@DarkTron yes it's the same as the PS5 censored version because Nintendo wasn't allowing an uncensored version in the west unlike PS5. I do not understand what point you're trying to make.
@Friendly I don't think an error occured at all. And I hope you're right and I'm wrong, for what it's worth. Everything, for me points to this being on Nintendo's end. Adhoc should have been more transparent with the release....but we've seen Nintendo trending this way with differing levels of censorship for years. I'm so confused why people are forgetting this. Look at Corpse Party, or Neptunia.
@Friendly yes I know, that's why I was saying to the other poster that this wasn't about adhoc not having enough money to release 2 versions of the Switch releases, since PS had a censored and uncensored version. I could have been more clear in my comment by saying "if money was an issue then Ps5 would have ONLY had one censored version instead of 2 versions."
@MarcusIsCool and you're overreading into my comment and lumping me in with the "Nintendo is bad" just because I'm being critical. I play almost 100 percent of my games on Switch and now Switch 2, so no I'm not in that crowd. What I'm generally confused by, is how so many people are forgetting the articles over the past 3 years with games being denied releases on Switch in the west, or having content changes. PlayStation used to do this in the Switch 1 days, and now it's flipped. This is on Nintendo side, and please don't lump me in the hater crowd.
@siavm probably didn't release it on Xbox because they wouldn't get much of a return on there....not sure who's even buying games there anymore. If this was about not having money for 2 versions, then the PS5 would have had ONLY one censored version like Switch and Switch 2.
@siavm that is total cope and you know it. This has nothing to do with money (unless I'm reading your comment wrong). It has to do with Nintendo being more conservative in what they deem as acceptable on the eshop. It's like how PlayStation was during most of the Switch 1 era. Cyberpunk was an exception , a big name game they needed for launch. They've been trending toward this for years, there's been tons of articles on it. Usually it's been with censorship and or denial of western releases of Japanese games from companies like Compile Heart.
I hope now people realize that the issues here are on Nintendo's side and not Adhoc like they were blamed by everyone. Nintendo has been trending toward this, not allowing games with content adjustments, or full out denying western releases, for the past 3 years. Cyberpunk seems to be an exception. It's a big name game they needed for launch with no controversy. Where adhoc was in the wrong was not being transparent before release about how censored the game was. That is on them
Bummer about all these game keycards. I'm ok with them if it's something like FF7 Remake where the file size is HUGE (especially at only 40 bucks), but not for these much smaller GB size games. As far as going digital goes on these, I'm no longer in a rush to get the games at launch unless I'm absolutely sure I'll want to immediately play and want to keep it forever. With physical I'd buy anything that tickled my fancy at launch, because I'm securing like an archival version of the game, while it's in print, and always sell it later. Now there's no difference when I get it, cuz if I want it, it's on the eshop anytime I want and will prob go on sale. Good example is I own every single Trails related game on Switch and have only played two of them lol. But I didn't buy Trails Beyond the Horizon! No need to.
@dskatter Nintendo has been more strict on content in games I'm the last few years and seem to make exceptions for some games. So much so than Switch games have more censorship than some ps5 games, when it used to be the reverse
I don't think either statement by either company is the full truth. Like, Nintendo's statement is super deceptive. They could in theory refuse to allow a game on their eshop because it has nudity, but not dictate changes. Just not allow it. Then the company has to self censor it or it won't be released. I think adhoc just removed the content toggle, put their hands up in the air and called it a day, and this was something that happened last minute and the game was denied. So yeah in that scenario Nintendo didn't technically make them change content, but the other option was the game not making it on the eshop. I still think, as we've seen reports of for the past 3 years Nintendo has become more conservative with what they are allowing companies to include in their games on the eshop. Cyberpunk was an exception because they needed that for launch. Perfect example, hentai games DID have nudity a few years back on Switch, now they don't. We've seen news articles of games that previously were released on Switch, can no longer get a new version of it. Neptunia games, Corpse party, etc.
I'd give it an 8. Nothing here really surprised me except the size you can build the island too, and the fact they literally have a non-binary option and didn't do generic "body types." Pretty neat! But everything here looked good. Just....I dunno...feels like it's missing something, like being able to visit other islands? Maybe weather events effecting their lives? I've never played one of these before so don't listen to me.
Insane that such an inoffensive game for kids has people so mad in the comments that they're getting banned and comments removed. Good on NoA especially keeping the gay and nonbinary stuff, just casually up front in the Direct, given how weird our country can be about this stuff right now. I mean I'd imagine most of the people in this thread getting banned for being hateful are my fellow americans lol
Was interested but have zero interest now. Nintendo has been heading in this direction for the last few years. Cuz yes some hentai games did have full nudity, but haven't for like 3 years now. I remember a few years ago a developer talking about Nintendo was no longer allowing nudity in their games (I forget which Japanese company it was) and their game was no longer able to be released. I was honestly surprised that Cyberpunk wasn't censored, but I'm sure they didn't want that controversy at launch and CDPR may have not released the game at all. I think some of the issue, for American releases is the leadership in government is incredibly far right, religiously conservative and I think NoA is trying to avoid that "wrong game at the wrong time" moment turning into a political poop storm with things getting banned and stuff and Nintendo being at the center of it. It feels scary over here right now.
