Capcom is often the target of exasperation and mockery among video game followers. Its treatment of the Mega Man series is a case in point, with high profile instances of cancelled games and the disappointing disappearance of the franchise after Mega Man 10. Then the company confirmed projects for a cartoon and even a movie, while many asked "and when's the next game?"
Well, good things do come to those who wait, with a whole bunch of announcements earlier this week to make gamers smile. The Switch is in on the action, too, which is the best thing about it; the following were revealed.
- Mega Man 11 is coming to the Switch in late 2018
- Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Coming to Switch in Spring, with amiibo Support
- All the Mega Man X games are coming to the Switch in Summer 2018
That's a lot of Mega Man (pretty much every main game released to date), and pleasingly alongside all the retro goodness there is a new game - that's arguably the most important thing.
It's all rather exciting, and now that the dust has settled a little and we've all stepped off the initial hype train we want to know what you think. Do you like the look of Mega Man 11, are you pleased about the Legacy Collection announcement? Let us know in the polls and comments below.

I'm so happy that the slide is back! Also glad to see Rush will be assisting Mega Man in his new adventure
We'll see when the reviews come out.
I'm not a Megaman fan, but I am pleased for those who are, and also happy because it shows an increased level of support from a major third party developer in a big way. It's a major deal to have games like these appear alongside their PS4/XBO counterparts.
Bring Darkstalkers back (and 2D fighters since personally I dont care for any of the 3D fighters they made so far.).
Super excited about the X series release. I predicted it before the event but doubted it would actually be a reality. Cautiously optimistic about MM11. Looks so much like Mighty No 9, somewhat off putting. Hoping it turns out good tho and it's a Sonic Forces style debacle!
Really good news, I think that Mega Man games are perfect for Switch.
I'm very hopeful for MM11. I'm also very glad Legacy Collection 1 & 2 are coming to the Switch.
I'm less excited about the X collection though. I've never been a fan of the X series. I tried them a couple of times but never could get into it. But I'm happy for the folks who do love it of course.
I think it looks really good so far. My only concern, is that is looks exactly like 20XX (Roguelike, Mega Man clone) to me. That's not a bad thing, but I do wonder if it's going to add much to the genre. I feel like 20XX did an excellent job in Capcom's absence. Still quite excited.
Next step: resurrect Megaman ZX on switch and create a proper megaman zero collection on switch.
I hope they won't go for a remake of the 2 hundred battle network games.
I"ll be getting all of these even though I have most of the older ones on my modded NES and SNES and the first 6 on my 3DSXL. Portable all the megamans!
I'm conflicted. On one hand, the Mega Man 11 announcement was my favorite part of the broadcast, especially since it brings back the slide and charge shot, and also seems to add some mysterious new mechanic. On the other hand, Mega Man 10 was the last new game in the franchise before it suffered an 8-year hiatus. I want to be optimistic and say "Mega Man is BACK, baby!" but who's to say that Capcom's gonna make more games after this? Capcom's gotta do a bit more than one new game and a bunch of ports to revive my faith in them.
I expect we will see more of this next year from Japanese developers, who will suddenly come out of the woodwork to support the Switch after many of them wrote it off this year, only for it to become the most popular console in their home territory.
I'd rather have had a Sonic Mania-kind of MegaMan 11, or even a MegaMan collection in the style of Sonic Generations with the best levels of past games but it'll do, I suppose.
Im just happy we arent being shafted on this
I'll say again, if the X games are on one collection Im excited, bit the wording worries me they will be separate
I can't wait until i am playing all of these games on the Switch, the only games I have played from the series are 2, X and 7 so these collections will be a real treat for me! I really wish it included Mega Man Legends, I rented that game as a kid and have fairly fond memories of it and as such would love to play it again.
@Daruncic I've been thinking about that too. It's not really clear from what I've read whether they will all be in one package or a la cart.
@Daruncic Pretty sure I know which game will sell the least. Can't wait to see X7's sales BURN TO THE GROUND! BURN TO THE GROUND!
I like the style of Mega Man 11. It's similar to a forgotten PSP classic "Mega Man: Powered Up" (which was GREAT). I'm also excited that they aren't continuing to mine the design style of the NES series, because (while very solid games) Mega Man 9 and 10 really should be the swan song of the retro aesthetic Mega Man era.
