Surprised this doesn’t have touch off the bat, but still picked it up. Have yet to try it, but all these types of games truly need is a “snap to” input to get the build selection menu, and then replicate mouse left click with R Trigger, and mouse scroll with left or right sticks.
Simcity SNES is one of the best Sim genre games of all time, and it did it that all with just a controller, so the possibility is there as long as someone makes a proper controller layout that works well and isn’t confusing to hell.
Edit - I play a lot of unsupported/unverified games on Steam Deck and use community layouts for the controls, like on SimCity 3000. A lot of times controller setup works surprisingly well in these games, even without official controller support.
@Citano I agree, def picking this up. Checked out the vids and review score on Steam (75%/Very Positive) and it’s convinced me it’s a definite “Gotta Try this”. Same happened with 20XX, and I ended up loving that. Plus the devs seem to have put an inordinate amount of love in the art and animations, they deserve a ton of credit there. The rest can be balanced out over time.
Heck yeah thanks for this update! I still have yet to sink my teeth into the first one, but I heard good things and bought it awhile back. Just tossed this on my wishlist! Looks like the Deluxe is on sale for $23.99 (US) until 2/11/25, so you can get the deluxe version for the base cost of the main game regularly
Love this on Switch! Granted I’m sure it works/runs better on pc, but portable Civ is just amazing! Found that out with Civ Rev 2 on vita (which I didn’t like as much as Civ Rev 1 but still was fun)
@shoeses I haven’t been able to even get past the opening of Starfield to be honest…. It starts nearly exactly like Outer Worlds, but without any true charm to it…. It’s another game I’ll have to force myself through. I know just from the gameplay FO4 is a good core game. I’ve made it to level 14 before, though that was mainly due to crafting crap.:..
I want to feel the need to explore more in games like FO4 and Starfield, but they just don’t have a starting draw for me.:.. it’s like I get hit with a wall of “meh” right off the bat. Particularly so with Starfield, but that wall is also present with FO4 thanks to the focused distraction of rebuilding Sanctuary at the beginning.
It starts nearly like FO3, a family member mystery. But FO3 keeps you on a chase and only distracts with exploration quests…. FO4 SHOULD want you to chase after your baby first thing, but instead it redirects you right back to sanctuary and distracts you. Lol
@Andee This is why I kept ricocheting off of FO4 every time I tried to play it. Between giving the main char voice lines, and how jarring (and limited!) dialog was compared to FO3/NV….. I’m finally forcing myself to play it, and the gunplay is def superior, as is crafting. Not a fan of settlement building, so I wish there was less focus there and more dialog……. But I’ve truly gotta force myself through the dialog….
@Olrun Np! As someone who suffers from Motion Sickness and Eye Fatigue with games, adjusting these settings usually helps.
Also, at 42 I finally decided to go to an eye doc and told them my issues with gaming on the tv - headaches, blurred text, etc. Got diagnosed with minor astigmatism, and issued a pair of glasses to help. Since then no issues! And back to happy gaming, not struggles…. So maybe something else to look into if the above doesn’t help or other games also cause issue!
@Olrun it’s probably since they switched the game engine. Go into settings and disable flashing, screen shake, dmg numbers, etc. basically disable almost everything on the VFX. See if that helps. Should also increase your fps too.
@Anti-Matter Glad I’m not the only one that voxel style doesn’t appeal to. I wanted to like Echo Generation, as before it came out I’d read it was going to be set in the 80s, which is my generation and I love that stuff….. but then I saw the visuals…. No thanks. I’m not a graphics snob or anything, far from it, but that style actually hurts my head to play after awhile - about 3 hours into the Touryst.
@amongtheworms That’ll probably be the funniest thing I read all day! 😂😂😂 Thank you!
Spent an insane amount of time on these two titles back in the day. Loved Chris Sawyer games and had the privilege of chatting with him a few times on AIM back after he’d released Transport Tycoon.

Sony did the same for Ps5, but didn’t do it until after the retail fiasco.

To those that said the difference between 720 & 1080 or 1080 & 4k are barely perceivable to the human eye at normal viewing distance, bravo! Nailed it. And I’m being fully serious if this comes across sarcastic…..
