The years of waiting are finally over, as The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming to the Nintendo Switch in "late 2021".
It's been almost 15 years since the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl arrived on Nintendo DS; the fourth-generation games launched in 2006 in Japan, and in 2007 in the west. The news comes from today's Pokémon Presents showcase, a 20-minute presentation celebrating the franchise's 25th anniversary.
Interestingly, the games have not been developed by Game Freak, instead being made by ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon HOME.
"Developed by ILCA, Inc., and directed by Junichi Masuda (GAME FREAK) and Yuichi Ueda (ILCA), Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl enable fans to experience the original story and game features from Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl in a fresh way. The original games have been faithfully reproduced and colourfully revitalized for Nintendo Switch.
The sense of scale of the towns and routes has been carefully preserved, and fans who played the original games will recognize many familiar places. These games are updated with the easy-to-understand, player-friendly conveniences introduced in recent Pokémon core series video games, in addition to up-close-and-personal Pokémon battle scenes."
A prequel to Diamond and Pearl called Pokémon Legends: Arceus was also announced. This game will be an open-world adventure set in Sinnoh's past.

These look like fake IOS games ... doesn't mean I wont regretfully buy it
Not sure how I feel about the MC’s overworld sprites...but still so hyped for the game’s announcements!!
I can't believe this looks worse than Omega Ruby
Yeah they look kinda bad but whatever, Pokémon legends.
The chibi art style looks horrible so no thanks. I'd rather just play the original if I wanted to play gen 4 that badly.
I honestly prefer the original artstyle. This is so weird. I'd rather look at the SWSH tree textures for hours than look at this. Legends on the other hand
This game looks so silly, I'd rather play the Original games, wth.
And the Pokemon Legends Arceus game looks very empty.
I had no excpectations whatsoever and I'm still disappointed
Still gonna give the Legends game a try I think. Gonna stick to my original copies of Diamond and Pearl though, thanks
Remakes and a new game! Literally no one could complain about that.
The remakes artstyle was very disappointing I was hoping it would be Like gen 8 so I might of gotten a switch but I changed my mind
Hope they improve the art style, but the name is kinda weird. I do kinda like the chibi thing though but some polishing in the graphics could be good enough
Happy about the remakes but why...WHY did they go with the chibi style!?
In other news, Pokemon Legends looks amazing!
This doesn't look worth $60. The style worked well in 2d on DS. Who thought it was a good idea to recreate it in 3d?
I actually like the art style. Just curious to know if they are truly simply remakes or will they have added content.
that new game killed any interest i had in this
It looks so ugly
The graphical style is not appealing at all.
Tbh, I prefer this over an bad remake. But I don't like the chibi look
It looks promising but the visuals do need tweaking. The Pokémon Home aesthetic is coming through here and that's not necessarily a positive.
People really need to stop giving these guys so much money. They're not even trying to make good quality stuff. This looks worse than the 3DS games.
Oooh...
Chibi style ! 😀
I like the Chibi style since even on DS version they are Chibi too.
Btw, am i the only one here that really excited with Chibi style ?
Ufff. That looks really not that inviting.
Dang why does it look ugly, Game freaking things up again. never got to play this game and this is how it starts out, not looking good.
Thank goodness I'm nothing more than a casual follower of this series. The people who play the game are always angry and disappointed.
It is too bad that the internet already spoiled this news. Also, I'm not really sure about the new art style they went with. It looks pretty blocky and almost on the same level as an iOS-game. I thought GameFreak would go with the same engine they already used for Pokémon Sword & Shield.
I actually really liked the style. I am sure to pick one of them up.
I love the art style, but the second I saw it, I knew people would complain. People complained about link’s awakening and that game looked great. I don’t know why people hate chibi so much.
Mildly interested in this. I kind of expected something over the top like the other remakes, but I remember Omega Ruby being really easy, so I'm kind of interested in trying it out/
TBH, the art style is a bit off, but the main reason I'm not amped is because I think Gen 4 is the least interesting.
I think I'll stay with my D/P on DS but Legends looked fantastic! Open world and free rotation of camera? I'm all for the change
I bet those people who complained about Sword and Shields graphics being terrible are literally eating those words now looking at this 😂😂
While this generation was already portable enough, owning it legally was a road paved with eBay hijinks (Amazon sellers won't ship this stuff to Belarus) and extra taxes (still imposed on any imported online purchase above $25). Probably not at launch, but I'll definitely be in the market for these.
I'm sorry, but these don't look very good. I mean I'm sure they'll be fine as faithful remakes of DP (which is better than if we had gotten a Lets Go version) but they look incredibly cheap.
BUT because GF is instead developing Legends I will keep my complaints at a minimum.
not the best style but arceus is the change we wanted for years
That leak was spot on. Kind of wish I hadn't read it but it was still cool to see this.
this looks terrible, I would have much prefered remakes in the Sw/Sh style! i was hoping this would be the first remake to ditch the grid...
I like that the art style stays faithful and tries to recreate the sprite feel in 3D. A lot better than I had expected.
Why's everyone complaining about the art style? It looks amazing.
