We're at the end of yet another week – this time bringing with it another mass DMCA takedown from Nintendo, and then ironically a case where Nintendo appears to have used a piece of fan-made art on its own website – so it's finally time to take a bit of a breather and think about the games we'll be enjoying over the weekend.
Members of the Nintendo Life team have discussed their weekend gaming plans below, and we'd love for you to join in with your own entries via our comment section. Enjoy!

Hello. This weekend I’m going to be continuing to ignore the absolutely terrifying state of actual reality in 2021 by jumping into the Monster Hunter Rise demo - alongside probably pretty much anyone else who owns a Switch – as well as a bunch of stuff I’ve picked up in the ongoing eShop sales. I’ve got myself The Innsmouth Case to scratch that H.P. Lovecraft itch, finally picked up Mortal Kombat 11 and even double-dipped on Immortals Fenyx Rising, a game I’ve completed on Series X and am properly excited to get stuck into all over again in portable mode here. I hope you’re all having a good new year so far and have a great weekend whatever you’re playing!
Jon Cartwright, video producer
I've had a complicated history with Monster Hunter, – I've always wanted to love the series and I've dabbled in essentially every mainline entry but I just haven't had that moment where everything clicks. Monster Hunter Rise has dogs though, so maybe that will do it. I want to give Rise my full undivided energy, maybe this will finally be the one that retroactively makes me love all the prior games too. Everything looks really promising so we'll see if the demo alone can do it.
If that fails, I'm itching to replay Chrono Trigger! The DS box has been staring at me from my shelf begging to be played. It is a new year after all, and every year should have Chrono Trigger.

I’ve wanted the Super Nintendo variant of the New 3DS XL for years now, and I finally decided to take the plunge with a present from the Three Kings this week. It’s a beautiful piece of kit and despite the smaller faceplate-equipped model remaining the ‘best’ 3DS overall (for the average person, all factors considered), my tired eyes and aching joints welcome the XL dimensions. Will I actually play anything on it this weekend? Almost certainly not – gotta wait for the screen protectors to arrive! – but before long I’ll be enlisting my little Pikmin dudes to transfer all my games and data for a… *counts* fourth time.
Games-wise, despite having more games than I know what to do with on my Switch, I’ve been dipping back into Breath of the Wild over the past week or so. I’ve got 140-ish Koroks left to find and my completion rate is sitting at 88.27% or something like that. If I can find even one every half hour or so, I’m more than satisfied.
Boring and predictable? I think we could all do with a little ‘boring and predictable’ in our lives right now.

I got ridiculously addicted to Bloody Roar: Primal Fury on GameCube for some reason so I assure you there will be plenty of that this weekend. Made my way to the siege of Minas Tirith in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and should clear the game soon. More worrying signs of my insanity: I’ve bought a new GameCube game, something I haven't done for nearly a decade! Time to hunt Death in Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death. Call Resyk, this is gonna get messy citizens!
My game of the week is Shadow Gangs. Was not expecting the game to jump so fast to the Switch considering it was released only last year on Steam, but I very much welcome this cheesy, hardcore take on Shinobi. Highly recommended for everyone who has exhausted SEGA AGES Shinobi and is looking for further ninja related challenges.
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

Mostly just making my way through all routes of Nurse Love Syndrome at the moment but I might take a break to play through Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure 2 at some point.
Just tried Monster Hunter Rise demo sadly don't like the controls... Game is great but since controls are bad the game will be a pass. And as for the games i think Revelations 2
I tried the MH Rise demo, but it just didn't click with me, so I'll be playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, possibly Breath of the Wild Master Mode and maybe some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!
If you aren't playing the RISE demo, you're missing out.
I’m playing Monster Hunter. I feel like there is a game trapped inside this software that I would love if I could get to grips with it. One of my favourite parts of Xenoblade chronicles was finding the large beasts and slaying them.
