@sixrings Kinda difficult for me to say if it's better or worse, because i've only used it one time. My Switch 2 was docked to the TV. While my friend was sitting on the couch, a few feet away with his Switch 2, playing in handheld mode.
We played for maybe an hour or so. But our connection worked perfectly with no lag or disconnect at all. I would assume local wireless would be better on Switch 2. Since it has a wi-fi 6 chip. But i've only used it one time with one game, so I don't know if that's much to go on...
Between my LG C1 TV's, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Steam Deck OLED, Switch OLED. I stare at OLED screens every day, so I knew with the Switch 2 lcd display there would be some downgrades. However, with 1080p, 120hz, HDR, VRR, & ALLM. I can't complain too much with the trade off for now.
Besides, I haven't been playing my Switch 2 in handheld mode that much. I've mostly been playing It docked. And when the inevitable Switch 2 OLED releases, then my lcd Switch 2 will stay permanently docked to the TV. Just like I did with og Switch to Switch OLED.
All in all, it's a nice screen and games look, good on in. But the battery life isn't that great. So that's another reason for me to keep it docked. Besides, playing something like Mario Kart World on an OLED display is where games like that truly shine! In my opinion...
@GrailUK Nice! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it! Mario Kart World is so much fun! On an OLED TV, it truly shines. Looks good in handheld mode, too.
I bought Cyberpunk back at launch (PS4) and played through it on my PS5 through bc. Besides the game crashing once every hour or so, it was a decent experience for me. But after years of patches and DLC. I've heard it's a completely different game now, which I'm looking forward to playing on Switch 2 soon!
I never finished Breath of the Wild. Which of course, means I didn't even start Tears of the Kingdom. So I'm looking forward to playing those looking and performing their best on Switch 2. Same as you, those games will keep me busy for a long time!
@GrailUK Haha, I don't have loads of disposable income. Being single without any children helps save a lot of money, or so I have heard, lol.
If you really want one and can save up for it, I suggest getting 1, especially the oled version. It's easily my favorite electronic purchase in recent years!
Were you able to pick up a Switch 2? And if so, what do you think about it so far?
@Paraka umm, slow roll backwards compatibility on PS5? I've had my base PS5 since launch. And it has been backwards compatible with PS4 games (minus 8 or 9 games) since day 1.
@GrailUK Somewhere around 4 million Steam Decks sold. Or maybe that was 4 million total PC handhelds sold combined (Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, ect.)
I love my Steam Deck OLED, but it's definitely a niche product compared to Nintendo systems.
I'm very impressed with the Switch 2 though. So far, especially with the performance improvements to Switch 1 games.
@Raquor Yeah, for all the digital only, game key card releases that come to Switch/Switch 2. If I want to play them on a handheld, I'll get them on Steam for the Deck instead for way cheaper.
It's sad, because my Switch 1 physical collection is huge after 8 years. The way things are going, Switch 2 will mostly be a 1st party machine for me. At least, I'll be saving money, but still...
I'd love to have a proper physical release of FF7R for my shiny new Switch 2, but it's Square Enix. No go for game-key card.
I'll stick with my physical copy for PS5 & download a copy for my Steam Deck OLED to have a portable version. After a price drop of $20 or below on Steam.
Mabey, I'll find a used game-key copy years down the line for cheap, and probably pick it up then...
I purchased a case and tempered glass screen protector from Wal-Mart last minute from some company called ONN (Wal-Mart branded? I don't know) because it would be delivered the following day after my Switch 2 arrived. It's a standard hard-shelled case that can hold a Switch 2, Switch OG, or Switch OLED and 12 game cards.
Just something to hold me over until I order a fancy grip/case. I might go for the Kill Switch case bundle soon. Handheld mode just isn't comfortable for extended gameplay sessions with the the flat design of the Switch 2 system.
@sixrings Unfortunately, no I only have one at the moment (so sad, lol). My sister and my friend both received their Switch 2 systems today. But I haven't been able to test out the local wireless play with them.
With my Switch 1 systems, I only used local wireless play in handheld mode and found that turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc on phones, tablets and any other nearby devices made the local wireless connection a lot more stable. But I never tried it via docked before. I just assumed when you did local play docked, you would have the option to use an ethernet cable between two docks LAN style.
