Re: "This Just Didn't Fit Into My Gaming Lifestyle" - Hideki Kamiya Isn't Happy About Switch 2's Lack Of A D-Pad

Coxula

Not meant as a big rant but Nintendo sometimes doesn't see what their audience wants/needs. Meant completely serious. It's my conviction that they live in their own bubble and sometimes forget to look outside.
This has Pros and Cons.
On the Pro side: If you don't look outside you're safe of being influenced by the vocal mayority and able to do your own thing.
On the Con-side stand things like Game Key Cards, Mouse Mode (it doesn't hurt, but seriously: WHO needs this?), the desaster with the Virtual Game Cards (we have three accounts and consoles in our household and it's pure chaos where everything was fine before), no OLED and... having no D-Pad.
I mean: No D-Pad. Who decides something like that? On top I think the D-Pad on the Pro Controller is nearly unusable. I'm not just talking. I tried it (playing mostly Turn Based Tactical Games). So games that want a proper D-Pad have to be played a) docked AND b) with a 8BitDo (fill in a different company if you want - but you're wrong then ) Pro1/2/+ Controller.

Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Switch) - Still Out Of This World

Coxula

I don't care about the price. Really. I have them both on Wii, I have All-Stars and now I'll trouble-dip (pun intended). Why? Because I can and Nintendo deserves all my money for Galaxy 1 alone (I liked it more then 2 back in the days).
Galaxy 1 for me is simply one of the three best video games ever. And if you ask what the other 2 are? I can't tell. I just don't want to exaggerate.
Bringing those 2 in 4K and as a physical bundle is nothing less then a wet dream for me.

Re: Pokémon's Former Chief Legal Officer Believes Nintendo's Latest Patent Will Be Ignored

Coxula

@Medic_alert I wasn't 100% right. That's why I deleted my post. Even for Copyright you need a certain amount of "Schöpfungshöhe" (I really can't translate this - best is maybe "level of creativity" or, yeah "level of thought"). You'll have to rhyme the rhyme well. But you automatically have the copyright if this is fulfilled (which - in case - is very subjective, obviously).
A patent, on the other hand, must always be applied for.

Re: Pokémon's Former Chief Legal Officer Believes Nintendo's Latest Patent Will Be Ignored

Coxula

In Germany something has to have a minimum level of creativity to be worth to GET a patent at all. The level of creativity refers to the degree of creative contribution that a work must have in order to enjoy copyright protection.
Pretty shure "summoning something" (e.g. a creature) in a videogame does not fulfill that minimum level of creativity.
My 1st thought when reading this article:
Shut up and go programming video games, Nintendo!

Re: Review: 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller - Ultimate? No, But 'Decent' Doesn't Have The Same Ring

Coxula

Bought the Ultimate 2 (Bluetooth) for the 1st time because I absolutely love the SN30 pro+ and Pro2 Controllers (not only for having the best D-Pads I've ever played with) and wanted to try something different.
Two things I didn't read in the article above:

  • Reaching L1 and R1 Buttons are a bit of a mess for my fingers (well... might be just mine). Feeling they are a bit too high. This issue has to do with the form factor of the controller. Holding the Ultimate 2 comfy in my hands I have to stretch my index fingers a bit too much to reach the buttons.
  • Don't know if it's an "Ultimate" thingy, but the batteries are not replaceable like with the SN30 pro+ and the Pro2. That's something I'd expect from a 3rd party controller (at this price range at least). I hope Pro3 has replaceable batteries (I already preordered it without looking at this issue).

Re: Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition Brings Match-3 RPG Fun To Switch This Month

Coxula

@Burning_Spear Moving Gems and time it needs to refill the board after a match or a cascade of matches. Just overall speed IN the game. Not loading times, performance hickups, something like this.
Bc. we talked about the game I played it again today for 2 hours or so. It's not horrible. It's just... when you come from Gems of War with 4 times speed setting it just doesn't feel like being the right tempo (just like GoW with 1x speed setting).
You might want to ignore my critics. It's a very subjective thing. It's a great game. But I will not double dip if I see in game videos they didn't improve the speed. In a game where you sink dozens of hours things like that cost a LOT of time.