This game is so unwieldy and unfriendly to new comers. And why is attack the Y button???? I keeping pressing x and end up stuck in an animation I wasnt intending. I appreciate why Nintendo throws in the slow tutorials at the start of their games.
@Rika_Yoshitake
And what are we missing ? MH games are perfect for 3DS and maybe PSP but on switch the controls fuuuuu .
Oh yes forgot the MH World that one is also kinda good
I am about 40% through Dragon Quest 11. Loving it so far!
I also finally caved in and started playing Persona 5. Was holding out for a switch port, but now Strikers is coming out soon I need to just crack on.
2 epic games will take me a while though!
This week I will be mostly playing
Pokémon White
Better controller joycons replacement than that Nintendo rip off. However, i am playing through monster hunter rise demo, a great game for the switch.
@Alexface
Don't want to flood the whole chat but how is it? I mean really is it good or great? I mean dragon quest 11? :/ If possible +- review since your playing it
Age of Calamity has sparked me into restarting and finally finishing BotW, so I’m playing both of those this weekend. Possibly some Neo Cab or something else small / story during downtime / before bed.
Finished Monster Sanctuary last week and that was great! Highly recommend to all Pokemon/Metroidvania fans. Also played the MHR demo for a bit, but don’t want to spoil too much for myself so after clearing both quests I uninstalled. Cant wait for the full release!
a hella lot of monster hunter rise thats for sure. But Papter mario orgami king is showing up next week can't wait for that.
Some of the latest library recruits in particular, like Touhou Genso Wanderer (which even the tutorial and the training trials have showcased as an astonishingly deep rogue with plenty of intricate mechanics) and The Outer Worlds which, not unpredictably, looks and plays A LOT better than the fandom would have you believe, and overall gives off the very complimenting "sci-fi Skyrim" vibe I got it for. What? I haven't played any first-person Fallouts yet.
I look forward to excursions into the realms of AER, Regions of Ruin, WeakWood Throne and Cattails, plus return trips to The Long Journey Home, Arc of Alchemist and Dragon's Dogma, but I've also been focusing on the more linear experiences of Planet Alpha and This Realm of Mine this week, in hopes to beat both. And got the appetite for more Skyrim (the **Skyrim** Skyrim, I mean) and Starlink as well. You know how my weekend gaming plans get.😅
There's more 3DS in these plans, too - even beyond Spirit of Justice (the focus of my VN/adventure backlog once again after wrapping up Diabolical Box) and Luxor (which I also hoped to finish this week, but the last stage is particularly insane... as par for the course with last stages, of course). Budget constraints prevented me from continuing my Etrian Odyssey binge with Untold 2, but I did allocate enough funds for the previous remake, The Millennium Girl - and, despite having beaten the original on NDS, I feel like actually replaying it by and by. It's been a while, the gameplay and story are still very worthwhile and this time there's a defined cast of characters! Boy, is my 3DS quite an Atlus machine by now.
@Rika_Yoshitake I remain more of a God Eater person, not to mention the MH backlog going back to PSP's Freedom (where my procrastinating and more-of-a-God-Eater butt is still not out of the tutorial missions). Although Rise looks damn promising regardless.
Almost done with my run of Final Fantasy 6 Brave New World hack, currently saved at the final dungeon after defeating the atma weapon wannabe.
In terms of gameplay the hack really was exceptional and was an amazing opportunity to make use of a lot of the skills and characters that usually go ignored in regular FF6 and proved a healthy, well balanced challenge without going into the BS range. Though I really, really wish the dev had left the script untouched because holy smokes was it bad: F-bombs and other swearing all over the place, references that had nothing to do with anything, every single solitary piece of infodump seemed to have some sort of sarcastic jab added to it (which also made the characters feel really mean spirited) and molestation "jokes" because those are fun...
Trying my best to ignore that I had my fun with it but I'm definitely ready to move on to the next game.
Bit of Smash as there’s a Spirit Board event on. Might also make a little more progress in Iconoclasts.