The only time you’re going to truly notice differences is one of two circumstances - running a lower resolution on a higher resolution display, aka 720 or lower on a 4k. Or if you’re playing right next to your monitor like you would at a desk for pc gaming. In those particular cases yeah you can see a difference, sometimes majorly. Edit - it should be noted this vastly depends on the quality of your tv/monitor and if the manufacturer decided to invest in quality upscaling. My Samsung displays dvds just fine, as well as 480-720 game images.
For the rest of us gaming from the couch on a 55-75 inch tv form about 10-12 feet away….. yeah all those extra pixels don’t matter. Even with my glasses on the only major difference I’ll see between 1080 and 4k on my tv is clarity of text, and other minor sharpness…..
I got a Steam Deck in Sept, and I’ve been comparing visual quality to games on my Series X. Most of the time there’s very little or no discernible difference. RDR2 looks mostly the same, and the only real difference is particle effects, granted I know this is last gen. Baldurs Gate 3 is basically the same, except that hair…. Whoa buddy, the hair is rough on Deck, probably one of the particle or volumetric settings that had to get lowered. Otherwise same faces, same terrain, etc. Does cap at 30fps on deck, and still has some drops but that’s not part of “visual fidelity” difference we’re speaking. Fallout 4, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk (all last gen, but with next gen updates) really can’t tell the difference between the 720p Deck (native is 800p, but when possible process at 720 and upscale for better frames) and 4k on my tv.
Off subject but it should also be noted that upscaling and frame generation software is coming along super nicely. FSR3.1 in particular on Spider Man: Remastered is insane….. you can run that game at 30-40fps and have it look like the ps5 version or 60fps but it’ll look like the ps4 version.
This gives me hope for some amazing ports on Switch 2. Considering the Deck is the underpowered underdog of the Pc handheld market but runs games more or less like a Switch, just download and play (for the most part, a few games require visual settings tinkered for better output, and older titles can require adjustment of controls/applying a community layout)….. and knowing that Nintendo is truly insane when it comes to squeezing out the best of limited hardware. I’d be willing to bet Switch 2 will run better than SD even, and more over, be able to upscale/frame gen the old titles.
Wow….. just wow. The audacity and entitlement of some people. Us 80s/90s kids use to have a particular word for this type of idiocy. It’s not PC to use such language nowdays, but this is exactly the type of thing we used it for. “When someone or some situation had the intelligence and capacity to be avoided but failed to do so it was completely…. “
@ChromaticDracula the basic gist I got from it and the reviews back when I picked it up on Xbox, “if you like Fallout, you’ll like this”. Very similar to, but not quite. More focus on survival, less focus on npcs and missions.
Well at least someone was listening when we said we wanted Fallout on Switch. Granted it’s not exactly Fallout, but close, and it’s got an 82% Steam score.
I picked this up on Xbox awhile back when it was on sale but haven’t had a chance to try it out. Supposedly pretty good though!
I honestly thought it was just me / my wifi, but ever since I updated to 19 my Switch has been often having download speed issues where I won’t hit above 2.8mb (my DSL cap is 25mb) and that’s with nothing else using the bandwidth. Meanwhile all my other devices can hit 25mb when tested.
Also putting the switch in sleep mode completely stops downloads if I’m on the 2.4ghz band. Had to disable pass off on my mesh to prevent my switch from getting tossed on the 2.4ghz band - it would auto force it even if it was in the same room as the modem.
My switch is the only device on my network having any issues. Honestly thought I was loosing my mind.
@Jack_Goetz @Yodalovesu I’m willing to bet it has something to do with Thunderful’s restructuring they’ve been doing this year. Likely the publishing license on the eshop got lost in translation somewhere. That’s usually the typical reason a game gets suddenly yanked from the eshop and without any notification or news on it.
Only other reasons I’ve seen are change in ratings, or some major issue in the coding (usually one that leads to kernel access or something to that effect).
@Vyacheslav333 Corpse Party is awesome! Fell in love with the series on 3DS. Played with headphones on and that Binaural Audio was absolutely amazing!
