Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has been available for nearly two weeks, offering an enormous adventure for Switch owners to take on. With its own Expansion Pass and some areas needing improvement it's a title that'll have a number of updates, and Monolith Soft has outlined the first major patch - version 1.1.1.
It's due to go live on 22nd December, and in an official post by Monolith Soft there's confirmation of some bug fixes and other notable changes. Check out the details below.
Greetings to everyone playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This is Director Takahashi at Monolith Soft. Today I’d like to talk about the main updates that will be seen in the Ver. 1.1.1 update, which will be distributed next week on Friday December 22nd.
In addition to some bug fixes, we will address the following points:
- An easy mode will be added to Tiger! Tiger!
- When you press the X Button, the Skip Travel screen will open the map to your current location. We hope this will make it easier to spot Skip Travel locations and Salvage Points on the map.
- An additional 1:1 zoom on the mini map will be displayed by pressing the L Stick. This will allow improved visibility of your surroundings and make it easier to check quest locations.
We will further improve the convenience of the mini map as we add more quests and additional elements for second playthroughs next year. We appreciate your continued patience.
Note: The second playthrough elements will be available for all players, not just those who purchased the Expansion Pass.
- In your second playthrough, you will be able to have “those” Blades join your party! You can also dispatch Blades like Pyra and Dromarch as a Merc Group, and unlock the “LV 4 Special” of a certain Blade.
- We will distribute the following useful items to those who purchased the Expansion Pass:
- Driver Essentials Set: 10 x Rare Core Crystal, 1 x Legendary Core Crystal, 3 x Overdrive Protocol
- Upgrade Parts for Poppi: 30,000 ether
- Pyra’s Favourite Things: 5 x Jenerossi Tea
- Nia’s Favourite Things: 5 x Ardainian Bear Carving
So there you have it, a 'second playthrough' option next year that sounds rather like a form of New Game+, and some changes to the map and so on next week.
Are you still working through Xenoblade Chronicles 2?

I'm really loving the game so far, and I have to admit that I love the idea of more content more so now than I did before release, though I still have yet to actually purchase the pass.
The 'X' button fix is actually something I didn't know I wanted, but can see myself appreciating quite a bit.
Thanks for improving the game Monolith Soft!
I knew staying up till 1 am would come in handy!
Real talk, this is a great update. The map in particular was one thing I really wished they'd changed, so this is perfect!
The map is one of my biggest issues with the game. In a world this size, being able to open the map quickly and look where you are and use quick travel is essential. It was a massive oversight of them to think the map overlay on the screen was a good substitute to opening a map quickly to your location. The game doesn't even tell you there's a button to open the quick travel screen instead of going into the menu first.
Nothing on making the damn tutorials an option to view any time any where.
Map fix would be awesome.
I love this game, really addicting and I just can't stop playing, it's not perfect by any means like BoTW but the story pulls you in and the combat is surprisingly easy to comprehend when it is tought to you in steps. I really didn't have too much hype from the stuff we saw before release but once you get going and the game starts to take off you will not want to put it down.
@MsJubilee Considering how much info they throw at you in a short time it’s a crime they didn’t implement this. I’m not going to look up combat guides and risk spoilers because I blinked and missed an explanation.
The map is definitely at the top of my list of necessary improvements so I’m glad to see it’s being patched. But got dang they need to fix battle voices first and foremost. I won’t spend a cent on DLC until that’s fixed.
Is Yooka Laylee out in England yet? If so will they issue a review that I should be able to see tonight in the US or will they realease one tomorrow US time?
@yeayeanaynay
" I dont fit monoliths calculated demographic of horny adolescent n was left with the impression of jrpg fluff that didnt respect the players valuable time. "
Lemme guess.
Because a lot of Sexy girls exploited as Rare Blades ?
@yeayeanaynay
tip of the hat
Fix the uneven handheld resolution and I'll buy the game.
not enough overdrive protocols!
Best game on Switch.
I've seen a lot of newcomers who bought the game and didn't really know what to expect and are now absolutely in love with it.
I love the new art style- it makes the cut scenes that much more weighted by the emotion that is conveyed via the expressions of the characters themselves... I sincerely hope they stick with this particular style for the series going forward.
And the world is simply amazing. Still put XCX as the best world of any game I've played, but this is a close second. Story is superb... Characters too. I never felt this invested in the Xenoblade X narrative. But man they really nailed it with this one.
So glad they're giving continued attention and support to the game. This is a great set of fixes and improvements coming, and I'm sure it won't be the last! Rocket League just got a patch for handheld mode that makes the game look incredible in portable mode... super sharp. I'd love to see a similar update to this game as well. It's perfectly serviceable but it would still be appreciated nonetheless.
Since exploration is a big part of my enjoyment of this game an improved map would help; though I'd prefer one that reveals itself as you enter new areas so you know where you have an haven't been.
One minor amendment I would have liked is a new subtitle track that matches the original Japanese one more accurately. It can be hard replacing words so that our Nopon character refers to Rex as "Bro" before talking to Homura (oh yeah the name changes) about the intricacies of being "Moe".
Would also help in fuly comprehending all the Japanese humour, although if you're a long time comedy anime watcher you can pick up a fair bit.
Plus infreasing rare blade chances; got loads of standards I never use as only interested in the Rares. So far just gota Samurai and a Shy Girl with a Polar Bear.
@Some_Donkus What's weird is that XCX had a pretty good manual available through the system menu. It didn't detail absolutely everything, but it explained a good bit. No idea why they didn't add that here.
Oh thank god they fixing the mini map.
Im on chapter 8 and not played Tiger-Tiger since the first time I tried it. Placing a garbage retro game as a key upgrade mechanic was a dumb idea.
Good thing they addressing both.
This is good cuz the map is the most broken element in the game for me. The skip travel enhancement is a huge plus
I am happy with the change to tiger tiger and I am also slightly pleased with the changes to the minimap. I would like them to alter the controls or better yet allow us to alter the controls. I would rather have quick travel on the plus button and menu on X. I would absolutely love to have other options on the d-pad then just some basic controls. I also would like to see guides available to review not just seen once, for me, 70 hours ago.
From what I've heard, the map improvememts should be a big deal. A lot of strange decisions there.
@yeayeanaynay Sucks to be you..
@blackice85 Your guess is as good as mine. There’s a noticeable lack of “fluff content” in XB2 compared to XB1 and XCX. It breaks my heart to see the dev team take steps forward design wise just to overlook things like this (lack of reference material, map issues, excessive battle voices, etc).
This is all great, and not to sound ungrateful, but I was really hoping for the next update to improve the way the game looks in handheld mode.
@yeayeanaynay I really don't understand some of the prudish behavior here. I saw similar complaints about Bayonetta. I would understand if XC2 was like that game isn't like touch massage game that just came out. XC2 has a fun battle system and colorful characters. Don't dismiss it, and everyone else who likes it because you're not a "horny teenager."
How ignorant.
It will be better if they could change the leader with a click of a button !!!!
Instead of going into the menu and change party order -.-
Which kind of suck since we can ZL our Blade how about a ZL+ZR to change leader !!!!!
@Some_Donkus It almost feels like a lack of playtesting, like by people who didn't design it. The map issues for example should have been apparent, and the battle voices wouldn't be so bad if it they didn't overlap so much. Little things on their own, but they're quality of life things that give a game polish.
I think some parts may have been rushed a tad, but it looks like they are looking to refine things thankfully.
Meh.
Call me when handheld mode get a resolution boost and such.
I will play this almost exclusively in handheld mode as I do most Switch games.
145 hours in, this game is awesome. Updates still welcome.
How about a proper map and a compass?
27 hours in and not even done with Chapter 3. Bought the special edition, expansion pass and controller. LOVE the game.
Can't talk about it on social media however, always get assaulted by haters. "It's too anime! Too many cut scenes! The voice acting is terrible! WAHHHH! You stupid fanboy!"
@JaxonH I love the game so much, but wouldn't call it the best game on the Switch. It is very niche and targeted to fans of anime, JRPGs and definitely more toward a male audience. It's also a pretty complex game to learn. I would call something like BotW or Odyssey the best on the Switch as they appeal to a much much wider range of players and can be easily learned by many.
@Heavyarms55
Idk what to say. I love both those games and Zelda is one of the best games I've ever played... but this one I love more. I don't care how niche it is to someone else, because it's not someone else playing it... it's me playing it.
Y O U T H I N K Y O U C A N T A K E M E ? !
100+ hours in, and I couldn't be more thrilled for a NG+! I figured it'd be added eventually, but this is far sooner than I could've ever predicted. Also, there comes a point where getting new rare Blades from the core lottery becomes near impossible, so I'm hoping that is also addressed at some point.
@JaxonH That's totally fair, though in this case I would suggest you say it's your favorite game on the Switch, rather than the best game. Saying it's the best might lead to misunderstanding.
Of course I could be overthinking.
@Baker1000 Yeah. After going from the map right in your hands on the gamepad in Xenoblade X, the map in 2 is a pretty big downgrade.
@Agramonte
Tiger Tiger is GOTY
@JTMnM Don't forget me!
maps are for casuals...the handheld mode needs to be fixed
All I'd like to see is a frame rate fix. I don't even care about the resolution 'issue' in portable mode, performance is more important.
@JaxonH
I would say Super Mario Odyssey is the best game on Switch, but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a close second and I fall into that category of somebody who just jumped on the bandwagon now. One thing I love doing in RPGs (though I know it drives some people insane) is grinding, especially if the combat is fun. And now that I feel like I've got the combat down it's been a blast. The story has been very enjoyable as well. Definitely my favorite JRPG since The Last Story. Would love to see both the original Xenoblade and X get a remaster for Switch.
My copy is still waiting under the Christmas tree. So alas; I will never know that old map!
@yeayeanaynay So you just don't have time and, instead of mentioning this first, you decided to dismiss the game. How mature. Much more than "horny teenager".
@MsJubilee YER DONE!
I hope this fixes the issues with the game not allowing you to use wireless controllers when your Joy Cons are attached.
Map update is very welcome. I'd also love it if they'd be able to optimize the game a bit more, perhaps enough to stop the resolution from dropping as much as it ofttimes does portably.
But this game is life. I went in without many expectations, but it overwhelmed me and got me addicted as all hell. It's so fantastic...
Aaaaand my dream of better performance and better resolution in portable mode has died. I think the game is good, but omg it looks so incredibly bad in portable mode. It actually looks so bad that it annoys me to play the game the way it's meant to be played. In portable mode. I hope they fix this at some point. If not, 👇👎💔
@Geeks4Life
If you play it in tabletop mode, you'll usually sit a bit farther away than when you have the console in your hands in handheld mode. This will make the res drop less noticable and it will actually look amazing again, coming out of such a small device.
But yeah, when you play in handheld mode on a train or wherever and the screen is quite close to your face, the lower resolution starts to bug you because the textures will be too close to remain sharp. I'd say if you're not at home and want to play XC2, always use tabletop when you're able to.
@Sculptor Thanks dude. Not much for tabletop mode I'm afraid, but I'll try and give it a go.
@yeayeanaynay We are not talking about having a mainstream point of view or not. You just dissmissed the game because you don't have time for it. I get it, wife, children, etc. Many people don't have time. But this is not a factor which can be used to determine whether the game is bad. You can play it for 2-3 months or play something else.
@yeayeanaynay I can't say if story is shallow because I haven't finished the game yet, but it looks promising and keeps me engaded. Fights are indeed long (even with common enemies) and English voice acting is worse than Japanese. As for sexist design - yeah, I prefer less skimpy clothes, but I don't think it's sexist.
@Galenmereth Yeah, that's tabletop mode. It makes it so that I can't use the controller I spent extra money on, just for this game.
@yeayeanaynay Thanks! Maybe I didn't read one of your posts and hence the misunderstanding. Hope you'll play it one day.
When you press the X Button, the Skip Travel screen will open the map to your current location. We hope this will make it easier to spot Skip Travel locations and Salvage Points on the map.
Ermargeerd I was struggling so much with checking the map, at first I didn't even know about zooming in the minimap with pressing the L stick. I was struggling so hard with navigation.
Still haven’t got my copy in the mail yet but really excited to play this when I get it! What’s the game like?
@King_Johobo oh and all this talk about babes with big boobs in skimpy outfits has actually got me more excited about the game! And I’m a homosexual! 😂
For those who stupidly complain about handheld resolution, please go and try Xenoblade Chronicle 3DS and come back here again
@BensonUii Invaluable advice
Just finished Breath of the Wild (best game on the Switch for me) including DLC. Can't wait to continue my playthrough. 25 hours in and it just gets more and more exciting.
@yeayeanaynay I managed to avoid almost all spoilers before buying the game so I didn't know how bad the outfits for the women would be. That said this game doesn't do many favors for the guys either, everyone is Uber ripped with clothes spray painted on
I find it distracting but I can ignore it mostly by swapping blades. The story actually is good, I think, you just have to get like, 40~50 hours in first. Something that sounds absurd but this is a JRPG so yeah.
Voice acting I feel only Rex suffers from but after a while, it just works. 60 hours in and I feel like it's just part of his character, not to mention we actually get a JRPG with a Welsh sounding person. Who saw that coming?
Battles took me a while to appreciate. At first, I was overwhelmed by all the data they tossed at me. After about 40 hours it makes much more sense and fights are now faster since I know how to maximize damage.
All in all, I feel this game is fantastic, just starts off very slow. Once it gets going its good. My biggest gripe is the clothing, especially Pyra. I love how she comments about feeling self-conscious when she glows but showing off everything via wearing almost nothing is okay.
"Expansion Pass:
Driver Essentials Set: 10 x Rare Core Crystal, 1 x Legendary Core Crystal, 3 x Overdrive Protocol
Upgrade Parts for Poppi: 30,000 ether
Pyra’s Favourite Things: 5 x Jenerossi Tea
Nia’s Favourite Things: 5 x Ardainian Bear Carving"
Anybody else read that as "pay-to-win", I haven't bought the game yet? Or does PTW only apply to multiplayer games? Sorry, guess I'm a little sensitive with all the loot box talk going on lately. I guess it's really more of a pre-order bonus type thing.
1.1.1
This is why I don't buy games at release any more, I don't want to pay to play a beta version or early access. Funny, I don't see Miyamotos quote about delayed games any more.
So, I have to ask, for people who played XCX, does the map in this game that so many people complain about feel like it was forced onto the screen maybe b/c the game started development on the 3DS or Wii U and once they ported it they didn't know what to do with the map without the 2nd screen? I used the map extensively in XCX, especially when it came to missions like 300 mining at once, but also for skip travel all the time. And for flying around in my skell I'd watch were I was going on the map. (I know it's more likely this was a Wii U than 3DS gsme, but they ported XC to New 3DS, so this may have originated as a design years ago for the 3DS. Anime graphics look 3DS friendly to me.)
Thanks for beta testing the game for me everyone, I'll continue to wait for it to be done. My birthday is in July, this would make a nice gift.
@JaxonH You're the only person I know who can get grief on a Nintendo site for liking a Nintendo game in the thread we are talking about that game. Only you. And I have zero idea what Tiger, Tiger is but I thank them for nerfing it for me.
@Gamer83 Did you play KoA:R? Side quests and grinding up the wazoo. It's a huge game in a huge world, but unfortunately I've spent probably 15 of my 90 hours doing inventory management, but if they would have just fixed that it would have been really enjoyable. Now I just can't wait to move on. I have around 30 unfinished side quests, which is so unlike me, but I just can't. Ok, that's unfair, I read up on it and every review said it was a 30 hour game so I played it to keep me busy for a couple of weeks back in August. Had I known it was 100 hours, maybe 150 with everything, I'd probably like it even more.
@Baker1000 but you can display the map, you just need to press the L stick.
@yeayeanaynay lol your lost then.
This game is amazing and it looks really cool on handheld mode as well. I was also put down by ppl over at Youtube. Glad I still went ahead and buy it.
@Yorumi oh I absolutely agree. You have no idea how much I felt absurd for having to admit that it takes 50 hours of labor to really enjoy a game but that's how it is. The outfits on some of these girls are just plain... Bad, and the anime cliches are heavy. I won't ruin the story but they do toss in like, every cliche imaginable.
At least the music is good in some areas.
@Yorumi I don't blame you if you don't want to continue, though it does get better. Just prepare for cringe. I've even skipped cutscenes for when you get some blades because they physically hurt to watch.
I love this game. It is truly a great JRPG. I was waiting for this game ever since the SWitch came out. I just cannot stop playing it. I haven't even touched BotW expansion yet, Skyrim, or Metroid 3DS for that matter. My backlog is great. I am so happy with Nintendo now. I cannot wait for more JRPGs in 2018. Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Shin Megami, and Dragon Quest 11 to name a few. It is a great time to be a Switch owner because I'm so feeling it.
@rjejr About the map thing: As someone who has also played xcx just as xc1, I'd say no, it doesn't feel like the map was meant for a second screen at all.
The actual issue was simply what you had to do to see the map you are on:
Press X
Choose the country you are on
Now scroll through the different (few) areas until you find the map you are on.
That was just way too much of a hassle just to get an overview on where you are and that is what they fixed.
That being said, you don't really need to look as much on the map as you probably were in xcx. To just see where you are going, you have a minimap and a marker for the currently selected main and sidequest so that you always know in which direction you need to go. The world is not one giant open map like in xcx but many smaller (still big) maps with more obvious landmarks like in xc1, this also helps navigating even without a map.
To sum it up: the whole map issue was simply one bad design choice that can be a bit annoying, nothing more, nothing less. Far from a "beta" at the very least.
@rjejr Btw. they already explained why they went with the anime style.
It is because they had problems animating emotions on faces in the previous games and it is easier with this kind of design.
Since the facial expressions in this game actually are far FAR better in showing emotions than in xcx and xc1 this is likely not a lie.
Game is really great so far.
But I guess the update is not going something I really wanted and is so simple that I don't know why it's not there: the option of being able to return to the title screen when you're playing the game.
Sometimes I want to let my wife catch up on some of the cutscenes she missed while I was playing, and they're available from the title screen. But I have to press the Home Button, close the software, then re-open the software from the Switch main menu to jump back in.
The Switch doesn't even have a 'Reset' feature like Wii U did, which is odd.
@Kirgo "Press X
Choose the country you are on
Now scroll through the different (few) areas until you find the map you are on."
Well that sounds poorly planned if nothing else. It's hard to judge these things without playing them. I don't recall using the map excessively in XC, for an open world it was fairly linear, mostly just looking around inside the colonies, but in XCX it was all the time. And in Zelda BotW I paid $20 to get that green line Heros' Path. I also played the game by first getting every tower so I could fill in the map. I disregarded the story until the map was done, took me about 25 hours and then I did a lot of fast travel and gliding after that.
So I'm kind of hung up on maps. My nickname in grad school was "the master of maps", my friends and I took a lot of cross country road trips.
"Far from a "beta" at the very least."
Sigma, tau, upsilon? Additional DLC is one thing, but the game seems like it was released before the base game was finished to their liking. Not that it's the first game, NO game releases these days "Finished". Except Super Mario Odyssey, it's the exception that proves the rule. It was very impressive.
"It is because they had problems animating emotions on faces in the previous games and it is easier with this kind of design."
Doesn't mean it wasn't planned for a previous system though. These JRPG usually take years to create, this one released 9 months after the Switch launched. And the plan for the Wii U was probably a 5 year lifespan, and this holiday is year 5, so I can't help but think this started as a planned Wii U game. But the graphical style does make me think more of 3DS games than an XCX follow-up.
So while the reasoning for the anime style may be emotions on faces, that doesn't preclude that anime style being originated for a game made for the New 3DS or Wii U. And if it was conceptualized for either of those, the map would be on the 2nd screen.
So I suppose in my head there are more reasons to think this game originated on a prior system than on a just released Switch. Mario may have been built for the Switch from the ground up, that's a system seller, but JRPG aren't system sellers, they're still kind of niche. So that's why I thought about the map having been poorly implemented. Which it seems to be, at least in practice.
@MsJubilee I hope they get around to making this happen. Being a Noob to this type of game, I would really love the option to view the tutorials on the fly! Cheers!
@Yorumi "So many things either arn't thought through very well, or are just outright annoyances"
I am honestly not even sure what you mean by that, there is the map, which they fixed now and then there is the framerate (which I can perfectly live with).
But apart from that? Doesn't seem rushed to me at all.
@rjejr The map is definitly more comparable to XC rather then XCX.
There isn't even that much information on them to consider looking on it all the time just like it was in XC.
I don't think there is any actual basis for thinking this was planned for another console, even though it is of course always possible. There is nothing about the map that screems "touchscreen" and nothing about it would be especially useful on a second screen (apart from maps always being useful on second screens). Anime style games can be found on any console and the graphics are way too good to be ever possible on the 3DS and if they have to make such drastic changes to the graphics, they could have changed the design as well.
At least I don't think it originates from the 3DS, everything else is always possible.
@Yorumi
"Fix the map" is pretty harsh. The old version was faster for skip traveling to other places. Besides, something like that can be seen by every single developer even without testing it and it is changed in a matter of minutes by a single dev.... This is not an error but a poor design choice, so nothing that would have likely changed with more time before release.
The new game+ is a valid point, that really points to the game being rushed. It's not really something that needs to be there on the first days, but yes.
I am not sure what you mean by the guards. It seems like it is so obvious that I missed it...
With the characters talking in battle also is nothing rushed. It was the same in XC and personally I don't even think it's bad that they are talking over each other, feels more natural in battle to me, but opinions are bound to differ here. The amount of different lines is also not going up by more development time as writing those barely takes up any time, at least for the devs.
I have played over 40 hours now and have not encountered any bugs at all, so I don't know about that. Well, besides some weird animations on party members when they stand at strange positions, ok.
"unskippable core opening sequence" which is like 3 seconds long anything past that can be skipped. This might even just hide a very short loading screen for the cutscene...
Not sure about enemy placement problems.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I also feel like they could have done a bit better here and there and Nintendo is usually better than that, but still, we are talking about very minor stuff here, I'd say.
The only thing that is really problematic in my opinion is how the game runs in portable mode. The resolution really shouldn't go that low.
@Yorumi
I understand now what you mean, you are talking about the same sentence being used over and over. OK, but it just didn't bother me in the slightest, because of that, it didn't even occur to me that you were talking about this....
"it's getting old that everytime someone points out negatives about the game the response is "i didn't see that.""
No offense, but if that is what you are always reading, don't you think it could be because the negatives you point out are really just that minor to most people?
@Yorumi Noticing something and taking issue in something are still two very different things. You can even find it funny and make memes about it, without having an issue with it.
Details matter to me as well, greatly. In fact some people got annoyed at me in the past, because I pointed out small errors in storys which no one else cared about. I love a good story that is good, even down to the details, but storys like that are rare, so I don't automatically hate everything else. Now, the problems we were talking about didn't have anything to do with the story though...
But let's go there if you want: There is also a major problem with the shy girl example you just stated. You say "People think a shy, self conscious girl dresses like THAT?". Yes, sure some girls do that, it depends on what you are shy about. It might not be the case where you live, but there are so called "cultural differences" you know?
Where I live, quite a few young girls show a lot of skin in summer (and no, I am not living at a beach), no matter the personality, because it is just not that special (especially with Pyra not even showing cleavage and her not being THAT shy either... just a bit).
And even if it were true, that NO shy girl in reality would ever wear something like that (ignoring the fact that her clothes are generally very strange by reality standards, just like with the other characters), it would still not necessarily be true for this fictional world, were it could still be perfectly normal and not worth any mention.
This is not a problem of bad writing or missing logic but simply that you can't imagine something like that because of your personal morales and experiences. It's a common mistake many people do, it's about thinking there own morale being the correct and common one. Though, even if Pyra were running around naked, as long as the worldbuilding supports it a bit, it doesn't damage the storys logic at all.
But there is nothing really wrong about having a problem with that. People live by different standards, that includes morale. At some point I would have a problem with it as well, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't make any sense in that game.
To make an example: If you write a story with a world in which it is normal to run around barefoot would it make sense for a character, no matter the personality, to run around barefoot? Of course it would, even though it maybe wouldn't by reality standard.
Long story short: You can't really argue about something not making any sense or being just poor writing, if you use your morale or personal experiences with other people as basis. This only really works with actual contradictions and plot holes.
Oh, and it's a shame, if this game is going in a direction that you don't like. I know the feeling of great loved game series becoming something you don't want. The disappointment can be really heavy, especially since you never know if the series will ever go back to what you want. You might not agree with what I wrote, but I just had to point this out.
@Yorumi "They probably had X in mind, remember how that was announced like 3 years before it released."
Do you mean XC? It took about 3 years to release in NA after the E3 showing, back when it had the much better name Monado The Beginning of the World and it was part of operation rainfall. I don't recall XCX being delayed, just a few months later in NA after Japan but that's standard practice for JRPG, look at DQXI which is killing me. but everything is delayed these days so I start to lose track.
And that's 1 of the pyscholigcal downsides to releasing a game in Dec, no matter how finished it is, people are going to say ti was rushed to get our before the holidays. (AC:O has pages upon pages of updates since it released. PAGES.) Now in this case it does seem like ti was rushed out for the holidays, but it just makes it that much more obvious. Had this released in August we might think it was rushed, but not "rushed for the holidays", which somehow seems worse to me.
@Kirgo Thanks. I was never really sure it could have been a 3DS game, but b/c they ported XC to New 3DS, and 3DS had outsold Wii U 5 to 1, and Squenix put a few on there, so it wouldn't have surprised me if they thought a new XC JRPG on 3DS was the way to go early on, but then Nitneod told Monolith about NX so the idea got moved from 3DS to NX. But I'm much more likely to believe it started as w Wii U follow up to XC, doesn't seem to have anything to do w/ XCX to me.
But as long as the map works, ti really doesn't matter where it started.
@Yorumi From what I have seen so far, she is mainly self conscious about the fact that parts of her glow in the dark. I would also argue that being shy about sexual things and being shy about showing some skin are too very different things, especially if we define "showing skin" in this world as no big deal. In the end this is all psychological after all (humans are not born ashamed of there body). That is what I meant as stuff like that possibly always being explained as part of worldbuilding.
Besides, aren't blades basically born with there clothes? I mean sure, we know they can take it off or wear a coat above it. But this is "the" outfit they wear. I'd say that as well changes quite a bit. (even her "lights" seem to be on her clothes, with her core cristal at least looking like it is part of it.)
@rjejr Those items are just a bonus for buying the Expansion Pass, which includes stuff like new story content. It's not like buying a lootbox.
@fumowing Comparing the 3DS port of Xenoblade 1 to Xenoblade 2 that released on the switch isn't a smart thing to do my friend.
@yeayeanaynay It's not a bad game but it's very polarizing. Either you'll love it or hate it and it takes about 40 hours to actually love it so I can understand people struggling to enjoy it.
Love the game even with the resolution issues and other quirks... if they can fix the overlapping of main quest and side arrows.. they would be nice.... maybe add a Boolean logic to fix the issue
I play the game in portable mode when I just want to do some exploring or side quests and yes the resolution could be better but it’s still a fantastic jrpg portable experience
@JJ286 no you really can't display the map by pressing the L-stick. Sure it shows you your location but it's so zoomed in you can't make out a lot else around you. You sure as hell can't scroll and zoom out to locate other places or quick travel. Really I have no idea who thought the map toggle was even necessary, and mapping it to the L-stick when XCX utilised it much, much better with the sprint action (something I wish Zelda replicated) was a baffling decision.
@Gamer83
So glad to see you're enjoying it. That's pretty much how I feel- The game is amazing... I just don't get it when I hear people say the story is horrible or when I hear people nitpick the most trivial things to use as ammo to slam the game. It's by no means perfect, but the game transcends all of it. It really is the best RPG since The Last Story, although I'd toss in Xenoblade X as being on par as well. XCX didn't have nearly as good a story or characters but the world was so amazing that it made up for it.
I really love this game.
@rjejr
You're gonna love it, man. I still think XCX is #1 in terms of awe-inspiring open world, but XC2 is a close 2nd. The world is truly beautiful- much more reminiscent of the first game. Story is extremely good (perhaps one of the best stories of any video game I've ever played), characters are super likeable, combat is streamlined and fun (not as complex as XCX, for better or worse).
Xenoblade 2 has ushered in the onslaught of top-tier RPG's. Can't wait for Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest XI, Pokémon (maybe) and Shin Megami Tensei V next year.
@Kalmaro @yeayeanaynay
I don't think it takes 40 hours to love. I've been loving this game from the moment I turned it on. It's been nonstop awesome from the minute I started playing. The story is incredible- right from the get go it hooks you. The world and exploration is addicting (as always) and I have absolutely fallen head over heels for all of the main characters. Some of the most likable characters I have seen in a video game in a very long time. The combat is also fantastic as you would expect.
@JaxonH Your mileage may vary. I was annoyed at first because battles were a slog. I KNEW I could do more but some battle mechanics are hidden by the story. Not only that but the game is downright confusing at first, battles have a lot going on. Now it's a piece a cake and I can do everything you're supposed to so it's more fun
@JaxonH You left out Ni No Kuni 2 in March, unless you were just doing Switch games, then my apologies.
I am looking forward to this one. And Kingdom Hearts 3 which isn't' a JRPG I know, but close enough. I just bought my kid the 6 pack of 1,2 etc. Still need 2.8.
So. Many. Games.
@BulbasaurusRex "Those items are just a bonus for buying the Expansion Pass"
But if they are a part of the expansion pass what are they a bonus for? Isn't the entire expansion pass a bonus for buying the expansion pass then?
Sorry, just one of those marketing things that annoys me, it's not you. There are a number of things it could be a "bonus" for - pre-ordering the game, or the DLC; buying all DLC at once rather than piece by piece; having a save file for XC or XCX - ok I know that wont' work on Switch, it's just an example of a bonus. But it's nto a bonus for buying the season pass, that just makes it a part of the season pass. If they want to slap on an end date - buy the season pass before 12/31/17 (31/12/17) to get these items, that's ok too. But it's not a bonus for buying the season pass if that's the only requirement, it's just part of the season pass then. Scanning a Shulk amiibo, now THAT's a bonus.
@Yorumi Best I can tell, XCX was shown at E3 June 2013 and released 2 1/2 years later Dec 2015. That may be a long time for some videogames but not for JRPG. Or Zelda BotW which did take 3 years, after they promised it in 2015 but it released in 2017. FFXV took 10 years from when it was announced as FFXIII Vs. FF7 Remake will be 3 years at least. JRPG just take forever.
@JaxonH
I really want to play Xenoblade X but the Wii U is a really annoying piece of hardware, imo. If Monolith can convince Nintendo to let them port X over, however, I'm there day one.
@rjejr
Haven't played that one. I like grinding in RPGs but I'm also pretty particular about the ones I play. KoA gave me too much of an Elder Scrolls vibe and I'm not a big fan of that series or Dragon Age, which KoA also looks like it borrows from.
@Baker1000 I don't get why is that a problem though.
@yeayeanaynay yeah your loss too, lol.
@yeayeanaynay
"could of influenced my negativity towards the game" seriously?! It does not even make sense to use a preposition here (btw 'of' is a preposition)
could HAVE influenced 😏
Before you troll others for not using proper English and being all condescending you should do your own homework first 😂 and English isn't even my native language..
@yeayeanaynay very mature indeed. Apparently you r good at criticizing people but a lil boy when somebody mirrors your very own behaviour
Peace out!
All I need is more information/details on the items. Some of the items are complicated to know what it actually does.
@Anti-Matter In all honesty. I was not even that bothered with her outfit. That could have been worse.
What is just silly, are her breasts. They are bigger than her head and are so out of proportion.... you really wonder what kind of artist is sitting behind the drawing table and what goes through his head. Maybe he should go out more in the weekend to you know.... really get something.
If she was just more into realistic proportions, not so many people would have been so bothered by this, but now more than half the time, especially in cut scenes...all you see is her boobs filling up the screen lol! /shrug
My wife thinks I am playing some kind of horny teenage porn game or something....
@yeayeanaynay seriously?!! Is that your come back? Whatever dude, this is getting really stu$&@.
TIGER TIGER ez mod //clap
@Gamer83 I get being particular, I basically only play JRPG that look like Squenix made them, nothing western at all, nor nay of those really Japanese ones like Persona. I only played KoA:R b/c the demo ended in this beautiful world w/ a very interesting story.
I was on this day 1, and probably the $75 Pro controller too, until they announced the $30 season pass. A single player JRPG shouldn't' need a $30 season pass, that's half the price of the game, just save it for the sequel.
@rjejr
I'm so entrenched in the PlayStation and Xbox ecosystems that season/expansion passes don't even phase me at this point. Hell I actually don't mind it when it's well done. For example the new RE 7 content, gives me a chance to revisit one of my favorite games of this gen. I like XC 2 enough that I'll be looking forward to the DLC.
@Gamer83 I really just don't have the time to go back to games a year later. I still haven't played episode Ignis which came out last week that I paid for over a year ago. I still havent' played Champions Ballad that I paid for over 6 moths ago. I still haven't played Frozen Wilds b/c I haven't had time to play H:ZD yet.
So, I can pay $90 now, play 2/3 of what I paid for now and then maybe play the other 1/3 in a year when the base game is selling for $20, or I can wait a year and pay $50 for all of it and then play it all then. FFXV was an eye opening learning experience for me. And so was paying about $22 each (B2G1sale) for RotTR, U:LL and KH1-6, only to have all 3 go on sale for $15 each a week later, which would have saved me about $20. But the worst part is I haven't' even installed any of them yet, much less start playing them. I bought a new HDD for $60, that's hooked up, but that's as far as I got b/c I'm 93 hours into KoA:R and the game just wont' end.
So I'm ok w/ DLC now, it's part of the industry, but for me, I'm not paying for something before it comes out - Lego Hobbit DLC of movie 3 never coming out taught me that - and games get so cheap so fast - Lego Marvel 2 was on sale mere weeks after releasing - why buy something when my back log is probably over 1,000 hours? Nintneod may never make XC2 Complete, but the game will go on sale by the time the DLC is done, and then I'll buy it all and play it. Or wait for BF, I've got plenty to play until then.
But I would have got XC2 for Christmas full price, if the full price and the full game was $60. Backlog can wait. Got SMO day 1 in a $405 bundle (NY tax), and that game is still the same it released 6 weeks ago. Played it all. I'll deal w/ the inevitable DLC when it happens. "Luigi Levels" in the January ND I think. Can't have a Mario game w/o Luigi showing up eventually. Maybe not playable, maybe Mario hunts down clues to find Luigi like he did Peach and Captain Toad. Maybe similar to the hidden stickers in CT:TT. Unless Luigi's Mansion 3.
@rjejr
Totally understandable. For me, I like to be there as soon as I can for a game I'm looking forward to, and if there's an option to buy future DLC early, I usually jump on that as well if I like the game enough and know for sure I'll be going back to it. Part of the problem I know, but it what it is.
@JJ286 it's just dumb. Look at it this way, to view the map large quickly you can only see part of the map and no other markers. You also have to press the button once more to bring the mini map back up. It's just an awkward feature that didn't need to be there at all tbh.
@Gamer83 I have no problem with that. Back in the 90's before wife, mortgage, kids, I was getting off the subway regularly and heading to Blockbuster or EB Games and buying something and gaming like 6 hours a night. Now I game 1 or 2 hours most nights. It's not just the industry, it's me as well. Have as much fun as you can while you can.
I like the difficulty of tiger tiger ! Add option of difficulty at start menu for it. I enjoy the mapping its makes for more exploration and longer gameplay. A easy mapping system will just reduce the enjoyable struggle of the game . What is the point of a game easily rushed through. I hope it doesnt turn into a boring legend of zelda (4 hour game start to finish) !
YES! I really hope that the minimap(s) will be updated even further over time, as much as I love the game the map is probably my biggest gripe with it! Also I can't be alone when I say 'we need outfits!' xD again, it's not game breaking but it would be nice to give Rex some actual pants!
@Kalmaro The map SUCKS walk around forever and still CAN'T find out how to get where your going! SOOOO frustrating!!!
