In case it had slipped your mind, here's a friendly reminder that today is the wonderful, magical time of year known as Toy Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
If you're not the sort who jumps into the game every single day regardless, you might want to make an exception today to see all of the festive fun taking place on your island. The festivities kick off at 5am on 24th December and last for one full day – you'll know the event is live because special music will be playing on your island.
The first thing you'll want to do is find Jingle, the black-nosed reindeer; he'll ask you to deliver presents to other islanders and help to get you in the festive spirit. We've got a work-in-progress guide to the event right here if you need any help, with details on where to find Jingle and all the other activities you can get stuck into throughout the day.
Will you be spending Christmas Eve with Jingle and friends? Let us know if your island has transformed into a winter wonderland with a comment below.

I haven't felt inclinef to return to my island in a while, and I don't see myself returning now... maybe in a few weeks... ah well, there is always next year.
Happy toy day to everybody on this site! I am usually not into commenting or online communication. But this place here is kinda cozy and I enjoy it.
Let's hope 2021 will actually be a bit better (in general) and that we get NSO Gameboy and the Tony Hawk remasters. 🎄
I don't have AC yet so no toy day for me but I have new leaf so I could do it on there.
Ugh haven’t gotten any of those Christmas recipes despite playing everyday. I gotta say, the fact that these things are so sparse is extremely disappointing, a big ding against the game imo. Lol I waited all year for those mushroom goodies and think I only got the wallpaper...so lame
Just had a fun time delivering presents to everyone and doing a bit of an exchange. Haven’t played much recently but this was a nice 20 min activity worth revisiting for
@Crockin Gotta farm balloons for those, unfortunately, which is incredibly tedious. Not to mention the frozen set which you need to build perfect snowmen for which in itself is real tedious too if you don't know a trick to it.
Honestly at this point I've kinda stopped caring about getting all the recipes. If I get them while I play, cool, but I'm sick of having to do mundane tasks like waiting around for balloons to spawn for another recipe. And I don't feel like doing much else either because the rest of the game has gotten stale as well. It's quite unfortunate really.
Oh well. Happy Toy Day to everyone regardless!
I wasn’t able to acquire any Toy Day DIYs. How was I supposed to get them?
EDIT: NVM Thanks @Yosher
@Yanina I’m hoping Crash Bandicoot 4 as well.
I want to play ACNH tonight to celebrate Toy Day and at the same time my 3rd anniversary of Nintendo Switch machine purchase day (i bought Nintendo Switch machine on 24 December 2017), but my mood is thinking about Sly 2 PS3 right now.
I have reached episode 8, just a little bit more to finish the storyline of Sly 2.
@Yosher no I understand that, I’ve put an embarrassing number of hours into this game and the older ones. I just think that in a game that’s all about decorating outside, they should have made all that stuff a little more accessible
It was great waking op this morning, enter the snowy island and see all villagers glowing with festivity and happiness. It's not about the gifts, but exchanging this joy with each other. This is what makes Animal Crossing such a beautiful game.
I've just come back to AC after a break but I'm working over Christmas do will have to jump back and do Toy Day in the new year.
Merry Christmas guys and have a good one, both ingame and in your real lives x
Cool decorations in the screenshot. Unfortunately, I've not found those recipes. Seems like Bunny Day, we were tripping over recipes, but the game has been quite stingy with Christmas recipes.
Haven't played this game in months, but Happy Toy Day nontheless!
And God Jul to everyone at NL from Sweden (24th is the day we celebrate Christmas in this part of the world)!
Do those trees come out at night?
Cool I think I'll come back to participate
Let's see the state of the island...
@Crockin I know what ya mean, I haven’t gotten a single recipe either. When the balloons come it either a shirt or some other furniture. Annoying.
So Animal Crossing is trying to convince kids that Chrismas is all about expensive presents? What a wonderful commercial world, we live in.
Just imagine the poor girls and boys who do not get any toy, because their parents cannot afford one. Thank you Nintendo, for wiping the smile off the childrens faces.
@Piyo I reckon if they can't afford christmas gifts then they can't afford a Switch+ AC either, so nothing of value has been lost.
@Crockin Yes and I agree with you, hence my frustration with having to farm balloons.
