@Ganon821 Lol, I say a similar thing…,”the internet has blessed and cursed our gaming at the same time… now we can player with players across the world…: and at the same time companies say it’s ok we can patch that later….. “
I miss the days when games shipped complete of content and without a host of major bugs…. Updates should improve and add to a great and finished game, not complete an unfinished game….
Interesting trivia tidbit for ya….. on PC it use to be common practice for devs to release an unfinished game, alongside a day one patch as way to deter early piracy and prevent leaks, more or less being unable to play the game unless you got it officially and patched….. I feel like console devs have taken that example and turned it into their own thing with saying “eh we can just fix all that later…”
Way too many games get released anymore in states they absolutely should not be in…,. Apparently Contra has fallen prey too…. Cyberpunk was another major example. Never figured CDPR or any major dev (besides Bethesda) would release super buggy games. I was sadly wrong.,.,
@MARl0 I’m not gaslighting anything. I’m not trying to make you question your beliefs or reality. I’ve been playing games since 1985, and while the NES was indeed outputting at 60fps, there was a fair bit of the game and other games that “just couldn’t keep up”. See disappearing enemies in Contra or Mega Man for examples.
To say everyone and every game needs 60fps is absurd to say the least. Yeah there’s a fair bit of players that enjoy 60fps modes, and there’s an equal bit that enjoy quality modes.
If you’re getting hit by an enemy because either they or the bullet suddenly disappeared and then hit you, that isn’t a 60 vs 30 issue, that’s a frame loss issue, far far FAR worse of an issue than frame rate. Frame drops and losses occur when a game isn’t stabilized to run at whatever cap the developer sets or doesn’t set.
Input lag is another absolute game killer, if the game doesn’t recognize your reaction fast enough to obey the command, you end up dead. Another major issue that has nothing to do with 60fps or 30fps.
And I should have rephrased my statement about fighting games….. 60fps only is truly necessary on games vs other players so everyone is on equal footing, like fighting games or like in the case when Fortnite was cross console for Switch and switch owners were stuck @ 30fps getting killed by 60+fps players.
For the last 20ish years a vast majority of games have not been 60fps on consoles. The only players that got use to 60fps and above were pc players.
60fps is nice, but a good game it does not make.
It doesn’t matter if your game is running at 240fps, if you’re dropping frames and have input lag, you’re gonna have a bad time.
This is why people love the Asus Ally, it’s got VRR so you don’t notice those frame dips. Hopefully Nintendo adopted it for the successor.
I haven’t dipped into Sunbreak yet, but I will say Rise I felt was more difficult than MHGU. Adept and Valor are like easy mode. Plus so many Hunter arts with massive iframes, like SnS Roundslash, LS Critical Juncture (which has the absolute highest single attack damage on top of being invulnerable), and Absolute Evasion.
@Sarge126 Yeah I had no idea that Advance Wars was still not updated until this article. Though I’d be willing to bet that’s more under Nintendos banner than WF. I’m willing to bet their contract expired during the delay or shortly after launch.
When a studio like WF gets a contract to port a game, they’re obligated to provide patches/support up to a certain point, much like Sabre and NetherRealms with MK1 on Switch and how it’s stil ongoing. Once that contract is up they need to renew to continue support for the title, or the parent company takes over the support at that time. I’m willing to bet WF wanted too much to continue support, or Nintendo just didn’t see enough sales to warrant continued support, or flat out thought they could save money and handle the job themselves then just ditched it.
I say that as a looooong time Nintendo fan…. Willing to bet the issue lies within their wheelhouse.
@MARl0 That’s actually funny. Only fighting games need 60fps, every other genre is perfectly fine at 30fps. Case in point Doom 2016 on Switch. But from what I’ve gathered via comments and the article, it isn’t even hitting 30fps, which depending on how low it’s hitting can still be perfectly playable (aka Pokémon Scarlet/Violet or Witcher 3).