I'll wait to see how the chibi look looks like in action. It's not terrible. But it may have just been how it looked during YouTube live feed
So they're turning my childhood into something that looks like a mobile game? Seriously?
@Fandabidozi this is the Nintendo/Pokémon fanbase we're talking about. Someone will complain. Then again, that's everywhere.
Said it in the chat, the chibi's are weird, but it's promising to me because it seems like theyre going for a direct translation of the 2d games to 3d. Even doing just that almost guarantees high-quality games.
I do think it’s cute, but I feel like let’s go did more. This feels like a 1 to 1 remake with updated graphics. Then again that’s what the anti let’s go people wanted.
The artstyle is essentially what if the ds came out now and so did this game.
Cant please everyone. No matter what the Pokemon company does people will still come to these comment sections and complain like spoiled brats lol Oh well, I loved this direct and everything they announced so I am happy
They should have went with XY & Oras style if they wanna go with the chibi model, or better yet let's go pikachu and eevee artstyle minus the let's go catching but with full mainline mechanics..
I always wanted a PS1 version of Diamond and Pearl...
Wow there's a lot of complainers in here. The chibi art style is fun, and definitely seems well suited for a Pokémon game. I can't wait to play through it again.
Modernized GBA graphics. It's cute.
People were complaining about the move away from the 2D look for the main games lately, so there ya go.
I'm just so happy Let's Go seems to have been a one-off thing.
I agree with those who express dissatisfaction with the chibi characters; I think they look gross too. Overworld and environments look superb in my opinion though! The effects are great, and the distinct style of the DS game are kept and emulated flawlessly.
I will most likely skip this game but I am very pleased that they are looking into getting more developers for some of the mainline games. I hope this trend will continue in the future and that there are no dumb gameplay decisions...!
@Johnnel uh i loved the link's awakening style but i hate this one
It’s almost as if they’re leaning into their reputation for refusing to update their games visually. This looks worse than ORAS.
Every other remake brought the past games up to the current era's standards; why does it look like we went back a few generations? I wanted to see Sinnoh reimagined like Sword and Shield.
I prefer ORAS chibi style but this one is in no way a problem. I'm going to Sinnoh
Love it, a return to my favorite Gen. So stoked.
Oh wow.
That's almost the antithesis of what they achieved with the original look on ds, and quite less attractive than Alpha Sapphire / Omega Ruby.
Can't help feel it's a stint at leaning as close to Let's Go as they can get away with, for luring in the younger players. :-/
The art style threw me off at first, but I think the Sinnoh towns and cities would look awkward if they used the Sword/Shield graphics since they’re so small and don’t have many buildings in them.
Im curious whether they included Dynamax in this. I actually prefer this top down view over the SwSh style. The graphics look debatable, but maybe the game will be fun for a change.
I just completed ✅ Pokémon Pearl not too long ago, it was a frustrating process for me
I think I prefer the pixel art and 2.5D style of the originals, but at least the general aesthetic appears to be faithful.
Looks like I'll be revisiting Diamond! Though not at launch. Still need to pick up Sw/Sh.
How many pokemon will be cut from this one?
@Anti-Matter I actually love the chibi artstyle as well. It looks pleasing to me, then again maybe that's because I haven't played too many mobile games xD
I love the artstyle, why is the Pokemon Community so goddamn ungrateful. Always complaining, what a toxic waste.
Jeez... yuck, yuck, yuck. 🤢
I am perhaps one of the most forgiving of diehard fans, but this is easily the most hideous main series Pokémon game ever made. What the hell were they thinking? X & Y on 3DS looked WAY better than this.
Seeing as they opted to do the bare minimum, I would have overwhelmingly preferred that they gave Gen IV the Let's Go treatment instead.
Legends: Arceus looks great though, and the fact that it won't be released too long after should remove the sting from these laughably mediocre looking Diamond/Pearl remakes.
Yes. Finally. I can die happy now.
so adorable, I cannot even
I will probably pick up Brilliant Diamond. Pearl was my first Pokémon game since Red/Blue/Yellow. The DS was the first handheld I bought myself, and Pearl was the first game I bought for it. I remember it being pretty enjoyable but have absolutely no memory of it/the region now, so it'll be interesting to play again so much later down the line.
I don't mind the art style TOO much, the character design in battle doesn't look bad. Not really a fan of the chibi characters outside of battle but I can get over it.
The remake has potential but it needs a lot of work for sure to shine like it should
I am uncertain about the art style. BUT THE NAME
I am not a huge fan of the name
Oh, btw.
Until which generation for Sinnoh Remake?
I hope the National Pokedex until Gen 8.
@spideyroxas How so?
mix feeling, happy when see gen iv comeback on Switch, but kind of disapointed about graphic, they look like Link's Awakening and Story of Season but not so good, and battle animation kind of ugly for me
@broskiplays You're right, they should just accept everything given and never give any criticisms whatsoever.
People need to know that these remakes are being made by the company ILCA, not Game Freak. So direct your anger and frustration toward them.
