Capcom has announced a special broadcast about its upcoming Switch exclusive Monster Hunter Rise. Fresh information about the game — which is scheduled to arrive on 26th March — will come as part of a digital event to be broadcast on Thursday 7th January 2021 at 6:00 PT / 9:00 ET / 14:00 GMT / 15:00 CET.
According to Capcom's website, the presentation will include "details on the Monster Hunter Rise demo, the debut of a new trailer, game details and more!", so you'll want to clear some time on Thursday if you're a fan of the series.
The broadcast — which is a Capcom-hosted event and not a Nintendo Direct presentation — will be available to stream at the usual places, including the Monster Hunter Twitch channel.
Let us know below if you're excited for this broadcast.

Can't say that I'm too excited to learn more about a game I'm already committed to buying so not sure if I'll bother watching the presentation or playing the demo but I'm looking forward to getting the game when it comes out.
Usually not really interested in Monster Hunter streams but I'm definitely going to watch this, actually kind of looking forward to the demo thanks to a few people here who convinced me! You know who you are.
Not watching, I'm already buying the game and any more info will just make the wait harder.
Hopefully the demo is released "shortly after the presentation".
I'm really hoping the demo is good as I want to love this game.
Finally! Though I'm not sure if this'll make the wait easier or more bearable lol.
Edit: @JaxonH must be AFK. I'm surprised they haven't shown up yet lol.
Now how long will this take to drain my switch's battery.........
I'm on the "not too thrilled by this, I'm getting the game anyways" wagon. I've been consistently not watching any of their weapons or palamute footage. At this point, I'd rather be surprised when playing the game itself.
On the topic of reveals, I'm guessing new weapon, but maybe it's just a new monster
@JaxonH come out of hiding! Time for the blitzkrieg prelude.
Come on demo drop!
Well this could be a make or break for this game!
I’m already ****** that Khezu made the cut!
Oh
Hell
Yeah!
Really hope the demo drops after the presentation.
Demo seems likely to drop after the presentation. I'm ready!
@BenAV I’m the complete opposite. Like if Nintendo decided to drop 30 trailers of BOTW2 from now until it releases I would definitely watch all of them multiple times. Even though I know it would be better to have less spoiled for me, I have no self control.
I recently purchased Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and have been having a blast with it so far! I am definitely intrigued by this announcement and will be tuning in.
Really excited for this!
@meeto_1 Haha. I used to be like that. I'd pay attention to every little detail and count down the days until launch. In recent years though I've gotten into the habit of mostly ignoring upcoming releases until they're out and just focusing my on the games that I already own. Having so many games I that I really want to play at any given time certainly helps to make the wait easier.
I've not payed much attention to their recent videos, since I'm planning on buying the game regardless. That way, the new things are more of a surprise once I get the game.
With that said, I'm not one to say no to a livestream or a demo.
Awesome. Hoping that 11/8 demo leak remains true (or false if it comes out 11/7 instead)
@theJGG
The time has come.
Rise, my friend, and lay hold of that which has been given us.
I am hoping for an "Demo available NOW!" announcement.
I wonder if there'll be any subtle hints at a switch pro in the broadcast. Like say the demo runs at 30fps most of the time but the full release could have a 60fps option?
Hopefully a demo drops at that time.
That being said, new players should be warned that MH demos are notoriously bad for new players. The series completely depends on the gameplay loop of crafting equipment to fight monsters to get parts to craft better equipment. Throwing a newbie into a fight doesn’t do the game justice and is disorienting. You’re using armor you haven’t crafted and likely don’t know the skills of and a weapon you haven’t practiced. Most MH games start with non combat quests to teach the basics and training quests where you can practice the weapon in a stress free environment. And they start you fighting small monsters before large ones. The easiest monster in the demo still likely will be from hours in. So, to new players, if the demo feels clunky or overly punishing, know that doesn’t reflect on the game itself, you’re being thrown into a part where you should already have had time to acclimate to the system.
I started with 3U and HATED the demo. Friend encouraged me to buy anyways and I loved the game. MH just doesn’t demo well. The main reason most fans get excited for the demos are they’re used to the mechanics (and it essentially is like an arena fight from the games, where you use preset equipment). These demos tend to be for the existing fans, to showcase the changes to the series, less for new fans.
You’re only seeing part of the gameplay loop. You’re not getting to use your hard earned rewards to make weapons and armor, customizing your skills, and creating a build that tailors to your okay style.
I haven't gotten around to preordering yet, but I'll tune in for sure. Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii and Wii U were my first real MH games and a lot of fun, so I'm confident Rise will be well worth the purchase.
The preview tomorrow will have a few spoilers and will make the wait feel longer, but I'm too intrigued to skip! I most definitely will play a demo version too, to get a feel for it and shake off the rust.
And maybe I can craft a halfway decent bowgun this time, or actually play online with other people!
@JaxonH So you did show up! I was getting a little worried.
@ShadJV I learned that the hard way unfortunately. I was burned by the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 3DS demo. It killed any interest I had in the series until I played the Monster Hunter Stories spin-off a couple years ago. I'm willing to give Rise a chance; I like a lot of what I've seen of the game so far, and it seems more beginner-friendly. A certain someone tagged above has also helped my interest level.
@Tyranexx definitely give it a chance beyond a demo. I haven’t played a single MH demo that was beginner friendly. I think the only way that would be achievable would be to have it just be the first 5-10 quests of the game with data transferring to the full game. To understand the appeal of MH you need the full gameplay loop, not just 2-3 random battles. I don’t get why Capcom doesn’t understand that more.
