Publisher Natsume has given us our first look at Harvest Moon: One World, a new entry in the Harvest Moon series that's planned to launch on Switch this fall.
The footage (captured and reuploaded by NintendoEverything) comes from today's New Game+ Expo showcase, an event presenting new and upcoming releases from indie developers all around the world.
The game was first announced just last month, when it was described as "a brand-new way of exploring Harvest Moon for seasoned players and new generations alike". You'll be exploring an entire world full of new characters and old favourites, all while managing your very own farm.
Can you imagine a world without tomatoes, strawberries, or even cabbage? In the latest entry in the Harvest Moon series, that’s the situation players will find themselves in. Only an old book gives hints of what once was... Buoyed by a mysterious discovery, players will find themselves setting out on an adventure that spans not only their hometown but the whole world! What kind of people and places await? From the gorgeous beaches of Halo Halo to the snowy mountains of Salmiakki, there’s literally an entire world to explore.
What do you think? Are you interested in checking it out when it launches this fall? Let us know down below.

This is fake harvest moon. Looks bad.
Looks like garbage. Anyone surprised?
Never played a harvest moon game before. This will be my first.
Not really bad actually.
But i will wait for the second trailer to see if Natsume has upgrade the gameplay or still persistent with their mediocrity.
They could tone the green down a little bit
Natsume needs to stop developing - those graphics are horrendous, it looks like a PS2 knockoff of the real thing. 🤦♀️
It looks like its for the wii
Natsume makes a lot of money by piggy backing on the harvest moon name and releasing cheaply made games, a real shame. Don't fall for it, buy story of season games instead.
(Puts hand on forehead and sighs...)
@PhhhCough This is not actually a continuation of the original series, just so you know. The games known as Harvest Moon in the west were developed by Marvelous (under the Bokujo Monogatari name in Japan) and localised by Natsume under the HM trademark. In 2014, the original developer ‘split’ from Natsume because the quality of the localisation was becoming horrendous, but Natsume got to keep the ‘Harvest Moon’ name, since it was their own trademark. The series has continued in Japan under its original name, and is now known in the West as Story of Season. Natsume is now developing its own Harvest Moon games to capitalise on the popularity and reputation of the name, but they tend to be really bad and have nothing to do with the old games. I’d definitely recommend going for the latest entry in the original series over this - it’s called Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town and comes out sometime in July if I’m not mistaken. Sorry for the wall of text - lots of people don’t know about this, so I just wanted to warn you!
Better than last tittle! Still.... I pass
Seems like they are trying to make it look less like a mobile game now, I might give it a try if the scores are decent enough.
When it makes Pokemon Sword & Shield look graphically advanced you know it's an ugly game.
I don't expect it to be photo realistic or anything but this game looks really low budget.
When I first heard the concept, I thought it was possible for it to be good. But this looks totally drab with no attention to detail. Yet another cash-grab by Natsume.
@Jooles_95 Thanks for the explanation! Glad we get the Story of Seasons games.
A world without tomatoes, strawberries and cabbage? In the west there are so many fruit and vegetables we actually don't get. Ok, we do get them, but to source them is difficult unless you know where to look. I'm talking dragonfruit, jackfruit, langsats, longans, etc. Why not have a farm of exotic fruits and vegetables. I might actually take interest in that kind of farming simulator.
I know graphics aren't everything, but if you are going to make a 3D game that is meant to look animated, at least make it look like it belongs in 2020 (or at least something from the past few years).
Looks worse than a PS2 game and looks like it plays like garbage. I'll skip thanks.
Peak half***ing right here. A student could make a better-looking game.
Can't believe some people still defend Natume. They only got away with their sloppy work back in the day because nobody else had wanted to take a chance on the genre, and they messed up DS Cute's coding just to take out an implied lesbian partner mechanic. With much better farm life sims to compete with now like Stardew and My Time at Portia, along with rising awareness of the Story of Seasons/BokuMono situation, I don't see Natsume surviving the next decade.
@Jooles_95 I knew there were name shenanigans but I always forgot what it was all about. Thanks for clarifying it! This game looks bad and I'll be sure to steer clear off it.
The environments look so static and lifeless. Seems like they’d have been better off making a 2D sprite-based game instead.
I hate it when 3D models look like they're walking on soap.
@echoplex literally making me break out in hives....
Maybe the graphics will look better in later trailers, since this trailer said "Game Footage Not Final" in the bottom left corner.
