I’ve avoided most gameplay clips up until now, and it looks like the game controls well, but I keep getting this ROM hack / Mario Maker user vibe in some of these clips that does not impress me.
I didn’t really think this felt like a Super Mario game until about five minutes in…some of what I saw in the video looks easy to the point of boredom, but luckily later it looked more engaging and fun. The constant barrage of stuff onscreen and sound effects seem…not as concise / focused as earlier Mario games. Almost seemed like a meme game for a few seconds but I guess I’ll see when I play it. I’m probably in the minority but I like the NSMB console games and feel like they are solid entries, though I understand why people think the series was tired after 4 games in a similar engine. Wonder seems odd, but I’m not sure if it’s good odd or bad odd for me just yet. I’m hoping to have a lot of fun with this one!
Though, I’m pretty sure I’m going to cancel my pre-order. I’ll wait on more footage. The music felt extremely predictable for a newer SMB game. I hope there are lots of new themes and some creative takes on old ones.
Just a few first impressions. Looking forward to seeing more from NL. Thanks for putting this video together!
Thank you for being upfront. All I need to hear to stay away until there’s a complete, working game worth my money like in the old days. Lol the sadness of modern gaming.
@wizzgamer to legally sell these, LRG must obtain permission from companies that own these games, and along with that, pay the appropriate licensing fees. This is different from say, an Etsy seller making just a couple repro carts and selling them for profit (which is illegal since they don’t own it to sell in the first place). Not saying I don’t have a few 😅
@NightBeast The Lost World is quite good! I have all three of these on Genesis and the two on SNES but still have not beaten all of them. Very fun games indeed. The Lost World has some very impressive graphics design during some “encounters” 😱 if my memory serves. They all offer something unique. Kind of makes me long for that in games these days. That always excited me as a kid to see how the Nintendo version vs Sega versions differed.
Pretty insane that out of the six games in the collection they are all different. I say awesome!!!
@nhSnork yes, it’s a great game!! I’ve not played all the way through. I better put it on my list!
Maybe someday they’ll release a second collection? Either way, I got what I wanted out of this first one now that Genesis JP and JP: Rampage Edition are included.
This whole thing seems kind of weird. When it was revealed, everyone clamored for the Genesis games, and they delivered seemingly overnight… maybe it was held back as part of the reveal to hype the game? But the pre-order has been live for weeks…and is only available until October 15.
@samuelvictor No issue at all. To have a couple releases of an independent title over a couple years, one with lots of extra content for the fans is pretty exciting. If it's a game I really like I'll buy it again because I want to support that developer so they can keep making more games.
@RupeeClock That is absolutely ridiculous. I order from them every few months, and I know how long the waits can be when you've pre-ordered more than one game in an order. They don't ship until everything is together. BTW their shipping rates are total BS compared to just about everyone else.
I know, I'm part of the problem ordering from them but a lot of their releases are exclusive, and I'd rather wait to play with entire game on card than buy digital when possible (even though I've double dipped waaaay too much. Trying to get better on that).
I’ve not pre-ordered from Walmart before, at least not a game that came with extras. Will it be shipped so I have the game the day it releases? I’m pretty excited about this game so I definitely want to be able to play it day one.
I voted X-Men, though more than anything, I’d like to see new original beat ‘em ups rather than a remake or reboot like Shredder’s Revenge. Luckily we’re getting lots of them these days. It’s just I’d prefer collections of the old games on a single card instead, like the Cowabunga Collection. That was great!
Unpopular opinion here, but I played through SR and outside of a buddy calling to play co-op online, I haven’t touched it since launch, though I have enjoyed other newer games like DD Gaiden, Final Vendetta, Mayhem Brawler, The Takeover, 99 Vidas, etc. much more than newer games using existing IP. Don’t get me wrong: SR is a magical love letter but I just don’t think I’ll be going back to it as much as other new beat ‘em ups. Same with SoR4. To me, the old games are untouchable.
Definitely Mario. I like that there are finally new art designs and assets for this game, but there’s something about this that seems unfocused like a ROM hack.
Of course I’ve not played yet, but it seems like ideas are all over the place. I trust Nintendo with 2D Mario, so my opinion will likely change soon. I guess I voted Mario because to me, a classic NES player, this new world doesn’t have as obvious a Mario identity, but perhaps I’m too stuck on the OG games up through SNES (which were all very different from one another). I blame you, NSMB, for your consistency!
I've tried to get into the show, but I just can't get that excited about this. I just want a true Classicvania game. The IntiCreates games are excellent, but I await a true branded Castlevania. I wish they'd just sell the IP already instead of let it rot.

Re: Ed Boon Might Already Be Teasing Another Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Character
@Wheatly thanks! Maybe I’ll consider it on PS5 down the line. I don’t use the Switch in handheld mode.
Re: Ed Boon Might Already Be Teasing Another Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Character
Is this game really as unplayable as people keep saying? The load times seem really off putting.
For those that own, Is this game worth its price tag? From what I’ve seen, I’ll take the OG arcade trilogy. Less hassle, solid experience.
Not sure if this one’s for me but I hope all the MK fans are having fun!
The naming of this franchise may soon turn into a “Fast and Furious” lol 😂

@Everythingnotsaved @Don thanks for the replies! I may look into these next time they’re restocked 👍

Re: Switch Online N64 Controllers Have Been Restocked In North America
Can these controllers be repurposed outside of NSO in the future, or will they become plastic artifacts in a few short years?
Would they one day be usable with PC emulation?
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Resolution & Frame Rate Chart Released
Konami. LOL. How sad and as always these days, disappointing.
I have basically ditched modern and will focus my time on retro games. Half the releases these days are just retro anyways…

Microsoft: The NeoGeo AES is not a console, it’s just a tiny arcade cabinet without a screen!!! 😅

I can’t wait until I get to play the raft level!!
Re: Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection Adds Two Sega Genesis Titles
That’s more like it!
I do have to ask why Genesis The Lost World is MIA I guess because it’s based on a follow up.
Now I’ll buy though

Not because it’s just or reasonable, only “because I could get away with it.”
Pretty soon there’ll be a per-post charge on social media.

@Savage_Joe guess I need to start again with update. Didn’t even know!

Re: Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection Officially Announced
None of Sega's games...not good enough. Were any of these games in the collection any good?
The raptor cover art looks okay, but it'd be much better with the classic film logo. I'd argue JP fans want that more. I know I would prefer it.