Yeah, the visuals need tweaking.. wow get rid of the Chibi. Making them look like Sun/Moon would've been sooooo much better.
EDIT: I'm SO down with the gameplay and keeping it in touch with the classic style and not "Let's Go" style.But just a slightly better art direction would've been more... palatable. I'm honestly probably going to get this anyway but I really think they need to do some tweaking graphically. Yuck. It honestly looks WORSE than the original. I'd rather play the original, in fact. I hate complaining and I know lots of work probably is going in and has already gone in but jeeeeezzzzzz....
Not the biggest fan of the overworld models, but if they gameplay's as fun as the originals I won't mind one bit.
I hate the style, and I can't go back to not seeing the wild Pokemon. I'll be passing on this.
Legends tho....... Dayum.
The environments look great, but I just cant handle the character models, I’m out. 🤮
I think the art style is cute tbh. its an update of the gen 4 games, which is better than them ruining the style like people assumed they would. im very excited for these.
Don’t see why so much hate fir the gen 4 remakes, I liked the look of the D/P remakes, it could’ve been a lot worse, we may have not got any Pokemon games at all. I’ll be getting one of them but haven’t decided which yet as I support game development and after the whole way the world is they need support guys
EVERYONE
ACKNOWLEDGE THE GRAPHICS TO THE DEVELOPERS
TO CHANGE THE ART STYLE. TELL THEM. VOICE YOUR OPINIONS
@wolvesboy I am uncertain about the graphics. They look ok but a lot of other people aren't happy about it tho
what the hell...it looks awful...the leak showed much more better visuals, or was it another game?
I didn’t get far in the original Diamond and Pearl games because my second DS had shockingly bad battery. I can forgive the graphics not being top notch.. but even cartoony chibi graphics can look aesethically pleasing.. these look very cheap for such a major franchise in 2021.
I'll admit, this looks ok for a phone game...what do you mean it isn't a phone game?
@anoyonmus
WHAT IF I LIKE THEM?!
@ok1 to be honest that's not saying much lol
Can I just say...words can't describe just how good it feels to be able to be legitimately hyped about Pokemon stuff again? Especially after learning that Gamefreak won't be developing a main series game for once? This alone fills me with so much joy, like...we all finally got what we asked for, and it feels freaking great.
10/10. I love the art style, I think it fits perfectly with this game.
Whereas legends I enjoy the evolution of SW/SH.
This is a good day, people. Be happy!
@anoyonmus
I Like ❤ that Chibi style. 😀
It was already perfect for me. 👍
#Chibiforever 🤟
I like this art style very much. I'm naively surprised by the general negative reaction.
I was looking forward to the remake but the style they picked makes me wish I had the original. I've never had the chance to play gen 4. Does anyone know where I can get Platinum?
Love it. Love the style. Love the direction - there's a lot of potential here. Hopefully Gamefreak dont screw it up because Diamond and Pearl had some of the best lore and story of all the Pokemon games. Team Galactic were cool too.
These look incredible, can't wait!
@Anti-Matter u know what.
I changed my mind
Art style imo is good
Honestly it feels like the Pokémon community is ready to get mad instantly 🙃 I’ll never understand.
This feels like a return to what made the series great.
My first pokemon to play is probably this. Will get sword and shield first tho to learn about the game
I don't mind the art-style and, as someone who's never played Pokemon, I was waiting for something more classic-flavored (i.e. not Let's Go) to understand what the series is supposed to be about.
The fact that I have Breath of the Pokemon to look forward to after finishing this, well, that's the icing on the cake.
Ohh!!! My goodness! This is dreadful... What are these guys smoking???
I'm not a fan of the overworld sprites and the overworld lighting is a bit mobile game looking, but it was a cool reveal all the same.
The decision to let another company handle the remake while GF works on bigger projects is definitely a step in the right direction.
I'm definitely getting them, but they still need to convince me with the content of the game itself. I hope there are some similarites with how ORAS remade Ruby/Sapphire.
What I am disappointed though, is that they didn't show any new Dialga/Palkia forms in an epic battle... I guess I'll have to wait to change my icon D:
@PokemonGirl99
Well, here you go.
You got the answer.
Diamond / Pearl remake on Switch.
Are you ready to play again ?
I love the look of this remake. The people moaning about the chibi art style are weird. It is a chibi remake of a Chibi game. Seriously, up until Sword and Shield, mainline Pokemon games were Chibi games. They are preserving the art style the game was originally made in. I love it.
They look kinda like the Link's Awakening remake in the overworld, but with less heart...
I'm genuinely excited to play these because I hear nothing but great things about Gen IV, but there are plenty of merits to the art-style doing a disservice to it; not so much because it's so egregious, but it lends to yet another game that looks like it could've run on consoles a generation ago.
Compare this to the handheld port to console cousin, Link's Awakening, and even with some gamers disliking the art-style, the production value between these two ports seem miles apart and it doesn't make sense to me.
I get the sense that since another studio was solely responsible for this one Gamefreak said, "We need a Sinnoh remake while we work on this open world game. Here's the DS versions, just do EXACTLY THAT with updated graphics"
This is a good thing, the Sinnoh games were great. And it frees up Gamefreak to work on Legends.
