Re: Yakuza 0 Comparison Video May Give Switch 2 The Edge Over PS4

Dm9982

@TenEighty I just wanna point out that Switch does not in fact use tech from 12 years ago.

The Nivida Tegra T239 is a bespoke chipset made specifically for Switch 2, and its Ampere architecture is based on the RTX 30 series which released in 2020.

A lot of people are seriously under estimating the Switch 2 and its capabilities. Sure raw power wise it’s been likened to a PS4/Pro. However the relatively newer tech that the T239 boasts is LEAGUES ahead of the PS4/Pro chipset.

One telling thing to look at is Star Wars Outlaws. A game that is built around Ray Tracing. And without dedicated hardware to handle the Ray tracing then the game runs extremely poorly (See Steam Deck) Ray Tracing cannot be disabled on that game without altering the config file; and when you do the game will run, but will look horrendous. (again, see steam deck).

The T239 has dedicated hardware to handle Ray Tracing, thanks to its RTX 30 roots, and is the reason why SWO looks and performs much better on S2 than SD or even possibly Ally/Legion.

Nintendo didn’t just cram an old tech chipset in there like they did with Tegra X1 and the Switch. They went full bore on a much better and higher end chip this time around. It truly should have no problems handling anything from this current gen, minus maybe MH Wilds (but that’s due to that game having optimization issues more than anything, and mainly on PC)

Re: Video: Check Out New Direct-Feed Gameplay Of Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2

Dm9982

@Dhaladog Not from what I’ve seen. Aside from the obvious portable ability to play whenever/where ever. Though it’s possible CDPR could sneak in some Nintendo goodies/easter eggs for this version. Bethesda did it with Skyrim, so it’s possible.

Personally I own CP2077 on Xbox, and Steam Deck, but I’m still getting this version for two reasons…. 1.) CDPRs commitment to games and gamers. They worked their rears off rectifying the horrible CP launch and made it right, and the full game on cart shows that commitment. 2.) It’s an amazing game that I have yet to fully experience even tho I own it on 2 other platforms. Same happened with Witcher 3 and the Switch version was the only one I completed 100%.

Anyone that hasn’t played this and is interested should def get it on Switch 2, and those that have it on other platforms but are interested because it’s CP, it’s portable, etc should also get it on the merit that it’s one of a handful of games fully on cart and should support CDPRs decision there.

Re: Video: 10 GameCube Games We Want On Switch 2's Online Expansion Pack

Dm9982

After playing PSO on the deck a bit, can confirm, we need a legit portable version of that master piece of a game!

Surprised MGS: Twin Snakes didn’t make the list! That along with RE4 and PSO were some of the best third party titles to grace the system.

Also, why no Eternal Darkness?! Da crap is that missing for?!

Re: Xbox's Latest Multiplatform Release Has Been Announced

Dm9982

As a fan of both Xbox and Nintendo, I’ve been saying it since they went buddy-buddy, MS, for the love of god, start tossing Fable, Fallout, Oblivion, Pillars 2, and Avowed on Switch(2). You guys will PRINT money.

Sure those games run good-ok on Deck, but bespoke versions for Switch 2 would sell like hotcakes.

Horizon would also do well on Switch as the system has historically had a hole in the racing genre. Tokyo Xtreme Racer proved on Steam Deck that gamers enjoy a handheld racing experience.

Re: Opinion: Switch 2 Finally Gives Star Wars Outlaws A Second Chance

Dm9982

@JohnnyMind yeah the first three that came to mind as great Ubi titles were Lost Crown and Child of Light and Rayman Legends. Also heard good things about AC Valhalla, and while I have it, I haven’t had time to properly get into it. As well as Mario + Rabbids titles.

Overall tho decently solid titles like Fenix Rising, most AC games, Anno, Farcry, Splinter Cell, etc

Re: Opinion: Switch 2 Finally Gives Star Wars Outlaws A Second Chance

Dm9982

@JohnnyMind I tossed it on my Xbox wishlist at launch, and waited exactly 6 months before it dropped half price (60% actually)on the $100 version. Thats when I picked it up. Honestly, most Ubi games are worth a fair $40. Some of their titles are truly great, but I can’t really think of one in the past 5-10 years they wasn’t at least a 7/10, which to me is $20-40 value range depending on size and scope.

