I see Nintendo is taking cues from JJ Abrams on how to market their online service. All we need now is a surprise announcement during the Super Bowl that Daemon X Machina is already on Eshop!
@link3710 I almost made the mistake of doing that as well during the launch Black Friday sale at Toys R Us (RIP). I got so hung up on playing the others first that I decided to get Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge and Batman Arkham City instead.
Unless it's $5 at most, I'd stick to Telltale or some of the nice indies on the eshop if I wanted an unconventional story driven game. No replay value, massive wasted potential with the setting and atmosphere, and writing that makes Life is Strange hold its awesomesauce. Get The Coma, Celeste, or the Never Alone games instead.
You never know until you try it. How many people expected Doom, Skyrim Switch Edition, Wolfenstein 2 to be successful on the Switch despite all of them being full priced compared to the way cheaper and more optimized counterparts? I blame this on Nintendo fumbling the Wii U out of the gate more than the consumers just not wanting that series outright.
At this point, I just want third parties to cut the BS and give it to us straight. There's plenty of perfectly logical and reasonable explanations they could give for why the Switch isn't on the roadmap for their project, but instead it feels like they're lumping the whole lot with the crowd that barrages them with "BUT WHAT ABOUT SWITCH" when PC, PS4, and Xbox are the only platforms listed and then follows up with "PORT NOW REEEEE" when the obvious is stated.
@Syrek24 "Life goes on without many of the crusty games of old. And I do not have all my eggs in the video game basket, unlike most of you here. Life is far too precious and short to be worrying about a hobby, and a fragile one at that. I enjoy it as much as anyone else, but all this ROM defense is merely an excuse to acquit oneself from a felony, or at least in the minds of petty thieves and entitled children." Geez. I thought the theater is saw Mission Impossible at had some IMAX projection going on. The NeoGAF attitude towards "crusty old games" only amplifies the cringe. Maybe they're old to you, but I'm still discovering some of these every day with the full intent on actually experiencing them. If nobody is going to offer me a valid way to play some of these games, then I implore whoever owns the rights to give me a way to legitimately acquire them. Until then, I have no other choice but to go the gray route if/until that time comes. My business awaits any who have the supply.
@Crono1973 "evil laughter I'll drive those greedy Nintendo execs to the streets with my dastardly plan to download 3 Ninjas Kick Back for the Super Nintendo and play it on ZSNES! Then I'll really let 'em have it by downloading the European and Japanese versions and have all three running simultaneously! They'll have to beg people to buy the new Pokemon and Smash games or they'll be living on food stamps! AHAHAHA!" twirls mustache so tightly it creates a singularity
@1UP_MARIO I would be more wary of reproductions in that case. I remember getting a copy of EVO: Search for Eden (US version) for $8 around 10 years ago. Nowadays, that game runs about $180 in the same cartridge only condition I bought it in while an unlicensed repro can be a mere fraction of that and entice potential customers instead.
@Trajan Same here. I discovered so much of what I'm into now from doing that and it led me to supporting what is still active alongside hunting down the games that I found over the years. Nobody's going to put games like Hagane, The Guardian Legend, EVO: Search for Eden, the Godzilla fighting games on Turbo Duo and SNES, or the Far East of Eden series (outside of Japan anyways) on modern platforms and if they did, I'll happily support them unlike the swarms of plebs that will swipe past them for whatever the flavor of the month is. I'll play my roms in the meantime while I pray that the fat stack of CD cases and cartridges at every second hand shop, garage sale, and/or flea market stand isn't just a bunch of identical copies of a yearly sports game that the seller hasn't realized is worthless.
@Crono1973 Wasn't Nintendo also caught using roms downloaded from one of the sites they took down when someone looked at the header for the SMB NES filename?
@JayJ Hopefully Thunder Force IV is an indicator of things to come. I'd imagine that they would see sales from re-re-re-re-released Genesis games drop off and have to resort to bringing out the more obscure/underrated titles to switch it up for once. Would be great to see games like Alisia Dragoon Herzog Zwei get some love.
Y'all should be asking for some Prince of Persia or Splinter Cell on Switch. Let's have something different rather than "[game], but now it's portable".