I’m truly guessing this is a Unity engine issue and Wayforward didn’t optimize for Switch, which can cause issues on other engines as well, but it’s especially bad for Unity games.
Was about to start a new run on SDV last night but opted to wait for 1.6 and start Graveyard Keeper instead…. Seriously can’t wait to see what all I’ve missed since 1.3 lol
@AlexanderDaniels @MirrorFate2 Ah man that sucks! Wondering how much of that control is WayForward and how much is Nintendo…. I know Intelligent Systems was too busy with FE stuff to do the Reboot of AW. Wasn’t sure which studio got handed the job….. I still think Wayforward is a great dev as noted by stuff like Shantae and Mummy Demastered (which shows ya they shoulda been able to do Contra flawlessly!)
@Greatluigi You would be correct sir! Same company.
As I said in a previous post, I’m truly surprised Unity has last this long as a development engine….. so many Unity games have sooooo many issues. Maybe they run perfect on PC, I dunno, but they def have issues on all consoles. Whenever I hear a game is Unity based I cringe anymore as i know it’ll have lag, frame issues, etc - basically everything listed under Contra…. Same story across multiple Unity titles
@AlexanderDaniels I didn’t pick up reboot, still be busy with Wargroove 1&2 and Into the Breach….. is it still having some issues this far out from launch?!
@msvt That’s personal preference. It can be hard to dip back into “Old World Style” like 3/4/GU after playing World or Rise. Personally for me, I couldn’t get into World…. Felt too far removed from the series, really hand holdy, and most importantly had frame rate issues on PS4 Pro that caused a lot of motion sickness for me. Haven’t tried it on Series X yet, so the motion sick thing might be gone for me.
If you really enjoyed MHG on 3DS though, then I think the first stop should be MHGU. There’s just a ridiculous amount of content over MHG…. And I still believe it’s the best MH has been so far. Rise/Sunbreak deserves a play too, more so over World in my eyes.
The one absolutely huge design gripe I had with World was its semi live service approach where events rotated out like a season would….. I like MHGU and Rise as all my content is there ready for me to play when I can/want…. I don’t have to wait for the next rotation.
I knew WayForward wouldn’t just let the game rot as is. They’re way too good of a company, and know a large chunk of their fan base lies on Switch:
That said, I’m wondering if this was a push from Konami to release it sooner than it should have, or just Unity being hell to work with. Genuinely curious as I feel most of WayForwards past work wasn’t down to the level, and I’m not sure if their other games ran on Unity or not….
@msvt No, only Rise allows you to swap load outs mid hunt.
I just meant practice with two different weapons and get good at both, like DB and Bow or LBG.
I mained Bow through MH3U, in 4 I mained Glaive with Bow as my secondary. When MHG rolled around I decided to start working on using all weapons and become a weapon master, between MHG and MHGU I got 1k kills on Glaive and Bow, 500 on LS, 500+ on HBG, 200+ on LBG, DB and SnS, 100+ on the rest.
It can seriously pay to learn all the weapons, makes arena quests with their set load outs MUCH easier to deal with.
@msvt Bow is a blast, the ranged equivalent of DB. Not as fast, but mobile, and plenty of status/elemental options. Adept Bow until you get use to it, then Valor Bow is king amongst the styles for damage. I always recommend anybody playing the series to pick a melee and a ranged weapon, since some match ups are just much rougher as melee than ranged (Gravios/Basarios/Garuga/Agnakator are some, so easy as ranged). Learning both is a great idea!
@Rayquaza2510 While I never played Portable 3rd, I def concur. I’ve liked all MHs since MHFU, except for World…. Just couldn’t get into it. Rise, while fun, and the territory battles are just amazing as well as using monsters to fight other monsters…. Just didn’t live up to Generations Ultimate for me. Granted I haven’t given Sunbreak a go, but I can’t imagine it dethroning GU for me.
