Re: Review: Romancing SaGa 2 (Switch eShop)

CanisWolfred

What can I say? It's SaGa. I'm in it for the veritable grab-bag of gameplay ideas and intriguing experimental concepts, instead of a refined, story-focused experience. Sometimes I just want to a game that's all about trying new things, ya know?

Re: Fe Will Be Enchanting the Nintendo Switch Next Month

CanisWolfred

Oh hey, it's that really pretty game that I ignored because I couldn't tell if there was any actual gameplay, or if it was just a walking simulator... Now I that there's clearly gameplay, it was just more puzzle-focused than I'm used to...still not sure how I feel about that, to be honest...

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze And Hyrule Warriors Are Coming To Switch

CanisWolfred

Now I can safely sell my Wii U versions to make some space. I know I'll be getting a lot of mileage out of Tropical Frreze's new mode, and I really couldn't justify playing Hyrule Warriors, or really any Tecmo Koei/Omega Force game, unless it's the "definitive edition," simply because I'm financially disincentivized from enjoying their games, thanks to how frequently they release new versions and paid content.

Re: The World Ends With You: Final Remix Heading to Nintendo Switch This Year

CanisWolfred

Sounds like the definitive edition I've been waiting over a decade for! This game was up there with Secret of Mana as a game that I felt had a ton of style, but a few frustrating gameplay choices or hiccups damped the experience too much for me to enjoy...wow, and both of those games are getting enhanced remakes in the same year! This really is an exciting time to be a gamer!

Re: Feature: Here's What Was Announced During The January 2018 Nintendo Direct Mini

CanisWolfred

I know some will complain about the prevelance of ports and DLC, but I personally was excited by everything announced in the direct. Really making saving up for a Switch difficult, but it'll be oh so worth it when I finally get one! And now it'll be a bit easier since I can sell a few Wii U versions I have (I need to do that anyways to make space), and I can hold off on a few purchases that I know I'd like to have on a portable system, anyways, like Ys VIII.

Re: Review: Enter The Gungeon (Switch eShop)

This was a fun one on the PC. Fluid combat, a lot of silliness and dark comedy, and levels that always felt challenging, but rarely unfair - which is quite a feat considering the inevitable RNG-fest that makes up its rogue-lite elements.

Re: Details Emerge on Mega Man 11 Difficulty Options, a Weapon Wheel and More

CanisWolfred

@SoIDecidedTo - Well, his description didn't exactly sum up my experience with Mega Man, that's for sure. Nor do I care for him implying that his difficulty and disinterest in difficult platforming is the same as others. It's not a big deal, but it was my attempt to hold back "Speak for yourself, noob" that I desperately wanted to say.

They're NES platformers. Of course they're going to be difficult. I never felt they were frustrating, though. The levels are well-designed and aside from a few sections, I always felt like the answer was right in front of me. MM1-10 all gave me a sense of "just one more try!" that I think makes for a good, challenging platformer. It never got to the point when I "accepted it would be frustrating." I just accepted that it would take practice. There's a big difference, since "frustrating" implies that it feels impossible. That was rarely the case for me with Mega Man, though I'll admit those Wily stages marathons might've crossed that line...4 stages in a row with a boss rush section is just brutal if you don't farm for lives and Tanks....

@FriedSquid Good find. Certainly looks more like what I expected considering what that power was. Thanks.

Re: Poll: Capcom is Finally Bringing Mega Man Back - Are You Excited?

CanisWolfred

Wait what?! When?! Holy crap this is amazing!!!

Wait, let's watch the trailer first...

...Uh-oh, 3D graphics??? Getting Mighty No.9 flashbacks...but...wait...it actually looks good...like, really good...holy crap, Mega Man really is back, baby!!! I gotta get caught up, and finish the first 10 games....I always leave off on the Wily stages for some reason...

Re: Poll: Have Your Say on the Best Main Series 3D Mario and Zelda Games

CanisWolfred

Huh. Opposite of the majority on every issue except the final one. I prefer Zelda in most cases, but I'll admit that I got the most mileage out of Super Mario 64 and the Wii U Mario games on their respective consoles. The Gamecube was my big Zelda time, but then again, I did love most of the 3D Mario games, too. Now, if we were talking about 2D entries, Zelda would win every time for me.