If I'm able to try out local wireless play with my Switch 2. Anytime soon, I'll be sure to let you know how my experience goes. Were you able to pick up a Switch 2 at launch?
Smells like brand new tech to me! I've yet to hear the fan kick in and become loud, even while docked. Mind you, the most demanding game I've played so far is Mario Kart World.
@shgamer RE 6 was the first game I tested on my Switch 2 last night. I was curious if Switch 2 could brute force the game to run at a consistent 60fps (Switch 1 sure doesn't) and in handheld mode (haven't tried docked yet) after playing 5 or 6 games of Mercenaries mode online playing a different map each time. It stayed at a locked (in my eyes) 60fps. The performance difference was night and day.
I still need to try out the campaign and test RE 5. But so far so good! 👍
Yes, I preordered, the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle from GameStop. (April 24th)
No other games, accessories, or memory card until I have the system in my hands.
My order still says it's processing for shipment as of today (Wednesday). The money was taken out of my account last week. And I've been constantly checking for an update since then.
I would assume that the system would be shipped out today. If I have any chance of receiving it by tomorrow.
Edit: My order finally shipped out! Tracking says it will be delivered in 1-3 days. Saturday June 7th at the latest. No more stress. I feel better now.
Gamestop took the money out of my account last week. My order has been "preparing for shipping" since Thursday. Hopefully, it ships out today. It would be nice to have my order delivered on release day!
I talked to my sister yesterday. She has a pre-order placed from Walmart and her order hasn't shipped yet either, but it also hasn't been canceled.
You mean, I will finally be able to play this slideshow of an experience. Without getting a headache, while staring at the screen and wanting to rip my eyeballs out?
Sign me up! Hopefully, now I won't regret purchasing the dual pack. Like I did a few years ago...
@Scollurio Sorry, my response was meant for you. But I accidentally sent it to dskatter instead. I didn't have my morning coffee yet, lol. Which Switch systems do you currently own? If you don't mind me asking? What are you most excited about with Switch 2?
Yeah, none of my family of Switch systems (8 in total) will be going anywhere anytime soon. With the iffy backwards compatibility, high cost and low storage options of micro sd express cards, and lack of OLED display with Switch 2.
Come Thursday my Switch 2 will only be used for upgraded Switch 1 games (Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, ect) native Switch 2 releases, of course and games that come complete on cartridge. (Cyberpunk 2077) I can't forget GameCube games.
Hmm, I don't know. Samsung told me not to remove the protective film from the inner display on my Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Fast forward 2 years later, I think the screen looks more bright and vibrant without the film. Swiping and tapping feels much smoother and more precise without the plastic film covering my screen.
I wonder if it will be the same with Switch 2. I guess I'll find out on Thursday!
@karatekid1612 I feel ya! I'll be eating cup noodles for the month of June 😂😂
Switch 2 MKW bundle, Cyberpunk, Pro Controller 2, micro sd card express, case, and screen protector. I'm done until July! At least the gaming will keep us busy. Happy gaming to you!
To the topic at hand, this accessory seems useful for some things definitely but yeah, two USB-C ports are enough for me. I don't play in tabletop mode very often. But who knows, maybe mouse mode will change that with the Switch 2. Only time will tell.
We all know OLED and lite versions will release within the next few years. Nintendo always has revisions for their handhelds, so that's nothing new.
I'll enjoy my day 1 Switch 2 lcd model until then. Once the OLED releases, it will be my handheld only model, while the lcd will be permanently docked to the TV. Like I did with Switch 1.
Steam Deck OLED kinda put my Switch into an early retirement last year. I came back for a few Exclusives (Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2) and a bit of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to prepare for MKW.
My Switch backlog is massive though, so I have a lifetime of games to get through. But I'll wait and see how some of my og Switch games run on Switch 2 here in a few more weeks!
That's great! I want each and every game to support mouse and gyro controls! In some sort of way. I'm excited to try out the Joy-con 2 on my Steam Deck OLED to really test out the gyro sensors!
Since I've got the bundle pre-ordered, I won't be picking up a physical copy of MKW for a while. I'll hold off for a few years and see if Nintendo drops DLC for Mario Kart and releases a Definitive Edition or something later on before I double dip