Starting the 4th chapters in Octopath Traveler, collecting the new spirits in Smash and the fishing tournament in ACNH takes place (hopefully with new items in the new year, but not really expecting it!?). And almost forgot about the MH demo...
Dedicated the whole weekend to MHR
Tho the wire bug stuff is really annoying!
Am taking a little break from Hades to go through 9th Dawn III, which I picked up on a whim, and it has really sucked me in. Is kinda like a cross between Ultima and Diablo. Very addictive. Have a great weekend, all, and please stay safe out there.
1. Titan Quest on the Switch.
2. World of Warcraft - probably leveling my hunter.
3. Sacred 2 on Xbox 360.
For me it will be a mix of Samurai Shodown, Mario Galaxy and Monster Hunter.
Hyrule Warriors and Horace are
my mainstays, being my purchases over Xmas.
However as I have a bit more free time I’m going to immerse myself in a bit of Golf Story. I think I’m nearing the end and it’s been a great and very funny game.
Planning to complete Donkey Kong Country 3 on SNES Online, working on my Animal Crossing island and will play some more Leisure Suit Larry. Might play some Mario Kart 8 online with my friend too.
@Clyde_Radcliffe LSL on Switch? I liked it a lot. Much better than the 360 reboot trash, but not quite on par with LSL1-7. Glad they got the original voice actor though!!
@Dm9982 Yes, it's the first one I've played actually! Very funny and I like the concept of him waking up in the modern world from 1989.
Some Monster Hunter Rise demo (looks really great) and then probably some Resident Evil Revelations on my 3DS (finishing Hell difficulty).
Got the Monster Hunter demo so will give that a go, see if it's my sort of thing.
Still working through the Dragon Quest 11 post game, and on the side Snooker 19 career mode as Chris Totten. He's up to 34th in the world rankings and just won the China Open, thrilling stuff 😄👍
Games that I got on sale: Ni No Kuni, Need for Speed. I am liking both of them.
Rocket League and a little fishing tourney on new horizons.
Happy gaming everyone!
Shovel knight and mario kart tour
Metroid Zero Mission on Retroarch.
I own it for the GBA but the save states are a life saver.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Awesome enjoy! And I’m gonna recommend that if you like that one, and have the ability to play on pc, gog.com has Leisure Suit Larry: Greatest Hits and Misses (1-6), and LSL: Love for Sail (7) for $9.99 and $4.99. Totally worth it, hilarious and amazing series. If you think LSL on Switch is funny, those will make you cry laughing.
Tetris 99 to get the new theme. Picked up the new Smash spirits yesterday. Hopefully finally finish The Last of Us 2 this weekend. Long game, but great (had it since launch, but not really a game to be playing in front of the kids!!!) Otherwise play a bit more Pikmin 3 Deluxe which I picked up last week.
I'm playing PGA 2k21 and finishing off xenoblade (what a great game) also might play a bit of need for speed hot pursuit remastered.
Hopefully I'll be wrapping up Atelier Ryza this weekend.
Monster Hunter Rise demo and Sushi Striker, outside of the MH Rise demo it's all about backlog until February 12th unless a Direct happens before then.
AC Odyssey on Stadia and Mario Odyssey on Switch. Tried the Monster Hunter demo, but it is not my cup of tea.
Got the new theme on Tetris 99 last night, I’ll play my usual Super Mario Bros. 35 for the challenges and Horace, which I’m really enjoying. My son has been playing Smash Ultimate and Pokémon Sword so far.
I'm playing all sorts of games currently but my focus is on DSiWare games I got earlier this week.
I unlocked the new theme in Tetris 99 and checked out the Monster Hunter Rise demo. I'll also be continuing my island renovation in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
I played tons of Celeste and after 40 hours and 10k deaths I finally did pretty much everything except the absolute ridiculous endgame golden berries. I think I'm done with the game for now but might come back later maybe for some casual speedrunning or reverse map run. I think this game might be top 3 single player game of all time for me, highly recommend!