I'm glad Pokémon Legends is a thing so that I don't have to think about this
I think GF knew these remakes wouldn't be very impressive so they attatched Legends to the announcement to compensate. I'm willing to try it, but that art style isn't doing me any favors. Unless new features and content are revealed, I'll just stick with good-old Platinum on my 3DS.
When we heard rumours of it being "chibi style" my brain instantly pictured a Link's Awakening style 1:1 remake and this is pretty much that. Dont get me wrong it's not been done anywhere near as well.
The art style is bogging but the gameplay looks good and the in battle graphics are lovely. Like the original FF7.
Initial reaction to this is a bare-bones, pointless and unnecessary remake. The Pokemon Company’s output in the last decade or so has just been so lacklustre.
@Classic603 then don't protest.
I am not going to.
If people are gonna complain about the visuals, thats on them
These suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, how can people defend these when they look worse than Platinum and will have less content?
I love the art style and i bet most other people do to.. Ignore these people complaining they are the same ones who boycotted Sword & Shield and that game sold 20 million copies.. These people who are complaining are the Minority they and are just loud..
Looks awesome! I will definitely get it.
Could have been a good time to make a 2d art style game, but it doesn’t look bad. I’ll probably get it.
I personally totally love the art style, it looks so good compared to the original too. I know I'll be buying/pre-ordering both versions physical and digital to show my support for this amazing remake.
Pokemon Fans have been begging for 2 things for the past 7 years or so:
1. Diamond and Pearl Remakes
2. New Ideas
So now we got both those things, and people are still pissed off. Both games are still in production, so things will most likely change. Is the new art style for Diamond and Pearl a bit strange? Yes. Were there framerate issues in the Legends trailer? Also yes. But this shows that they listened for once, which is rare in this day and age be it Game Freak or Nintendo or whoever. So can everyone just chill out for once? Stop being ungrateful for 5 minutes and think about what you've all been begging for for the past 7 years.
I hope these are budget games. They don't even look as good as the Let's Go games. 😬
@Fandabidozi Watch this space
As long as these aren't £50 each, I'm on board.
I mean... What's the point of even making it 3D if you're not gonna make use of any of the benefits that come with it. This just looks cheap. Pokemon really would benefit from just returning to its 2D roots methinks. At least its a proper game and not a let's go thing, so that's a massive plus.
ANyway... This is still of interest to me because having a proper Pokemon RPGs on the big screen is such a nice thing after being stuck on the handhelds for so long, but then there's the thing where Diamond/Pearl just aren't all that amazing, they only got good after the updated Platinum version so I do have to wonder if any of the content from that one makes it here? Most obvious would be the added Pokemon because the roster in the OG Diamond/Pearl was pathetic, could definitely to use some new original content as well ala Sevii Island in the Firered/Leafgreen remakes.
Good with the graphics, 2d to semi 3d is Pokemon. The X and Y, Sword and Shield graphics kills the personality and charm Pokemon once had. They should have always kept it being a balance of gen 4 and 5 graphics and improved them. Also people need to stop complaining. This to me seems far better than gen 8. I just wish it was Platinum they remade instead.
As a competitive player Im asking myself: Is this game connected to SwSh in any way? This would be a missed chance, if its not tbh.
I actually like the chibi models that turn full size in battle. Feels nostalgic, as a call back to Game Boy and DS titles. Feels more close to the original than Let's Go! did to Yellow in terms of the world. Outside of the trainers though, this definitely looks like it's running on the overworld engine of Let's Go!
First reaction to overworld MC "ummm... they look a bit weird"
Second reaction: "kinda growing on me the chibi-cute graphics"
@Burning_Spear I was doing some retouching, yet I could smell the hate brewing in my web browser so I thought I'd stick my head in. Wow.
Eh it's not my favorite art style but I'm sure it'll grow on me
Not impressed with the graphics so far, the style is ok but the resolution looks very low
FuglyFuglyFUGLY
I'm fine with the overworld style, it's accurate I suppose. My problem is the lazy pokemon animations from x and y still around. I told yall this would happen. Multi billion dollar company unwilling to change their animations
Wow, I think I spotted "the underground"
And also the "union room"
Hopefully they included:
Platinum Battle Frontier
Platinum Distortion World
Platinum Pokedex
Sword/Shield Nature and IV items
I love Sinnoh, but if they don't include the above, this is a no for me
Ugly art direction, so lazy
Looks like early ps2 games
not sure how i like this. the graphics are very off putting and seem like something gf would release for the 3ds. im not complaining, because they finally are giving us what we've been wanting for the past few years now. i am a bit disappointed that this is what they give us, but im going to get the game anyways...
Looks ok. I wouldn't pay 60 buz for it tho. 25? 35? Idk so many games they really need to up the ante for my time.
I'm still processing this, but...
"WhY sO cHiBi?"
(Looks at proportions on original overworld sprite work)
Hrmmm
Oh, Piplup! How I missed you!
Shine On You Crazy Diamond...
