Re: Review: Tiny Barbarian DX (Switch)

I'll at least consider it on sale. It sounds very enjoyable, but even I'm not that bad with money...even back in the day, I'd expect a few weekend rantals ouint of this rather than a (budget) retail price. Well, at least consumers can vote with their wallets, at any rate.

Re: Introducing Uka, A Weaponised Life Form In Xenoblade Chronicles 2

CanisWolfred

Nice try, but not even kitsune chicks in bikinis could win me back at this point.

Maybe.

...I mean, depending on how the in-game model looks, and if she has a decent voice actress that isn't stupidly annoying...

Bah, who am I kidding? I might actually care about Tales of Xenoblades eventually because of this...just gotta give the boys on Pixiv time to "convince me"...

Re: Review: Culdcept Revolt (3DS)

Forgot this was out. I'll keep an eye out for it, for now I gotta save up for the holidays...really starting to see why Xmas always stressed out my family...kinda counter-intuitive, if you ask me...

Re: Review: Golf Story (Switch eShop)

CanisWolfred

Sweet, I'll try to keep this in mind when I get a Switch. Reminds me of Legend of a River King a bit, but not to the point where I'd rather play that instead. Seems like enough of its own thing.

Re: First Impressions: Hell in a Handbasket - DOOM on Nintendo Switch

CanisWolfred

Finally, Nintendo is truly DOOMED!!!!

...but yeah, it's a fun game. Updates the old style without taking away from what made them iconic in the first place. Never did try the multiplayer, but it looked fun. I needed to make space for more Overwatch patches, though, so I had to delete it on my PS4...I really need a new harddrive for that thing...

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

Damnit 2K!

...I mean, I don't really care for Basketball sims, but I'm obligated to say this considering they how often big publishers release buggy games like this, assuming that people who buy it will have ready access to the internet to download the patches they put out later down the line. More than a little anti-consumer in my opinion.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Stories (3DS)

CanisWolfred

I'm glad some like it, but I still can't help but look at this and say "what's the point?" I've got enough JRPGs that are more interesting, including monster raising games, that I just don't see what makes this appealing. If I want Monster Hunter, I'll play Monster Hunter. If they're gonna make a spin-off, I'd rather they use it as an opportunity to make something unique and distinct.

Re: Feature: Morphite Devs Explain Why It's Much More Than Just "No Man's Sky On Switch"

CanisWolfred

...wait, who thought this was comparable to No Man's Sky? No Man's Sky didn't have "Low-Poly Visuals", nor does this seem to be a "romp around the universe for no good reason outside of sheer self-motivated curiousity and individual goals" type of game, a-la Elite. This looks a lot more like Ratchet & Clank or Metroid Prime - which I see even the dev name-drops.

I mean, I'm glad the dev went out of their way to answer questions and tell us more about the game, but I'm just sort of amazed at how people can pull these sort of statements out of their bumhole and still get taken seriously. The initial trailer and press release were enough to debunk the No Man's Sky comparisons, at least in terms of what was actually unique to that game, and not just increasingly prevelent trends that space exploration games are incorporating (not just Indie games, either. Even games like Mass Effect: Andromeda is arguably more similar considering what they've said here and before).

Whatever, this game does look interesting, although I'll have to look for extended footage after it's out, since I honestly hate the low-poly look. At least in first person, since I find that everything sort of blends together, and it becomes increasingly difficult to tell what I'm looking at as things progress. Not exactly something you want when something can pop out and kill you at a moment's notice.

Re: Review: LEGO Worlds (Switch)

CanisWolfred

Kind of surprised that you even bothered with the review with a game that, as far as I could tell, looking at the Steam page, had an extensive online component (arguably the draw, if not at least a major component), but I guess it'll give me a chance to see the potential difference in opinion between a game that's experienced totally singleplayer, and the later experience after playing the online mode.

Re: Video: Catch Up With the Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase and PAX West Trailers

CanisWolfred

Some nice surprises I didn't expect. I'm already looking forward to Suda51's collaboration and the last Shovel Night DLC/side-story, but I didn't expect to find something Battle Chef or Golf Story interesting until I saw them. After The Legend of the River King and Weapons de Omasse, I think I'm up for more quirky twists on the RPG formula. I still like the classic formula, however, so Lost Sphear has my interest as well.

Gear.Club Unlimited also looks like it'll fill a much needed niche in the Switch's library. Definitely keeping my eye on that one.

Also, Dandara looks fresh as heck for what could've easily been yet another sprite-based platformer.

Not sure how I feel about Inti Create's new game, though. Normally Co-Op-focused RPGs bore the heck out of me. I'd need more info, I guess.

Re: Feature: A Breakdown of the New Nindie Gems Heading to the Switch eShop

CanisWolfred

Huntdown looks pretty sick, can't wait for that one. Petroglyph's also been kind to me in the past, so I'll be keeping an eye on their Lego RTS there.

...wait, that's supposed to be 8-bit? Bullcrap!...well, I guess that's one way to avoid a lawsuit. <_<

Anyways, while there are some really out-there games on that list, most of those aren't my bag, so I guess I'll be boring and list the all the usual highlights that caught my interest:

SteamWorld Dig 2 (Image & Form)
Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom (FDG Entertainment)
Yoku's Island Express (Team 17)
AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected (Playdius)
Hollow Knight (Team Cherry)
Battle Chasers: Nightwar (THQ Nordic)
Owlboy (D-Pad Studio)
State of Mind (Daedalic Entertainment)
World To The West (Rain Games)
Rogue Trooper Redux (Rebellion)
WarGroove (Chucklefish)
TINY METAL (Area 34)
Portal Knights (Keen Games)
Brawlout (Angry Mob Games)
Constructor Plus (System 3)

Hearty list, at least. A lot to look forward to.