Besides that I played the usual Smash Ultimate for a bit and on PC side I'm thinking of starting either Yakuza Like a Dragon or Black Mesa. Got those on Steam winter sale.
@iaLgan the switch let's you swap your button combinations
Monster Hunter demo. Immortals. Cuphead. Bloodstained ROTN.
Still going to be playing more Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, as I'm currently on Satorl Marsh. I've already beaten this on the Wii, but I've still been having a blast with it, as it will keep me entertained through these early winter months.
Aside from that, I'll most likely end up playing my Arcade 1ups more. They get some attention every weekend. I really want to play some more NBA Hangtime.
Tried the monster hunter demo and so far it seems pretty good. I will most likely wait for the pc version tho.
I'm also playing my way through Trails of Cold Steel (the first one).
And it's not my new years resolution, but if I get at least 30 minutes of Ring Fit squeezed in this weekend I'm pretty happy.
Cool, I've been playing the Third Age as well!
I finally bought AstralChain and really enjoy it so far!
Sakuna Of Rice And Ruin,The Last Of Us Part 2 and Assassins Creed Valhalla will continue to grab my attention.
I tried the Monster Hunter Demo but I'm kind of sad and disappointed that I couldn't get into it.I also own Monster Hunter World on Ps4 and again,as much as I want to enjoy it I just can't get on with it.
I'll be playing more of the Monster Hunter Rise demo and Age of Calamity.
i got a new hard drive for my PC Games and will be transferring all of them this weekend. But, I'll be playing Fable Anniversary, XIII (Classic), Founders Fortune and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
😊
Last of us part 2, doing a few hours each day this week. A dark room absolutely loved and was gripped, did 2 playthroughs. I’m dipping into games at the moment, bit of SNES app bit of Mario odyssey, bit of inside. Oh yeah did Florence yesterday and loved it. One and done tho but we’ll worth the 2 pound or whatever, stay safe xxxxx
@Orangezap89
Sorry for late reply but i mean camera with analog sticks still it did help
No trash to the game it is great just sad since i have all of them and this one gives me grrr brrrr....
Zelda BOTW, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Smash Ultimate.
Shadows of Adam. Really enjoying first few hours Ive played!
Probably some Animal Crossing and if I feel up to it I will play some Jedi Outcast, that game is way better that I expected it to be, if only we could get KOTOR on Switch.
Hollow Knight, Undertale, Yoshi’s Crafted World, and First Tree on Switch. Banko-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge on DS Lite (which I basically use as a backlit GBA).
Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Splatoon 2.
Maybe I'll try Monster Hunter demo, but I'm not a fan so I don't have high hopes...
I've already played Florence, and some Tetris 99. Will also probably play some ACNH and Splatoon 2. Not sure else is on the gaming horizon at this point.
@CooperFrank
Sorry did i miss something is castlevania SOTN on downloads on switch ? :/ If so sorry for asking will check it when i get home.
Mostly more Breath of the Wild whenever I can fit it into my busy weekend. I'm over 60 hours in, with two Divine Beasts to go. I've beaten 58 Shrines but only found 91 Koroks so far. I just learned those apple offering/statue places are also sites to find them. I've just been taking the apples. D'oh!
I might fit in a little time with the Monster Hunter Rise demo as well.
Have a good weekend! Stay safe, and happy gaming!
MHR Demo & Apex.
@iaLgan
No, no, you missed nothing! I'm playing the PSP version, on PSVita!
I'll definitely be putting a lot more time with the MH Rise demo this weekend. It is really good however I am having a really hard time adjusting to it. My main game I play very often is MHGU (HR 900) and I am so ridiculously programmed to everything about it ESPECIALLY Valor style for my great sword, bow and heavy bowgun setups. I am very, very attuned to the timing, handling, etc. to that game that the transition to the design and feel for Rise has been a lot harder than I anticipated. My hands and brain are fighting me more than the monsters themselves. It can make it very frustrating when you know its not the game's fault/problem its all me. I know in time I'll adjust but it will be a long process to essentially unlearn the old game and relearn the new game. It definitely still has that MH DNA but a huge step forward from Gen. Maybe not right now but in time I'm sure I'll have a greater appreciation for being forced out of my comfort zone and moving on to something fresh yet familiar.