My best friend is the biggest Mega Man fan you'll find around. During yesterday's announcement I thought I heard him yell from another State. It's a perfect for the Switch, I'm just hoping it runs well at this point.
I am excited to see him back, but it's a little too early for me to say whether I 100% am or not. Mega Man 11 looks great (and better than that certain other "game"), but aside from revealing the Blue Bomber regaining his Slide and Charge abilities (take a hint, 9 and 10!), I need to see more info for the game before fully being on board with it. The Legacy Collections and X games coming to Switch is also nice.
Excited for Megaman? Yes. Excited for Capcom? Nope!
hoping for the best, expecting the worst.
I love megaman, but this is capcom we're talking about
I'm super excited for Mega Man 11 along with the legacy collections with 2, 3 and 9 being particular highlights but all are great. The X games less so, the first few were very good but the later ones were pretty awful with constant text on screen and auto aiming taking all the fun out of it. Classic Mega Man is where it's at and I'm not even upset by the HD graphics as I've still got plenty of 8 bit goodness coming my way 😃
Now we just need others to take note, Castlevania anyone?
@Biff_ARMStrong this reason alone is why MegamanX is far superior
I am excited for the new Mega Man 11. The legacy collections I owned on 3DS before I sold the system, but would be willing to buy again if the price is right. I've never played the X versions of Mega Man. I've seen a lot of positive things said about the series and will be looking forward to those as well.
Though I'm excited for Mega Man 11, from what I've seen, I'm not sure its worth a full price of $59.99. If its around $40 I'm in, otherwise I'll have to think about it.
@EternalDragonX Mega Man X is crap compared to the original series. Starting the game out gimped and going on a scavenger hunt sucks.
Just bought Legacy Collection 1 on a Steam sale, will get 2 when it's older and on an equally good sale, and will likely do the same for the X games and 11. I don't do much handheld gaming as it is with my 3DS, so the portability factor of the Switch doesn't faze me. If a game is on Steam, there I will buy it (on sale). When I eventually get a Switch it will primarily be for first-party games.
Interested to see how the collections are released, price, etc.......as far as Mega Man 11 goes..........well I'm adopting a wait and see approach. It has to be better then Mighty #9 right........right?
Honestly the X games coming to Switch is what excited me the most although I'm super excited for Mega Man 11. The Legacy Collections on Switch were the only things I was realistically hoping for, and we got those too!
Only wish Megaman Legends was announced. It was very sad when the 3DS game was cancelled
Awesome news! Now I just gotta beat Mega Man 2.5D
The Mega Man fan base right nao:
I haven't played any of the Mega Man X games after SNES so I'm looking forward to see just how terrible the later ones are.
Eh, would have much preferred the game to look more like its pixelised predecessors. That minor cavil aside, it's good to know that Capcom have opted to go with the traditional 2D look in this latest installment of the Rockman titles. Dunno why the Blue Bomber walks like a marionette, though...
@redd214 I'm pretty sure the X games are going to be a collection. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. To have every mainline game a collection, but then to suddenly be able to purchase each X game separately? That would be Virtual Console's job haha. Especially weird if I could buy x7 and x8 by themselves XD
As for MM11, I'm pretty excited. Would be awesome if they give it the same production value as MEGAMAN Powered Up. That was a great game hahaha.
I've played all of the classic and X-series games with the exception of X8. I'm excited to own all of them in HD on the Switch. Having all these classic games on a hybrid console is going to be perfect. Also I'm super excited for Megaman 11. It already looks pretty fun.
I am a fan to the point that I will buy all of these day 1 because of nostalgia and excitement. Already 2018 is going to be a great year. And I can’t wait to see next years big games. This fall was full of surprises and now look. If x is slated for summer, then numbered games should be spring and 11 prob after . No matter, now just gives us monster hunter too capcom. Mh5 would be amazing. I bought both sf2 and resident evil collection games. Keep them coming.
Hope the emulation/porting of the classics turns out well.
Will the legacy editions be released as one, two or three parts?
About time for some new blue bomber games. I would like to see maybe even a new X series game as well
Since it will be probably done by the same team behind Mega Man 9 and 10 and is being directed by the person behind Strider 2014, Mega Man 11 should be in good hands
It's crapcom, not hyped at all
The announcement was cool, but I wouldn't say it was exciting to me. There are enough games in my backlog that do excite me, so I don't see myself playing any of these games.