@somnambulance I thought the same thing. How did they NOT cover that? I’ve got it but haven’t tried it out yet. Supposedly runs really good, and looks good too boot. Just gotta deal with loading times between area transitions, which is nothing for those of use who played Oblivion, Monster Hunter, Fallout, etc…. Lol
Surprised there’s no mention of Atom RPG / Trudograd on the list still…. Good game/series with over 80/70% on Steam. Good homage to the original Fallout games.
@CJD87 Yeah I think it’ll come in slight under the deck in terms of power. Nintendo will want to try to hit a 4-5 hour play time on the battery most likely. But, Nintendo knows how to make great gaming OSs and it’ll be much slimmer than SteamOS leaving more room for processing to be solely for gaming. It wouldn’t surprise me if they left out voice chat again honestly. Most gamers I know use WhatsApp or discord anyways to chat with friends, and Nintendo probably sees the same.
And even if it’s lighter than SD in terms of power, it’ll likely hit the exact same or higher levels of visual fidelity and fps. It also wouldn’t surprise me if they had a “Pro Dock” that had an external gpu for higher processing while docked giving people the ability to hit 4k/30-60fps.
I’m pretty sure Nintendo has some Demonic Pact in place for their hardware and software engineers at this point…. They tend to work incredible magic with the least amount of tech. Still amazes me that we’re playing PS4/Xb1 games in portable fashion…. Granted with much less visual fidelity, but still…. Witcher 3, Hogwarts, Doom and Borderlands 3? Holy crap…. We live in a an awesome and crazy time for gaming
@CJD87 Same! I’m hoping for a similar to power with Switch 2. I’m guessing they’ll pull the old Nintendo magic and give us a system that’s slightly less powerful, but more capable due to more modern hardware and a trimmed svelte OS per usual. I’d take a 40% power increase over Switch 1 and full Backwards Compatibility and be a happy camper to be completely honest. Just want more modern multiplat titles to come to it like BG3, Elden and Cyber Punk, plus the ability to run my old library in a smoother / better visual fashion like Witcher 3 or Borderlands 3.
If they exceed that I’m giddy. If they manage to charm MS/Bethesda into bringing the Fallout franchise over then I’m so far past giddy, I couldn’t begin to describe it. 😂 Just want Fallout series and the HD ports of Wind Waker and Twilight dang it!
@mlt This is one of the reasons I ended up grabbing a Steam Deck OLED this year. I love my Switch and Deck combo - I get all the Nintendo games, most of the Xbox games, and a large portion of PlayStation games all portable. So sweet! Highly suggest grabbing one if you can afford it.
It’s not quite as simple as Switch in terms of plug in, update and play, but it’s pretty dang close and you do get to fiddle with being able to adjust for performance or visual fidelity if you want.
I noticed the other day there was no coverage or fan fair for Atom Rpg or its sequel Aton Rpg: Trudograd. They both have over 80% positives on Steam and over 70-80 on Metacritic. I played the first one for around 5 hours on Switch and it’s really good, should def check it out!
Surprising that this, nor its prequel, haven’t gotten coverage on this site! No reviews, and no news that this even released earlier this year! I missed the release somehow.
First game is really good, but didn’t even know this had released on Switch until last night. No funds atm, but once I can get it I’ll leave a comment.
Again, to all Fallout/Wasteland fans, this is a good series. Both games are above 80% positive on Steam reviews, and I can vouch for the first game.
@dartmonkey Noticed you reviewed Wasteland 2, and thought maybe you might be interested in tackling some mini reviews for these indie gems
@Warioware Ive been tempted a time or two to grab Injustice 2 on the Xbox store when it’s on sale for $5-7….. I loved the story in the first one and the fighting was fun.
Yeah Def Jam was amazing and the licensing would likely cost more than they expect to make in return, although most of us that played it would buy it again as a port or remaster in a heartbeat! I think it was Ghostface Killers entrance that lives rent free in my head, “Make room for Ashy Knuckles y’all!” That and DMX being like 3’8”…😂😂😂
I might be the only one, but Backyard Wrestling was fun too, wouldn’t mind playing that again either. I dig fighters, and games in general, that have just outlandish specials/moves/etc. Shaggy’s triple knee to the groin followed by a groin kick that shot the enemy across the screen…. 😂😂😂😂
But yeah, I blame Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 and Worms for my love of outlandish stuff in games. That and Looney Tunes. 😂
@Warioware lol yeah their guest spot characters are always off the wall. Some I enjoy a bunch, Predator and Xenomorph were fun times! Others, while well done, just felt odd as heck to have in the series.
