting to think I should have waited for a Switch 2 hardware revision. I hardly use mine at all.

I played the original on DS and enjoyed it, but I had 2 criticisms:

1. The characters were bland. Their dialogue was basic, uninteresting, and repetitive.

2. The world was very small – the smallest of any HM/SoS game I've played.

Can anyone comment on whether they've addressed either of these?

@r0mer0 Actually, if your calculations are correct, then the text size on Switch 2 should be around 1.65 mm because it's upscaled from 720p. But it will be slightly less crisp as a result of the upscaling.

Text size is my main concern, so I may just get this for my Macbook instead.

@sevex I agree 100%. I played Elden Ring on PS4 and it was far from perfect but I had a blast. I’ll happily play it on Switch 2.

Great news. Been wanting to play this for years.

I recommend playing this on a Switch Lite if you have one. The dpad helps, and all the games look great on the small screen.

This was my most anticipated game of the year, and I haven't been disappointed. I'm 12 games in (going in order) and having a blast. Highlights so far are Bug Hunter, Attactics, and Avianos.

Really hoping for UFO 50!!!

Played the demo and enjoyed it. It feels more like Ys: Oath in Felghana or even Diablo than Zelda.

Played about an hour of the demo so far. I'm enjoying it. It's Octopath meets Diablo.

Great interview! I had to skim through it to avoid spoilers because I’m only on Cold Steel IV.

Hard to believe they don’t have a Switch 2 dev kit. What is Nintendo thinking? If they want to keep selling Switch 2 consoles, they need a bigger library. They’re a limit to how many people will buy one for just a handful of games.

I, for one, am good with ports! I want everything on Switch 2.

@brakeman90 Yeah, I played it on PS4 and it’s easily in my top five games of the last decade. I’d love to have a handheld version if they can make it run well.

Ryza 1 was great, but I didn’t love the second. Haven’t played the third but I would consider it if it’s available separately.

The original DS game was fun but flawed. In particular, the characters were bland and the world map was tiny. I wonder whether either of those has been improved.

The Wonderful Life remake was definitely an improvement on the original, but still a dated, flawed game. So I’m wondering whether this remake can really elevate the original.

I guess we need a Japanese Nintendo account to get the DLC for this?

Two major issues, as far as I’m concerned:

1. Screen refresh rate issue
2. Lack of games and graphics patches for Switch 1 games

@GrailUK Did you watch their video on Switch 2? They were gushing about its energy efficiency. They were practically giddy with excitement at its low power usage.

Actually the biggest improvement would be to run in 1080p in handheld. Most likely they’ll add that.

The Canadian store Videogamesplus.ca has copies of the LRG version in stock. That’s where I got mine.

I’m really hoping for a steady stream of Switch 2 updates for Switch 1 indie games. Every Switch game could at least use a bump to 1080p in handheld for sharper image quality.

I just replayed 3 (Special) and found it to be fantastic.

Haven’t played Guardians of Azuma, but frankly, I’m not sure that it’s what I’m looking for in a RF game. Visually, it looks to me like a bland BotW clone.

DF did a great job on this, as usual. No one else does the kind of in-depth technical analysis they do.

I also realized that S2 is missing a feature that 3DS had for DS games – the ability to run S1 games at native res in a smaller window. (Maybe this is what you meant by integer scaling?)
