@Cipher36 Thanks! I actually was on the eshop last night snooping around and saw these. I'm going to buy physical I think, but for the ones that never get one I'll stick to the eshop sales. I've updated the wishlist so I'll know when they're on sale going forward. Appreciate the update!

@Arkham24601 Yes, the impulse is gone at these higher prices. I figured it might be $9.99 when I read it was 3D and would launch on Switch 2, but this is a special interest purchase only kind of thing now.

@Cipher36 Gah, good to know! I guess I always hoped they’d get a physical so I never put them on my wishlist for whatever reason. But I’ve started doing that with more and more games and also setup a deku account to help me choose what to get and when. Also begun forming wishlists on play-asia, VGP and PNP for the more niche releases, and to price compare.

In closing, I fully agree with you—buy them digital and physical because NEO GEO!!

@HammerKirby one of the main reasons I bought a Wii U at launch was because Rayman Legends was a “console exclusive.” First was a delay and then it launched late the next year on every platform… lol 😂 The drought was strong.

@HammerKirby totally agree, but I should have added that it sounds like a lot of devs are waiting on kits and third party games seem like they’re coming months later from release date, which as far as I know is atypical during a Nintendo console launch, going back to the early ‘90s. Maybe with exception of N64. Did I miss anything? I do remember PS4 being a bit barren for a couple years, too — so I’ve seen it with other companies too ✌️

@OorWullie I’m very interested too! The floaties are off and I’m excited to see what they do. Love the ports on S1, etc., but I’m not buying a S2 without a bunch of choices for new N games.

@Solid_Python the whole launch has seemed a bit bizarre to me. Let’s launch a NEW system with ONLY the S1 library and a few exclusive games. I guess for sales, so far, so good 😊

As a matter of habit, expect volumes 9 &10 to be announced on 6 November when these volumes drop. I’m still waiting on Metal Slug 3 and Magician Lord!

Someone on Reddit guesses there are about 11 volumes worth of these as there are 108 NG games available on the eShop.

For anyone wondering, if you buy from play-asia, the Asian version of each compilation has English cover art.

Hopefully SNK will release the collections everyone wants, but I’m guessing this is it for Switch. I don’t often buy ROM collections, but these are just too cool.

For anyone annoyed about the cost, I’m with you, and then I looked closer. Each game on the eShop is $7.99, and they don’t really go on sale. On these compilations, you get each game for roughly $4.19 (USD) so it’s like half the price to pick them up this way. That, for me, is huge value! As always, YMMV 👍

@Joekun I’ve observed a lot of other physical copies of games costing 2x the eshop price.

I don’t know anything about how licensing works, but I think there’s a different license for the digital vs the physical copy releases, so maybe that comes into play here.

I would certainly love a $40 or under price tag on this one, though! ✌️😃

I don’t really pre-order games, but this one I made an exception. I hope things have been ironed out for the physical launch of the game. If they need more time, take it 😅

@Cakefish yes, all these developers and especially big publishers will remember being left out of the Switch 2 launch, with little time to prepare for the holiday 2025 season. Where have I heard this before?? cough*Saturn*cough

@Cakefish seems like N want precise control of having pretty much the only big AAA experiences early.

In their roadmap, they stated that it’d start with first party for months before third party was part of the next window, which I recall we all thought was strange.

Among other things, I’m waiting for solid third party support and system seller games before I consider purchasing. A bunch of S1 games and a couple N S2 games are not impressing me just yet. MKW and DK are not selling me on S2. I was expecting announcement of the next 3D Mario, and that’d help do it for me.

Seems N is tightening the grip of control in ways that a lot are not find of.

I’m interested in this.

Seriously, this does look pretty sweet and you get a lot for the asking price. I don’t NEED it, but I do want it.

EDIT: Side note - I just finished Chronicles Of The Wolf and it was excellent. If you like the SCIV and Rondo Belmont controls with the villages and clues of SQ and the castle exploration of SotN, it’s an absolute must play. I had low expectations and was blown away. It’s my game of the year at this point. Also, the soundtrack kicks!!

@rvcolem1 I agree, but am trying to give it a chance. It almost looks parts raging justice and the takeover, oddly (I think). Neon as well, which is definitely not my favorite in the series (that’s Advance, and I really enjoyed my time with Gaiden). We will know in October!

No 3D Mario no buy. That’s the one game that would push me over the edge. I have a huge backlog so I’m good.

@FormerGameAddict Play-Asia has a placeholder page for the game, and a week ago it said "announcements coming soon." A couple days ago it changed to "out of print / out of stock." Either way, I hope it becomes available soon. I hope it's a retail release.

With all this controversy over the Switch 2's game key cards and expensive consoles, new high game prices and the anti-consumer precedence it's already setting as enacted by other publishers and manufacturers, it seems Nintendo is pricing out the casual gamer market, their bread and butter. Heck, I could give them my money, but I don't agree with how much more expensive all of this is compared to Switch. It seems like Nintendo is going for a much tighter grip on your access to what you pay for. I certainly don't trust their intentions anymore.

@MeloMan That would be great! I updated and checked my wishlist, and some of my purchases have been removed, while others are as they were, grayed out and listed as purchased.

I must say, I wish these "in preparation for Switch 2" updates were OPTIONAL The whole virtual game card thing on my other Switch is a total PITA. Not planning on buying Switch 2, either.

@NeonMullet this news is disappointing. I was hoping to get this one but now I’m thinking I may not. Very strange in a genre where things can easily get stale to not give each ranger their own unique moveset. They’re already just character palette swaps. Strange decision, no?
