Wait, I thought Sakurai's actual statement was that CERO wouldn't let her in with an A rating and that the "good boys and girls" line was just how it was localized for people outside of Japan.
@mauhlin12 Speaking of double dipping and trying not to cave in, there's also those Metal Max games that were announced in October. I've been abstaining from getting Xeno since almost every game I get for PS4 ends up being ported to something I actually play on and it finally paid off.
@Gabriel87 That would fall on XSEED since they have the rights to the first two games.
Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World Super Godzilla Phalanx E.V.O Xardion Darius Twin Run Saber Jurassic Park Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues Chrono Trigger(JP) Secret of Evermore Super Castlevania IV Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Vortex U.N. @MsJubilee Exactly this. People are treating it like this call was made by the western branches playing the "children" card to explain it. CERO and the level of exposure games get for having their A rating are why this is happening. If both the Japanese and western markets were able to go back to letting a B/12/T fly, we wouldn't be having this issue. I'd even go as far to say Mai's design could've been fine for the current rating with minimal tweaking had it not been for CERO's requirements to try and look up the skirt and zoom in.
@TheFox Those outfits were from a part of the game in which there's a flashback to when the characters did gravure modelling that they regret doing and they can be unlocked after beating the game several times. The western version just has those scenes feature them in their usual outfits. Besides that, the jiggle physics were toned down to be more subtle. All completely pointless because it's an M rated/Pegi 18 game and especially odd when considering that you need to beat the game several times to unlock them. I could understand changing the unlocks to the western ones for the sake of not being tone deaf, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. It also pissed off the Japanese because they liked these new outfits too, but it's all locked to another region's version of the game.
As for the XCX stuff, removing the bust slider was completely pointless. A lot of people complain about Lyn's original swimsuit, but it also comes off as something that wouldn't have been a big deal had it been left alone. Everyone can wear the swimsuit, but because the nonsense ages were more important to keep intact, Lyn has another outfit layered over it when she wears it.
I still remember what social media were like during middle and high school, so someone in that age group wearing a bikini like that was pretty normal to see during the summer. If anything, it was far more believable and ethical than dragging a kid around a dangerous planet filled with hostile lifeforms and having her defend herself with melee weapons and GUNS while plenty of trained adults wander around NLA.
@NEStalgia @KoopaTrooper @BakaKnight Even then there really isn't much of a reason this game needed to be censored for a T rating. It's no more explicit than Persona 4: Dancing All Night (also T/12) in any category, nor plenty of other T rated games released around that year like Nights of Azure, any of the Ateliers. The changes reminded me of the kind of stuff Nisa would do because they wanted them personally like changing a name from one of the Atelier games from "Esty Earhardt" to "Esty Dee" (get it? xD) to "add spice". Nothing like that in Disgaea 5 or any of the Danganronpa games though, which really activates those almonds as to why not, especially with how edgy Another Episode was.
@BarefootBowser Well yeah. Unless they go out and do something about it or direct their moaning somewhere to someone that will, it doesn't matter what their motive is.
@BarefootBowser The difference is that these people are complaining in relevant spaces as opposed to going elsewhere and taking the attention away from more pressing issues in outlets that give them more widespread exposure to screech about a bikini being changed to a stupid looking 90's sitcom getup.
@Manah That bit was further into the game than a lot of the complainers would ever get and also DLC, to be fair. If the leak regarding the localization changes is true, Atlus didn't do any of the changes on their own, but rather because of Treehouse (probably Nich Maragos as he's credited in the game for localization or something) requesting them.
@SBandy I imagine that it's for parity, using the most recent build, and because the Japanese had some preference for several of the costumes that replaced the bikinis iirc. For all we know, the new stuff could be more in line with the Japanese version, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.
I guess this means Doom Eternal will now be the disappointing minute of every future Direct until release where we already know what it is, but here's yet another trailer anyways to fill in time and butter us up for the next announcement.
@KingMike Wasn't that employee fired for doing escort services while still being associated with Nintendo? I recall seeing that she was advertising them on the same Twitter that she had verified as working at NoA. I'm surprised Nich Maragos never had any run ins with them considering he had a ton of things pointing to him like his support for Andrea Ritsu, who is rumored to be the one that made the complaint that got Soleil's supports censored or that he was working on both Fates and TMS #FE and both of them had similarly awful localization works.
@suikoden @canucksfan989 I was not referring to those games. I should've elaborated that by "exclusives" I meant games that are only console exclusive for whatever reason such as Yakuza or Nier Automata when it first launched. Like I said before, I don't really care about most of their first/second party stuff. I'll go back on the "any game" bit that I stated a little since I do enjoy Japan Studio's output enough to keep supporting them, but the rest can wait until the generation's over and I can scoop everything up for a fiver like I did with my 360.