Re: Rumour: Ubisoft Might Already Be Teasing More Switch 2 Games

Dm9982

Wouldn’t mind seeing some performance / graphical upgrades for all their current games on Switch. Especially Fenix, and PoP, which run fine but could run/look better.

The newest AC reboot linage would be nice too. Tho I’m not sure I’d double/triple dip, as I haven’t even finished them on Xbox/Deck yet… dang backlog is a few miles long!

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Dm9982

@Ultimapunch just to chime in….. it’s been 13 years since Wii U launched, 14 since 3DS, and 19 years since Wii launched….. any games you’ve purchased on those systems are still available to redownload. So the 10 year part of your statement is putting it at the extremely unlikely low end….

Otherwise I concur with everything else. I’d be willing to bet you’ll still be able to download your wii digital purchases in 10 more years…..

And these key cards will operate in the same fashion. You just have a little plastic trinket that says you bought a digital game basically. I mean I don’t hate the idea. Do find it rather silly, but it’s Nintendos way of trying to make everyone happy as best they can.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Dm9982

@NeonPizza was a huge mega man fan so I remember well their box art!

Even more depressing to me was missing the smell of opening the cardboard boxes games. Was just an amazing smell…. Like a gamer version of the smell of soul food. The closest I’ve gotten to that in recent times was the limited print run of Binding of Isaac. Had never played the game despite owning it on 3DS….. but when I saw the manual that came with on the Switch physical release I knew I had to buy it.

I didn’t get much into PlayStation back then, was a Nintendo and Sega fan more so than anything, often owning the same game on both systems like Mortal Kombat 1-3, NBA Jam, etc… went Saturn/32x/Dreamcast route rather than Ps1-2…. Tho I didn’t own both briefly for Metal Gear, Resident Evil, and the prime reason for grabbing a ps2 was Guitar Hero. 🤣

The Sega boxes I loved for the art, and because they were so much like Blockbuster / rental store VHS boxes…..

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Dm9982

I’ll probably buy one for the novelty aspect of it more than anything, but honestly speaking I’ve moved over to primarily digital. I still buy certain physicals I want to collect or because it makes more sense (like being able to share a copy of Mario with my kiddos since they have their own Switches)….but mostly I buy digital anymore.

@Neonpizza Exactly. I really stopped buying physical when they stopped putting manuals in the boxes. When they went to plastic cases that was the first hit for me….. I miss the old cardboard boxes and their amazing art. When I worked at GameStop and saw just how easy it was to get plastic cases and print your own, usually better, box art…. That was the next major hit. And around that time is when manuals stopped being printed too. Around the 360/Ps3 era I saw the coming change and embraced it…. While it sucked to not be able to trade, it also made it so I didn’t REGRET my trades, as I so often have….

Now my Switch library is about 70% digital, 30% physical. My Series X library is 99% digital, with only Elden Ring being physical. And my Steam Deck has been my go between godsend for Ps titles, pc only titles (The Sims Legacy/Tokyo Xtreme Racer), Xbox remoting, and some of the more amazingly optimized titles that run well on Deck.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2 Is "Best Way" To Play Handheld Says CD Projekt Red

Dm9982

Honestly speaking, I’m starting to believe S2 is actually a bit more capable than even a Legion Go / Ally….

After some quick research…. It seems the ryzen Z1 doesn’t do ray tracing all that well typically speaking it tanks performance…..

Whereas we know S2 has built in ray trace hardware, and furthermore is capable of running Star Wars Outlaws far greater than a Deck could possibly hope to - which that bar isn’t set high.

Curious…. Legion/Ally owners, have you played Star Wars Outlaws on your machine, and how does it run?

Re: GameStop Apparently Investigating New York Store Over Sus Switch 2 Bundle Sales

Dm9982

My store handed out printed sheets that each counted as one of the allotted units.

The sheet had the sku listed (in my case) for MKW S2, plus any accessories and games available to pre-order.

