If you've played previous Animal Crossing entries, you'll know the latest entry on the Switch - Animal Crossing: New Horizons - was slightly underdone on release. Since then, Nintendo has rolled out a bunch of updates (containing new items, buildings, features and characters) to keep players returning to their island.
The wave one summer update will reintroduce swimming and diving, and even a new water encounter with Pascal the otter. Before you can jump in, though, you're going to need a wet suit - remember those? Yep, just like in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you'll need to be wearing the right outfit before you can take a dip in the deep sea.
So how can you get one and most importantly - how much will it cost? Well, according to Nintendo's official Japanese website, you'll be able to purchase one of these fancy wet suits from Timmy and Tommy's shop for approximately 3,000 Bells.
Alternatively, you'll be able to trade in 800 Nook miles to get a special Nook Inc. wet suit delivered to your mailbox (see above). Nintendo will also be sending a letter containing a snorkel coloured either red, yellow or blue.
Will you be diving back into Animal Crossing: New Horizons on 3rd July to try out this update? Tell us below.

I’m looking forward to the new sea creatures for the museum.
3000 bells, or 500 nook miles (one bell voucher, which is also worth 3000 bells)
Wow, snorkeling googles !
Wetsuit as usual, wonder if there are color variations.
Can we have some speedo and bikini ?
So no skinny dipping... Noted!
I have well over 100k in Nook Miles so I can afford it.
Ouch, let me check my savings...
You probably need to do some things first before you can just buy a wetsuit like with anything else but what we still don't know so theres probebly more to this update that they don't want to tell us yet...?
Oh great! This gives me a reason to return to the game! New stuff to do! Exactly what I wanted!
Finally! A new use for Nook miles (even though it is barely anything, something is something)
I would have totally paid in real dollars for this. I'm overjoyed with what they've done with this game. The developers need to get a good bonus.
@ArtiomNLS the only cost is for the actual swim suit which is a one-time purchase. It’s not like you need to buy a new swimsuit everytime.
Will Southerners have to wait 6 months to be able to swim.
Or will be be swimming in the near freezing winter waters? Oohhh chilly.
@Gurtelytis
Nintendo hasn't told us how this affect the southerners now currently in summer.
You can poop with your pants still on but you still need a swimsuit for swimming?
@KoopaTheQuick
Spoilers? Those are official news from Nintendo itself! It was announced in the Switch news channel, and the screenshots in this article are from Nintendo‘s website...
@vanYth I think you’re confusing a “leak” and a “spoiler”. Something can still be spoiled for a player, even by an official announcement.
@KoopaTheQuick
I love to get informations rather than being clueless when playing games.
Neither cost is a problem. Bells and nook miles are in abundance.
I don't think it's "underdone" so much as adding features over time to keep people interested. Adding it through patches means that people that set different dates on their switch won't enjoy things before everyone else too.
God stuff. Can't wait to collect all of the deep sea creatures.
I can't exactly dive BACK in if I never got out in the first place.
@the8thark Like our waters here in Blighty?
Seems cool but wow so dissapointed in the diving, I was expecting to actually swim under water and maybe find things on the see floor and see fish and coral etc
Sounds fun for a game I never left and has become like doing my “dailies” in Warcraft. Now if, after at least 6 failed attempts, they would let me use my slingshot to catch the scorpion instead...
The headline scared me then... I thought it was going to 3,000 a session or to get a ticket to go diving
@LavaTwilight
Cool story
@BruceLeroy not sure if sarcastic or genuine but thanks
I didn't think the base game was underdone, though I didn't play a lot of New Leaf. Before any of the updates came through I still felt like I had tons to do and there was plenty of depth. The updates via patches etc. makes sense to prevent people breaking the game and spoiling it for all. NL couldn't stop themselves doing this with only a week to wait 😏
I prefer to have as much of the game as possible on cart, sure. But as my first real experience of a 'games as a service' (albeit one that hasn't cost me extra, so far), I'm enjoying the steady introduction of new content. I've kept my village ticking over and was wondering where to go from here, so it's a welcome boost and will keep me motivated when the next inevitable lull comes and we await a new patch.