@Rayquaza2510 I concur, but I’m biased, I think MHGU deserves the top spot for sheer content and invation with the Arts, Styles and Prowler mode. I wouldn’t argue MH3U for trying something new with Underwater battles (even tho it borked my Bow to near unplayable levels while being underwater), or MH4U because of Dalamadur, the GQ System and adding Glaive and Charged Blade (I think CB got added in 4 right?)…. Even tho I detested the Apex / Drive mechanics, and Worlds Greatest final village quest with Apex Diablos, Apex Seregios and Savage Jho could go eat dirt….. 35 deaths later I finally beat that pos quest….
@Anachronism I’m biased towards Brachy weapons, love the Blue on them, even if half the time there’s something far better to use. Brachy and Narga weapons are ones I always make every playthru, and ever since MH3U I always make Narga armor even tho I don’t need the evade boosts anymore, just like the look.
@Anachronism 3U was the first time I truly cut my teeth into the series. Played MHFU on Psp but didn’t really get into it. I concur, nothing like that initial feeling on 3U. Been meaning to go back through for another go:
The closest I’ve gotten to that initial feeling was with MHRise, but it was a bit shallow after MHGU. Still, those territory battles are a sight to behold…. Can sit back and eat pop corn while the monsties knock each other around, it’s so awesome.
Also, 3U Kelbi Bow go brrrrr boom! 😂 Loved that fun!
@msvt Oh, totally forgot but you can transfer your save from MHG to MHGU and continue your progress. Now I’m not 100% positive that you’ll be able to transfer after April 8th…. But I think the transfer process bypasses 3DS server function. Pretty sure it’s either a temp cloud save download or its direct system using your wifi.
@msvt I’ve got a combined 1250 hours between 3DS and Switch MHG/U. 550 on 3DS and 700 on MHGU. They’re both very good, but MHGU def wins out. G rank, a metric ton more quests, Ah Tal Ka armor being the best “dyi” armor the series has created that isn’t a mixed set, more arts and more styles - specifically Valor style is amazing!
Def would recommend the upgrade, well well WELL worth it. Especially since you can find MHGU as low as $10 on sale. The graphic upgrade and more stable frames is a nifty bonus as well.
The only gripe I had making the leap from
MHG To MHGU…. Only applies if you’re a bow main like I was…. GU’s base game (MHXX on 3DS) was modeled after 3DS controls, so you have to fiddle with the control scheme in the menu in order to get bow to play smooth.
Oh and I may have forgotten about Prowler mode. Not sure if that was in MHG on 3DS…. Can’t remember. But if not, it’s an awesome feature in MHGU; makes gathering a breeze (no more broken nets/pickaxes), and they’re extremely fun to play as well.
@Anti-Matter Yeah MHS2 is full on cart (minus updates, and I highly suggest you get the updates, more monsties and such IIRC) and MHS2 is LEAGUES better than MHS1. The only gripe I had with MHS2 was it removes the ability to elementally customize your monsters…. Otherwise it’s much better.
I’m gonna hold out hope that Wayforward can make this a better experience via some patching. I’ll pick it up then if they bring it up to par.
I get that Unity is cheap to develop with, but I’m truly surprised it’s lasted this long as a creation engine…… it’s like Java was…. Nifty to work with, and could do some awesome things, but a taxing engine that was hard to optimize to make it not bog down every app/website that used it. Every time I see a Unity game release I wait for the reviews, and they always have issues on Switch at launch, and 80-90% of the time have issues across all systems. Smh
Generations is my favorite, just an AMAZING amount of content, and Adept/Valor/Aerial styles plus Hunter Arts…. Just perfection! Rise would likely be in second place, the rampage stuff holds it up from being top place, plus Base Rise was sorely lacking compared to GU.
3U would be in third for me, with 4U being in, oddly enough 4th place. The sub species in 3U, like Lucent Narga place it higher. And I also am taking into account what part I hated most in each game…. Apex/Drive system in 4U was faaaaar more annoying to me than underwater in 3U.