Re: Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition Brings Match-3 RPG Fun To Switch This Month

Coxula

@Burning_Spear I'm not talking about performance. I'm talking about the speed the Gems drop. It's MUCH too slow (I mean: not only "just a bit") and you can't speed it up (like in Gems of War where you can set the speed up to x4 in the game options).
Puzzle Quest is a great game. The best 3-match game I have seen so far. I played it hundreds of hours on the DS. And the remake on Switch isn't worse then the original. It's just I can't play it because my brain is aching because of this "issue".
It would be sooo easy to patch, but I think they didn't.
Might be only me. For everyone interested there's a Demo for the game.
I wonder what the Devs do with the Immortal Edition for people that already have The Legend Returns. I mean... 4K graphics and 1 more class are hardly a sales pitch.

Re: Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition Brings Match-3 RPG Fun To Switch This Month

Coxula

The problem with the existing version on Switch (which is a remake from the original version on DS) really is speed. Stones drop like in slow motion. Which might be the original speed like on DS but is completely out of time and kept me from playing it.
People interested: Don't trap in the Gems of War trap nowadays. I actively played this "Life Service Game" for 6 years or so actively. But it got worse and worse over the years and is dead now. It's very sad because the game was really great back in the days.

Re: Nintendo Will Discontinue Switch Game Vouchers Entirely In 2026

Coxula

@darylb24 The thing is: I didn't even take a look at other consoles then Nintendo's in the past. Never. (I'm over 50 years old - so I would have had the time if I wanted to. )
I didn't expect that to happen. And it's not necessarily because I don't like the Switch 2 or because it's not very innovative. It's because Nintendo is changing. At this very moment. They transform from something special to something very normal.
People don't have to dislike this. But I do - from the bottom of my heart.

Re: Nintendo Will Discontinue Switch Game Vouchers Entirely In 2026

Coxula

33% price increase on games, no more Gold Points, no more vouchers, the abysmal Virtual Game Card System, the totally unnecessary Game Key Cards, using the same Drift Sticks with the new console knowing exactly the problems they have,...
This is no joke, no exaggeration: This is the 1st time of my life I think of buying a Playstation. This is not my Nintendo anymore where gamers always were 1st place.
I'm not angry. I'm sad.

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

Coxula

I can ignore Game Key Cards completely (and I do) but what I can't ignore is the super annoying Virtual Game Card system Nintendo introduced. THIS is really punishing customers for no reason. I have Day 1 Switch 1, OLED Switch 1 and Day 1 Switch 2 and I'm using them all (my household at least) and this system is just a pain where the sun not shines.
This had to be said because nobody seems to complain but me. I call me a Nintendo fanboy since decades (yes - I'm a bit old) but the direction the company moves does worry me indeed. (Price bump of 33% (talking about games not hardware), Virtual Game Cards, Game Key Cards, back to LCD from OLED (display is OKisch but just compare with your OLED and everybody can see it can't keep up with it in the slightest),...)
I'd really like to see an article on this website that adresses all these issues (autoplaying the videos in the eShop - WTF!?!). I like my Switch 2 for the performance bumps of the games I already had. But not all is good in Nintendo Land. Not at all.
Game Key Cards are really the smallest problem of them all. Because they can (and should) just be ignored.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Guide: Ultimate Resource

Coxula

@speed_loafer Thanx. I also just wanted to transfer the Virtual Game Cards. In fact, I even thought that this would be the main purpose of them when they introduced them, but...
Don't know about Wifi. But the downloads are way faster then before even the ones with cable.
And: I would have bet against it, but the shop is... fluid. No comparison to before! If someone could tell me now how to stop auto video-play in it...

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Guide: Ultimate Resource

Coxula

Switch 2 is out of control. It really tries to download all my games.
1. Without me telling it to do so.
2. Without a real chance to stop it. (I could stop on a game-by-game basis but I cannot say: Stop this insanity!!!)
3. System memory isn't enough - by far.
I hoped I could use this day to clean up my overly big collection a bit. But the system doesn't want me to.
Sounds not to be a big thing. But it's a pain in the neck with 350+ games Switch 2 tries to download.
Does someone know how to stop this madness?

Re: Switch 2's Album Will Finally Let You Filter Screenshots And Videos By User

Coxula

I'd love to love Switch 2 but I'm still not convinced.
Display back to stone age, no external storage available at launch (not in a size that's worth to talk about), a little bit of a disappointing startup lineup (there's nothing that really hypes me - I don't really need a new MK), same UI as Switch 1 which I don't like very much...
And mouse control as the only real innovation is... not enough.

