We're just a couple of days away from Super Bowl LIV and while we're not exactly clued up on the big event ourselves (we're mostly based in the UK, sorry!), we do know one thing: it doesn't usually feature Sonic.
The speedy hog has landed himself a big game spot this year, presumably kicking away competing brands with those giant shoes of his. It features NFL stars Michael Thomas and Christian McCaffrey, Olympic track star Allyson Felix, and NASCAR driver Kyle Busch all commenting on someone who's just too fast to handle. Any guesses who that might be?
As you've probably figured, the ad is aiming to promote the upcoming movie due to arrive in theatres on 14th February. If you missed them, several clips from the film were released earlier this week.
Feeling hyped for this one yet? Let us know in the comments.
Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!

Oh, good more hype, for a movie nobody wanted endorsed by sports stars who have no idea what a "Sanic" is .
Cause that's what we needed.
i'll be in the minority but i don't think this film looks that good from the trailers so far, i mean if it wasn't sonic would anyone be at all interested?
@quinnyboy58
Most likely not.
What's his what again? English is not my native language, I'm not sure what they are saying... What's his "for" again?
Edit: OH, What's THIS FOR again. Duh.
Gotta say, it's nice to see gaming taking screentime during an event like this! Means a lot to help fans of it in this charisma-driven, backwards-arse country.
Boy, they really put a lot of effort into this movie. I think it might have a chance to be a huge success like the Smurfs movies and the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.
The promote the heck out of this movie lately, they changed the design after the negative backlash to trick fans that they accomplished something, and the design itself is very close to that of the original Sonic, which is the only reason this franchise is still alive to this day.
I can't believe it, but this movie might have a chance to earn some money, not be good, I mean, it is a Sonic product after all, but to make a lot of money.
Movie ad or not, I think it's pretty cool seeing Sonic get a Super Bowl commercial. Looking forward to seeing the movie, probably not on release, but hopefully shortly after.
Doesn't this kind of take the reaction away from seeing it when it airs during the super bowl. Don't you want the reaction to it and not have people expecting to see this commercial. Unless they got a cheaper spot before the game begins and just want the attention
It's really weird to see Sonic have better ads for his movie than the entire experience of his games.
Man, just give me Colors 2.
The action scenes shown off in this ad look really good and well shot
I am still hyped as all heck for this movie
Everything I’ve seen of this movie decreases my interest in it ... until now. This ad did just enough to put it on my ‘wait until it comes to Netflix’ list
@KitsuneNight I don't know. I kind of have to give it credit for the meta humor. The commercial points out quite literally that athletes don't know anything about the things they endorse. Give them money, they say anything.
Ad render looks iffy, but it still looks like a grand old time at the movies for all.
Also, even if it sucks, it's great to see Carrey going full Carrey again!
(PS: Nintendo Life, bet on San Francisco... you won't be disappointed. 😜)
@KitsuneNight Jesus can you be more of a wet blanket? I don't expect it to be a blockbuster, but to support the idea of more video game based films being made, I'd at least say give this one a view first.
@quinnyboy58 I’d watch it even if it was a purple dildo. I go for free to the movies anyway. Im not that critical of movies unlike some other people.
Bearing in mind what has come before (looking at you Mario, SF, Double Dragon, RE2 onwards etc), I remain optimistic that this could be the best video game adaptation yet. I'm not saying it'll be good,
I'm just managing my expectations and willing to give it a chance.
Wow, they really want to make their money back on whatever it cost them to redo Sonic. Super Bowl ads are expensive. I'm still not sure how well this movie is actually going to do.
Sure, Sonic doesn't look like a horror monster anymore, but the movie still looks like a silly kids movie.
Can’t imagine this movie making its money back, spending on a super bowl ad will only add to the losses. Hopefully it’s good, but I’d be surprised if it were.
@Paraka What would 'Colors 2' entail?
More 2D overshadowing 3D levels? More Wisps? More Sonic & Tails telling dumb joke after dumb joke for a story? Recycled final boss? More music by Tomoya Ohtani? Levels ending before they really begin?
That's Sonic Lost World by the way. But most of these apply to Forces too.
And I don't mean to discredit your idea. I just think it already happened.
CGI looks kinda bad, jokes feel flat BUT THEN that little thing Jim Carrey does at the end (just like the coffee bit) is so good for something that I migggght see it.
@AlienX - Isn't that cherry picking particular bits out of the game to subvert the overall game's reception to placate your personal view of it?
I mean, we can do that with anything; Why have more Pokémon games when it's just more water types?
@Paraka But I like water types, I dislike crappy expensive games. Also what else could I pick from Colors? It's not a very big game. I gave you reasons why I don't like the game, you didn't give me anything useful back. (Well Ohtani's music isn't bad, just not as good as the previous tracks.)
Am I supposed to praise it for an entire act being about the green wisp mindlessly collecting rings? Whoops there I go again cherry picking.
I'm not plotting to change your mind about a game you like, I want to know what a "Colors 2" would do for Sonic that Lost World or Forces didn't try already.
If it wasnt for Batman I wouldn't have watched Batman vs superman, Batman forever, Batman and Robin, Lego Batman. But I watched all of them because of Batman. People watch movies sometimes specifically because of IPs.
I only played Mario Odyssey because of it featured Mario. Guess what? To me I think that was the worst mainline Mario game I have ever played.
@AlienX - I didn't expect you to praise it for being a gem, but I also didn't expect someone to come out to claim my tastes are horrible and already done by even worse games. And that it's "okay" to have a bad opinion.
When I say Colors, I say it as the last solid Sonic Team game made of Sonic. Crisp colorful worlds, power-ups that felt useful, 2D favored, simple cast, straightforward story.
I can agree, some of the negatives you listed are, well, obvious. But Tails jokes defined Colors gameplay? Hardly.
Surely, yes, something's have been done in future games. But just like other games butchered 3D worse than Adventures did doesn't make it Adventure's fault.
@DarkKirby I want them to make their money back purely cause the studio who had to redo it closed down. That was bogus.
They are pushing heavily on this movie. I hope it will succeed. I will go see it
An ad for a movie I don't expect to be good during an event I dislike.
Well, at least I don't need to worry about it! lol
Every aspect of this movie looks horrible
Sonic, if it had to be made, should have been a computer animated feature taking place in Sonic's actual world, not ours
@quinnyboy58 i would, mostly cause jim carry is involved.
you could probably replace sonic with the road runner or speedy gonzales without it making much of difference, aside from it drawing in more loony toon fans then sonic the hedgehog fans.
I want to vomit; this is just pathetic.
They didn't play it what gives x.x
@MegaVel91
Sure, but it's not like the studio that redid Sonic will see a penny of the money from this movie.