I'll never trade in any of my old Switch systems, NEVER. Especially with the iffy, will it play nicely on Switch 2 or not backward compatibility Nintendo is going for.
That and the fact I have a little over 300 physical Switch games. With the higher cost of micro sd express cards, I need to save as much precious storage space as possible for Switch 2 games. Game key cards becoming the norm doesn't help either 😑.
And I'll be there day one to purchase a physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077 to go alongside my Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle.
It's been almost 5 years since I've played Cyberpunk on my launch PS5, and I never played the DLC. I'm excited to experience all of the additional content that's been added since then. And I get to enjoy it all from the comfort of my bed on a handheld!
All of my Switch/Lite/OLED models are in immaculate shape with original packaging. 5 of them being limited edition systems (2 ACNH OG's, TOTK OLED, Splatoon 3 OLED, Pokémon Sword & Shield lite) i could trade in my Turquoise, Yellow, & Grey lite systems since i don't use them at all. But $100 isn't enough.
So I'll wait and see how many of my Switch games run well through backward compatibility on Switch 2. Besides, with this game key card thing looking like it's going to be the standard for most games. I need to keep precious storage space cleared for Switch 2 exclusives.
1080p 60fps in handheld mode is great for Switch 2, and that's the platform I'd prefer to play this on. Unfortunately, since the physical is a game key card version, I'll be picking up a copy for PS5 instead. PS Portal for the win!
I was really looking forward to the RE games coming to Switch 2 with native ports (no cloud nonsense), but unfortunately, I'm sure the physical releases will be game key cards 😕. If so, I'll stick with Steam versions on my Steam Deck OLED for my portable fix and PS5 Pro for TV play. I'd happily like to be proven wrong, Capcom.
How disappointing. I was looking forward to double dipping with the Switch 2 version to show support to the devs. I'll stick with my physical copy for PS5. At this rate, I'll be saving money by skipping this code in a box & game key card crap devs are going for.
I almost didn't get one this morning. Since Gamestop said they were going to open pre-orders at 10 am my time, they started at 9 am instead, lucky for me, I was checking the website, and it kept crashing but I was persistent and stuck with it for about 30 to 45 minutes. I ended up getting a Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World!
My sister was able to secure one last night from Wal-Mart. She wanted the bundle, but I told her to take what she could get.
My birthday is June 2nd, so this is my nice little late b-day gift!
My copy is still sitting on the shelf unopened (PS5). I'll get to it after I finish the Ryza trilogy. A good way to get me to double dip is by releasing a Switch 2 version complete with season pass on cart!
My two LG C1 OLED TV's (77", 48") will do just fine for this Gen and the next. That includes PS6 and the next Xbox. I can't wait to see how the Switch 2 handheld screen looks in person.
I'm not an fps snob or anything, and I never have been. But going from 30fps to 40fps is noticeable. Same with going from 60fps to 120fps. I can still play games at 30fps just fine, but I appreciate the higher frames when available with a decent image quality.
But yeah, I'm really looking forward to playing Mario Kart World & Metroid Prime 4 at 120fps docked and in handheld mode.
It's a decent Animal Crossing game, even though I prefer New Leaf.
I fell off from it after a year or so when I sold my OG Switch to a friend and forgot to transfer my save to one of my other systems first 😑. Thanks for no cloud save, Nintendo.
The ACNH Switch system was so nice, I bought 3 of them.
Since Doom Eternal released the same day 5 years ago and Doom The Dark Ages is around the corner. I'd assume the next animal crossing can't be too far away, right?
And this is exactly why I'm waiting until I get a Switch 2 before I play this game. Same with Metroid Prime 4 and any other late big releases for Switch 1.
Over the past 8 years between Switch, Lite, & the OLED, I've owned 12 Switch systems and sold 4. I'll definitely be keeping my Zelda & Splatoon OLED, both ACNH systems & Pokémon Sword & Shield lite.
I'm curious to see the comparison in screen quality between the OLED and Switch 2 in person.
I'm really excited to see the Switch 2 reveal and launch, but if the launch system doesn't have an OLED display, I'll probably wait for a mid gen refresh before I pick one up.
With my current Switch backlog, Steam Deck OLED, and PS Portal, I'm set at the moment as far as handheld gaming goes.
Either way I'm looking forward to the launch lineup, new Joy Con, Pro controller, ect.

