Re: Guide: Which Version Of Fire Emblem Fates Should You Buy?

BRAINFOX

@Fynnez13 If anything, the best choice would be Conquest if only because leaving your adoptive family with their abusive psychopath dad and then killing the lot with the guys that try to kill you when refused seems really off considering how much Corrin hates killing and all that.

Re: Nintendo Confirms its DLC Plans for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

BRAINFOX

@PlywoodStick I'm with ya there. If NX isn't region free, I'm waiting for the inevitable exploit to make it so. Monster Hunter alone won't be able to change my mind like with the Wii U if this is the path they're going down.
@JaxonH At this point, I guarantee the changes are being down because of the people working there genuinely wanting those changes while the higher ups go along with it because of the "wider audience" excuse. It wouldn't shock me since their HQ is in Seattle last I remember and that place is crawling with SJW types.

Re: Nintendo Confirms its DLC Plans for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

BRAINFOX

@PlywoodStick Stop buying from them outright. NISA pulls the exact same crap after doing it three times and flopping miserably for all of them. It comes as no surprise that one of the guys from there now works at Treehouse. Another guy also supports the person that made all of the "gay conversion" rumors about Fire Emblem Fates on Patreon.

Re: Western Localisation Of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Features Costume And Age Changes

BRAINFOX

So they took a fantastic idea like a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem and:
-Made a Persona-lite that has no way to romance characters like the Persona games
-Made it about the idol industry
-Bombed because it was too niche for even the niche audience
-Censored outfits because we- I mean western audiences totally hate stuff like sex and lewdness despite Game of Thrones and those weird kid pageants being popular and this is totally something the mainstream will be all over
-Kept the Japanese dub to be "true" to the original
-Redubbed some lines in said dub to be in line with the changed ages
-Completely changed the whole point of an entire dungeon that was supposed to be about how creepy a gravure photographer is
-Cancelled a DLC pack that had yet another dungeon
and didn't even bother translating what the characters are even saying during battle.
Did anyone think about what they were doing when this was getting made? At this point, I hope the NX is region free or I'll just buy a used one from GameStop and wait until CFW comes out. Nintendo needs to realize who is actually buying these games instead of letting the gender studies kiddies translate the games to pander to themselves.

Re: Atlus Is In Charge Of Localising Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE In The West

BRAINFOX

@SamirMalik It breaks immersion for me when characters are calling each other this-kun, and that-chan as if westerners won't understand how Japanese high schoolers communicate without bits of the language awkwardly injected into the English script/text, especially when countless other franchises do perfectly fine at conveying that without resorting to what we see in the Persona series.
It's not enough to turn me off from a game/manga/series, but it is definitely something I could do without.

Re: Rumour: Voice Acting Audition Hints At Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Sequel

BRAINFOX

@Gauchorino Well I guess there's still that Project Setsuna game to look forward to at least.
@CrazedCavalier I remember Amazon having it listed with a T rating when I checked their page. NoA handling the localization takes away some credibility from that rumor that Atlus was doing it along with the supposed edits, but it wouldn't be surprising if it ended up being true anyways.

Re: Nintendo Life Weekly: Zelda Wii U Rumours Point to Sex Choice in Playable Character

BRAINFOX

I feel like it would be a clever way to have branching paths by choosing to follow 2 different characters going on their own adventures, but I'm prepared for disappointment if it turns out to just be a customization thing. Hopefully Nintendo can avoid a s***storm if it turns out to be just a rumor because they really don't need another helping of the flack they got for Tomodachi Life.

Re: International Game Developers Association Issues Critical Statement Over Nintendo and Alison Rapp

BRAINFOX

@PlywoodStick My guess is that some guys saw that tweet about her making the "Super Spoopy" trailer for Fatal Frame and made the leap that the person that claims to have made the trailer and has made tweets about polyamory and why misandry isn't real in the past must be behind the ridiculous circumstances behind the costume changes. Wouldn't surprise me because of course GG would be stupid enough to target the one person AGAINST censorship while posting screencaps of the NISA guy that worked on Fates and laughing about how he's probably a cuckold on /v/.

Re: Nintendo Issues Statement On Side Quest Changes In Bravely Second

BRAINFOX

I think the issue with all of these censorship controversies is that all of them seem to stem from a pointless change that people join sides over as if to gain the moral high ground for why they're right. I keep seeing people act like removing outfits and stuff is good because "that smut doesn't belong in my games!"/"it makes it more accessible!" while others want it to stay because "games are art and the original should be respected!"/"leave my games alone!". It all comes off as a cheap and shady way of getting free advertisement by changing what doesn't need to be changed instead of actually promoting a game to make more people aware of it. Even worse is that these announcements happen really close to the release dates and if you bought a special edition, you're either "supporting censorship" or letting some GameStop employee pawn it on ebay.
Just look at Fatal Frame V.
-decently niche game
-download only outside a limited edition that only Europe got
-not much marketing
-edited content isn't even usable until after multiple playthroughs besides the cutscene it's from
-the stuff that did stay was more questionable but totally ignored
And yet look at all the attention it got when people found out about some textures getting swapped!