As for most complete fighting game, I missed out on a bunch, like a lot of the Tekken series. I was a big fan of Soul Calibur on Dreamcast, had a really great campaign mode for single player, but it had a smaller roster. Overall I really couldn’t say which felt the most complete package to me. DB FighterZ has been a fun time on Switch, with a crap load of unlockables.
Still to me, I don’t think MK has been nearly as fun as it was back with MK2 or UMK3. Think that was pinnacle MK for me personally.
I really need to dig into SF6 on my Xbox at some point. Supposedly the create a char mode is pretty amazing. Like a full fledged adventure rpg fighter, which if true is amazing and right up my alley.
I miss the create a char days from Def Jam Vendetta/FFNY. God those games were fun
@Warioware I play almost exclusively in handheld mode, and I feel ya with fighters catering to pros and such. I used to be big into them, especially MK and Killer Instinct, back in the 90s.Was fun owning the machine at the local arcade for an hour or so. Now though, like you, I’m in it for the story, and maybe some couch co-op/online with my nephew or friend, but I avoid any competitive stuff outside that - not even casual public fights online.
I just basically wanna level up the characters/kameos and unlock all the finishers, then just mess around vs the npcs and such. Which is why I liked MK1 going with the invasion maps over the towers in MK11, plus so much crap being locked behind multiplayer and having to use an AI. I mean, at least having the AI was an option, but still….
Picked this up last night, along with Zelda, and Beyond Galaxy. Haven’t had a chance to play any of them though.
I had faith this was going to be a good game as Graveyard Keeper is really good. Glad to hear I was correct in the assumption! Can’t wait to dig into it.
@Warioware Lol you sound a lot like me. I wasn’t playing the Invasion stuff for MP or anything, just to clear the campaigns and unlock skins and such plus grind out chars and kameos. I’m mainly a single player gamer too, only dipping into online for something like Splatoon or to co-op Borderlands/Diablo with friends.
I’m also pretty forgiving with games, and graphics aren’t a prime factor for me, case in point I own Witcher 3 on Xbox, Ps, and Switch but I’ve only ever finished the switch version. Never played more than 2 hours on either other version. Playing a game like that in handheld is more immersive for me, much like reading a book or something.
My only real gripes with MK1 was the Invasion tower (I called it Seasonal Tower on accident) that leveled up everytime you beat it. It was introduced in the second Invasion, but only on other consoles, the Switch version was stuck with the original invasion tower that S2 replaced. Switch version didn’t level, and had crap rewards compared to the other versions. That sucked. The only other gripe was some of the graphical tearing and weirdness that occured especially during heavily crowded scenes like the final scene climbing the tower to the final battle in story mode. But to be fair, every version had graphical issues for the first few months, lol.
I’d be willing to bet it’s come a long way since those first few months…. I’ll have to grab the expansion and redownload it.
@Warioware Thanks for answering, I was about to ask the same question…. For the first 3 seasonal towers/maps the Switch version was VERY rough. Hoping it’s gotten better now, and at least the boards and towers have the same parity. Really sucked that we got shafted on the “xp tower” while all other versions had it and could grind the chars to max within a few days. We got stuck with a previous season tower for 2 of those seasons….
All those would be amazing additions to the Switch 2 library, and it’s truly hard to pick one. Elden would be the clear choice as a mature dark toned reveal to match the Skyrim reveal, but a personal pick would be more or less a three way tie with Elden, Baldurs, and Fallout series.
Cyberpunk would be amazing, but last I heard it still doesn’t run great on last gen.
But…. I think Switch 2 should more be compared to Steam Deck capabilities, as that would likely be what Nintendo is targeting…. Not sure how CP runs on that, but I’ve heard Baldurs 3 runs well on it. Between the other Baldurs games being on Switch, and Larian supporting Switch, that could be a pretty safe bet to happen on Switch 2.