Lumo, which is super cheap in the sale and been on my list for ages. Couple of frustrating bits but enjoyable overall and I appreciate the 80s references.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Vita) - Still unlocking Red Bricks and characters.
Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two (Windows Store) - Starting Episode Two tonight.
Orbital (Windows Phone) - Starting on this.
Have completed the Tetris 99 event, onto the Smash one and then The Crown Tundra which I hope to finish. Hoping to start Tales of Xillia this weekend. Also Mole Mania on Gameboy which I don't enjoy as much as I used to.
Good to see Bloody Roar Primal Fury get a mention, one of my first GameCube games.
@Rpg-lover Those new joycons do look great with a full dpad too. Might get a pair myself.
GET THE MONSTER HUNTER RISE DEMO! It's brilliant! (I am a MH noob - but that's when you have the most fun with some games!! I'm totally hooked!)

Monster Hunter Rise Pro Tips For Beginners
@Matthew010 @meeto_1 @iaLgan
Since you guys were the ones who said you were new to Monster Hunter and either didn’t like the controls or it didn’t click, I wanted to share some advice as someone with 2,000+ hrs in the series.
Everyone has the initial response of “why do the controls feel slow”. Let me address this. First of all, Monster Hunter is not the type of game you just put 10 minutes into and say it’s not for me. This is a game that requires several hrs of investment were you commit to actually learn the systems and find a specific weapon to your liking, and learn it’s basic combos.
MH is a game with animation commitments. It’s 100% intentional by the developers. It is not a button masher. Each and every attack is deliberate. You should never press a single button without knowing in your mind exactly what it’s going to do before hand, and exactly how long it’s going to take for the animation to play out. It’s more of a strategy game in that respect. Except once you get good, it becomes the absolute best combat of any video game (I’m not even kidding- the combat is ridiculously good, but all newcomers have the same knee-jerk reaction because they’re just not used to it because very few games have this much depth).
Monster Hunter is one the greatest video game ever made. It’s utterly brilliant. The combat and controls are the best of any I’ve ever played too, and I’ve played just about everything over the last 30 years of gaming. But all newcomers think the exact opposite when they start playing it because they’re not used to it and they haven’t learned it and it feels foreign to them. Ask anybody who’s into the series and they will tell you they felt the exact same way when they started playing. Exact same way. That’s how we know, because we were you at one point.
And normally I would say it’s not worth investing a lot of time into a game before it clicks, but Monster Hunter is an exception. Because the game has so much depth and because it is so utterly fantastic (just look at the review scores for Monster Hunter World, or Skill Up’s YouTube video arguing Monster Hunter World is one of the greatest video games of all time), and this one feels better than World. The pay off is so immense that it is absolutely worth putting the time in. If you do- if you commit to just sit down and give it a proper go, learning the systems, hunting the beginner quest over and over (there’s 3 monsters in the map, you can fight any of them for fun and practice even if it’s not Great Izuchi) until you start getting the hang of it, you might just find your new favorite franchise.
It also helps to have a vet hunter who can hunt with you and teach you the basics and show you the ropes. If any of you would like someone to hunt with you just let me know and I’d be happy to do so.
Working my way to 100% Age of Calamity. Starting streets of rage 4 after that (I've never played any streets of rage before).
Finished Horace last weekend, great game and lovable characters. Wasn't fan of the metroidvania part, but i didn't ruin the experience.
Also last weekend i finally 102% donkey Kong country 2, great game. More difficult than i remembered.
Rocket League, maybe some Immortals.