@spideyroxas Actually, I think these look great! Especially when compared to Sword and Shield. The chibi style looks good on Pokémon (in my opinion anyway).
My first reaction was that it was gonna be lets go sinnoh, but theyre core pokemon games. I am dissapointed, I hoped it would be more like Sw/Sh, (Unpopular opinion, I really liked Sw/Sh, I spent over 200 hours on it and the DLC) but legends softened the blow. Like holy crap it looks good! hopefully gen 9 will look like that and be a core game. I think eventually the graphics will grow on me and I will like them.
I'll take this literal graphics upgrade over a bad remake of my favorite pokemon games.
I really dont understand the hate on the graphics. I think its understandable really since they likely wanted to maintain the feel of the originals plus a top down style is likely easier to manage on a technical level
Feel so lukewarm about this.
I'm actually okay about the graphics, but if this is just a tile-for-tile remake of D/P that may potentially have newer features I don't like, like forced EXP share, then I have no reason to play these over Platinum.
I'll wait to see more before I decide how I feel.
You thought main series Pokemon games couldn't be lazier?
Rather than actually remake Sinnoh in actually 3 dimensions with Sw/Sh's poor engine, which would already be low effort, they took a step further than that, and kept the layout the exact same and replaced the sprites with 3D models made to look like the sprites with the same terrible fixed overhead camera angle.
I guess if you're really a huge fan of retro graphics you'll be happy though.
@Seacliff
Oh yeah... The forced exp.share, I forgot about that for a moment.
God I hope they come around and have the decency of giving an option of turning that off at least. Surely adding the option can't be such a monumental task.
I don’t see go in the title so that’s good by me. Hopefully it keeps the originals play style.
@WiltonRoots With you, pal. I think you also smelled evil greed.
Make a huge MOD base on a 3DS Gen VI game, remove anime style cel-shading, change all human character's overworld model to something made by random amateur for their homework after they played fall guys for a whole day, then port it to Switch.
That's Shiningly Brilliant.
Can't wait to see them announce there will be a sign in the game mentions "the Distortion World project has started".
While playing my Platinum on my DS Lite.
@Johnnel At least Link’s awakening look letter. There were shadows and water reflection. This look straight up lazy. It’s not the chibi-style. It’s the terrible plain and dated graphics. Screams laziness. Also, the battle system looks like it was reused from the let’s go battles.
Reminds me of what happened with the Harvest Moon games (not quite as bad though)...
day one for sure
Chibi would be fine, but something def feels off with the art direction. Saying it looks like a fan-made game is doing a disservice to the wonderful work fans do... this is more akin to an upscaled Wii / PS2 game. still, they've got plenty of time to polish these up; if the gameplay is solid, then there will very little to complain about really.
Hate this artstyle! It just looks like fisher price little people!
Super excited for this. I think the art style looks fun and faithful to the originals.
Brilliant Diamond! I'm sure I bought some of this the other week for my dishwasher.
There's no pleasing anyone here! It seems everyone wants a pokemon game with AI generated landscapes based on photogrammetry, Ray traced ambient occlusion and lighting, and nvidia hairworks-laden monsters.....
I love how they just took the original sprites and made them 3D. It's about as faithful to the original as a modern remake can get. I've never played Gen 4 so I'm looking forward to the game's release. I'll probably get Brilliant Diamond but still on the fence as I like both legendries equally.
It kind of looks like... budget Animal Crossing? I'm kind of at a loss for the visuals. It looks good one second, and then then next it looks terribly rough. I guess that's the Pokémon Company for you.
@eaglebob345 There is no doubt in my mind that these will be $60 each.
@Dezzy pokemon it's officially shovelware
The overworld sprites are a bit off putting, but I'll pick it up. Provided I can transfer my 2DS teams
I like the artstyle... Might not be popular but I don't mind it. It's a nice callback to the ds days. I prefer it to sword and shield.
Looks awesome to me. Never played the originals. I don't know what these belly achers are complaining about.
Whelp if this isn’t proof that TPC sees their games franchise as a secondary source of income, I don’t know what is: the fact that they’re just throwing their property at any developer in the ether in order to make a quick buck without any care or supervision of how they handle it should show how far and greedy TPC has fallen
I mean just look at how they’ve massacred my boy!
Cant wait I'll be buying it all
Idk about the chibbi look but the fights feel more alive and look cool
And Pokémon legends! Oh man! A bit rough but this is exactly what we wished for!
The overworld looks so insanely ugly I just wont be able to bring myself to buy and play this. Christ. Those player models are HORRENDOUS. They look worse than the originals!
Looking forward to Pokémon Legends though.
Eww, that doesn't look good. I loved Sinnoh, and this sort of thing is exactly why I was hoping they wouldn't announce remakes yet. This is like a mobile game, and that's shameful.
'They're working on legends' isn't a good reason for this. Just don't do it yet if you can't give it proper attention!
So many people like 'aw dumb bellyachers complain about everything' - yeah, we complain because we care about the series and accepting any laziness just for a logo isn't gonna cut it. I don't agree with the people being outright hateful and aggressive, but people are totally within their rights to be unhappy with things. This just looks kinda blah, and it shouldn't!