I highly doubt it’ll release at $500, tho personally I’d be willing to pay that as long as it has backwards compatibility and hopefully upscaling of previous Gen titles.
$400 is much more likely a price point they’ll aim for. They’ll also likely not go above 128-256gb for internal storage, leaving the consumer to decide how much storage they need - this is historically accurate with their consoles. If they go with an SSD solution, we can hope it’s swappable to something larger, as well as having at least a single if not dual SD card slot. Dual would be nice to allow for expansion without having to only invest in the biggest micro sd available.
But if you want realistic specs, and price point, look at Steam Deck. It’ll likely be near there in terms of specs, and aim for a lower pricing model. Probably through trimming of expandable options like the internal storage.
The Steam Deck is its largest competitor in a handheld sense. It has similar design choices to Switch that Ally, Legion and Claw don’t have. Ease of use OS, plug in and play gaming, battery life being a primary focus. So don’t think for a moment Nintendo will be targeting the other handhelds, it’s just not their style, and those are portable Windows PCs capable of gaming, with very high price tags ($700+). It should also be noted none of those come with anything higher than a 1TB ssd from the factory. Even the SD didn’t have 1TB models till OLED.
It would be nice if Nintendo offered a “Pro” type model off the bat too like SD, with a beefier internal storage and OLED screen. That I would be willing to drop $500 for.
@bransby I had to turn off religious victories when I wasn’t aiming for them. Such a PIA when you’re cruising along only to get sniped by religion. It’s a fun victory to go for yourself, but not fun to defend against random AI.
These are pretty awesome, even if they’re a bit pricier than standard Sandisk models. And while you can get other brands cheaper, personally I wouldn’t choose anything but Sandisk or Samsung micro sd cards. Way too many horror stories of corrupted data on off brands. Plus Nintendo officially licensed to Sandisk for a reason, they thoroughly tested so you don’t have to be the Guinea Pig!
Also this is really late in lifetime for officially licensed micro sd cards….. which leads me to believe the Switch successor will likely also use micro sd cards. Which makes sense, Ally/Legion/SD also use micro sd cards. Let hope for dual micro sd card slots so we can more easily expand our storage without having to spend hefty chunks of change on the biggest sizes. My 1TB has been full for years now…..
Played Generations on 3DS and transferred my char over to MHGU where I completed almost every quest, minus Hyper Gol/Sil combo. Still need to do that one. My MHGen file was setting at 460hrs at the time of transfer, and those hours did not officially transfer with on the safe file. My current save file is 869hrs, so in total you’re looking at closer to 1300 to complete everything, including building and maxing every weapon in a weapon set. I built all the Bows, as that’s my main.
@nala310 niiiiice! Inner 80s and 90s me is jealous. The smart alec in me says, “just how many A/B switches or Channel 3/4s you usin?”
Edit - Sudden core memory unlocked, I remember going to Radio Shack to get an A/B/C/D switch so I could have my SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, and n64 hooked up. I felt like Voltron.
@Porky This was my first question when reading the article.
I’ve got an OLED switch and very very rarely have issues with games. Games that other people complain about like Pokémon s/v and such. I’m truly wondering if having it installed on SD/System plus the more efficient processor makes a difference.
I’ve got access to a V1 Launch Switch, so I’ll have to do some testing….

I’d be willing to bet Switch 2 will run better than SD even, and more over, be able to upscale/frame gen the old titles.
Re: Nintendo Suing Streamer For Allegedly Broadcasting "Pirated" Switch Games Ahead Of Official Release
Wow….. “
Yup, you know the rest. 😂
Re: Random: Someone's Figured Out How To Run Custom Code On Nintendo's Alarmo
I mean at this point it ain’t a proper electronic unless it’s running Doom. iDSoft should start advertising stuff as “Doom Certified” now. 😂
Re: Exclusive: Survival Horror RPG 'Chernobylite Complete Edition' Is Coming To Switch
@ChromaticDracula the basic gist I got from it and the reviews back when I picked it up on Xbox, “if you like Fallout, you’ll like this”. Very similar to, but not quite. More focus on survival, less focus on npcs and missions.