@JaxonH Thanks for that response, hearing that makes me want to give the demo another go. Can you choose who you play with online in the demo as if you're available, I'd love to see how you play
Got a PS5 to go along my Series x and Switch. No going through Ghost of Tsushima. Beautiful game, and combat is awesome. Exploration is also great.
I have been playing Super Mario 3D Allstars, New Super Mario Bros DS, and I am hoping to get some more GBA games at a local store that I missed out on!
First and foremost, I'll continue to paw my way through Cat Quest, it's a bit repetitive but I'm enjoying all the cat puns. I also picked up Horace, while it was on sale last month, so I'll be playing that at some point, over the weekend. I might check out the Monster Hunter Rise demo as well, as it wouldn't hurt to take a look at it.
Animal Crossing as I do every day. Splatoon 2 to get ready for the Splatfest. Breath of the Wild which I still haven't finished. I like taking it slow. I tried the Monster Hunter Rise demo, but didn't care much for it. I'll give it a few more tries.
@JaxonH
Spent so much time to write an article. I said i have and played all the games of MH from PS2 to 3DS and yes the controls sucks u might want to admit it or not your opinion
Loved them all this title is also awesome but controls controls controls ....
Demo conviced me to not buy it :/
@Matthew010
Yes, if the person is on your friend list. Send me a request, my FC is 1947-6504-9005 (JaxonH).
Once I accept your request, you can hunt online with randoms or with friends.
@iaLgan
Relax. No need to get hostile, I’m only trying to help. Given the game controls the same way every other game in the series controls, I struggle to relate to your complaint. But it seems you’ve made your mind up, so we’ll leave it at that.
I shall be catching up with Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokémon Shield and Animal Crossing :3 I restarted my island which was a huge mistake so now I must start from the beginning 😅
@iaLgan Just curious, but what about the controls do you not like? I admit, the wirebug is taking me a bit getting used to, but if you aren't using it to travel much, it pretty much plays like World in many respects. Most of the weapons seem based on World, with a bit of GU thrown in with the silkbind attacks acting as Styles. I personally am loving the bow, with its changes to Arc Shots, and gyro aiming (although that did take some fiddling with to get it feeling right for me). Many of the controls have options to change and set in the options menu. Which control aspects do you seem to be not liking?
@Highlar
It's kinda strange when you have to roll the analog stick while you have to attack and roll it over again not saying it's bad just annoying for me camera works bad for me sorry :/ As i said before the game is great just hmz..
Sadly first MH game that i won't buy.
I got a lot of games today, but right now i'm playing Pretty Princess Party ! 😆
I named my princess with name Brittany since i cannot use my name for princess. 😅
@iaLgan
roll the analog stick while you have to attack and roll it over again
It’s fine if it’s not for you, but I’m really confused by what you’re saying. You shouldn’t have to “roll” the analog stick at all. You simply use it to control the camera the same way it controlled the camera on New 3DS or PS2 (games which you said you liked). It also has camera lock where you tap L to swing the camera at the monster, the same way it worked in the 3DS games.
So the camera is the same as the games you say you loved. If you liked their camera, but not this one, that implies there’s a difference between them. But there’s no difference. Which is why I’m confused. The only “difference” I’ve observed is the default camera turn speed is higher, but that’s one of the things I recommended changing in my tips list. Turn it down one notch and it’s identical to all the other MH games.
I've been playing Final Fantasy X alongside some animal crossing! However, I feel a little bad for putting Mario Rabbids on hold especially since I'm getting close to finishing it. I'll hop back into it eventually lol.
Also, I did manage to finish Final Fantasy VII a week or so ago. I initially thought a majority of the story was spoiled for me but I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was a lot more to it than what was spoiled for me.
Have been feeling the lockdown, so I am up for Breath of the Wild and Skyrim letting me continuing explore whatever I feel like. Also, as always Animal Crossing for soothing...
Been playing the MH Rise demo while waiting on Code Vein to download after spotting it in the Jan PS sale.