As for Legends, well...it looks like an interesting proof-of-concept, but also like it might get rather dull after an hour or two. (On a more random note, what a bizarre set of starters.)
I like what i am seeing.
My buying Radar is on Course, but i'll decide with more Informations
I love the way this looks. Reminds me of the links awakening switch release. I'm all in!
I know it's cool to hate on Pokemon recently, but this genuinely does look awful I've loved all the remakes up to now. They really felt like celebrations of the series, but wow, not sure about this at all.
@ChibiNinja
I don't see how an artstyle tells you it's laziness. It's an intended homage to the original DP. It literally looks like an HD version of the originals. It looks great
Remakes a huge maybe from me...then again Monster Hunter Stories 2 is coming, so I'll probably just stick with that instead. Not a fan of the chibi stuff...
Legends just looks...bad.
I'm actually a big fan of the artstyle they went with for these games. I could never fully appreciate the 3D graphics of Gen VI upwards (frame rate issues and stiff animations), so this new, somewhat minimalist artstyle should be more reminiscent of the past games.
I still say that the remakes of the old games should have visuals more akin to Square Enix's HD-2D. I'm probably in a very small minority with that opinion, but I've always thought that Pokémon shined best in the DS era with pixelated graphics and has struggled a bit in the transition to 3D. With these chibi graphics, though... I do genuinely believe it's close to what I want. Hopefully that extends to the overall quality of the games too.
Doesn't answer #1 question: LET'S GO BATTLES OR NOT!?
If this is it, please let me know.
If this ain't love for non-garbage "battles",
you better just say so!
Also, why are they not called Dazzling Diamond and Pretty Pearl? Are they just not trying to use names the Internet could've predicted years ago.
Not a huge fan of the overworld chibi artstyle but it does seem to be a very faithful visual translation of the original games.
@KingMike
Catching and battling look to be normal.
Lol people are always going to complain. Day 1 for me!
@Bmartin001 stop coping and have some standards for a game in 2021
God i feel bad for die hard fans you guys get shidd all over
After being burned by Sword I ain't dropping 60 on this.
All I wanted was a remake of the GB card game.
Now where is the Eshop listing. I NEED to know
I like this style, not quite as good looking as Link's Awakening remake(which I thought looked awesome), but still good.
Gen 4 is probably my favorite gen. overall, excited to play this one.
Let's remember that Pokémon is the most profitable media franchise in the world. Any developer would be tripping over themselves to work on this. And yet we're stuck with looks it up ILCA
Pokémon pearl. I didn't have enough time with this one, so I'm really happy this comes.
I don't really like the "chibi" style of the protagonists but I don't mind, I can't wait to see the advancements of this game
What is everybody on about, this looks AMAZING! And i think i don't primarily like that artstyle because of the artstyle, but maybe because it's a clear indication that this could be a different experience than Sword and Shield. A good one perhaps! And also, idk, maybe it's the nostalgia playing a part as well. I really really like how this looks and it feels more like what i think of when i think "Pokemon". Can't wait for this!
Yess a real Pokèmon game has returned and l like how they keep it as chibi style
@broskiplays - Ungrateful? Lol, it's a product. They're the ones asking for the money, they're the ones that have to impress. Having standards is not toxic or the same as being ungrateful, no matter how much it disappoints you.
@Ralizah While I agree I do hope we get a Let's Go Johto game in the future! As while I love Heart Gold and Soul Silver I would enjoy those games with the Let's Go mechanics to get rid of the annoying grinding. That and Johto is the region we have spent the longest away from now that Sinnoh is getting a remake and prequel.
The style is really cute. I rather like the chibi approach. Reminds me of Links Awakening for the switch.
Looks like Fisher Price toys. I hope they keep some of the enhancements from Platinum and later generations.
@Brando_ssb Tell em boy 🙂
That was all I needed right there
@abbyhitter bruh
My son loved the SwSH games so he will be excited to see a new Pokemon game coming out this year. I'm not a diehard fan like many in these forums so I'm not as opinionated either way. I'm just happy I can share new gaming experiences with my son. Happy Friday everyone.
I'm excited for this and will end up playing it. I played Diamond back on the DS so I'll go with Shining Pearl this time around. That said I would have liked a Let's Go version with the Pokemon out and about in the wild, making shiny chaining much easier. Also use of the Pokeball Plus and Pokemon GO integration. What they went with is something very similar to Link's Awakening on Switch, while still beautiful to look at it's not exactly what I wanted. But nobody will ever be truly happy with anything. I'll still play this and I'll still try to catch em all!
guys this is a fifteen year old game in diamond and pearl, it is a crime if you buy this overpriced 60 dollar game. just get the og hardware and game like the advice is with skyward sword
They are not even trying anymore
Hopefully they added mega evolutions I would love to see a mega torterra or infernape, and too bad about the chibi art style definitely not my cup of tea
You can say what you want about the art style. But don't get mad about it! Isn't this what all of you Sinnoh fans wanted? Stop getting upset, I'm sure it'll get better by the release date. And even if it doesn't, does it even matter? This is what you wanted, so deal with it.