I am getting it and Story of Seasons. I have had a hard time getting into SoS and a much easier time getting into HM.
@PhhhCough Please don't make it your first. Or your last. Or any one in between. Natsume's games are awful. Try the Story of Seasons games or any Harvest Moon game prior to 2014. In other words, anything produced by Marvelous, rather than Natsume.
What are they doing to this franchise. Miss after miss. As a long time fan of the series it saddens me to see it being slowly destroyed with this succession of disappointing titles.
They really don't get it anymore.
This Wii shovel-ware game looks great.
@PhhhCough Please, do yourself a favor and ignore every new game that comes out under the name of Harvest Moon. The original developers are working under the IP od Story of Seasons now. If you want to play a real Harvest moon game, ignore this garbage and pick up Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town, coming to the Switch July 14th.
@StevenH Story of Seasons is the good one, made by Marvelous. Natsume makes ***** games under the classic title.
@StevenH Any Harvest Moon game produced by Marvelous and Story of Seasons are the good ones. If it doesn’t have Marvelous attached, don’t bother.
The Gamecube game looks better than this....wtf.
I laughed when I saw the moving cows.
Going by this footage I guess Natsume are happy with sales of this now subpar series and has no interest in trying to what indies developers have easily bettered now. Even the spin off series Rune Factory has outclassed it.
I went in expecting to be utterly disappointed by the graphics, but instead I'm only half disappointed. That's good, right?
The insides of the barn and the moving cows look terrible, though
Looks like an unfinished mobile game. Come on!
Usually graphics isn't a big determining factor for me, but this looks like absolute garbage.
Looks very unpolished-
But the gameplay does look like they're lifting it off of animal parade which is a favorite of mine... so if it's a decent enough knock off and the bachelors are well written I'll probably buy it. :l
Visually awful. But I'm sure the gameplay will be fine, as usual with the series.
Wow this looks completely soulless
Well this game met my expectations, and they were quite low.
@RPGamer I actually laughed! 😂😂
Thank you very much
The art style is better, but not the graphics themselves or the definite mobile feel. It pretty much looks like Seeds of Memories, and holy woah was that game's interface ugly.
Ya know, I want the HM games to get good, if they're gonna keep making these rip offs, I wish they'd be entertaining enough to fill the gaps between SoS, RF, SDV, etc, but as it is, it feels like such a scam I don't even want to buy one as a time waster.
@Bobb The art style itself is an improvement over the games over the last few years, so it's like, 5% improvement.
@Jooles_95 I learned something new today thanks to you! Kudos!
will it have soom kind of online play?
Looks empty................90% of the world is sand?
The graphics look a bit decent and reminds me of the Wii Harvest Moon games, but since they said it was running on a brand new engine, I expected it to look like anything this:
https://www.mariowiki.com/images/e/e2/MK8-Course-Wii_MooMooMeadows.jpg
Hopefully they will show more soon...
@Jooles_95 I didn't know. Thanks a million. I was really disappointed. Now I'm not. I'll check out Story of Seasons.
@Jooles_95 thank you very much. I've played a lot of HM on the SNES and have really fond memories of that, so I couldn't explain to myself why the newer games where so bad (at least from reviews and trailers). Now I know and will continue to ignore them.
At least it's more of a proper farming game than whatever Mad Dash was?
@Ninfan
Don't think every games must have Online play.
@PhhhCough And after playing it, you still haven't played Harvest Moon.
@frogopus You can't expect anything from this fake series. They aren't even real game developers. They're just using the Harvest Moon name to trick consumers.
@bluemage1989 If you're a long time fan of Harvest Moon, then you need to know that this isn't actually the series you probably loved. I'm not being hyperbolic, I'm being very literal. Marvelous is the developer of the series we know as Harvest Moon. After disagreements with their US translator, Natsume, they fired them and started publishing their series under a different US company. Unfortunately, the name Harvest Moon was a Western-only thing and Natsume owns the NAME. So Marvelous had to rename their long running Harvest Moon series to Story of Seasons in the west. Meanwhile, Natsume, which had never made a game before (they're just a localization company) started trying to make quick cash by hoping they could sell games under the name Harvest Moon and fans would be none the wiser that it wasn't actually the series they loved.
The real series has a new entry coming in July called Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. It's essentially a remake of the Gameboy Advance game, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, which itself was a demake (of sorts) of the PS1/N64 Harvest Moon: Back to Nature/Harvest Moon 64. It's more of a budget title because it's staying MOSTLY true to the GBA game, but they've still added a lot of nice touches, new characters and cute 3D graphics.