But then again, 4U gave us Glaive….. but Elements and Blast were better/more fun in 3U. Tough call, lol
@sanderev So you have your opinion and I have mine. My “walls of text”, which is an insult by the way, and I never insulted you….. were carefully typed and thought out, and designed to give you tips about the game and joke around. Because this whole thing is silly.
You’ve taken this as a personal crusade like you work for or are paid for by Pegi. I merely think it’s a bs rating @ 18+ when in the US it’s 12. An 18+ can impact sales, especially for a small developer who was just trying to make a fun game for everyone.
In truthfulness I believe the ESRB and Pegi are more or less bs anyways, and it should be the parents job to protect their children, be more involved with what they do, and pay attention to what they watch and play. But hey, what do I know, I’m just a parent of 2 little gamer girls and I’ve been gaming since 1985….
But anyways, enjoy the game man, and have a good day!
Also, you do realize that “whataboutisms” as you call them, are the exact way a legal defense works when making points and arguments? So while you may believe they add nothing, they actually do.
@sanderev Well in America we classify gambling as wagering a bet, simulated or real, in the chance that you win your wager back and then some, or you loose entirely.
There’s no wager to be had here. And it’ll he interesting to see if the ruling on this game gets flipped.
Do you consider a game of Old Maid or Go Fish gambling as well? Or video games I’ve mentioned? Because if you don’t then you’re invalidating your own logic.
Also I wasn’t trying to argue, I was giving you pointers on how to do better at the game, since again, it’s a strategy rpg at the core.
Here’s a vid link of late game play. Tell me again how this in particular looks like gambling
Due take notice of the particular end result score….. 3.061e11…..
@sanderev You have a lot of control over the outcome of the rounds in Balatro, more so than you think. The game is an rpg rogue lite with an economy. Your first two rounds should be finished without purchasing anything from the shop. Before facing the first boss, buy one joker with a multiplier. On the next set, buy one more joker before that boss, either a chip booster or another multiplier. The goal is to save your money as much as possible, trying to maintain $25 at all times to have $5 interest (this by default is the opposite of gambling, lol)
Get through all the decks, then start going through them again at red stakes difficulty and so on. You will 100% see that this is a game of strategy, and the only rng that’s against you is the shop draws, which you can brute force through by saving your money.
This is required on the higher difficulties, and isn’t taught to you until you reach Black Deck. That deck is the first time you truly cut your teeth into managing your interest and continue building.
I should also say, the first three rounds are always 300, 450, 600. And there’s simple math behind beating them easily without spending much. First match you can win 100% of the time by using a Straight A-10 or K-9. High card flushes can accomplish this as well. Round 2 requires one straight and one flush/full house or a couple high rank 2 pairs. The boss will require luck of 2 high straights or just get a multi joker.
You can quickly see how this is no different than managing Gold in Octopath to gear your character for a battle. And just like a standard rpg, it’s fully necessary to learn which gear works and how.
Lastly, DO NOT focus on Straights, Straight Flushes, Flushes, or any other 5 card hand during your first attempts….. if you do you’ll be relying a LOT more on luck than you should be. Focus on one of the lower hands - High Card, Pair, Two Pair, 3 of a kind. Pick one and exclusively level it. You’ll quickly make your way to finishing white stakes.
@fenlix See I feel as though you’re trying to call me out as an American as if I don’t care about protecting children and that’s not the case. I’ve even said I understand the reasoning behind gambling being a higher rated rank on the age scale the ESRB/Pegi use. I actually have a brother that has lost a lot due to gambling addiction.
What I argue is that this game doesn’t deserve such a ranking, and it doesn’t get such in other countries because IT IS NOT A GAMBLING SIMULATOR OF ANY KIND. Got that?
There are FAAAAAAR worse offenders out there than this….. this is not going to lead to gambling addiction of any kind. It’ll lead to better math skills if anything. LocalThunk even posted that they were going toss the game back up in EU under an 18 rating just so players could be able to purchase while they contested the Pegi ruling. Which if you remember correctly was originally a lower value….