@Geonjaha Sure thing, don't bother me about it. Twitter is already full of those "critic's". Go cry about it on there.
@Kalmaro If that's the case then i can sue a company for not having enough sugar on my cookies, because i wanted more sugar in there. Please, just stop with your embarassing objections.. you're making a fool out of yourself.
People need to remind themselves of how the games looked originally. They are preserving the art style of how the game looked on DS.
My only issue with the game are the main characters overworld models. They look like something out of Drakomon. Or just generally bad 3d android games. My friend compares them to characters on My Sim Party
If these games have bog standard random encounters I don't want it at all. We finally made it out of that pit, let's not go back in ever again...
@broskiplays Are you criticizing me?
I thought you were above criticism.
I think random encounters are back. I'm done. 👎

@SlimPieEats
If we r lucky 40, most likely 50, but let's b honest they will prob try 60
@Trikeboy
They could have at least put in some effort. The 3DS games could have been great inspiration. Same with Link's Awakening HD and Animal Crossing. This remake is the a downgrade imo. At least outside of battles. There's a right and wrong way to do chibi. This is the wrong way
Why so many hate the art style. Chibi's are great as they stay faithful to the originals. I would take it over full blown 3D graphics anyday. I'm so happy this is exactly how a modern Pokemon game should look like.
Looks about what I expected from a remake of Diamond and Pearl, visually. Who was expecting anything else? My questions are as follows:
How much of Platinum is being mixed into these games?
Battle Park or Battle Frontier?
Are we getting the entire Pokédex this time around, or is it (Platinum Sinnoh + Foreign Legendaries + Handful of Other Non-Native Pokémon)?
@Narrator1
I'm really hoping for at least Platinum Sinnoh dex
I would not get it if is DP Sinnoh Dex
@Johnnel Link's Awakening looks gorgeous and has quite sophisticated post-processing effects going on. This on the other hand.. I think most people are not hating on the fact it has a chibi art-style, but the fact it looks like a cheap mobile game.
I can't believe there are 2D and 3D indie games, made by a handful of people (sometimes only one), that look WAY better than this game by a billion dollar company. It honestly baffles me.
"OvErWoRlD SpRiTeS So UgLy"
I swear, some of you will find anything to complain about. It looks fine.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. Day one buy for me.
@Trikeboy Exactly. People should be happy that they are appealing to the nostalgia. I'll be getting it when they arrive.
Cue "disappointment" from entitled kiddies.
Whatevs. Day one buy x3
MY EYES!!! THEY BURN!! WHAT IS THIS MONSTROSITY.
Nintendo again milking their fans out every penny. This is an insulting remaster. It manages to be a more minimal update than the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire 3DS remakes. This looks like a cheap indie game, and Nintendo will no doubt charge the full £50 for it.
The biggest multimedia franchise in history and we get this.
Gimme Legend Of Zelda 1 in that art style!!
Does anybody know what they mean with easy-to-understand, player-friendly conveniences from recent games?
I hope it doesn't mean they removed all challenges to appeal to more casual players. Like they did in let's Go and SwSh.
Battles look good that's all that matters
I'm also disappointed with the graphics. If they are going to go with a top down style, fine but it needs to look as good as Link's Awakening not a cheap Harvest Moon game. That said it might still be fun so even though the art-style is ugly I'll be interested when it drops to see the reviews. On a more positive note the Legends Arceus game looks very promising.
I actually prefer this style over making them look like Sword and Shield. I really want them to remake Heart Gold and Soul Silver in this same style.
I love that the graphics look like an updated version of the original. Yeah, the chibi is kind of weird but watching the trailer again makes it look more like how the DS version looked. Small and cjte overworld characters with "normally proportioned" sprites when entering a battle.
TBH I have no strong opinions either way, I'm just here for the reliable entertainment of a Pokemon-related comment section. Nothing in the gaming world is funnier than watching gamers in their twenties and thirties acting like angry five-year-olds because they don't like the design of games that are meant to appeal to ten-year-olds.
Some of y'all find anything to complain about, I swear to God. I actually like the chibi style of the overworld sprites. I think it's cute, and it reminds me of Nendoroid figures and the models of earlier Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games.
Personally, I'd like the combat to be more like Pokken Tournament, but less confusing and not limited to stadiums.
I like it. The fact it looks close enough to the originals made me go “Well, that pretty much guarantees some return of the underground”, then I saw someone running around in what looks like it was probably the underground. Good.
I choose you, Cyberpunk Potato Graphics! Oof! Anyone else feel extremely underwhelmed by the visuals of this Pokémon game?
@blindsquarel Funny thing is the original game probably also costs over $60 these days (it definitely is if you don't already have a DS/3DS). Don't know for certain but Pokemon games (especially the English versions) are known to retain their value.
And button controls alone is a reason to be excited about Skyward Sword HD. It sounds like people now are realizing what garbage motion controls were in the version of Twilight Princess they probably played, but after playing TP around 2008, I very quickly bought a GC copy for that reason.