I can guarantee I hated the 3U demo too but loved the game. I’ve come to appreciate these demos because they let me try out new mechanics, but that’s only because I have an underlying understanding of the gameplay loop and I know how the weapons work. Just don’t be put off if the demo is a hard sell again, that’s all!
@Tyranexx
I will move heaven and earth to open the eyes of the rookie hunters and help them achieve the greatness they were meant for.
Best way to learn is by hunting with others who can show you the ropes. When the demo drops, dont hesitate to @ me if you want a hunting partner. Hunting in pairs is a ton of fun. Hunting in full packs of 4 is great too.
Once you experience the exhilarating thrill of the chase, hunting a monster down, tracking it across the world and battling it in an epic showdown, no other game will satisfy providing that same dopamine rush. It's like chasing the dragon (except, without all the opium dens and longpipes).
We're about to make a warrior out of you.
Gonna see what they talk about for Rise, the non-exclusive multiplatform game.
Ugh, I'm just ready for the demo, I want to see the new Flooded Forest, it's gonna be so weird and awesome exploring an old map remade without the loading areas. lol
@ShadJV From what you describe, that would make more sense for Capcom to do; the full gameplay loop would've worked wonders for me, I think. I felt like i was dropped into the deep end without knowing how to swim. And the underwater combat in that demo was very clunky IIRC. It felt slow and didn't really explain things well. Demos were a novelty for me at the time, outside of store units I'd never been exposed to them much. The Fire Emblem Awakening demo is what drew me into the series as a whole. I really wish more demos were formatted to give you a taste of about everything, not just a select subset of mechanics.
I don't believe I'll be put off again this time; I intend to give the demo a fair shake when I get around to downloading it. Though it might be hard to tear me away from BotW until I need a brief break.
@JaxonH Duly noted, thanks! I'll certainly keep you in mind when I do pick up the demo, and if it allows for online multiplayer. I should be finally setting up a NSO sub soon, so that will no longer be a problem.
@Tyranexx the underwater combat was clunky in the main game too. A majority of fans didn’t like it, which is why it never returned. The series definitely has had some QoL improvements but yeah... I wish Capcom would just take the “play the beginning and transfer saves” approach here. Probably no series needs it as much as MH.
Either way, I hope you enjoy it! I always welcome new hunters to the series!
"Can you dig iiiit?"
@ShadJV Wasn't one of the demos from at least one of the games simply the start of the game with a save file that you could transfer over to the full game? I was expecting that for this one anyway but now I'm not sure.
@JaxonH I can't help but love and admire your passion for this series and your willingness to help new hunters. Hope I don't sound too mushy saying this but you're one gem of a hunter! Thank you on behalf of all us rookie hunters.
@Yosher unless you’re referring to Stories (which was a spin-off turn based RPG and nothing like the mainline games), no, none of the demos were. They’ve all been between 2 and 4 monsters. Pick your weapon, fight a monster, usually with multiplayer options. That’s it.
@ShadJV I could've sworn at least one of the main monster hunter demos was like that... guess I was wrong. Oh well, I'll still try the demo but with tempered expectations, thank you!
@Yosher
Appreciate that. I think you'll find the Monster Hunter community the most amazing in all of gaming. It's a very special community. I mean, it's not perfect. World's popularity drew in a bunch of toxic people, and there were always a few elitists even back in MH3U, but the overwhelming majority are good people who truly want to help others get into the series.
I think this is rooted in the fact that, for many years, Monster Hunter wasnt really popular in the west. It was a phenomenon in Japan, but in the west it was just another overlooked series most people never heard or cared about. The ones who were into it knew how incredible it was, and you know how it is when you discover an amazing masterpiece- you want to shout it from the rooftops and tell the world! Unfortunately, the game was incredibly obtuse for newcomers with a notoriously high barrier of entry. I can't think of a single game that was so difficult to get a new player into.
And that meant getting new players into the series was a constant uphill battle. Every time a new game would come out, veteran hunters would declare how amazing it is, so people would try it, and 9 out of 10 would come away saying "it feels clunky" and giving up on it. From the perspective of a community trying to convince everyone else how amazing it is, it's been rough for MH fans.
As a result, the only way we could really get people into the series was help them. Show them the ropes, assist them in overcoming the barriers of entry, hunt with them online, etc. And when a new player did finally get far enough in for it to click, where suddenly they're screaming about how amazing it is, it felt like a million dollars. I believe this is why the community is so friendly and willing to help newcomers. It was born out of necessity due to the archaic design of older titles with respect to teaching the player how to play the game. MH has always been a masterpiece- the single greatest video game franchise of all time imo, but they were always designed as if the player was already a vet, without a thought in the world for proper tutorials or easing new players into it.
As for the demo, they always offer 3 hunts- easy, medium and hard. You use a preset armor build and weapon, and just choose which weapon type to use and start the quest. So it doesnt do much to teach new players. The full game will do much more to ease you into things, and will have a training area to practice combos, etc. But the demo can still give you a taste of the action. But you'll have to learn through experience. Find a weapon you like (long sword or dual blades are great beginner weapons) and watch a quick Gaijin Hunter tutorial on YouTube for the weapon you like most to learn basic combos. Then hunt a few times and just learn through experience. Hunt online to learn through observation.
@ShadJV Thanks! I'm looking forward to jumping in! Not quite sure if I'll grab the game at launch, but hopefully around that time lol.
Apparently the Japanese Twitter account confirmed that we’ll find out the exact date for the demo. Pretty keen

Will be sweet if they release the Demo the same day. Would be a long shot but I would be super hyped if they held out to reveal Tonfa or Prowler Mode. Guess I can dream though...