I am on vacation, so I went to a house by the beach, with my Switch and Hyrule Warriors AOC, which I haven’t touched, because I decided that I wanted to try Paper Mario The Origami King which was sitting in my backlog and fell in love with it. Can’t stop playing it. Of course Monster Hunter rise demo.
I started Iris.Fall last night, so I might finish it up this weekend if I can find the time. Probably some Mario Kart with the kiddo too.
Finally got a Mew 2DS and am indulging in Majoras Mask for the first time. I literally haven’t played anything between Link to the Past and Breath of the Wild, and I’m old enough to have played every main line game during its original release. Lots to catch up on. Loving the updates Zelda 3D games. Can you believe I haven’t played through OOT? Holy moly, excited. Beyond that, I’m about halfway through Age of Calamity and loving every moment thus far.
@iaLgan I am a fan of JRPGs and also Dragon Quest so take my thoughts as you will.
So far I love it. It's definitely Dragon Quest, has obviously been made with such care. I am currently thinking it's on a par with 8 (which is my favourite), but time will tell still...
If you like JRPGs I would recommend. Right now it's an 8 or 9 out of 10, but I am also quite harsh 😂
Zelda Breath of the Wild, worth buying a Switch just to play this masterpiece!
I've been out of my Mario marathon for a while now...I'm very close to the end though. Just have to finish Color Splash and then do Mario + Rabbids, Captain Toad, Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Origami King. Won't be finishing Color Splash until I can play it again with my brother though. So I think I'll try to work on Mario + Rabbids.
Streets of rage 4
Mario Kart 8 as I double dipped (I also own it on the wiiu) for xmas cause I got it for 25 bux new.
Hades a lil. I still havent felt I really like this game. Glad it was only 5 bux) :/ I need to start it again, Put headphones on catch a buzz and give it another go.
Will be playing Xenoblade Chronicles DE this weekend.
Just finished Resient Evil 4 on Gamecube, moved straight to 3 Remake on PS4.
I played the MH Rise demo and already killed Mizutsune two days ago and left the demo. Imo the demo was lame compared to GU demo and 4U demo. Only two boring monsters to fight in MH Rise demo, like seriously. But I am returning to Super Mario All-Stars and will get the fighter pass DLC 2 for Smash.
Gavin Lane - I have the SNES edition of the N3DSXL and it looks sublime!
I've been starting Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I'm quite late to the party. Bought Rise, so I'm using MH3U as a two-month crash course.
Pure Pool...love it.
@JaxonH thanks for all the advice much appreciated. The auto sheath option I disabled and that improved things dramatically. I also pulled the camera out because it was too tight and I’m prone to nausea when playing first person games or games with certain camera set ups and that helped a lot too.
I took another shot at the intermediate beast and lasted a long time but it felt like I was no where near to killing it. I rode the beast ( although admittedly I didn’t make the best of this) I used the right shoulder button to trigger a red aura and unleash fast hits (I chose the two dagger class)
The beast fled 3 times and still wasn’t enough. My issue isn’t the blood borne style of gameplay. I don’t have much experience with these type of games but I understand and appreciate the concept. There are just way too many inputs and systems to manage at once. I will need to spend a lot of hours just to feel comfortable with basic controls and set up. You might be right that this franchise offers a very nuisance and in-depth combat system but it definitely doesn’t do a good job introducing newbies. Even the Tutorial in this demo wasn’t great. The dog mostly killed the beasts in the tutorial lol. I am enjoying myself more. Will persist tomorrow. That 30 play limit isn’t looking so generous :-/
@meeto_1
Glad to help!
Its definitely a complex game, and there is lots to learn (even with 2000 hrs in the series I'm still learning and havent mastered all the weapons). But you dont need to master everything before you start having fun. You just need to achieve a base level of basic understanding for the fun and addiction to start, then you spend hundreds of hrs playing a game you love to death, and learn the rest as you go.
The full game will ease you in much better than the demo. The doesnt have the luxury of spending the time needed to properly teach you everything. Of course, many mechanics in MH remain hidden purposely. Its meant to be a game with so much depth you make exciting discoveries naturally as you play.
