One of the many upcoming titles we're looking forward to in the new year is Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. In case you forgot, this 'Summer 2021' game will be launched in the West exclusively on the Switch, while in Japan, it'll be getting a PlayStation 4 release, too.
To build up some excitment ahead of the game's release, Famitsu's YouTube channel has now uploaded a new gameplay video. As short as it is, there's a look at the Disgaea mascot Prinny performing a powerful attack, along with the game's battle mechanics.
NIS America is also giving fans located in America and Canada the chance to win a one-of-a-kind Switch Pro Controller featuring some lovely custom artwork. It also comes with a copy of the game. This contest, as noted below, will end on 31st January, so be sure to join in while you can.
Will you be adding Disgaea 6 to your Switch collection when it's released? Leave a comment down below.

Yo that controller looks so sick! I totes entered!
@JR150 Not so fast! That controller shall be mine!
Entered. Don't expect to win, but that controller is sweet.
Entered, I won't win but whatever, getting the game either way.
Man europe always gets shorthanded.
Not talking bout the UK
NIS America is also giving fans located in North America and Canada the chance to win...
@Liam_Doolan North America and Canada? We didn't vote to Leave our continent, you're thinking of the UK...
@Ralizah Until the 31st of January, we are enemies.
Sorry.
@COVIDberry Oops, a funny mistake... fixed!
Disgaea 2 & 3 still need to come over as well.
@Link41x And Disgaea D2 as well, which, to my knowledge, is still a PS3 exclusive.
@COVIDberry May the luckiest person win!
As a newcomer to this franchise, which game should I start with? I understand that 1, 4 and 5 is already on Switch.
Seeing some cute character designs here
@Quarth The first one is probably still my favorite. Very charming game. The games are pretty samey gameplay wise so if not the original I'd go with the most modern one you can. Each game has a unique story and characters, so you don't need to play all of them to understand the story.
@Aerona Thanks! Are there quality of life changes in later games that makes the first one harder to recommend?
@Quarth You'll never complete any of them. So much levelling and grinding is possible if you like that sort of thing. D1 is the classic story but D5 is the most recent until now. The core gameplay is largely unchanged between each though.
@riChchestM Thanks! I don't mind grinding as long as the gameplay is fun.
@Quarth These have grinding within grinding within grinding to the level of an artform. Defeat mobs to level up your team, get their loot, travel inside the loot, level up your team while levelling up the loot by defeating specialists inside the loot and clearing 5 levels at a time and getting even more loot. Use the specialists to add properties to the loot. Hit bigger mobs with the upgraded loot.
@Quarth Not as far as I can remember. If you jump from 1 to 5 I'm sure you'll notice some quality of life stuff, but each new game adds very incremental changes. I'd have believed anyone who said that Disgaea 6 gameplay up there was actually 5 for example
Come on, baby! Daddy needs a new pro controller lol
It's a cool pro controller. Too bad if it's really one of a kind you probably shouldn't open it.
Eh, why not. Entered.
@riChchestM Sounds grindy, but fun!
@Aerona OK, thanks! As far as I understand, most seems to think that 1 has the best story and 5 the best gameplay. Is the Switch remaster of 1 good compared to the original? Might go with 5 otherwise.
You people are fools, that controller is mine.
I didn't know this was under development. Are those cell shaded 3D models? Finally! I wasn't too keen on the HD sprites. I really enjoyed the og Disgaea 1 and 2. Maybe I'll come back to the series on 6
I can't wait for the new game. Been a Disgaea fan since the first one and never miss a title.
I usually pre order the physical copy with the book, but with Gamestop's shutting down all over the USA, I'm a bit leary on pre ordering too early in case the store closes.