Re: Exclusive: Survival Horror RPG 'Chernobylite Complete Edition' Is Coming To Switch
Re: Switch System Update 19.0.0 Is Apparently Causing Some Issues

Ok you’ve sold me on it, but the one hit kill stuff is gonna tick me off. 😂

@BASEDSAKRI np! Yeah seriously play the whole thing with headphones, truly an awesome experience!

@BaronMunchausen I know better, you’ve just outted yourself as a time traveller! I know you went into the future to grab Laika! 😂
But seriously, I can vouch and remember when it released. Almost grabbed it. Wishing I would have now!
Re: Community: 41 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You
@Jack_Goetz @Yodalovesu I’m willing to bet it has something to do with Thunderful’s restructuring they’ve been doing this year.
Re: Community: 41 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You
@Vyacheslav333 Corpse Party is awesome!
Re: Monastery Stealth Game 'The Stone Of Madness' Plots A January Release
Re: Monastery Stealth Game 'The Stone Of Madness' Plots A January Release
Re: Monastery Stealth Game 'The Stone Of Madness' Plots A January Release
@mlt This is one of the reasons I ended up grabbing a Steam Deck OLED this year. I love my Switch and Deck combo - I get all the Nintendo games, most of the Xbox games, and a large portion of PlayStation games all portable. So sweet! Highly suggest grabbing one if you can afford it.
It’s not quite as simple as Switch in terms of plug in, update and play, but it’s pretty dang close and you do get to fiddle with being able to adjust for performance or visual fidelity if you want.
Re: Community: Did We Miss A Switch Game You Love? Send Us Your Recommendations

For a moment I thought the new Zelda Limited Edition Lite came with all that stuff and was cussing up a storm that I didn’t buy one. 😂😂😂
Re: ATOM RPG: Trudograd

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Lands 'Khaos Reigns' Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Lands 'Khaos Reigns' Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Lands 'Khaos Reigns' Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Review: Bloomtown: A Different Story (Switch) - An Evocative, Demon-Catching RPG
Picked this up last night, along with Zelda, and Beyond Galaxy. Haven’t had a chance to play any of them though.
I had faith this was going to be a good game as Graveyard Keeper is really good. Glad to hear I was correct in the assumption! Can’t wait to dig into it.
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Lands 'Khaos Reigns' Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Lands 'Khaos Reigns' Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Warioware Thanks for answering, I was about to ask the same question…. For the first 3 seasonal towers/maps the Switch version was VERY rough. Hoping it’s gotten better now, and at least the boards and towers have the same parity. Really sucked that we got shafted on the “xp tower” while all other versions had it and could grind the chars to max within a few days. We got stuck with a previous season tower for 2 of those seasons….

Re: Talking Point: What Game Should Be 'Switch 2's 'Skyrim Moment'?
Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?
Re: Sid Meier's Civilization VII Will Let You Rule The World February 2025
@bransby I had to turn off religious victories when I wasn’t aiming for them. Such a PIA when you’re cruising along only to get sniped by religion. It’s a fun victory to go for yourself, but not fun to defend against random AI.
Re: Official Pokémon Micro SD Cards Are Here, Including Huge 1TB Snorlax Card
Re: 36 Longest Switch Games Worth Playing To The End
Played Generations on 3DS and transferred my char over to MHGU where I completed almost every quest, minus Hyper Gol/Sil combo. Still need to do that one. My MHGen file was setting at 460hrs at the time of transfer, and those hours did not officially transfer with on the safe file. My current save file is 869hrs, so in total you’re looking at closer to 1300 to complete everything, including building and maxing every weapon in a weapon set. I built all the Bows, as that’s my main.

Re: Poll: Tomba! Special Edition Is Out, But Have You Been Able To Play The Thing On Switch?
@Porky This was my first question when reading the article.
I’ve got an OLED switch and very very rarely have issues with games. Games that other people complain about like Pokémon s/v and such. I’m truly wondering if having it installed on SD/System plus the more efficient processor makes a difference.
I’ve got access to a V1 Launch Switch, so I’ll have to do some testing….