@Sim1 Maybe in a few years, but Stadia has way too many hurdles to jump like input lag, data usage, subscription costs, and dev support for it to be that much of a threat at the moment. That's not even getting into stuff like resolutions, mods, or running your own server for some games. Sony is only using MS' Azure datacenters for their streaming services, so it's about as much of a team up as the Xbox One using Blu Ray for their game discs instead of a proprietary format like the Wii U' or Dreamcast did. What they are doing is more akin to nipping the threat of Stadia in the bud so they aren't blindsided like TV and Hollywood were by Netflix.
They ought to be more worried about PC since a lot of the "exclusive" games on PS4 are also on Steam at launch or soon after. I have no interest in their first party stuff besides Japan Studio's work, so any PS5 I get will most likely be used from Game Stop along with any game for it that catches my fancy once it's down to $15 the year after it comes out.
I don't even care about the leaks. I just hate the cancerous "I'm an insider guise, pls believe me" crowd that constantly post garbage "leaks" and unfounded rumours, but never go away when they're BTFO by the truth almost every time. Every E3, PAX, TGS, and Direct now has a million leaks from that kid who's uncle works at Nintendo saying this is going to be announced (it isn't) with the safety blanket of "my sources" when they're wrong. I find it hilarious that Laura Kate Dale ended up being silenced not by all of the debunked leaks in the past few years, but by misheard lyrics of all things.
@Paraka Not exactly true. They've been losing a ton of exclusives to PC the past two years, but the impact isn't as large for them because their console is still the leader in mainstream appeal and userbase size and most of those titles aren't really the bread and butter of the platform anyways. I would say it's about even since both have userbases more geared towards other games and both geared towards consoles as opposed to PC.
@Morrow Idea Factory is the one in charge of this one though. I doubt that they'd be censoring anything willingly, but there is the possibility that they might be stuck with the same version for both platforms depending on whether they were only obligated to make changes for the PS4 version (ex. DMCV lens flare) or stuck in some sort of parity clause (ex. Far Cry 4 maxed out on PC being stuck on par with the PS4 version).
@Orpheus79V Speaking of which, was there any confirmation that this game would be spared the censorship scissors since it's out of Snoy's jurisdiction?
@tobibra Yeah it's crazy how popular she became in Japan. Kind of a shame too since there's a lot of other great characters starving for merch while Yumi seems to get something new every other day.
@diablo2 I would say the issue is not enough involvement with 3rd parties to get alternatives made. If a game can't run on the platform, why not incentivize an exclusive that plays to its strengths rather than hope for a port that is impressive, but still inferior across the board, you know?
How about a new Titanfall spinoff on Switch instead? By the time we get Apex on there, it'll be old news. Not every game is going to see the same success that Fortnite and the Bethesda ports saw.
"Let's take a series that had its comeback flop and make a spinoff nobody wanted in the style of a game that fans desperately want instead. Clearly, we haven't learned this lesson already from Federation Force! leaks info What could possibly go wrong?"
Calling it now. Retro's been working on Metroid Prime 4 all this time, the restart happened much further back then they want us to believe, and we'll get a trailer with a "JANUARY 2020" bomb at E3.
@Agramonte It's going to be God of War 2 (202X). Not to be confused with the actual God of War 2 (2007) as God of War 2 (202X) is actually God of War 5.
Online "leakers" are the equivalent of that kid in grade school whose uncle works at Nintendo and was hell bent on convincing everyone that Sonic was a secret character in Melee.
@retro_player_22 I don't think that would be comparable considering that the Diablo Immortal fiasco was basically a repeat of the Metroid Prime Federation Force announcement. If anything, more Fates and Awakening recognition would probably be what does it since the fanbase has such a throbbing hate boner for those games and especially 4 characters from them in particular. I'm getting a bag of popcorn ready for when they announce another alt for Camilla and Tharja during the event and everyone there goes nuclear because they aren't from the GBA or Tellius games.
I'm more upset that this was just a port of DXC that seemingly omits the 2.5D redo of RoB and still doesn't include the Saturn content for SotN. Even the Vita and PS TV aren't compatible with DXC for some ungodly reason, so now I have to emulate it after double dipping like a fool if I want to play it on a bigger screen. Once again, another "exclusive" PS4 game I can safely skip and/or play elsewhere.
Small Brain: "Why won't they port to Switch?" Big Brain: "Why won't they remake these games instead?" Galaxy Brain: "Why can't they bring over the Saturn content?" Universe Brain: "Why can't this game I already own run on Vita?"
@joey302 I could've sworn vol. 2 came out on Xbox as well and had Syvalion and G - Darius on it. I'd buy a re-release in a heartbeat since the PC version has that DRM that bricks your computer if you have Windows 10.