@Crockin I do agree with you. I mean, we have until march or something until the snow leaves so we can continue getting the ice recipes but... Honestly, since the snow has stuck I've made several snowmen and received a large snowflake and DIY recipes each time, and I only like one of them I got. Haven't received any out of balloons yet but I guess I'll keep trying...
With 2 young kiddos of my own, real life “Toy Day” may keep me too busy to play any Animal Crossing for a couple of days.
Wishing all the peeps here very Happy Holidays and a safe and prosperous New Year! 😄
@Yosher totally. I felt like the balloons got a major nerf before the fall. It’s been a great run with this game, but I think I need to hang it up after 2020
And what a toy day it's been.
@Crockin @yosher @queenofpain2018 @shonenjump86 @Mountain_Man here’s a tip...: put climbing walls or jail bars vertically all along one of your beach shores .... that way the balloon will travel south and you will find it easily. They appear everytime the clock hits a :05 or :00.
It’s working for me and already got all the recipes for the snowflake and festive set.
I just do something else like work while I wait for them. Every 3-4 balloons you may get a DIY
@fafonio o cool! I didn’t realize they showed up on that schedule
@Piyo Christmas is a religious holiday .... not every country or religion celebrates Christmas.... specially Asian ones.... hence the name “Toy Day”
@Crockin yes... i don’t know why but some balloons skip that :05 and :00 logic. Sometimes no balloon will appear. But as long as you follow that pattern, along the “big wall” trick.... you’re going to get them in no time.
This is specially useful for seasonal recipes that only appear for like 10 days or something.
The festive DiYs disappear on January 6 ... so you’ve still got time.
Just stay on your south western beach during the day.... and go and watch Netflix or something.
@Crockin Same for me, except I'll still at least try to check in daily to see if Redd is there for his art as I really want to complete the museum this time, already have the fish and bugs complete, so just art and deep sea stuff to go. Other than that I'll be pretty much done with this game too and maybe a future substantial update will make the game fun again.
Also on the balloon schedule thing- even if you keep that in mind it's still going to be a chore to actually get them. I was grinding for a couple hours a few days ago and only got like 2, maybe 3 of the recipes that way and it's just not fun that way. It's like a thing you just have to check while you're doing something else (like watching Netflix or whatever) otherwise you'll be tossing your Drift-cons into your television screen before long.
@fafonio I got that. However, the essence of christmas is not getting toys, not presents. It is about love, or more profane: it is about family.
I found some time for slacking off between all the preparations and the whole thing was a lot milder than Turkey Day. Just as well, Turkey Day was a lot.
@Yosher The snowmen are at least something new and there’s a lot of time to get them. Mushroom and leaf recipes overlapping and being only in the balloons really sucked.
@Crockin You are so correct, they show these beautiful lighted trees and present and not once did we get anything at all. For playing everyday.
I personally thought Toy Day way so boring and pointless. My kids woke me up so early just to play and they were like this is Dumb!
I believe Toy Day was the worst. So you give presents because he was lazy. Then you give presents and they give you the dumb presents you gave them just maybe in a different color. This is Nintendo, the stuff you show really disappointed my kids and all honesty me too. We wanted to light about our entire land with the stuff you show but can't find one damn recipe and the Balloon trick I have no clue what you mean and my kids wouldn't even have fun that way either.
All these Holidays giving you basically nothing until it's the day or not at all.
To be real honest the game sucks.
@Arkay ...you got a point there.
@Melody1983 I agree... they need to diversify activities more.. instead of “get me this” “deliver that”
Minigames would be great. Like in the original AC where you had all these NES games, but imagine a Christmas themed retro game in which when you reach a certain high score, you get each reward
Why the hell would you make diy wrapping paper. Then when you get the present diy it calls for RED wrapping paper?! I have mint and orange in my town today. Didn’t know I was supposed to hoard paper. And the festive paper is completely useless other than the initial 3 required. Very poor execution
I’ve abandoned my island! I haven’t played this game since May/June I believe. I wouldn’t get a toy for toy day because no one would remember me 🤷♂️
@Crockin wish you could buy recipes with nook miles for a limited time
@Kilamanjaro stop it, my heart can’t take it
@Crockin Just run up and down the beach every 4 and 9 minutes. That's when there is a chance for ballons to spawn. I farmed ballons and did small chores in between the ballons. I got most of the DIY after a while.