Lastly, the “guilty until proven innocent” tripe of Pegi isn’t a thing I’d be bragging about. Under their ruling a man would be shot before being able to prove his innocence. That’s a third world approach to a problem.
@sanderev Yeah I’m not arguing that by any means. My brother has a gambling addiction, a massive one. Lost a house and boat to sharks.
That said, I couldnt lump Balatro in the same group that would lead to gambling addiction. Not by any means. As a massive Diablo 2 fan, I COULD lump that one in there tho! That game is literally a graphical version of a slot machine - just one more pull and I’ll hear the jingles!
But if I’m being completely honest, MOST games have some sort of hook that’s very similar to gambling. Pokémon and shiny hunting, Monster Hunter and Mantles/Jaspers, Diablo 2 and runes/uniques, Mario and collecting stars…..
@Grumblevolcano Nintendo disabled the gambling on the 3DS VC versions of Pokémon so they wouldn’t get slapped with a higher rating. Nintendo will likely just reuse those versions. 😁
To clarify, Nintendo disabled the slots and such. You can still trade poke dollars for poke coins to purchase the TMs and Pokémon at that shop.
@sanderev there’s truly no gambling, simulated or otherwise in this. It’s no different than Dead Cells, Rogue Legacy, Hades, etc…..
It’s a rogue deck builder. The only reason for the confusion is Poker hands being what judges the base score. This is literally Pokémon the trading card game, you get a hand to beat out a top score, turn and buy booster packs to strengthen your deck. Repeat till win or lose.
A simple switch of poker hands being monsters and the score being enemy health…. Which is why this whole rating thing is frickin ridiculous. As I talked to another NL poster before, PEGI follows the rule set of “guilty until proven innocent” the opposite of America’s ESRB. This allows PEGI (or anyone that wants to SWAT a game) to take down the game and force it to receive a new rating or stall sales until the true rating can be established.
The devs posted immediately following the removal of the game and straight up said they were going to toss it back up as 18+ until the PEGI situation could be sorted
To any parents that are now afraid to get this game for your kids, don’t be. There truly is no actual gambling in it, and there’s no adult themes (no drugs, alcohol, nudity, violence or gore).
You start with a standard deck of cards trying to beat the “top score” of each round. At the end of each round you get cash to buy booster packs and jokers. This is no different than Pokémon TCG, MtG, Yu-gi-oh - and those cost REAL money IRL…
To all the EU adults that have been waiting, go go go go go! You won’t be disappointed!
This is one of those games that you can’t watch and hopefully grasp what type of game it is and how fun it is. There are some games that just don’t translate to trailer/video well unless you already know exactly what’s going on.
Much like Ghost Trick, Ace Attorney, or even Vampire Survivors…. It’s a game that you won’t appreciate until you play it.
I’m not a big fan of card games/deck builders. I’ve played my fair share of poker and spades with friends in real life, so I knew the hands going into it. What I didn’t know was just how addictive the draw is once you get going. Just like Hades, Gungeon, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, Vampire Survivors. etc there is a massive “omg I was so close, one more run!” Aspect. Before ya know it 4-5 hours have passed.
I implore anyone that’s remotely curious, and has $15 to spend, to try it before ya judge it. If ya don’t like it, then you’re out $15 max - there are worse ways to spend cash. If ya do like it, then you’ll understand why it’s mentioned as a GOTY contender.
Yeah it may not have flashy visuals like Elden Ring or Baldurs Gate 3, or an amazing score like Breath of the Wild, but the gameplay, like the rest, is just as fun and addictive. Like those, it’s one you can spend hundreds of hours on, and enjoy every second.
@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot No problem! I love exploring the indie scene for things. Sometimes you find games that beat out most triple A titles. Usually this isn’t the case with Pokémon-likes though, lol. Tough genre to beat. However there are some gems that do things a bit different and it makes them truly shine: Coromon and Monster Sanctuary are brilliant examples. Coromon especially if you enjoy shiny hunting.
