As we get closer to the end of the year, you might be starting to wonder what there is to look forward to early on in 2021. One game that might be worth revisiting in the month of January is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
This Castlevania tribute has been updated repeatedly since its arrival on the Switch last June, and the next one introduces a Classic Mode. This revives "old-school gameplay" as you fight your way through five levels of demons and take on Gebel's deadly bosses.
As you can see, there's no exact date for this bonus content just yet, but it'll be arriving at some point in January.
This update will follow on from the addition of Bloodless as a playable character at the start of this month. You can view the full patch notes of this particular update in our previous post.
Will you be returning to Bloodstained to try out Classic Mode? Let us know in the comments.

Wow that's a nifty looking update and seems even cooler than a playable character.
I will eventually, still playing Hades. Only had it for 3 days and it's my GOTY.
Seriously love the franchise. Just beat CotM2 tonight, playing through for a good ending now
I'm honestly interested in anything they add to this game. I really love it.
That's cool that they actually designed new areas for this mode.
That's like the one thing they never do for bonus modes, barring the corridor design of boss-rush mode.
If they did it properly and actually built a functional Classicvania mode with proper linear level design, I might just repurchase this on Switch. As it currently stands, Curse of the Moon is still my favorite Bloodstained title.
The randomizer has me coming back to this constantly as it is so I'll definitely be trying this out!
That’s very, very cool. I tried playing the original Castlevania a while back and couldn’t make it past level 4 though 😂
Nice to see this get more love than Konami did with Castlevania by releasing a mobile game and then shutting it down less than a year later.
This game keeps getting better.
Neato! Might have to boot this up again next month.
I was hoping this would be a mode to play with 16bit graphics.
Man i really wish they would have this game with beautiful sprites and right controls a'la SOTN.
Anybody played the Record of Lodoss War Deedlit game on pc? Her animation looks just like d Alucard and it's beautiful!
How does this game run on Switch now? There were lots of complaints at launch and I never picked it up as it hit Xbox Game Pass. Is it worth getting on Switch now?
Now there's an update I'm looking forward to!
@MysteryCupofJoe yes, it keeps getting slightly better but should have been made properly on release!
Looks awesome, and the little teaser also shows off the most terrifying enemy in the Castlevania franchise- stairs.
Hi guys - how are the un-docked visuals now? Are they sharp - or blurry?
I still have plenty do to in the main game. Dunno about classic modes - tried the Julius one after finishing Dawn of Sorrow but it doesn't seem to hook me much. I have truly long come to like my Castlevanias with loot and custom skills and upgradeable stats.
Did they ever get the Switch version of this up to the standard of the other consoles?
@Dezzy No. And they never will. But the Switch version has had its rougher edges evened out for the most part.
@Ralizah
Can you be more specific? What are the remaining differences?
@BionicDodo @Dezzy
The Switch version is on par with the other consoles. I own it on PS4 as well as Switch.
@Dezzy It's still 30fps, still has some stress points that make the game run worse, still runs at a lowish resolution, and is still missing visual effects present in other versions of the games.
@Kalmaro
Yeah man, Hades is phenomenal. It's criminal that it was overlooked for Game of the Year by those garbage game awards.
@konbinilife I've seen that Lodoss War game. Yeah, it's obvious they did Deedlit's animation based off of Alucard, and that's a good thing. I think it looks really appealing in motion and I've always liked the character.
I love that walking animation that makes Miriam look stiff like Simon and Richter in Smash Ultimate (and, of course, the classic 2D Castlevania)
@Dezzy I haven't played Bloodstained on other systems, but on switch there is slight but noticeable and annoying input lag. Even in handheld.
Rocket League is ruined by input lag on switch.
Not every game has it of course, so there must be some trick in development that they're missing.
@konbinilife
I don't notice input lag in Rocket League at all!
@Dezzy have you played it on PC?
had I played it first on Switch, and never on another platform I might have been ok with it...
But if you play on PC, then immediately on Switch, the difference in input lag is staggering.
@konbinilife
Nope just consoles. I don't notice any difference between different consoles.
