I know there's been a treehouse thing today (or is it tomorrow)?

One of the deciding factors for me with mario kart would be a decent single player campaign... Any information on that yet?

I'm still on the fence right now.. If there had been a new mario or zelda or something "big" as a launch title, then (even with price) i'd have been pre-ordering.

(Im not convinced by the donkey kong game.. My first impression of it was that it looked rubbish - like a n64 throwback)

Right now, I'm still trying to argue with myself as to if i want it or not (lol).

@progx : Nah, the textures will all be upscaled in AI. They even have a patent with nvidia (I think? I cant remember all of the details) for doing that in real time.
Resolution change is 1 line of code, HDR lighting is a bit more work I admit... But Im guessing they have internal engine which they only have to update once (Or if they're using unreal/unity - like i know they DO do for some games, that would be pretty quick to do).

But meh.. no biggy. I already own BOTW twice on Wii-U and Switch. I'm not buying it a 3rd time. And Tears of kingdom I've only recently completed so i dont really feel need to play again unless there's some DLC for it.

Then again, I'm not convinced to buy the console itself yet. So far the only games they've shown which interest me are 3rd party - which would look and play better on ps5.. which costs 25% less .. So I might just buy one of them along with astrobot.

But maybe mario kart has a great single player, and maybe donkey kong is better than it first appeared... And maybe they'll announce something else i want.. But right now.. At the price they've stated.. I think I can wait for the OLED edition (or hopefully a version which is much cheaper and doesnt have the handheld mode)

@progx : Yeah, I know.. But paying extra money for what amounts to a couple of lines of code to up resolution, etc... Seems penny pinching to me.

In my country (Canada) it's more than 50% more expensive than a brand new PS5 slim...

So.. er.. yeah... I dont think so, that's a lot of money to play two kart racing games at launch..

@smeggysmeg : Yeah, nintendo are taking the michael by charging for the upgrades.. I'd happily play both Zelda games again in 4k HDR.. But im not paying more for that.

@thehoppypoppy : Agreed. Even mario kart didnt wow me that much, not when i have kirby kart.

@Fizza : Id have rathered they released in late August and had some more 1st party games for it..

I sure as heck am not paying more just to play zelda again in 4k.

Maybe by time some games I want are out, they'll have the OLED model available.

They've had all this time to make games for the thing, and 2 of the 3 nintendo exclusives are kart racers!

(I dont count the paid tech demo as a game)

With current USA situation, this is a bit too close to home for my liking

It’s just texture up scaling. Lots of remakes do ai texture up scaling, and people don’t even notice (unless it’s done badly, or someone upscaled very low res images to very high res ones, especially if they had text)

I recon the price will be between $50 and $1000.

I’m convinced the switch 2, is just the switch pro they had ready years ago.
So, they probably been stocking up for yonks now.. just waiting for the software.

Still, I think that sums up my hate for wonder.

I stil personally rank “wonder” in my worst list.
I have absolutely zero idea why it is praised so much.
I could tell from trailers it would be awful, but reviews and websites kept telling me it was great, so I bought it thinking that maybe it was great when you actually played it..
.. but no..
absolutely awful. Worst Mario I’ve ever played. I even forced myself to complete it to see if it got better.

Imho. For most those titles. That should be the price they should be retailing at in the first place.

Especially Mario rpg.

My biggest complaint about this game feels stupid to complain about! It’s too darn big! It never ends!

Im only really gonna buy a new mario kart if it has a proper single player campaign, missions, basic story, etc.

My dream would be one like that Crash Bandicoot game where the single player races were linked with a 3D platformer.

Have mario run around the hub world, finding/starting the races/etc.

multiplayer only is a bit boring for my personal play preferences.

@mlt I hope not. I couldn’t play BF for long without getting bored.
That said, I preferred it to Wonder. I hated Wonder irrationally. It’s so irational, I can’t even say why I hate it so much!

@BANJO : it occurred to me that perhaps the delays for these games happened because they all target switch 2, and it’s been delayed (out if their control), maybe these games have been finished for ages, they’re just waiting on the console release?

Why would Nintendo buy them? What does Ubisoft really have?

Sony haven’t figured out yet that games matter more than power.
Throwing more and more pretty pixels at things don’t make them any more fun, and usually the end customer won’t notice difference anyhow (and will need someone like digital foundry to tell them whether it’s good or not)

They're big games. IMHO, it'd be REALLY daft to release either this close to MP4 release date... Or even stupider to release them at the same time!

People will be too busy playing the original trilogy to play the new game.

And "retro" (sigh) hipster pixel art - is about the biggest (lazy imho) trope there is nowadays!

If you're trying for a "retro" look, great... But do it properly, use the limited palette/sprites/etc from the retro too. Or at the very least, have a "reason" for the look.. Otherwise, you're just basically just jumping on a bandwagon.. The "ultimate" trope.

Im guessing it must get better. As I hated the first hour i played with it, and never went back.

Either that or I missed something that other people get from playing it..

As for "avoiding tropes", what i played was as generic as they came - so much so, i got literally bored playing it.

Again, Im judging it after getting bored after an hours play. So I might be wrong, and maybe it gets brilliant. But my time is short, if im not pulled in within an hour, i'll just quit.

Well, they've been sitting on them and stockpiling them for long enough now.. no surprise they have so many.

Games don’t have to be finished to get a rating.. getting rating before game is done is common practice.