@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot Nexomon isn’t bad, an event change of pace from Pokémon with enough similarities to allow ya to jump in.
I haven’t tried Temtem or Cassette Beasts (though I do own CB just haven’t gotten around to trying it)
I highly recommend Coromon if you don’t have that one! That and Monster Sanctuary are the best non-Pokémon but Pokémon-like games on the switch. Both extremely good.
@HeadPirate You’re welcome, and I will always thank a person for educating me and teaching me something new!
Yeah I worked at a GameStop for awhile, we enforced needing a parents permission to buy a mature game if the customer was under 18.
I can see both sides for Steam being less restrictive, freedom of speech and art. Though, being a parent, I can also appreciate having a more filtered approach with console eshops. I’m tech savvy though (grew up with computers in the 80s) and one of the first things I did with my daughters accounts was limit what they could look up on the Nintendo eshop…. No need to have to answer questions like “Dad what’s Waifu mean?” 😂😂
They already talk about twerking…. Thanks YouTube!🙄
@Matt_Barber I wondered thanks for the answer! I already picked this up at launch on Switch (NA region here)….. hopefully it doesn’t affect other regions, but yeah I’ve seen it happen before. NZ likes to throw flags at games and usually there’s fallout in multiple regions.
It truly sucks when it happens to a game like this, which is innocent and also amazing. It’s the indie equal to something like BotW getting flagged and taken down by pegi. True shame, though I get why it happened.
@HeadPirate Tis true, I rarely hear of this problem. I do feel bad for the devs and the customers that can’t get the game.
I’m wondering why this only effects digital storefronts like eshop, but seemingly not pc storefronts like Steam as I’ve seen a few comments saying people are just getting it on Steam instead?
Also, thanks for the informative replies man! Truly appreciate it!
@IsThis5or6 Or just the fact that kids now days are more tech savvy, have access to the internet, and can easily figure out how to disable restrictions and access far more than I was able to back as a kid…..
Granted, AOL 3.0 was a wild place on the chat rooms…..
@HeadPirate ouch…. That does suck. I get the reasoning and understand about preventing adult only games from running around without restriction….. but man that does suck.
I feel like a better alternative would be a developer has to submit final code for review, and PEGI should have a review department that goes fully through the game and coding to verify the rating the developer states. Only after review can the game be released. Any further patches/updates must be reviewed as well.
If it works that way already then being able to “swat” a games rating shouldn’t work….
Either way, I feel better protections are in order on both sides, for the developer and consumer.
@HeadPirate Oy…. That sounds like, in theory at least, you could “swat” a game by just reporting that a game has gambling or something in it….. sounds like guilty till proven innocent to me.
This is absurd. Sorry for the devs, publisher, and those that can’t buy this beauty of a game!
I’m not sure what their terms of gambling are, but I don’t find any gambling in this game. It’s no different than a card version of Diablo 2, or going to the local store and buying Magic the Gathering cards.
You earn money by beating a high score, in turn you spend money on buying jokers or booster packs to strengthen your deck so you can move on to the next score to beat….theres no wagering of money, or betting of any kind. So yeah the gambling aspect makes no sense to me…..
The only relation to gambling is they use poker hands as the basis…… smh
Knew this was going to get at least a 9! Truly a great game and addictive as any AAA I’ve ever played. It’s seriously addictive as BotW, Skyrim, Witcher, etc…. Hours pass and you don’t even realize.
@Crono1973 I get that, I do. Dealing Bethesda titles for years, yeah I’d rather have a non buggy mess, lol.
Unfortunately what will likely end up happening in the future is the companies banding together, and tossing a ton of legal and financial might at the situation to force the hand, likely shutting emulators down completely unless they’re official emulators: which Nintendo, Sony, Xbox, etc creating official emulators is best case scenario pipe dream.