Was never overly fond of the gangly looking character proportions in Sun/Moon or Sword/Shield so this design aesthetic is really pleasing. Would love a new game in this style too.
wanna know another funny thing. these days skyward sword for the wii is 30 dollars loose and 95 dollars new, but with the controller you need to play it it is 66 dollars loose and 180 new not including the console you need to play it and a tv that can play a console with av output. or you could mod your console and spend more money on it. cost even more for the pal version. so you could do all that or buy ss for the switch. maybe people are mad about the price of the pokemon remakes but if they arent than it makes no sense to be mad at skyward swords price. the prices i got in this were from price charting .com
Don't know how I feel about this.
The overworld chibi style is not too bad, though would have liked them to to have done more to distance from the mobile style coloring/shaders. Is closer to the source material then the gen 3 remakes were...kind of found the player model there a little off putting.
If the games are indeed a 1 for 1 reproduction of d/p, I hope there is at least SOME additional new post game content to justify the price hike, since it does like like the battle system/animations have been copy pasted yet again.
@Freddyfred
You don't have a Switch, but you still have several Switch games that you've played?
Incoming cut pokedex to only gen 4 pokemon. No distortion world instead we get some small island with a sign teasing the distortion world and nothing else.
The Battle Frontier will probably be barebone and a copy paste of SwSh battle facility.
They will probably have some exclusive Gmax pokemon that you can't transfer back to SwSh just like ORAS had Megas exclusive to it.
I wish the graphics had the polish of the Link's Awakening remake and Let's Go Pikachu. My first reaction was that it was a mobile game. The textures and models need some loving.
The new style makes me hopeful that the current National Dex will finally be available on this one. Otherwise, this won't pull me back to the franchise after my disappointment with Sword/Shield.
My NatDex 'Mons will have to remain in my Ultra Sun cart until that fateful day comes.
glad to see that this is finally going to be a thing. not a huge fan of the art style this has (such as how the human characters lookfor example). i think let's go pikachu/eevee has a better art style in at least this department. guess i'll have to see what it looks like when it actually drops though
I'm not too sure how I feel about this look, buy I was waiting for the games.... Unfortunately I'll never be able to get them on a reasonable sale until the switch is long dead.
@jbreez00
Lets Go have been 50% off and Sw/Sh were 33% less than a year after release
There is always Walmart at 17% off
@Beaucine I like the title Pokémon of the Wild. I think it makes a whole lot of sense as Pokémon are in and of the Wild.
@Richnj They are not £50.00 each. They have been listed already on GAME and they are £59.99 each. :/
@Alundra-1998 guess I'm not on board then.
@Wolfcreek897 I wish it was Platinum that was remade as well, but then TPC would not be able to charge collectors twice. lol
I think the most interesting bit about this remake is that it wasn’t made by game freak, and that obviously has to do with their more ambitious game. Just really interesting.
Not a big fan of the art style, but that’s all right, I’m not gonna lose sleep over it.
Not keen on the art style, but then thought the same about Wind Waker and new Link's Awakening at first, and they grew on me.
BTW, people should expect new content. It looks like the Palkia/Dialga statue has been fused together. Are the DNA Splicers from Black and White going to make an appearance? https://scontent.fgla3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/155096011_10217953483579727_3550003395776814510_o.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=3&_nc_sid=dbeb18&_nc_ohc=kHRbQrZ6r1EAX9eEOjF&_nc_ht=scontent.fgla3-1.fna&oh=a936c2b2931cdd24d82bdc3e858ab8b0&oe=6060DD5D
@Alundra-1998 The game honours Platinum too. Porygon-Z is in the trailer, but wasn't in the Diamond/Pearl Pokedex. It was in the Platinum Pokedex though. Also, in Floaroma Town, the blonde girl next to the Pokemon Center wasn't in Diamond and Pearl, but was in Platinum.
@TheRealMr_Carpainter friend’s
I'd rather look at Sword and Shield's tree all day! The art style sucks. And it's not just the fact that there are chibi NPCs because I LOVE Link's Awakening's art style. This is just horrible, and I can't put my finger on why. Please change the art style Game Freak!
@Xiovanni
i wasnt trying to say any of that and i apoligize if it came off this way. i am in favor of skyward sword and dont think its overpriced.
my og comment about how these pokemon games arent worth 60 was to say how its rediculus people complain about skyward sword but not this. but yes i know about the control options and motion controls arent the issue.
@1ofUs Guess agree, but legends is not a turn based rpg, so a pass for me.
Ngl these genuinely just look like low effort mobile games, especially in the battles. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna buy the game tho (that is if I do manage to get a switch at some point xD)
@Anti-Matter yes
@abbyhitter idk why. I don't mind the chibi artsyle at all but the graphics do need some polishing imo.
They are staying true to the original versions of the game and not making it into some kind of Let's Go format. I honestly would rather have a remake stay true to the original AND have the format be the same rather than a Let's Go format or what Capcom did with the RE 3 Remake