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Finally Has a Release Date and Details for Europe

BRAINFOX

@NinjaWaddleDee I made it as far as the turn right after the water evaporates. Everything was going just as planned until Odin was killed by an Oni Savage. It really sucked because I had my Corrin paired with Camilla tanking everything by the ballista while Niles and Azura were softening up the Sky Knights for Mozu and Effie.

Re: Nintendo Issues Statement Clarifying How 'Petting' Will Work in Fire Emblem Fates

BRAINFOX

@CrazedCavalier I'm well aware of that as Camilla appeared to be the only one that got more assets made for the rubbing minigame in the entire game as evidence that it was meant to go further. I see it as humorous because of how absurd the situation is, much like the Senran Kagura games or that anime ping pong clip on YouTube that pops up after a few related videos. I doubt the devs just made the whole thing just complaining about the otaku ruining everything, so they probably tried to at least have some fun with it.

As far as the puritans vs perverts thing goes, the real problem is the localization industry itself. Too many people in those positions are just changing things for subjective reasons and poorly justifying it by saying it's for the good of the region they're localizing it for. Just look at the flack NISA got for Mugen Souls, Criminal Girls, or the Disgaea series. Loads of pointless, unnecessary edits made just because they didn't like a feature or "like spice with their meals" and they were defended for it. The same is true for Nintendo even more because the changes are impossible to object to without being strawmanned as a pervert, the game will sell anyways because only those in the know are aware of it happening (except Fatal Frame because that ship was sank before shipping off), and the parent company will allow it to keep their name clean.

Re: Let's Clarify Exactly How the Fire Emblem Fates 'Skinship' Mode Works in North America

BRAINFOX

@RGnsd It's really more double standards than cultural differences. Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, and the Mass Effect series have much more sexually explicit content than a lot of Japanese games people freak out over here in the west, yet this stuff is what really rustles some jimmies. The art style is my guess for why people think that stuff like Senran Kagura and the petting in Fire Emblem are more questionable than actual sex scenes with visible genitalia. Also it's a game made by Nintendo, so that doubles that controversy as well.
If anything, Nintendo needs to establish a front for the games they want to release, but don't want to soil the family friendly image they keep trying to uphold like what Disney did with Touchstone or Miramax.

Re: Here's Exactly What Has Changed With Fire Emblem Fates' "Skinship" Petting Mode

BRAINFOX

@AlexSora89 I feel like the main reason people are siding with the changes is because of news outlets making it seem like they are right to do so. I remember the Fatal Frame V bonus costumes change had "Out with the smut" or something like that as the article tagline on here and people were acting like it was unlike a Tecmo Koei game to ever have something like that even in a Nintendo published game looks at Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

Re: Here's Exactly What Has Changed With Fire Emblem Fates' "Skinship" Petting Mode

BRAINFOX

@crystalorbie I hear ya. The main reason I'm bummed about it being removed is the loss of trying to come up with the context for these characters coming into Corrin's room for a face rubbing. I could just imagine Corrin faking an assassination attempt to get Xander's attention and burst into his room only to hear "Enjoy your face rubbing bro." before the minigame starts and Xander just stands there taking it with an annoyed look on his face.
Lack of dual audio also sucks because the Japanese have an all star dub and we get barely any word on who's voicing who.
@bitleman There is also a massive amount of female otaku as well and many subdivisions of it too. I remember the director (or maybe writer) of Persona 2 Innocent Sin mentioning that Jun was included as a possible love interest to pander to the fujoshi crowd.

Re: Here's Exactly What Has Changed With Fire Emblem Fates' "Skinship" Petting Mode

BRAINFOX

@Coldpancakes I'm against the changes because I don't want the kind of people that think "I don't like it, so nobody should!" deciding what does and doesn't go through localization. I could care less if what's happening is "cringey" or "creepy" because I'm playing a 3DS game featuring anime characters and cheesy dialogue about friendship and bonds and war. I'm not playing this in public or while the family is around, I'm playing it when I'm alone with nothing to distract me so I can take in the whole experience or with friends that also enjoy this stuff for fun and discussing all the stuff we did in our playthroughs.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Removes 'Petting' Feature in Western Localisation

BRAINFOX

@Ensemen
They never should have put in the feature to begin with, but removing actual gameplay content - regardless of what it is - entirely and (probably) not replacing it with anything is some NISA tier BS. I can guarantee every last one of the people saying it's "creepy" and "disturbing" would be using this feature for laughs and posting screencaps of them rubbing Marx/Xander's face on Miiverse had it not been removed.
As for cancelled preorders, at least those looking for the special editions will probably have a better chance at finding one now.

Re: Hands On: Seeking an Awakening in Fire Emblem Fates

BRAINFOX

@Seacliff
If you still have a 10.3 3DS or CFW, you can just unlock the region on it. The bad thing about the fan translation is how rushed it is, so you would probably be better off just learning the language for it. It's terrible that we have to do all that just to get an uncut experience, but it's at least an option.