Just wondering, will it be a full-price game for the switch? The megaman games usually used 8-10 stages, but that still feel too short now for a game... that will left it as a eShop game, which make me a bit sad for a Megaman game.
I never beat any of the classic games back on the GameCube collection or tried 9 and 10, so this is an amazing chance to relive the past. Super hype about the X games as I used to play those a ton. MM11 is also looking nice. All I need now is a battle network collection lol.
Should be exciting with all the great new platformer's that are out. I'd love to work on this title....
Will buy all of them for the right price. Also hoping the Legacy Collection is one package instead of two.
Now where’s the Disney Collection and Okami? I’d buy those for any price.
The very idea that Mega Man 11 is finally happening, it just makes me so happy!
I have great memories of the Mega Man games, but I overplayed them to the point that I'm just done with the series. I can't see myself returning. However if I can get 9 and 10 for cheap, I might get those since they're my favorites.
11 looks pretty terrible, at least visually.
MM11 is pleasing to my ears and totally wasn't expecting it, but I'm still kinda reserving some hype until I hear more of the details about it and who "literally" is working on it (Capcom developing and publishing vs Capcom just publishing). It matters to me, since Inti-Creates is composed of a lot of the people who have worked on MM historically and also specifically handled MM9 and 10, which makes me worried and excited at the same time (Though I'll play it either way lol).
I'm very excited to have all the MMX's though, as I have pined since the Gamecube era to finally play X7 and X8, so for me, that was my favorite moment.
I’m cautiously optimistic about all of these.
I'm very excited about all of this news, but something deep inside of me is getting Mighty No. 9 flashbacks... So I won't get TOO optimistic...
Mega man x collection all the way!!!!!!
Capcom has one chance to make Mega Man Legacy Collection worth the purchase which is bundling all ten games into one single package. Adding the original Mega Man & Bass on it would be a dream come true, but I'll keep my expectations low. If they simply flog the two separate collections on the eShop, then I'll gladly give it a skip.
Mega Man X Collection is a sure buy for me, as long as all 8 games are bundled together, of course.
Mega Man 11 looks nice but also gives me Mighty No. 9 flashbacks so I'll reserve my judgment for late 2018.
I'm really conflicted on how I feel about this. On the one hand, Mega Man is one of my favorite game series in general. On the other hand, I did not like Mega Man 9 or 10 at all and I'm afraid 11 may be more or the same.
Hopefully this was result in a Mega Man X9.
Always preferred the more serious tone and designs in the X series; although did become excessive later on. I really just wanted to play X1-X6. I know its on PS2 collection but once I purchase an 8Bitdo pad it'll be like back on the SNES.
I hope they add REWIND into the Mega Man collections, and bundle them together for Switch maybe even
A proper D-Pad is so needed now it's unreal. Luckily I have my lil 8bitdo wonder but a first party option or better yet a D-pad Joycon would be really nice.
Getting all on day 1!
@Biff_ARMStrong You mean starting off the game like a regular megaman game and then turning into a badass is somehow worse than being regular and crappy the whole game?
@CptProtonX
Konami...TAKE THE HINT! Castlevania collection, Gradius collection, and all things Hudson Soft. GET ON IT!
THIS!
I'm not really excited for MM11, but I am excited at the likelihood of spin-off series like X, Legends, and Battle Network being given Collections or Sequels, respectively.
I’ve never tried a Mega Man game, so I am interested but all this is a little overwhelming. I’d be fine with a Mega Man 2 vc style release for starters.
Konami We’re waiting for a new Contra!
@EternalDragonX Starting off with a tiny health bar and rather going from start to finish I have to go on a pointless collect-a-thon. That's dumb, and you are forced to or the last boss will wreck you. I'm not arguing with a lunatic fanboy. Go away.
Of course!
This game is looking pretty good if I say so myself. I definitely want more of this.
How are you supposed to play these with out a Dpad?
I would probably exclusively play with the pro controller. Shame about no Dpad in handheld.
@flapjack-ashley Agree.
lets see how well they port the games.
I whole-heartedly believe the look and feel of Mega Man 11 is a dig at Mighty Number 9.
The collections I'll wait and see if they pull weird changes to the port like they did on the gamecube.