It also had bundles listed with skus to each part to make it easier for the cashier to build the bundle at the register. They weren’t forced on us by any means, and weren’t pre-bundled (like they do online). I chose one of the bundles just to make it easier than saying I wanted a case and a memory card. Plus choosing the bundle got you a free screen protector, so that was a win.

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Finds Success In Switch 2 Lottery

Dm9982

As someone who’s worked with Nintendo reps in the past, not surprising. Working for Nintendo has its perks, but getting a day one launch system is not one of them! Awesome exclusive apparel though…. Oh yeah. They get some AWESOME jackets.

And I’m sure once demand has died down they’d get the option to purchase direct.

Heck even working for GameStop, getting day one systems was not a thing. You had to wait for everyone else to pre-order, then at the end of the day if there was stock leftover, you could clock out and pre-order as a customer. Seems to still be the case as I’d talked to a couple workers there yesterday and most of them had pre-ordered through Walmart or Best Buy. Local shop had 22 systems, 9 of which were regular models, rest were MKW models. I was one of the lucky handful, though truth be told it was odd seeing only like 10 people in line. Wii U launch the line wrapped around the store. Just less people pre-ordering in person now days I guess! 🤷

Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)

Dm9982

@Scarmucci Yeah I wondered if there was a glitch.

Everyone should keep checking daily tho, because there will be cancellations / glitched orders that get fixed so some pre-order stock will likely reappear. Also places like Walmart, Best Buy, GS, and Sam’s Club LOVE to do second wave bundle pre-orders where they toss in a bunch of accessories/games to kick the price up. It’s how I snagged my launch S1. So everyone should keep an eye out for those.

And yeah GS was 1 per customer for ANYTHING S2 related, including games and amiibo.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)

Dm9982

@Scarmucci Yeah the GS’s around here are only half the presence they once were (Springfield, IL). I use to work at the one nearest me back in 2013, and back then there were 4 stores within a 10 mile radius. Now there’s only 2 and I’m surprised (and thankful!) they’re still standing

Also insane your Walmart is still showing availability! Wally, BB, and Target all sold out in minutes for me.

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

Dm9982

SD Fan here, but not underestimating the Switch 2. Star Wars Outlaws says it all really. That game does not run on SD, yet they’ve got it running and looking nice on Switch 2.

There’s a handful of next gen games that have issues on Deck, and if we see those on Switch 2 then everyone should understand just how much extra tech the S2 has over the SD.

Star Wars Outlaws, Starfield, MH Wilds, and Wu Kong are the main titles in question that do not run on SD or require an obscene amount of tinkering to get running at all

One of those titles is Switch 2 bound. More over the main reason it doesn’t run on SD is because the entire game was modeled around ray tracing, and the only way to disable it is through the config file. Once you do that, the game will run, but look incredibly janky. The fact that S2 has built in RT support - something PS4, XB1, and SD just do not have - should be enough to convince people of just how much more powerful/capable the S2 truly is.

Re: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma Switch 2 Cart Will Apparently Also Work On Switch 1

Dm9982

While this seems confusing at first, this is the way it should be. Microsoft was absolutely brilliant for the Smart Delivery system, and Nintendo and other third parties should mimic that set up in the future.

On an unrelated note, since the cost of games is seemingly rising again, can we bring back color manuals as a standard inside physical editions? Honestly speaking, not having manuals at all is a prime reason why I’ve gone mainly digital. I miss those days….

Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2

Dm9982

@Discostew Yeah, which is why I was shocked to see it announced on Switch 2. Honestly had not expected any form of RT support on Switch 2 honestly. Which gives hope to its capability in running other titles which are harder to run on Ally/Legion/Deck.

Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2

Dm9982

@Vectrex that that it runs well on Steam Deck, and Switch 2 is on par power wise with better built in technology…. Yeah I have no doubts about CDPR’s ability to get 2077 running nicely on Switch 2 truthfully.

Witcher 3, while not as pretty as other versions, ran very nicely on Switch. It was the only version I 100%’d everything including DLCs.