It’s impossible to stop the dumping and sharing of roms. it’s just too easy to do… like spreading a virus or sprinkling glitter. However if the companies overturn emulators as being illegal it mostly bricks the reason for roms. Emulators are the bottleneck target of this crusade. The only other way to play roms would be a modified system, which they can’t stop that either. They can stop the sales of, but they can’t stop knowledge from spreading or people from opening their switches. Nintendo still wins because Switches are still bought.
I guarantee this is the path that is trying to be carved…. Not sure if it’ll succeed. Be interesting to watch. Like I said in an earlier post tho, be ware poking the bear….

Re: Contra: Operation Galuga "Full-Version Patch Update" Announced For Switch
Re: Stardew Valley Creator Teases Fruit Tree Change Coming To Version 1.6
Was about to start a new run on SDV last night but opted to wait for 1.6 and start Graveyard Keeper instead…. Seriously can’t wait to see what all I’ve missed since 1.3 lol
Re: Contra: Operation Galuga "Full-Version Patch Update" Announced For Switch
@AlexanderDaniels @MirrorFate2 Ah man that sucks! Wondering how much of that control is WayForward and how much is Nintendo…. I know Intelligent Systems was too busy with FE stuff to do the Reboot of AW. Wasn’t sure which studio got handed the job….. I still think Wayforward is a great dev as noted by stuff like Shantae and Mummy Demastered (which shows ya they shoulda been able to do Contra flawlessly!)
It’s gotta be an engine thing….
Re: Contra: Operation Galuga "Full-Version Patch Update" Announced For Switch
@Greatluigi You would be correct sir! Same company.
As I said in a previous post, I’m truly surprised Unity has last this long as a development engine….. so many Unity games have sooooo many issues. Maybe they run perfect on PC, I dunno, but they def have issues on all consoles. Whenever I hear a game is Unity based I cringe anymore as i know it’ll have lag, frame issues, etc - basically everything listed under Contra…. Same story across multiple Unity titles
Re: Contra: Operation Galuga "Full-Version Patch Update" Announced For Switch
@AlexanderDaniels I didn’t pick up reboot, still be busy with Wargroove 1&2 and Into the Breach….. is it still having some issues this far out from launch?!
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Contra: Operation Galuga "Full-Version Patch Update" Announced For Switch
I knew WayForward wouldn’t just let the game rot as is. They’re way too good of a company, and know a large chunk of their fan base lies on Switch:
That said, I’m wondering if this was a push from Konami to release it sooner than it should have, or just Unity being hell to work with. Genuinely curious as I feel most of WayForwards past work wasn’t down to the level, and I’m not sure if their other games ran on Unity or not….
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@msvt Np! If you do play Bow let me know and I’ll post the Switch settings that mimic the 3DS style.
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@msvt Oh, totally forgot but you can transfer your save from MHG to MHGU and continue your progress. Now I’m not 100% positive that you’ll be able to transfer after April 8th…. But I think the transfer process bypasses 3DS server function. Pretty sure it’s either a temp cloud save download or its direct system using your wifi.
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@Anti-Matter Yeah MHS2 is full on cart (minus updates, and I highly suggest you get the updates, more monsties and such IIRC) and MHS2 is LEAGUES better than MHS1. The only gripe I had with MHS2 was it removes the ability to elementally customize your monsters…. Otherwise it’s much better.
Re: Review: Contra: Operation Galuga (Switch) - Does The Series Proud, But Best Played Elsewhere
Smh
Re: Best Monster Hunter Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
And for the record yes, I’ve played real poker. A few variants of it. For fun and for cash. This ain’t the same.

Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
@Grumblevolcano I kept forgetting were talking about Euro versions. In America the ESRB maintained lower ratings when Nintendo disabled the gambling
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
@Grumblevolcano Nintendo disabled the gambling on the 3DS VC versions of Pokémon so they wouldn’t get slapped with a higher rating. Nintendo will likely just reuse those versions. 😁
To clarify, Nintendo disabled the slots and such. You can still trade poke dollars for poke coins to purchase the TMs and Pokémon at that shop.