I'm glad all of them found a home on the Switch. Hopefully this means the blue bomber will stick around longer.
I have never been a big Mega Man guy, but I am glad the series isn't dead and is coming back to Nintendo where it belongs.
Supe excited for MegaMan 11. This will be perfect on the Switch
I think its a little too little, 8 years for one new game, how something about x9 or legends 3. Hell, even a battle network or starforce collection would be a nice surprise. Its better than the last two anniversaries of a fan game, and xover.
As long as it’s not too frustrating, I’m game. I’ve enjoyed what I have played of the series for the most part, but I usually quit part way through in frustration. Maybe I’m just losing my patience.
Very big Switch announcements- I had a feeling after the resident evil collections hit that this could happen. Now all Capcom has to do is remember that they have tons of other classics as well besides Mega Man.
The one thing that really irked me the most during the N64 days was watching a lot of my favorite series drift over to PlayStation. Mega Man was chief among them. I appreciated the games that did go to later consoles, but not all of them ever came over.
But with the announcements, I see a completely legit attempt by Capcom to give Nintendo gamers the complete main line of Mega Man games, the X games too, of course. Personally, I'm very happy to see that. Hopefully this means Capcom is now taking the Switch seriously for it's other franchises. Time will tell, I guess.
When will Nintendo do this for Super Mario Bros and Mario world games?
@Biff_ARMStrong At the point where the X-series has a massive herd of "lunatic fanboys" that love... most of the games, perhaps Mega Man X doesn't suck; you just don't enjoy it as much as the Classic series.
I'll be buying all of these except for Legacy Collection 1 since I already have that on 3DS.
It's great to see Mega Man back. Hopefully Capcom finally got to their senses and will stop cancelling Mega Man games for no reason and stop omitting MM games on Nintendo platforms. Hopefully we get MM Legends 1 and 2 HD and get a revial of Legends 3.
@Kayfios So you're defending lunatic fanboys as they go after people who express passion towards the original series. By acting like a goofball and trying to rub in the X series is better. That's annoying.
Wait what?! When?! Holy crap this is amazing!!!
Wait, let's watch the trailer first...
...Uh-oh, 3D graphics??? Getting Mighty No.9 flashbacks...but...wait...it actually looks good...like, really good...holy crap, Mega Man really is back, baby!!! I gotta get caught up, and finish the first 10 games....I always leave off on the Wily stages for some reason...
@Biff_ARMStrong Actually, I didn't notice @EternalDragonX 's comment. I thought you were serious in saying X sucks simply because you didn't like it. Yeah. Blind closed-minded fanboys are obnoxious. -_-
@Kayfios and I do like the X series, but I don't think it's nearly as good as the original series due to all the collecting. That's just my opinion. I get why people like the X Series better though
@Biff_ARMStrong Personally, I wish Capcom would bring Mega Man back with something other than the Classic series. I loved 9, 10 was alright, but the series has so much more to offer. And that goes beyond the X series, too. (Although, admittedly, I've only played the first MMX, ZX, and 1-10 from the classic series. I oughtta do a marathon sometime...)
@Megasone It was an anniversary for Classic Mega Man. More games can come later, but it is important for this to sell to make that happen. Plus I don't think you can fairly say it is too little, too late after seeing 1 stage in a 1 minute trailer.
I'm not holding my breath. After this they'll probably just toss him back down a hole for another 5 years.
Also, i'd prefer they give us the Legends series. All I have to play from the original series is 8, and i'm not interested in X at all.
YES
I feel a bit left out not being massively excited by this. But all support is welcome. The more the merrier.
Dev. hyped!
mega man 11 made me a fan of capcom again.
WOW Nintendo fans supposed to get excited for ports of old games from Capcom while a new shiny Monster Hunter gets released everywhere else next month, and with a beta over this weekend.Excuse me for not wetting my pants over this
For being a classic megaman anniversary that didnt stop them from announcing all 8 megaman x games coming to current gen consoles, so i dont think its unfair to want a statement of "hey were working on other new megaman things along side 11." For your other point i have no reason to believe its anything different from the other 10 games aside from a couple small quality of life things and a new coat of paint.
@Biff_ARMStrong I honestly forgot about the health bar. I still prefer MegamanX though. Best Megaman was Megaman 8 for Playstation. I absolutely loved the art style, i wish the new one had that look.