Good job Nintendo 👍
@playstation_king It was disappointing a bit, but after reading your comment I thought it was literally going to be just you jump in the water and then pop back out carrying an item, no swimming or anything. That's how diving works in XC2. So, I finally decided to watch the trailer and instead of being disappointed I was actually relieved we get to swim. So thanks for the warning and setting up my oh so low expectations such that even that limited swimming seemed like a good thing to me.
I have about 350,000 nook miles and 4,400,000 bells so I'll just squeak by on the bathing suit and diving equipment purchases.
@Branovices Yup. Pretty sure it’s the time travelers faults too and they’re the ones mostly complaining about this kind of stuff. Because they can’t time travel and do everything from month 1 lmao
I'll be honest, I was ready to move on. My island and house are complete. I don't have a desire to own every item in the game. The only things I'm doing still are the songs, art, bugs, and fish. For those, I'm not logging in daily anymore.
..... But I will check this update out for sure. This is the first Animal Crossing game I've got into. Others I bought, played for a couple hours, then gave up on. Since day one of New Horizons, I questioned why my villager couldn't swim! I'm excited!
I still think Nintendo could make some money if they sold a vacation home dlc where it let you have a second island in the opposite hemisphere.
@playstation_king Nope. It was like this in the previous game too. Animal Crossing likes to keep things simple and to the point.
@dkxcalibur You already pretty much live in a vacation home. And they’ve already made plenty of money with the game on its own and with how many people pay for Nintendo Online. People would complain if they had to pay for DLC for any reason. *****, they’re already complaining about free updates so it’s probably be worse then.
Man I’m just hoping that those wet suits aren’t our only options. I want a cute two piece swimsuit. Just sell them at the able sisters.
@LavaTwilight article assumes that people got bored and stopped playing lmao a lot of people art still playing 3 months in.
Watch out for those Shark attacks now....or Piranha...
@KarmaGoona No doubt people would complain. But the truth is that gamers buy dlc or the developers wouldn't do them anymore. Personally, I would spend money for a second island.
@dkxcalibur me too! Great idea! Why hasn't this been suggested before... even if you can't duplicate some of the island services I think that would be a great idea! Don't know about opposite hemisphere though...
Looks like a fun moment here that is finally returning from the 3DS release of the series.
I do have a question though I wonder. Is this already hiding in the game, or are the making this a download expansion? I really hope it's just a timed unlock as this means you'll lose a good chunk of accessibility to the game in some distant future as legit downloads aren't forever.
@the8thark winter of southern hemisphere beggined 6 days ago.
@FlashBoomerang
And the rest. Obviously you're not a southerner.
@the8thark actually in Brazil where i live we are in Winter, all Animal Crossing New Horizons updates is of global amplitude i believe, soon Animal Crossing New Horizons is gonna have a Fall and Winter update, since all updates now cover the seasons of North Hemisphere.
@the8thark i think logic don't apply apply here in the game, you fit everything in your Pocket with no ill afect, only with the limitation of 40 spaces to hold itens.
that actualy quite easy to get the Wetsuit, now i have another reason to spent my Nook Miles or Bells.
@Entrr_username you take your pants off to poop? Weirdo!
@the8thark É tão óbvio assim? Imagina se não fosse. KKKKKKKK.
@Giancarlothomaz Joga Splatoon 2 ou algum outro jogo multi online?
@ArtiomNLS I feel like it’s going to be like the umbrella, they’ll offer different varieties daily and won’t have to dispose of it
I’ve now got more bells and nook miles than I can ever spend, so charge away.
@BruceLeroy
Is this (The) BruceLeroy, the champion Arms fighter/2K baller? 😀
NL in this article: "Animal Crossing: New Horizons - was slightly underdone on release"
Also NL: gives it a 10/10
The Nook Suit is cuter. I want that one.
Hey, that’s my birthday! Thanks Nintendo for the gift!
Oh no, Tom Nook has embraced the paywall strategy!!!
@Anti-Matter don’t think we will that seems a bit inappropriate for a kids game people might make weird videos...
