Don't you just get so disappointed when you're eating ramen, but it doesn't represent your favourite hobby: playing video games and chugging soda? No? Well, Twitter user @huynasaur apparently does, and rectified that oversight with a barf-inducing Christmas meal made with plenty of original flavour Mountain Dew, the tropical-flavoured "Baja Blast" variant, and Nacho Cheese Doritos-flavoured noodles.
You may be asking "why" right now, and we don't blame you, but Huy simply states that it was "pretty delicious" and that they made it "for all the gamers out there", and leaves it at that.
Colour and dubious flavour aside, though, the preparation and attention to detail that went into this ramen - as described by Huy in a Twitter thread - is downright impressive. Over on Huy's Instagram, you can see that they're pretty dedicated to ramen, and this gamer stunt is just the latest in a line of much more edible-looking ramen dishes.
The dashi (a fishy soup base) was made by soaking kombu (a type of seaweed) in Baja Blast, a concoction Huy calls "Mountain Dewshi". The shio tare (a seasoning sauce) and the broth were both made as standard, and not to gamer specifications, but the ajitama (marinated eggs) were placed in a container with more Mountain Dew, some sake, and mirin, turning them an unappetising green.
Topped with chashu (braised pork belly), pickled daikon, and a whole heaping dose of gamer pride, this green-and-orange dish probably won't be making it to restaurants near you. At least, we hope.
Would you eat this ramen? Do you think it actually makes you better at gaming? Let us know your thoughts down below, but remember: we neither made this, nor do we condone this violence against food. We like our eggs egg-coloured, thanks.

It looks like earthworms...
Oh I don’t feel so good.... that is worse than sonic curry.
That’s absolutely f****ing disgraceful. I actually feel sick looking at it. The actual state of that. Looks like my dog’s boke.
This is nasty but I want to know how he made those noodles.
Looks vile!
Much prefer normal ramen!
@Kieroni seems like they're just regular noodles, flavoured with nacho cheese powder. There's a lot more details if you fancy squinting at the notes they made: https://twitter.com/huynasaur/status/1343327463338733568
Where does this idea that gamers eat Doritos and drink soda come from?
I'm washing my hands before I even use my controller so eating is out of the question.
Definitely sticking with normal ramen and slightly less synthetic food
I mean... ramen was invented in Japan, the country every nerd aspires to someday visit (and where all our favorite video games come from), so I think the simple act of eating regular ramen in and of itself represents my hobbies and interests just fine, lol.
@Kimyonaakuma No idea but its been part of the American zeitgeist for well over a decade now. I remember back in 2008 when I worked at target they put out an end cap for the latest CoD and put bags of doritos and cases of mountain dew right next to new copies of the game.
Look, I get it, spicy flavors and lime work well in savory ramen, but this is not even close to a good idea.
I'll stick with having Doritos and Mountain Dew separately, thank you very much
Mountain Dew was not chosen as the beverage of gamers, it just declared itself so, and no one had the courage needed to band together and reject this notion.
Doritos, tho...
@Kimyonaakuma it was really big in marketing pushes in the early 2000’s in America ( I’m sure in other places as well) and has stuck as an unfortunate stereotype. I remember having to pass out halo 3 themed mountain dew and monster drinks during the midnight launch. But it’s not like junk food companies haven’t tried to latch onto gamer culture before.
Pepsiman anyone? Or Sneak King?
@Ryu_Niiyama Sneak King was good and I will forever defend that game. Where’s the remaster 😂
gags No thank you.
So cool that someone recreated Dubious Food from Breath of the Wild!
While I'm up for trying most dishes out there, this swiftly goes into NOPE territory. I could stand the nacho-flavored ramen, but soaking it all in Mountain Dew? No thanks. I'm not going anywhere near food that implements that chemical hazard.
@Not_Soos hardly any ofmine come Japan.
Lol at all these food snobs.
@Kimyonaakuma it's very American! I propose that the UK equivalent would be Jaffa Cakes and tea, which is much less sordid and sticky.
@nessisonett it was the best of the 3.
Grim. Utterly grim.
Honestly, I would give this a shot, if they would make gluten free noodles since I can't eat regular ramen. This is not like some kid just ground up Doritos to make noodles and poured them into some Mountain Dew, this is a chef using some novel ingredients to flavor a traditional meal. I've seen people cooking with Coke and Sprite (Coke is a really common ingredient in barbecue sauce). This isn't all that different.
This is the kind of thing that you might see Anthony Bourdain digging into with relish in Parts Unknown, and probably washing it down with some local vodka or sake.
This sounds like the worst ramen ever. Also, how did doritos and mountain dew become the official thing for people who play video games?
