Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Upcoming June Nintendo Direct

Clammy

Ooh! Click bait article! Grr!

Anyhow, I fully expect lots of remakes plus new versions of the cheap and easy* games to make.

Obvious choices for the cheap and easy to make games (I expect at least one of these for definite, and it’ll be their Xmas title).

Mario Party,
Warioware
2d Mario
2.5D yoshi/kirby
Mario sports thing (soccer/tennis/olympics/etc)
Arms 2?

Perhaps a big title which is a crossover switch/switch 2 game. (Like Zelda was way back when).

    • just as I know some pedant will pipe up.. I mean “cheaper and easier to make than a full on AAA big title”.. it’s Nintendo, so they’ll still charge full price for it.

Re: Poll: Is $60 Too Much For Nintendo's Switch Re-Releases?

Clammy

The problem is, I dont think the "money men" will take the correct message home on these things.

"Super Mario RPG" remake $60 : people dont want fun/interesting rpgs with mario... it's 100% not because people were unwilling to pay $60 for a SNES game they can get for free or very cheap elsewhere.

"TTYOD" remake : $60 - this has sold really well, this doesnt mean people WANT interesting RPGs with mario - but shows we can remake old games on the cheap and charge $60 for them.. Which we need right now as we're struggling to fill schedule before the next console is made.

... Cue LOTS of remakes/remasters for full price in the next Direct taking us into next year..

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door?

Clammy

I went with 7, for no other reason than I've already played it to death on gamecube and new version doesnt offer enough extra content. And it's one of those games which once you beat once, you're not going to go back to.

I was hoping after all these years i'd have forgotten most of it (which is why i bought it), but i was wrong. That said, I wanted to do "my bit" by buying it, and telling nintendo "more of this please, and less of whatever cutdown simplistic crud the new paper marios have turned into"

But I wanted to mark it higher if only because it is STILL a great game, and to negate all the idjets going on about framerate (wrongly imho)

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate For Paper Mario: TTYD On Switch?

Clammy

That's not the case. Your tv is set up wrong for games and is ghosting the previous frame for smoothing purposes. Turn that feature off if you dont like it.

Games wont blur the image like that unless it was an artistic choice to do so.

The reason for 60 vs 30 discussion is due to the reaction time between your input and things happening on screen, and for smoother animation (double the amount of tweens), not blurring.

60hz + is very important in a "twitch" style game, like racing or shooting - where you want your interactions to happen immediately on the screen.

Actually, Im not going to bother explaining any further, as you're obviously thinking its something other than it is - and I cant be bothered to continue.. Fill your boots.. I'll just say you're correct and walk away - it's easier - 30fps somehow adds blur to a game.. LOL

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate For Paper Mario: TTYD On Switch?

Clammy

@Ironcore : There is NO ghosting effect for 30fps on a game. That is TOTAL nonsense. That's not how games work. You WILL get ghosting on a Live broadcast (for example) where the camera shutter speed is low. But not for a game.

It's physically impossible for a game to "add" blurring based on framerate, unless the game itself chooses to add the bluring for aesthetic purposes.

HOWEVER - If there is a ghosting effect on your TV, you have your TV set up wrong.. Your TV is adding blurring/etc. This is NOT the fault of the game or the console you're playing on.. This is YOU choosing to turn that effect on, on your tv.

That's not the games fault. Turn those features off on your tv.

Glad I finally understood the problem here.. User error.

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate For Paper Mario: TTYD On Switch?

Clammy

@Samalik : it's not a twitch 2d platformer/fps or racing game either. There would be ZERO people noticing the frame rate differences unless they were told about it or comparing side by side.

This is NOT a game where 60hz or 30hz would make ANY difference AT ALL. Heck, I played it originally in the uk on my gamecube at 50hz.

You WOULD notice if it was running at 60 and occasionally dropped to 30, which is why a 30 constant is better than doing that.

That said, the developers could've hit 60 on a game like this easily... If they were willing or able to do it, I'm guessing it's an inexperienced team - or they had a low budget to do it (which didnt have much money put aside for experienced programmers)... So yeah, it could've been done. But if it were my choice of spending more money on a niche game to hit 60 when no-one would notice (unless they were told), I know what I'd choose too...

Re: The First Review For Princess Peach: Showtime! Is In

Clammy

@coolioam : Have you played it?

EDIT: Actually I'll add to that. Did YOU pay money for it?
Did you think it was worth the money that you paid for it?
Comparing it to Mario Odyssey or Zelda TOTK - which both cost the SAME amount of money ..
how would you rate your $ cost to enjoyment ratio compared to those other products?

Would you honestly rate Wonder as good or better than those games? OR would you say "meh, it was okay, but it should've been half the price?"

Up to you....

Because Nintendo are listening.. If you're saying Wonder is WORTH the same PRICE as Odyssey - you're telling Nintendo they dont need to spend the money on a new Odyssey... As doing more "Wonders" is FAR FAR FAR cheaper....

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Personal Favourite Super Mario Game?

Clammy

My worst one is STILL Mario Wonder - if only because website like this one loved it up so much that it convinced me to buy it, despite knowing deep down it wasnt as good as it was being made out to be.

Presumably either because of big ad dollars, or because it was easy (which games reviewers seem to like).

There are worse mario games, but they havent been hyped up so much. Give it a couple of years and wonder will be seen the same as the mario movie is now.