You can sort screenshots now. But I bet you still can't organize your games in folders... And I bet the eShop is as unresponsible as the one we still have.
Well. The last 2 things are pure speculation - obviously.

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

Coxula

Well... not something I WANT necessarily but I'll HAVE to stick with Switch 1 for some time for one simple reason:
My 1TB MicroSD card is almost full of games I haven't played until now. And there is still no 1TB MicroSD Ex card available in stores (in Germany at least). So... until there's a 2TB MicroSD Ex available (for the old games and some new ones) there's a lot of work to do for my OLED.

I'm very curious to see how games can be tranfered to Switch 2. It was a pain to transfer 300+ games from OG Switch to OLED model. Having to do it game by game... Hopefully there is a "multi select" option - something like that. You know what I mean. (no English native here)

Re: Nintendo Gives Us A Closer Look At Switch 2's "All-In-One" Carrying Case

Coxula

I'm really a bit concerned about Nintendos new politics on pricing.
Beginning with the console price - which is semi OKisch but just a bit over the top considering Switch 2 is just "more of the same" but with a worse display. And JoyCon mouse controls are nothing I'm convinced of.
The new price tag for games is completely over the top if you ask me.
And now accessories with double the price of what they're worth...
All in all for me this will just end in buying lot less of... everything in comparison to Swich 1. I wouldn't be surprised if this price politics will end up in a smaller desaster for Nintendo.

Re: PowerA Reveals Its New Switch 2 Pro Controller Featuring Hall Effect Sticks

Coxula

@Tandoori And you have the Data - I see. And you can't imagine the drift issue is more well known on JoyCon because it got it's name after the JoyCon or people do play more often in Handheld Mode and not docked? And when playing docked the players have a bunch of different Controllers to chose from - in comparison to the JoyCon.
"Pro Controller never had the issue" is plain wrong. Nothing true in there.
But I don't know. YOU seem to have all the data - not me.

Re: Ubisoft's Switch 2 Physical Release Of Star Wars Outlaws Is A "Game-Key Card"

Coxula

I really don't care much of UBI behaviour.
Just a small note directly to the Editors of this website:
Could you please stop calling Game Cards a "physical release"? Game Cards have more to do with "code in a box" then with a physical release. So in order not to be constantly misled in the future please call it code in a box or find an own wording for it.

Re: Feature: The Switch 2 Sticks Might Not Be Hall Effect, But They Feel Fantastic

Coxula

As if "smoothness" ever was a problem of Switch Controllers. If you ask me - Switch Controllers had exactly 2 problems:
1. 1st and foremost (and obviously): Joy-Con Drift. And, yes, Pro Controllers also where doomed after around 2 years of using them. I own 2 Joy-Cons and 3 Pro Controllers with the issue.
2. D-Pad. Well... while Joy-Cons didn't have one - D-Pad on Pro Controllers where lot too stiff to use them in games that needed them or begged for using them. This got better with newer releases. Day 1 Pro Controller D-Pad was just awful while the D-Pads of the Pro Controllers I had to buy because the old ones had the drift issue where much better. But still no comparison to 8BitDo SN30 pro(+) Controller D-Pad (for example).
Well... I don't wonder much Nintendo doesn't care about the drift issue. They had their "solution" (send them in and they'll get repaired or replaced) which was fine for them. And they earned money from all that double- (triple-, quadruple-) dippers.
And they moved from being different to their customers (in comparison to their competitors) to "normal". They're the 1st calling a price of 80 bucks per game.
Unthinkable 15-20 years ago...

Re: PSA: You Can Now Download Nintendo's New Mobile App

Coxula

@Mirastrix said: "This is awesome. Now we don't have to rely on websites that post clickbait, opinionated trash, and unsubstantiated lies from "credible" sources for news!"

I looked at the app in Google Play store:
While on a website you can always decide by yourself if you want to click the bait... this is what the App is doing:

  • looking at my calendar
  • looking at my browser history
  • looking at my personal data (like: name, email adress, telephone number, more,...

So Nintendolife seems a good deal to me compared to the App.
Just saying...