They really really really need a General Direct in February, hype for this system is non existent. HOWEVER I am super curious about this, and glad we're getting more info this week, so I ain't personally mad or anything lol
@Ade117 Yeah there is no confirmation even on their site if this is getting a 4k upgrade or 120 mode or anything. Which isn't a stretch to think they'd omit given how they handled Mario Party. Stuffing a bunch of random mini game coop challenges in a game that a lot of us just play as a single player experience just sucks. I want dlc levels for single player. I would have paid much more than 20 for those. According to the Nintendo website it sounds like there is one new course for each koopaling and that's it. The trailer makes it look like you have to find them in old levels to trigger the new one.
@darkswabber that's not the impression I got. I think the Koopalongs will be hiding and jumping around to old levels and you have to look for them. I don't think there are new levels here. Maybe a small new section in an old level, like they showed with Wendy-O Koopa. I'd effin love to be wrong. Edit: went on the Nintendo website and the description does make it sound like there is one new "course" for each Koopalong, but I think you have to find them in old levels to trigger it.
@Willo567 People are weird about Doug Bowser for 2 reasons, one, they are personally offended he wasn't a public personality or "character" like Reggie was willing or asked to be. 2, they associate him with some some of the crappy practices Nintendo began to implement during his tenure. Also it didn't help that he was a nervous public speaker in some settings. Roll it all together and add in he came from EA and people hate him. As for me, I didn't care for him, but it seems weirder to NEED to love presidents and ceos. Also it seemed like Nintendo of Japan asserted more control over NOA versus the Reggie and Iwata era, so I don't blame him for anything really.
@BanjoPickles I don't disagree with most of what you're saying. The paid Switch 2 upgrades and those rereleases, 70 for BotW again with tacked on dlc, Kirby for 80 with tacked on dlc, Mario party for 80 with tacked on dlc replacing spots in the release schedule where a new game would go is absolutely a problem. And it is part of the reason I've been bored. However you commenting this in an article about free upgrades is weird. This is one of the few consumer friendly things they've done, rewards long time consumers, and keeps the games attractive for newer fans to buy. To me the paid rereleases and the free Switch 2 upgrades are 2 different conversations as some of the value proposition with Switch 2 was playing your old catalog better on new hardware
@Coffee-Waffle like I said it's not a waste of money because Nintendo has the money to spend. They are the most cash-on-hand rich company in Japan. It's not a waste of time and does not impact their own game dev time because they source these upgrades out to 3rd parties.
@StarCollector I agree with ya on Xeno games. I tried out XBC2 on Switch 2 launch day and swear it looks worse now, when being forced out as a 4k signal. Like it's not scaling well or something.
@Coffee-Waffle it's not a waste at all. Doing free Switch 2 updates, at best might encourage some people to pick up old games (I grabbed Pokemon Violet for example because of that) and at worst it just increases brand loyalty for those who have the game already and appreciate the gesture from Nintendo or a 3rd party, win-win. And in the case of 1st party free upgrades, they farmed these out to external companies to upgrade them, so it didn't cut into their internal staff resources - sure they had to pay those companies but Nintendo is incredibly cash-rich, meaning literal cash in the bank, not just equity, so they can afford that without it cutting in budgets for game making. You're definitely entitled to your opinion but it feels like you're being weird just to be contrarian or something. Noticed in other comments you're straight up bashing the idea of backward compatibility.
@yohn777 maybe. But I disagree. To comment "I’m not spending $500 for a console that is 75% upscaled games from the previous generation. Thanks, but no thanks.
Why is this becoming the standard?"
Under an article about free updates, seems to be in response to said article. I think you're stretching here bud.
I hope it gets some new levels (I'd pay a bunch of money for them) - I've sunk about 40 hours into this and alongside Trails in the Sky was my favorite game from last year.
@yohn777 the comment he made is in reply to an article about free upgrades for Switch games. How else would one take it? And for transparency I've been pretty bored on Switch 2, but it isn't like these free upgrades were replacing brand new releases in the Switch 2 release schedule.
You got it backwards, it's not a "burden" of legacy on "good enough" games, the legacy is blessing for "good enough" games that would be likely passed over or forgotten. No one would have given two poops about this game if it didn't have a legacy name "attached." Outside of some of the art direction and sound design there is nothing "remarkable" about this game and quite a lot about it that is just kind of boring or frustrating.
Did chatgpt write this article or something, lol, like you're actually making the case for more parts of the game to be locked out thru expensive, limited in supply, physical dlc?