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
@GravyThief 😂😂😂
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
@sanderev either way it’s silly and unwarranted.
And didn’t your mother ever teach you not to judge a book by its cover?
Seriously, play it before you condemn it to “a gambling game”. Cause it’s not.
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
@sanderev Bingo requires an entry fee to play with the chance that you win money in return….
There’s no entry fee in here - even tho it says “ante”…. your money doesn’t, I repeat DOES NOT, get depleted upon entering the next match.
True there is rng involved, but like I said, it’s a rogue. Do you consider Dead Cells a gambling game? Or Hades?
The rng and outcome can be MANIPULATED unlike gambling or Bingo….
In the case of this, ante is no more than a marker of what level you’re on.
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
@sanderev gambling requires a wager, there’s no wager dude….
Also see other countries ratings on it…. None of the rest have done this.
Read the addendum I added. This was likely a swat attempt or some idiot with the wrong idea about the game.
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
Re: Balatro Back On Switch eShop In Europe With New Age Rating
Eee….
Re: Balatro Surpasses 500,000 Sales In First 10 Days
Re: Crypt Of The NecroDancer Returns From The Dead Next Week With "Huge New DLC"
Time to start dancing for my life again…..
Re: Balatro Surpasses 500,000 Sales In First 10 Days
Those are rookie numbers, we gotta get those up!
Re: Darkest Dungeon II Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch
First one is on sale on the US eshop currently, $9.99 for standard or $15.99 for ancestral edition (all dlcs)
I went ahead and nabbed this to try it out. Seems very much like an RPG crossed with Eternal Darkness in tone/theme…. I’m down for that.
Re: Pokémon-Like Temtem Announces Final Major Updates And Removal Of Monetisation
Re: Pokémon-Like Temtem Announces Final Major Updates And Removal Of Monetisation
Oh and Monster Hunter Stories 2. Great game!
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
@Matt_Barber I wondered thanks for the answer! I already picked this up at launch on Switch (NA region here)….. hopefully it doesn’t affect other regions, but yeah I’ve seen it happen before. NZ likes to throw flags at games and usually there’s fallout in multiple regions.
It truly sucks when it happens to a game like this, which is innocent and also amazing. It’s the indie equal to something like BotW getting flagged and taken down by pegi. True shame, though I get why it happened.
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
@HeadPirate Tis true, I rarely hear of this problem. I do feel bad for the devs and the customers that can’t get the game.
I’m wondering why this only effects digital storefronts like eshop, but seemingly not pc storefronts like Steam as I’ve seen a few comments saying people are just getting it on Steam instead?
Also, thanks for the informative replies man! Truly appreciate it!
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
@IsThis5or6 Or just the fact that kids now days are more tech savvy, have access to the internet, and can easily figure out how to disable restrictions and access far more than I was able to back as a kid…..
Granted, AOL 3.0 was a wild place on the chat rooms…..
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
@HeadPirate ouch…. That does suck. I get the reasoning and understand about preventing adult only games from running around without restriction….. but man that does suck.
I feel like a better alternative would be a developer has to submit final code for review, and PEGI should have a review department that goes fully through the game and coding to verify the rating the developer states. Only after review can the game be released. Any further patches/updates must be reviewed as well.
If it works that way already then being able to “swat” a games rating shouldn’t work….
Either way, I feel better protections are in order on both sides, for the developer and consumer.
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
@HeadPirate Oy…. That sounds like, in theory at least, you could “swat” a game by just reporting that a game has gambling or something in it….. sounds like guilty till proven innocent to me.
Wonder if our ESRB works the same? Hmmmm
Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch
Re: Review: Balatro (Switch) - Devilishly Compelling Cardplay, And A Clear GOTY Contender
Knew this was going to get at least a 9! Truly a great game and addictive as any AAA I’ve ever played. It’s seriously addictive as BotW, Skyrim, Witcher, etc…. Hours pass and you don’t even realize.
Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit
