@EmirParkreiner You're right, I did make that mistake. Still disappointed it doesn't have G-Darius, though. I already have a lot of the Darius games, and with Darius Burst having released at full retail price, they'd probably overcharge and lock a lot of the better games to a collector's edition just like in Japan. No thank you.
Yeah, this actually doesn't sound like a good collection. Half of the games are on the expensive collector's edition, Segaia is just another version of Darius II (so the standard edition may as well have come with 3 games unless you're that hardcore of a Darius fan), and it's missing a couple games from the previous Darius collection (most noteably G-Darius, a glaring omission, IMO) that was already released on the PS4 a few years ago. I like the Darius series, but I doubt this'd release in the west, and it definitely doesn't sound like it'd be worth importing, IMO...
I don't even listen to Guns 'n' Roses and I'm disappointed. Mega Man X5 was the only Mega Man game I had as a kid, and I always loved the cool-sounding names of the bosses. Now they're so generic, I could scarcely recognize them. I guess I won't be getting rid of my GCN Mega Man X Collection any time soon...
Maybe they consulted a better lawyer that could explain why it wouldn't have been worth it...because boy were the armchair analysts quick to point out the glaring flaws in their suits...
...To be fair, I can't think of that many JRPGs with DLC expansions, and the few I can think of weren't well recieved, or had multiplayer, where additional content helps to retain players' interest months after the initial release. Most just went for costumes/cosmetics/Easy-mode DLC that are...really not good practices, and if they didn't have it in from the start, they're definitely not worth adding in later. I mean, I'm glad they didn't bother, but unless I'm wrong and I just needed to look at the PSN/eShop DLC pages more thoroughly, I think you might be blowing it a bit out of proportion if you're implying that most JRPGs these days have DLC.
...Not that them sticking to their guns isn't a good thing, mind you. I'd rather they saved their new ideas & improvements for a more fleshed out sequel rather than bolt them on via DLC.
@JaxonH It was pretty fun, but keep in mind that I mostly played it last summer/fall, and they seemed to have taken steps to address most of my major concerns with it. I'll have to spend some more time with it to say whether or not it's in a good state now - when I played it, it was horribly unbalanced, some of the maps were terrible, grinding for cards was a pain, and there too many currency types that made the already-spotty UI confusing. But that was months ago, during the beta. The UI is better, there are less glitches, and definitely a more streamlined progression system, especially now that cards seem to be unlocked for all players right away. I also noticed a lot of balance changes and map improvements/new maps in the patchnotes since January, but like I said, I'd have to play more to really determine how much that helped.
But yeah, even before all that, I had fun with it. Fun characters, interesting mechanics, the card system allowed for a lot of variety, and the overall game modes kept me interested for a long time.
Founders packs usually included a couple free skins on other platforms, as well as access to all characters + future characters. I was glad I got it when I did on PS4, but it was no $30, I can tell you that...I think I spent $11.99 or thereabouts...that was on sale, mind you, but I think it was 40% off, the regular price was $19.99 at the time, IIRC...but that was a while ago, and you also had to grind for cards at the time, so getting the pack only removed half of the busywork. I'm glad they removed that bit, it made the game feel pay2win.
Now this looks amazing. Yeah, I'm also not a fan of puzzle-platforming, as I prefer to have the actual means of dealing with the things trying to kill me instead of...dropping blocks on them? But I don't mind it if they're going all out and trying to make it as exciting and varied as possible, and I like what I saw. Also seems to have some tense atmosphere, which should be a plus for a game centered around a mystery, and of course I love sci-fi.
Looks fun, though I doubt I'll get it. The last 5 times I got tricked into trying an RNG hack & Slash game, I regretted it and said I wouldn't bother again. Think I'll stick to it this time. I'd rather see the same level over and over again, instead of seeing the same environments constantly recycled, except it's a crapshoot as to whether or not the enemy placement, level layout, and items you can get will be interesting or fair, or even noticeably different. It's just a naked gameplay loop, and it's just not interesting to me anymore.
I can't wait for this, this looks so good! I love games like this, 2D with Zelda-like upgrades and at least some exploration, if not full-on Metroid levels. Plus, the movement and animations look slick, absolutely bursting at the seams with personality...definitely seems like it'll be worth the wait.
...that looked really boring compared to Elite Beat Agents, Gitaroo, and Parapa The Rapper, as well as others like Deemo (IIRC) that have already tried to do the whole "Storytelling meets rhythm" thing...because they actually meld the narrative and the rhythm gaming together. I didn't see any story in that trailer, no dymic scenes, nothing that's effected by or goes with the rhythm, simultaneously urging you to do well while keeping you engaged even if you're struggling. It just looks like yet-another rhythm game if the story and gameplay are separate entities...
Yeah, always liked the One Piece Warriors games, and felt they added more variety to the often-repetitive series/sub-genre. Up there with the likes of Fire Emblem and Hyrule Warriors, at least as far as fanservice goes, too.
I played this a lot on the PS4. It....has gone through a lot of rocky times. It's better now than it was before, and I think they picked a good time to put it up there. Not a whole lot of competition yet, and it's free, so I'd recommend at least giving it a try. It works well as a colorful shooter, can be really fun (though my personal favorite mode isn't in there anymore, and I'm not sure if they ever really improved the Conquest maps that were just plain garbage when I last played it). Plus, they've gotten a lot better about their monetization. Here's just hoping it runs as well as they're promising.
Sushi Striker and that's it. Also hope I see some reviews mentioning the differences between the two versions, because I'm getting the 3DS version unless the Switch version is factually better in comparison.
"The majority of what youāll see here is procedurally generated by a six-letter word which you enter before the game starts."
Ugh, now I remember why I was so hesitant about this one. Still, I also recall thinking that there was one I might still try in spite of the random nature, although I uh...am not sure if this was it? (EDIT: Nope, that was Moonlighter.)
...Maybe if it's ever on sale, I'll give it another look. 'Till then...
"I can win by spamming buttons" doesn't really hold up as a criticism to me anymore. Even in Marvel Vs Capcom 2, the problem wasn't button mashers, but the amount of attacks that had too much range and damage that felt unfair regardless of the level of play. In any fighting game, it's best to take advantage of an opening, and button mashing tends to leave you vulnerable more often than not.
@Shiryu I'll just leave off by saying that at least it sounds like its a good game at its core. It's reminding me more of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, and how that suffered from making it too clear that Capcom was offering less value to its customers. Less modes, less characters, a big chunk of DLC characters announced ahead of release (though not "a third/a half of the roster"), and a focus on a story mode that was light on fighting when they could've included an arcade mode, too - no excuses. The fact it was ugly in cutscenes doesn't help, either, but overall, it seemed like a good fighting game that left me and a lot of other people hoping to wait out the storm. And hopefully this one doesn't fade into obscurity like MvC:I seems to have...
@Shiryu I don't take much of an issue with DLC characters, usually, but yeah, 9 DLC characters available at launch is not a good thing. It just makes the $50 price point disingenuous, since they obviously had more done by the time the game was released that was simply taken out of the game, so they could hold up a massive carrot to tempt everyone with - did you really like the game, but your favorite character for any of the 4 series isn't in it? Do you just want more to play around with, or, perhaps you weren't really feeling the base game, but whose to say you won't enjoy it more if you tried these new characters?
I wouldn't mind if it was just a few characters stretched out over a period of time. It would help to maintain interest and player rates post-launch, and it's hardly new for Arc Sys games to have some DLC characters thrown in while they're working on the next iteration.
...But this is telling me that they don't want to make a second interation, and for me at least, that's disappointing. New iterations usually meant more story content, new extras to unlock, more singleplayer modes, which Arc Sys was always good at mixing up from game to game. Honestly, it looks like they took a page out of Capcom's SF5 playbook, and I don't think I regret anything more as a gamer than having bought Street Fighter V within the first month of its release. That model should not be emulated - it was a failed experiment, pure and simple.
And battle pack 1 is only free for a limited time. Otherwise, there are 40 Planned characters, only 20 of which are on disc and 18 are paid DLC. And that's what I take issue with, really. It'd be like if Capcom announced the release date for Ultra Street Fighter IV before Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition came out. It just looks like they're releasing a game before it's done and asking us to pay for it twice. Even if it's a lower initial price, I'm not gonna support such a practice when what I want is a complete experience.
Will wait for a complete edition or a steep price drop. Having half the cast stuck behind a paywall isn't my thing. I thought Injustice 2 was pushing it by confirming that 10 characters would be DLC so early in its release. You don't tell me that I have to wait another year to have all the planned content if you actually want me to buy your product this year! Sheesh! It's just insulting the intelligence of your audience, if you ask me.
@thiz I don't recall them announcing that half of the cast would be DLC back in the early 2000's. Or that they would willingly deny themselves free advertising. And I'm just now realizing that the PC version of Arcana Hearts 3: Love Max!!! was a Japan-only updated release with unique characters. I thought I followed their fighting game pretty closely yet that news slipped through the cracks. Just saying, they should probably welcome some free advertising, since they clearly are not willing to put much into advertising themselves.
No one cares about "spoilers," and the few who would are also the only ones fans you have that would be devoted enough to buy what is essentially half of a game, with the other half poised to be released as DLC somewhere down the line, during the first few months of release that publishers usually care so much about.
Seriously, their business decisions have been baffling lately...
...Maybe now the last one will go on sale on Steam. I'm really not interested in this new one, though. Cooperation? Teamwork? Screw that. I just want to win.
@Ralizah Exactly. I would've been perfectly fine with it if it was a Persona game, since that takes place in Japan, starring Japanese High School students. Even when it's in English, you have to assume they're speaking Japanese, and the English is a convenience for the sake of the player.
In Strange Journey, however, they're an international UN task force sent to research a global threat, so it would make sense if they all spoke a common language, which you would figure would be English. Instead they're all speaking Japanese, despite there only being...I think two Japanese characters, one of whom mostly spoke through Dialogue choice selections, assuming that he hasn't gotten any new speaking roles.
So once again, we have to assume that they're all speaking a different language, presumedly English, and the Japanese is there as a convenience for the player...most of whom are probably not familiar with Japanese, so it's subtitled in English. It all comes full circle!
I didn't notice there was no stereoscopic 3D or English voiceovers when I bought it. That really is a bummer. I'll still play it and probably enjoy it, but it's gonna be weird since most of the cast are not Japanese...
The lack of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper is a disappointment, but one I noticed and came to terms with since it was announced. Besides, Alpha 3 Max is still the best Street Fighter Alpha experience, IMO, and that's already portable.
"Super Chariot is a fitting metaphor for life ā you can journey alone and endure all hardships as you struggle to make your way to the end, or you can share the burden with another person and help each other reach new heights along the way."
...Or we could just not be pretentious, and realize that a game designed around a cooperative experience tends to be better when it's played the way it's intended. Sort of like how Tri-Force is a zillion times better with three players, simply because you don't have to cart around two dead weights around a level. Meanwhile, Four Swords Adventures just had the extra Links follow directly behind you, and had puzzle design in levels altered depending on how many players you had, allowing the gameplay to be fun no matter who you're playing it with.
Just saying, design is still important. And that metaphor felt eye-rollingly forced.
Wait, I don't get it, people were expecting Cloud Saves to be free from Nintendo's first online outing? I'd imagine the infrastructure was quite expensive, and Nintendo is loss-leading with their noteably low prices. It's a start, as was said in the article.
Oh good, now people can stop whining like a bunch of hurt puppies because they didn't want to release two console Monster Hunter games in directly competing time periods. Now we'll have one on each platform, where both can get their due-
People are still complaining anyways, because they didn't do it sooner. Even though World was localized simultaneously with development, and GU wasn't, because GU was made first for the 3DS, as an upgrade to the 3DS version, and then later ported as a way to test the water- You know what? Just screw the haters. I don't care anymore.
I knew BattleChasers was coming out on the Switch! I almost forgot when I went to Gamestop last weekend. Very nearly bought it used for the PS4 even though I thought I had been holding out for a Switch release. Glad I wised up.
If there are actual improvements: I'd buy it. It's up there with Secret of Mana on my list of "games that desperately need a remake that fixes its issues" - also alongside Metroid II, but that one actually did get that remake...as a fan game...
So....it's exactly like Ghouls 'n' Ghosts Arcade, from what I'm reading. And have played, I picked it up at a steep sale on PSN. Still, if you want a G'n'G knockoff, I don't think you'll find anything else more authentic. Just...personally, I'd rather play Ultimate Ghouls 'n' Ghosts. That really evolved the series beyond the original formula, and I felt that it was a fitting sendoff for the franschise, IMO.
i'm not getting a Switch until next year, so I'll have plenty of time to see how things play out. The features are exactly what I expected, and the lower price point puts Sony and Microsoft to shame - IF it works as intended. As with all new things, there might be unexpected hiccups to iron out. Here's hoping it's nothing severe, like what Sony's gone through over the years...
@8-Bit_Superman They never said they weren't. Hardware production usually gets easier and less costly over time, so this is just them being a sensible business. I mean, just look at their current 3DS line-up - a niche game and 4 ports/remakes - and so far I'm not seeing how you can interpret this as "taking resources away from their newest product." Don't forget, Nintendo always seems to bill their latest product as a "third pillar" despite rarely following through on that in terms of content or platform iterations. Even the newest 2DS XL looks like it's using parts from the New 3DS line.
I'm just saying, there really isn't a downside here. Not unless you also thought the DS genuinely impeded 3DS sales instead of, you know, the fact that the 3DS was $250 at launch.

@Mach_Rider Aaaand this is the North American eShop update. Not European eShop, and definitely not the Xbox One shop.
Anyways, I see it's on the 3DS eShop now, so it's all good.
Re: Nintendo Download: 24th May (North America)
...didn't have enough room for Sushi Striker on the Poll?
Also, wasn't the 3DS version of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon supposed to come out at the same time as the Switch version?
Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (Switch)
I'm just glad there's a complete edition so I don't have to feel like I'm missing out on content.
Re: Review: Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
I honestly prefer this over Real Bout 2. I prefer its characters and some of the move sets, and IMO, it just flows better.
Re: Review: Super Chariot (Switch)
Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves
Wait, I don't get it, people were expecting Cloud Saves to be free from Nintendo's first online outing? I'd imagine the infrastructure was quite expensive, and Nintendo is loss-leading with their noteably low prices. It's a start, as was said in the article.
Re: Review: Samurai Shodown III (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
I still liked this one for some reason. The faster pace can lend itself to some memorable moments, I think.
Re: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Hits Switch This August
Oh good, now people can stop whining like a bunch of hurt puppies because they didn't want to release two console Monster Hunter games in directly competing time periods. Now we'll have one on each platform, where both can get their due-
People are still complaining anyways, because they didn't do it sooner. Even though World was localized simultaneously with development, and GU wasn't, because GU was made first for the 3DS, as an upgrade to the 3DS version, and then later ported as a way to test the water- You know what? Just screw the haters. I don't care anymore.
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th May (North America)
I knew BattleChasers was coming out on the Switch! I almost forgot when I went to Gamestop last weekend. Very nearly bought it used for the PS4 even though I thought I had been holding out for a Switch release. Glad I wised up.
Re: New Splatoon Secret Project Is Set To "Shock The World" Just Days Before E3
This just in: They're Adding Pikachu as a Playable Character. More at 11.
Re: Review: Hyper Sentinel (Switch eShop)
"Super-Dreadnoughts"
Sold.
Re: Review: Immortal Redneck (Switch eShop)
@Aven It looks a lot like Serious Sam with procedural maps from the videos I've seen.
Re: Review: Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy (Switch eShop)
"The thoughtful inclusion of both Japanese and English voice tracks is great for fans, too"
Sold.
Re: The Man Behind The Wonder Boy: Dragon's Trap Remake Would Love To Tackle Zelda II
If there are actual improvements: I'd buy it. It's up there with Secret of Mana on my list of "games that desperately need a remake that fixes its issues" - also alongside Metroid II, but that one actually did get that remake...as a fan game...
Re: Review: Cast Of The Seven Godsends (Switch eShop)
So....it's exactly like Ghouls 'n' Ghosts Arcade, from what I'm reading. And have played, I picked it up at a steep sale on PSN. Still, if you want a G'n'G knockoff, I don't think you'll find anything else more authentic. Just...personally, I'd rather play Ultimate Ghouls 'n' Ghosts. That really evolved the series beyond the original formula, and I felt that it was a fitting sendoff for the franschise, IMO.
Re: Reaction: What are Your Thoughts on Nintendo Switch Online?
i'm not getting a Switch until next year, so I'll have plenty of time to see how things play out. The features are exactly what I expected, and the lower price point puts Sony and Microsoft to shame - IF it works as intended. As with all new things, there might be unexpected hiccups to iron out. Here's hoping it's nothing severe, like what Sony's gone through over the years...
Re: Swery65's The Good Life Will Come To Switch, But Only If It Hits $800K By The End Of The Day
Naturally they did not. Oh well, it still might get a port later, depending on how the final release is recieved.
Re: Nintendo Says 3DS Will Keep Being Sold Unless Switch Becomes A "One-Per-Person System"
Re: Nintendo Says 3DS Will Keep Being Sold Unless Switch Becomes A "One-Per-Person System"
@8-Bit_Superman Wait, why? What's to get upset over here?
Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd May (North America)
@Captain_Toad Weird...