Re: Mario Kart World: How To Access The Hidden LAN Mode Option
Local wireless and LAN gameplay is where it's at!
I've already played local wireless Mario Kart World with a friend. I was on the TV and he was playing in handheld mode. It worked great!
I'll keep this in mind, when I pick up a few extra copies of MKW for the collection!

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'
@sethfranum After 8 years and $150 price increase over the standard Switch, I would hope the LCD screen is better than the 2017 model.
I'm sure the Switch 2 screen will look great, but an LCD screen still can't compare to OLED when it comes to inky blacks and vibrant colors!
I'll compare them side by side on Thursday and judge for myself in person. Thank you very much!
Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'
@dskatter If you are patient enough to wait three or four years for an upgraded OLED version, I'd say, go for it!
I'm getting older too (will be 36 in a few days) but unfortunately, FOMO still affects me. And I'm not a very patient person.
Or maybe I'm just a fool. Who will buy a Switch 2 OLED and lite to go alongside standard Switch 2.
Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'
Yeah, none of my family of Switch systems (8 in total) will be going anywhere anytime soon. With the iffy backwards compatibility, high cost and low storage options of micro sd express cards, and lack of OLED display with Switch 2.

And I'm truly sorry to those affected with canceled pre-orders through GAME.
Re: Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Launches October, Switch 2 Version Confirmed
Game key card? 😑🙄
PS5 version it is! I still need to pick up a copy of DQ3 (PS5) so I'll wait for a discount on this one.
At this rate, most of my multiplats will be purchased for PS5 (physical) or Steam Deck Oled (after a deep discount)
It's starting to look like Switch 2 will be a first party machine only. Which is a shame 😒
Re: Nintendo Gives Us A Closer Look At Switch 2's "All-In-One" Carrying Case
At that price. No thanks. I'll stick with my OG Switch branded backpack, which holds all of the above plus much more.

Plus I can transfer my PS5 Pro version save over to Switch 2! That's icing on an already delicious looking cake! Bring on June 5th!
Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?

Re: Setting The Switch 2 Pro Controller's GL And GR Buttons Looks As Easy As Pie
Back buttons seem kinda pointless at first, but once you get used to them, they are missed when you go back to a controller that doesn't have them.
I don't play any competitive games online, mostly single-player and co-op games. Back buttons can be so useful for pretty much any game.
Dualsense Edge & Elite Series 2 controllers are my current favorites with back buttons.
Steam Deck OLED also.
I'm so happy Nintendo decided to add them to the new Pro Controller 2! Looking forward to picking up a few of these soon!
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Developer Seems Open To A Switch 2 Port
Amazing game! I just finished it on my Series X a few days ago via Game Pass.

Re: PSA: You Can Use Mouse Controls On The Switch 2 HOME Menu

Re: Round Up: Multiple Switch 2 Game Pre-Order Trailers Released

So far the only games I'll be picking up day one for Switch 2 is Mario Kart World & Cyberpunk 2077
Re: Poll: GameStop Offers A Tempting Switch 2 Trade-In Deal, But Is It Really Worth It?
Re: Atlus Reveals 'RAIDOU Remastered' Switch 2 Performance And Resolution
1080p 60fps in handheld mode is great for Switch 2, and that's the platform I'd prefer to play this on. Unfortunately, since the physical is a game key card version, I'll be picking up a copy for PS5 instead. PS Portal for the win!
Re: Resident Evil's Continued Success Makes Us Eager For Switch 2 Ports
I was really looking forward to the RE games coming to Switch 2 with native ports (no cloud nonsense), but unfortunately, I'm sure the physical releases will be game key cards 😕. If so, I'll stick with Steam versions on my Steam Deck OLED for my portable fix and PS5 Pro for TV play. I'd happily like to be proven wrong, Capcom.
Re: Switch 2 "Code-In-A-Box" Physical Game Listing Spotted Online
How disappointing. I was looking forward to double dipping with the Switch 2 version to show support to the devs. I'll stick with my physical copy for PS5. At this rate, I'll be saving money by skipping this code in a box & game key card crap devs are going for.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)
Re: Atelier Yumia Free Update #1 Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
My copy is still sitting on the shelf unopened (PS5). I'll get to it after I finish the Ryza trilogy. A good way to get me to double dip is by releasing a Switch 2 version complete with season pass on cart!
Re: Best 4K TVs For Nintendo Switch 2
My two LG C1 OLED TV's (77", 48") will do just fine for this Gen and the next. That includes PS6 and the next Xbox. I can't wait to see how the Switch 2 handheld screen looks in person.
Re: Mario Kart World Is Reportedly The Smoothest Entry Yet
I'm not an fps snob or anything, and I never have been. But going from 30fps to 40fps is noticeable. Same with going from 60fps to 120fps. I can still play games at 30fps just fine, but I appreciate the higher frames when available with a decent image quality.
But yeah, I'm really looking forward to playing Mario Kart World & Metroid Prime 4 at 120fps docked and in handheld mode.

Re: Anniversary: No, There's Absolutely No Way In Hell Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Five Today
Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
And this is exactly why I'm waiting until I get a Switch 2 before I play this game. Same with Metroid Prime 4 and any other late big releases for Switch 1.
Re: Poll: Will You Trade In Your Switch When Switch 2 Arrives?
Over the past 8 years between Switch, Lite, & the OLED, I've owned 12 Switch systems and sold 4. I'll definitely be keeping my Zelda & Splatoon OLED, both ACNH systems & Pokémon Sword & Shield lite.
I'm curious to see the comparison in screen quality between the OLED and Switch 2 in person.
Re: Critically Acclaimed Survival Horror 'Sorry We're Closed' Comes To Switch Next Month
You had my attention with gyro aiming support!
Added to my Steam wishlist. I'll wait and see if a physical options pops up.
Or I'll play it on Steam Deck OLED instead.
Re: Cult N64 Platformer 'Glover' Finally Gets Switch Release Date
Am I missing something? I've had the physical release from Limited run on my shelf for over a month by now...
Re: Latest 'Switch 2' Rumour Suggests Nintendo Is Preparing For An Enormous Launch