@Euler you mean Ga'gh that Klingons eat? xD
@JasmineDragon I don't eat meat or fish, but i wouldn't mind giving it a try if it were 100% vegetarian
This is exactly the food link prepares in breath of the wild
I’d much rather prefer an experiment with something vibrant like Sunkist, or one of the Fantas than Dew. I don’t even drink Dew if it’s the last soda choice. It’s not even visually stunning. But Doritos and Dew official gamer noms? Really?!
@Natsura That's the spirit! Food should be an adventure. Try everything once, is my philosophy. I've seen a lot of dishes that sound like they should be revolting but are actually fantastic. I mean, almost every culture has some traditional foods that sound awful to someone not from that culture. This is decidedly untraditional, but it could be delicious.
The mere thought of this is sickening in nearly every conceivable way. I can't even fap to this.
Dubious food from botw realised
Not even Link would eat that, and he knows all about dubious food
@JasmineDragon Exactly! I believe we should all be like humans from Star Trek. You don't see many humans vomitting at the sight of Ga'gh~! Afterall it might like gross, but who knows... maybe it actually tastes rather good.
@JasmineDragon I think the Doritos noodles might be okay, actually. Cheese and spices have found their way to ramen. Cheese, not so often, but it has precedence.
I'm more concerned about the Mountain Dew. That won't work no matter how that's done. A limp hint, adding carbonation to the broth, failing to substitute the lime — none of those would work well. And that's not even what they did. They soaked the egg and the seaweed (barf) in Mountain Dew.
I mean, I'd TRY it... it's either going to be edible (possibly really tasty) or not. There are some concoctions that may SOUND gross, but the end result MAY be something nice.... like.. a cake made of mayonnaise sounds dreadful to many people, but when you break it down, it's just oil and eggs that you woud've added to a cake, anyways.... now, I know that example isn't quite the same because there isn't anything here that the Mountain Dew brings to the table in terms of ingredient substitute, but the end result might prove to be something delicious.... then again... 😅😅😅
Stick to the Samyang buldak ramen, peeps. I know I will. 🍜
I don’t think min min would be brave enough to stock this...
I wouldn't even get in the same room as these ramens. They look radioactive. Also the ramen for gamers is called either hot pocket, pizza, any junk food that comes in a bag or a box, simply ramens or instant noodles. Also when I used to pull all nighters on mmorpgs, vodka, rum, whisky and beer were acceptable food
I'll take 5, please
What is this myth that because you are a gamer you eat weird flavoured crap food? The amount of effort that went into making that you could probably make a proper meal that isn't full of sugar. Plus it looks discusting.
Please don't insult ramen like that.
There are better ways of getting fish bait.
@Xiovanni Not all Gamers. I rarely eat Doritos and I never touch Mountain Dew. It's Popcorn and Tea for me, Thank you very much!
No Thank you if you bring that to a gaming season I will kick you out.
Thanks, I prefer to pour Mountain Dew in a bathtub, nothing better than enjoying fizzy bubbles while playing Super Mario Odyssey.
Thanks. I hate it.
Absolutely disgusting.
Okay, color aside, I trust that it was tasty. I've actually used soda in my food before. specifically, it's very sugary nature is great for caramelizing onions. After reading the preparation specifications, yeah I can imagine this tasting quite good.
@JedRock Agreed. I suppose the closest ingredient alternative would be sugar. I've made pumpkin spice Indian Masala before, it sounds awful but ended up complementing the taste quite well.
@Chlocean not to mention that a lot of "DIFFERENT" recipes SOUND dreadful because it's outside of what would be the norm, but think of something like fries or onion rings in a burger... I've been doing something like that since I was a child, and now they sell that at burger joints like it's a delicacy.... or even something like eating sushi... back several years ago, to a lot of westerners, the concept of eating raw fish was a squeemish concept, but now you see a sushi restaurant at every other shopping plaza... well, at least here in the US, at least.... so yea, I think it's something worth trying... and if it is indeed gross, well then, guess we know not to eat it.
I also think a lot of this is psychological, too. Like, if the food were a "normal" color and there was no mention of what the ingredients were and it ended up tasting good (and safe to consume), then what does it matter what was used to make the recipe?
I do not like green eggs and dew.
I would like to share that decaf earl grey tea is my drink xxx
Eww. That's so gross. XQ
@Tyranexx It sure looks like a chemical hazard.
Firstly: eww
Secondly:
Guys please stop perpetuating the "Gamer" stereotype it casts a bad look on all the Tetris, Picross, SIms, ACNH, PTUFO, and the people who play them
