Well I for one am very happy to see this, and it makes me hopeful for picking 4, to me it makes sense to drop this before releasing a new one. I did own it (it was actually my first dip into the franchise) and enjoyed it, but didn’t finish it and ended up selling my WIi U and all the games to fund buying the Switch.
I think people need to relax a little, if people enjoy the games being re-released and are happy to pay the price then so be it! A lot of the ports have been new to me games, ones I missed out on at the time of their initial release and it’s never bothered me one bit buying them now. Gaming is my chill out time, I’m just happy to see games I know I will enjoy playing being put out. I also don’t see this being the only thing to appear this year.
Well that’s a let down, I was hoping this would be worth picking up but there are too many cons listed for my liking. I can usually let graphics slide a touch, but they don’t sound great and then if you add poor performance on top of that, it sounds like I would be more likely to end up super frustrated rather than having fun. What a shame
I can totally respect the amount of man ours it must have taken to make this but for my taste, it’s just too crowded and messy. I used the dream thing for the first time yesterday, and while it’s cool it’s also super weird with the ncps and villagers chatting to you about dreams 😂
@muscpt no the dreaming allows you to visit other people’s (who aren’t on your usual friends list I believe) islands. It doesn’t affect the mystery islands mechanic.
I have no issue with taking elements of a fantastic game and making it your own but there’s a lot in this that just feels lazy, enemies, most of the landscape and even the sounds are all near identical. To me that’s boring, I don’t know what the plot is of the game but I promise that if it’s similar too then this is just going to play like BOTWs poor relation and be a dull experience, which in a way is a shame.
So much potential wasted I fear, if only they had been brave enough to shift away further from the game they have obviously taken inspiration from (or ripped off style wise, take your pick!)
Having played both Samorost and Machinarium through more than once this is an absolute must buy for me. Their games are so beautifully melancholic, relaxing and just an all round lovely experience.
Oh how I miss my Amiga! It was my first personally owned machine and saw me through my early teens while I was physically unable to play outdoors. So many games; All the dizzy games, pang, rainbow island (this was one of my favs!), the lure of the temptress (loved this to death)
I’ve logged close to 900 hours so far, and haven’t missed a day yet, I love the way the updates work, just when I start to think I’m out of stuff to do a wee update occurs and it’s fresh as a daisy again. Long may it continue!
I’ve always been really hopeful that this was further along in production than many expected. Because it shares a lot in common with the first and there were countless rumours about areas/developments that they didn’t include in the first game but that were fully realised that maybe they didn’t have a huge task ahead to complete tBOTW2. So I’m going to keep on clinging to a possible Christmas release. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
This is a lovely article! Have to say I’m pretty jealous. I’m nearer dads age but always wanted my parents to show an interest. They still think I’m a saddo for playing games.
@nessisonett I think it’s a little crazy to suggest they only post articles that everybody is going to have the same opinion on no? When is that ever going to happen? Debate is healthy 😉
More pattern slots would be great! Or even a storage type system for them so you can keep the ones you like or have previously used.
The idea of a multi player off island area sounds interesting but having visited a very heavily built up island which was at full capacity my fear is that it would be seriously laggy!
So far I’ve loved the slow release of updates, it keeps things fresh, I really struggle to understand the anger at having to wait. But then there’s such a culture of wanting things yesterday and hating to wait, so why wouldn’t that filter down to the game too.
My son bought and has already played his way through TLOU2. He was a huge fan of the original so had high hopes.
He was a little thrown by the switch up in the character you played but in the end he thought it was a clever move that took you from completely hating a character, to understanding they have a backstory too.
He loved the game and is now working towards completing the collectibles.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that tumble roll dive into the water. That in itself has been entertaining enough for me to rewatch the trailer several times. 🙈😂
I like the look of this and will be keeping my eye out for it. The arts type is lovely, and from the snippet of dialogue showcased, it sounds like it should be a lot of fun. Add in puzzles and a 3D platform style and it’s sure to be a winner in my book!
My score was so awful I don’t think I want to share 😂 even ones I was dead certain on... can somebody dress up as a nun and ring a bell behind while shouting shame please?
I use it with ACNH, the in game chat is a nightmare so this app has been a definite improvement, otherwise using in game it can feel like it’s taken you a week to write ‘thank you’ during a trade. 🙄
My island really isn’t all that urban and there’s a mess of flowers trying to take over the world! But it’s a 5-star rating....
ETA: I do think there can be a balance found in the game and I’ve worked hard to keep any furniture within a certain aesthetic, avoiding almost all the big things you can get from nook Miles for example, going for more of a small town vibe.
I would love to see more than the one pic of the writers island, LOVE to see what other people have done.
19/25. Do I get a prize for this seeing as ACNH is my first ever play of the series?! But over 400hrs play cancels my newbie status you say? Hmmm unfair.
Not sure how to vote as the not sure doesn’t cover how I feel.
I would be happy for them to release a digital only so long as they also offered a physical version like PS have.
Personally I love collecting the games, displaying them like I do with my books (I still don’t own a kindle or similar!) so I would prefer to have the option to continue to do that.
Just don’t get too excited about the bonus materials. I’m still waiting for my Animal Crossing pins, which were the only reason I bought directly from Nintendo and didn’t try to find cheaper elsewhere.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing. I’ve recently completed an English degree but it’s becoming more and more apparent that learning some form of programming or tech training isn’t just something that might be interesting but could mean the difference between me finding a job or not!
Well that was a nice wee read! New Horizons is my first animal crossing game so I perhaps read this differently to those of you who have played the others. It was interesting to see the differences and similarities, and to see how careful they have been to keep the new game true to its roots.
@popey1980 it’s a beautiful representation of how used to living at a fast pace everyone is. We are all far to use to being able to get things right now that waiting is painful. Personally I’m getting a real kick out of moving and adding things day by day and waiting for purchases in the post. Not to mention I’m happy for the game not to feel completed any time soon!
I’m a newbie to the series so I’m not bored in the slightest! I don’t time travel so I’m moving a building a day, taking my time with terraforming as I don’t want to change it, ruin something and not be able to put it right. 🙈
I’m also playing multiplayer A LOT and I think that makes all the difference. I had people over fishing in the rain the other day to catch some Colecanth and it was great fun chatting with them and watching them catch stuff they didn’t have.
I’m sure I will slow the pace at some point but for now I’m still hammering the hours into it
Oh I will have to tune in, he’s one of those actors that’s just beyond underrated, not one I seek out but always find him to be a star turn when I do watch him. Very curious to see what his islands like.