It is a million times better than this trashy train wreck using the beloved Harvest Moon name and is only able to stay afloat with games worse than even bad mobile games because a lot of customers still don't know and for whatever reason, most gaming news articles either are written also by people entirely unaware of this fact or that won't report on it.
Also, keep an eye out for Rune Factory 5, which is the next big true sequel Harvest Moon franchise game from Marvelous. It was originally slated for fall this year, but it's looking like because of the pandemic that it's delayed.
@PhhhCough I know a few people have said this, but it's all true. This isn't really a Harvest Moon game in terms of the franchise that's been around for nearly 30 years. Just a cheap knock off that stole the name, essentially. The remake of the real Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, called Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town now after the forced name change (legal reasons) will be out in July. It'll be relatively simple compared to their newest entries because it's a remake of a Gameboy Advance game, but that GBA game is one of the best in the series and has a very charming cast and city that the game is built around. The next major true sequel in the franchise is Rune Factory 5 (basically it's fantasy Harvest Moon with more RPG elements, it's an official spinoff series and it's good) and that's slated for release later this year, though may get delayed.
@Deltath i was aware of this but thanks regardless. I just think its a shame to see the legacy of the Harvest moon name being dragged through the dirt. I am looking forward to Rune Factory 5 although i cant say i am very keen on the Friends of Mineral Town remake, its one of the best entries in the series for sure but can't see past the budgety look for this one.
Oof I really hope this game is still a WIP because the graphics look unfinished, props for them to make people look like people atleast they look better than the friends of mineral town remake.
@PhhhCough Don't bother with new Harvest Moon games. You either want to play the older ones or play the Story of Seasons games. Marvelous and Natsume split a few years ago. Marvelous is what made HM good, but Natsume kept the name.
Am I the only one that thinks this at least looks better than Harvest Moon Light of Hope, the previous game, did?
I really didn't mind Light of Hope. I found it much better than Skytree Village. I haven't played Mad Dash yet. Not sure if it's a fully fledged farming game or just a puzzle game.
I wouldn't deny myself the opportunity to play a game from a genre I like just because of the situation Harvest Moon found itself in. Harvest Moon will only get so far on the name, so it's in Natsume's interests to make a proper game. If their games have traditional farming-sim features, good story and no bugs, why wouldn't want I play it?
@RPGamer
I'm just trying to give (at least) some hope to others.
I've never been a huge fan of Harvest Moon (even before "The Split"), but I still want Harvest Moon to do well, though.
@RPGamer
Thanks. I've always been more of an optimistic person.
Yeah, I get that. Sometimes, companies just struggle for a bit when a major change happens (like a buyout, a restructure, or a split). A good example of that is Sega.
I believe Natsume can make a comeback. As long as they don't start acting like EA, they should be able to bounce back.
@bluemage1989 What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. But really, that's how I look at it. It's still the same series and the old name wasn't the real name of the series in Japan anyway. Story of Seasons is closer to that original name. As far as Friends of Mineral Town.. I agree. I'm not ultra hyped, because it is a lower budget remake, but it also has a lower budget price tag and will hit sales fairly soon, I'd bet.
@BenAV @tzahn @Manah @WillTheLion @ACNHislit @PhhhCough Harvest Moon hasn't actually been Harvest Moon since "A new Beginning" on 3DS circa 2012 . Natsume lost the rights to publish them but kept the localized name and uses it to publish fake games. Actual Harvest Moon games made by Marvelous are now released as "Story of Seasons". If you want a real Harvest Moon game pick up Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town. It launches July 14th. This game is a fake.
@Freddyfred
"It looks like for the Wii"
I wasn't aware Wii was an HD console.
@Zonned I'm well aware of the situation and my comment was one of exasperation that the good name of Harvest Moon continues to be dragged through the mud by these poor quality imitations. Natsume is eroding all the goodwill that was built up over the years. I'll say it again, I kind of hope it becomes such a dumpster fire that they sell the rights to the name and Marvelous is able to acquire it.
@Zonned
I know, but thanks for the info anyways.
All I'm saying is to not give up hope (yet) for Harvest Moon.
Well I for one am looking forward to this. I really got into Light of Hope and loved the 3DS entries - Kind of wish they would bring back the terraforming. I’ve played the SoS games as well but honestly prefer these.