Once you start hunting more and getting the hang of things more, the complexity starts seeming not so complex anymore. Once you understand your weapon and start getting into the flow, learning what the gages on the HUD mean, get into the rhythm of the gameplay loop, start understanding things more, you'll find it's not so intimidating anymore. I take alot of things for granted, little things I know that new players wouldn't, but I was a new player too at one point. We all start out there. All of us vets were in your exact same shoes at one point.
Dont hesitate to watch some youtube tutorials from Gaijin Hunter or Arreks Gaming. Or just gameplay where you watch how they hunt, the flow of combat, just by watching you'll learn so much and get a feel for how to approach things. It's ok to watch weapon tutorials for Monster Hunter World. All the moves are basically the same aside from wirebugs.
Big tip also. If you get hit, use ZL + B to do a wirefall recovery back onto your feet (be sure to press analog in the direction you want to wirefall, typically should go away from the monster). Takes some practice committing it to muscle memory, and I know you're probably overwhelmed as is committing all the other actions to muscle memory, but it's a really great recovery technique that can get you out of a tight spot.
Any questions just tag me. Seeing new players fall in love with Monster Hunter feels so good. Happy to help in any way I can.

Also, deleting save data should reset demo counter. Or using a 2nd user with separate Nintendo Account. Someone said the deleting save data doesnt work now, they changed it, but cant confirm or deny.

Also, as your skills improve you'll start killing monsters faster and faster. But that Mizutsune is tanky, even for me. Normally takes me 20 min in MHGU, but took me 40 min in Rise demo using charge blade. That said, I killed it in 20 min using hunting horn. The horn is SUPER good in this game. It got completely reworked for Rise. Can fast travel back to camp to restock on potions if needed, btw. I had to both times I beat him.
Imagine complaining about the DEMOs controls without actually going into the options...
Literally EVERYTHING about the game can be changed, button layout, loadout, display notifications, language... This games level of accessibility is extremely high... but these people are like "meh controls bad too many buttons" lmao
The rise demo SUCKS
BOTW, some random PC games.
I'll be playing a lot this weekend.
Rocket League
Ara Fell
Shadows of Adam
Cosmic Heroine
Timespinner
80s Overdrive
Animal Crossing: New Horizon, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Dragon Quest XI S, and Monster Hunter Rise demo.
I'm playing the original Ocarina of Time (Wii VC) and Ocarina of Time 3D in parallel (3 heart challenge in both). So far the original has a much more rustic aesthetic and controls aren't as fluid so its a little more difficult.
Dark Link is muccchh harder in the original even if you don't z target. I can see why people would prefer the original, but there's so many QOL improvements in the remake.
Hyrule Warriors
Kentucky Route 0
Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin
Super One More Jump
I keep playing Super One More Jump that I grabbed for 35 cents when I mean to be playing other things.
Finished Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc late Friday night, going to move on to Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology next. Maybe a little Man Eater on PS5 too, it's free on PS+ so why not?
Hades, spiritfarer, actually get my HR up over the lvl 50 threshold in GU (on my fifth run, recently did a all Prowler run which was great fun but going back to my Hunting Horn for this one) and playing the stuffing out of Rise because my favourite weapon finally got a overhaul and man riffing off melodies one after another while bashing away with the HH is just amazing! Can't wait for it to come, the MH portable team are bloody wizards.
divinity original sin 2.
Tried Monster Hunter Rise demo several times and found the controls slow and frustrating, so gave up on it and played Bloodstained RotN.
I finally got around to playing GRIS, and man oh jeez am I glad I finally did.
I got Super Mario 3D All-Stars last weekend for my birthday, so I've started my first journey through Super Mario 64 since 1997. I also continued my first attempt at completing Super Metroid, and I think I've finally discovered where I need to go to continue my exploration.
AoC, Hades, SSBU and maybe some JD21