The Switch 2 is on par with a PS4/Pro in terms of raw power, but it has much more advanced feature sets like baked in DLSS, that the PS4 never had access to.

Actually I’m much more surprised at Star Wars Outlaws running on Switch 2. That game has trouble on the Deck, and if they can get that running on Switch 2 then CP2077 is a cakewalk comparatively.

I’m curious if we’ll see Starfield, Avowed, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, or MH Wilds on Switch 2…. Those are all notorious for having issues running on Deck.

I do worry about the battery as well. Something that comes up with my Deck…. Most games I can manage a decent 2-3 hours. Some however, even my OLED model can only muster an hour and a half max

Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2

Dm9982

Considering CDPR commitment Witcher 3 and Switch, I have no worries about this whatsoever.

@kalosn I’m playing MH Wilds on Series X currently and it’s the first next game game I’ve seen run spotty on Series X. Doesn’t matter if I choose Quality, Balanced or Performance, there are some major dips here and there. Crazy to me considering the pedigree at Capcom and having played most MH Titles and a ton of Capcom games through the years…. This has got to be the first I’ve played of theirs with such jarring jumps in frame rates…. Shame. Decent MH title, I’d give it a solid 8/10 for an MH game minus the performance issues…. And a 7/10 when stacked against ALL games….

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?

Dm9982

MS has proven that you can profit from both Subscription access to games as well as buyable copies between Game Pass and their store.

I’m a GPU subscriber and still buy many of the games I know I want to play / own. For me personally GPU is a way to test games first, or have access to games that are lower priority that I couldn’t afford alongside the titles I budget to purchase. It also gives me a “double dip” access where I can choose to buy a game on Steam or Switch but still have the Xbox version as well - like Avowed and Pentiment, bought the Steam and Switch versions respectively but still have access to GPU versions.

If Nintendo chose to release WW HD and TP HD versions it wouldn’t hurt their NSO+ subs in the least, and most of us would buy them. Having the NSO+ versions is just a boon for NSO+ subscribers, and even more so for the few that haven’t played them to test them out first, or for the ones that don’t care which version they get as long as they have it / prefer the originals.

Edit - what would be awesome, but unlikely, is if they released the HD versions and made it cross save between NSO+ versions. That way if you loose your HD cart, don’t have enough space to install, or one of your family members is playing the HD copy, you’d still be able to continue your adventure on the NSO+ version….

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Includes Support For Variable Refresh Rate Technology

Dm9982

@Warlenos Thanks for the correction! I couldn’t find any more data than what Google provided me, and I don’t personally own a Legion Go (tho I debated it!)

@skywake Yeah it wasn’t honestly about me thinking Nintendo was cutting costs or being cheap, rather than curious about what type of LCD they were going to incorporate into the system. Prior to yesterday’s reveal we knew nothing of the LCD or Dock capabilities.

Considering VRR has been around for awhile on the pc front, but only just recently (last 3-5 years) been adopted on consoles, it was certainly a welcome surprise during the reveal. I’ve heard such good things about it in the Ally reddit, and personally have not experienced it (haven’t been a pc gamer in 15 years until I got a SD last Sept).

Hell even TVs that support VRR haven’t been around THAT long. I’m rocking a Samsung KS8500 from 2017ish that doesn’t support it. I’m sure a lot of console gamers haven’t upgraded screens as 4k/60fps is enough for most.

Heck on Series X I’ve only got one game I know for sure supports it; Mh Wilds, and I can’t even take advantage of it.

So it’s less about biases I would say, more about knowledge of what it is and it’s availability to the common console gamer.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Includes Support For Variable Refresh Rate Technology

Dm9982

@skywake I’ll give ya two good reasons why people didn’t think of VRR or think Nintendo would embrace it. Firstly, Steam Deck and Legion Go don’t use it, but Asus Ally does. So as far as handhelds go it’s not widely adopted. And only on a $800 handheld

Secondly, and more importantly, I don’t think anyone expected a 120hz lcd on Switch 2, which is nearly required to make a more seamless experience. Which is why Legion (60hz) and SD OLED (90hz) don’t make use of VRR.