I hate the culture around leaks more than actual leaks themselves.
Btw there's going to be a Pokemon segment next E3 and like 4 more Mario related spinoffs by the end of the Switch's lifespan. My sources totally confirmed it. Pls no bully if I get it wrong.
I was expecting more along the lines of last year's rapid fire trailers and reveals. I'm stoked for Smash and especially for my precious Ice Climbers coming back, but I'm pretty much done with hearing more about the game until it comes out. At least they started off strong unlike Sony's banjo session and intermission after a single demo last night.
Do they even have a devkit for the Switch? I feel like "lack of resources" is the PR way of saying "We never got a devkit and we're not sure when/if we will. The suits only want FIFA on there. Please stop asking for ports we can't make".
@Xaessya Sort of happened already with the Switch reveal. Some guy on /v/ leaked all of it with the Twitter "leakers" calling it out as fake only to get btfo in the process and go into nuclear damage control.
@RickD This game is at least being made by someone that wants to make a video game and actually looks like he's trying to do something new with the medium. I find it pathetic that an EA published game with all the red flag buzzwords manages to get me more excited than almost every Sony exclusive using them as well.
Fun fact: the PC port is a port of the smartphone version, which is a port of the DS one...which is a port of the SNES original with cutscenes from the PS port. Someone call Xzibit.
@Equinox Not even offended, just uninterested. This is like when Shadowrun was rebooted as an FPS to draw in the casual crowd that didn't care or even know what that is while the genre was at its modern peak.
Anyone else miss when companies would have different versions of a game available on different platforms? Now it seems like they just want to make one version to port elsewhere and be done with it. It's so boring compared to previous gens where you could have a game based on the same property be a completely different experience based on what you played it on.
They'd do well to get Blizzard on their side while they're at it. China loves them to death and a portable console that people can play Star Craft, Diablo, Hearthstone, and Overwatch on would make some serious bank just from that region alone.
@PlywoodStick There's also the difference in audience and what sells per platform to consider. People aren't going to go for a Switch just because there's Mass Effect and GTA on it just like how the majority of Xbox and PS4 owners won't go nuts over Etrian Odyssey and Monster Hunter despite all the port begging. As long as they can make a separate ecosystem to make them stand out, they should be fine.
@whanvee I imagine the specs and storage capacity would force devs to actually compress their games. Halo 5, Gears 4, Doom, Elder Scrolls Online, and pretty much every yearly release take up at least 50 GB with no logical reason most of the time. Storage was only ever a problem for me before with the PSP since I stuffed everything on there and I only had a 2 GB Memory Stick.
I really hope that porting agency can fix some of the issues XCX had. No dual audio options let alone any to speak of and the ridiculously tiny text were a pain to deal with. If they can also write out the cringey "Let's eat Tatsu xD" garbage on the side, that'd be swell.
A solid framerate should be the top priority. What good are shiny graphics if the screen tears and everything looks choppy even when there's not much going onscreen? Just lock it to 30 or 60 and it's all good.
At this point, I don't even know anymore. Is Nintendo purposely supplying less to artificially raise the demand? Is there really that big of a scalper crowd that these sell out quickly only to be flogged on ebay for $300 while nobody has any left in stock?
Something has to be done no matter who is to blame.
Where's the option for a locked framerate? I'm fine with 30 or 60 FPS, but having drops or slowdown is annoying when I'm playing a game. At least in old shmups, it was like having bullet time to dodge stuff when there was too much on the screen at the same time.
Hey guys my alphabet soup had noodles shaped like the letters N and X right next to each other. Soup features confirmed for NX and it will double as a table and bowl combo. Breath of the Wild is now renamed Broth of the Wild to reflect this revelation.
I like that this rumored model has two analog sticks. Once the inevitable Monster Hunter entry comes out for NX, I won't have to rely on the laptop nipple any longer!
@Uncensored This right here. Nobody would care if nothing was even changed. How many people complained about Atlus releasing Conception II completely uncensored here?
@H_Hunter Without spoiling anything, the first chapter will probably be a bit hard to stomach since it has a fair amount of teen anime tropes. After that, it's solid horror to the end.
