Re: Poll: Which Was Your First 'Final Fantasy'?

Doctor-Moo

I remember the first time I saw a preview of FF in Nintendo Power magazine in 1990. It was a pretty big deal at the time. The only other JRPG I had played at that point was Dragon Warrior. When FF came out, it definitely lived up to the hype.

Re: Poll: When Will You Be Watching The Super Mario Bros. Movie?

Doctor-Moo

My answer, generated by Google Bard:

I'm not really excited about the upcoming Super Mario movie. I've been a fan of the video games since I was a kid, and I've always been disappointed by the previous attempts to bring Mario to the big screen. I'm not sure why, but I just don't think it's going to be very good.

I'm not a fan of the casting choices. Chris Pratt as Mario? Really? I don't think he has the right voice or personality for the role. And Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach? I don't know, she just doesn't seem right to me.

The trailer didn't really do anything to change my mind. It just looked like a generic, unfunny, live-action comedy. I'm not sure what the filmmakers were going for, but it didn't look like they were trying to make a good Super Mario movie.

I'm sure some people will enjoy the movie, but I'm not one of them. I'm going to pass.

I know I'm not alone in my opinion. There are a lot of other people who are also not excited about the movie. I think it's going to be a major disappointment.

If you're a fan of Super Mario, I would recommend saving your money and not seeing the movie. It's not going to be worth it.

@Wexter "Sometimes producers just don't care no matter how much QA is done they have to fill their release calendar."

This is one of the major problems with the games industry right now. Release dates are announced too early, and devs are afraid to delay because it's bad press, so they push games out in unfinished states and plan to fix everything with patches.

This means that in 15-20 years, when online support for these games disappears, the cartridges/discs will be nearly useless because they'll contain unfinished versions of the games.

Re: Weird And Wonderful Zelda-Like 'Eastward' DLC Listing Spotted

Doctor-Moo

I absolutely loved Eastward. The visual design and music were the highlights, but I was really drawn into the story too. I thought the dialogue was fantastic (especially compared to the game I'm currently making my way through, Octopath Traveler).

I can see why some people thought the dialogue was too long-winded. There are certainly points where it could have been more concise. But to me, that was one minor negative of an otherwise stellar game. It's a 9/10 for me.

Re: Mini Review: Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection - A Great But Gouging, Exploitative Package

Doctor-Moo

Great review. It's always helpful to give readers some context – in this case, the fact that there are multiple, confusing variations of the same compilation. I would have been interested in a physical release of this more "complete" version, but when factoring in shipping, the SLG release was too much for me. Currently the only version available to order from SLG is $110 USD plus shipping.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Prefer 'Super Mario Odyssey 2' Or A Totally New 3D Mario?

Doctor-Moo

I'm not a fan of Cappy, and here's why: Whenever you need to use Cappy, there's always a specific enemy you're supposed to become, so you can use their specific power. The mechanic is used in a completely linear way: Here's a puzzle, and here's the solution. I much prefer open-ended mechanics, where the game give you options and you choose your own approach. So Odyssey was not my favourite. I much prefer 3D World.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?

Doctor-Moo

@FishyS Just Dance is a great choice. It’s not a “good game” by any measure. The feedback it gives based on your dancing seems arbitrary at times. And it constantly want to “reward” you with pointless cosmetics. Add to that the fact that the base version has a very short song list, so you really need the subscription service to get much out of it. But damn, it’s a blast to play, especially with kids.

Re: Anniversary: Dragon Quest V Is 30 Years Old Today

Doctor-Moo

I played it on DS and loved it. I married Debora, which is 100% worth it – she's hilarious. I sold my copy last year for $300 because I couldn't justify keeping it at that price, but I might get the mobile port at some point if I feel like playing it again. As others have said, the DS/mobile version would be great on Switch.
