@Fynnez13 If anything, the best choice would be Conquest if only because leaving your adoptive family with their abusive psychopath dad and then killing the lot with the guys that try to kill you when refused seems really off considering how much Corrin hates killing and all that.
I apologize on behalf of the American people for the crap that the fans in Europe have to deal with regarding localization changes. NoE never should've shut down their team.
@PlywoodStick I'm with ya there. If NX isn't region free, I'm waiting for the inevitable exploit to make it so. Monster Hunter alone won't be able to change my mind like with the Wii U if this is the path they're going down. @JaxonH At this point, I guarantee the changes are being down because of the people working there genuinely wanting those changes while the higher ups go along with it because of the "wider audience" excuse. It wouldn't shock me since their HQ is in Seattle last I remember and that place is crawling with SJW types.
@PlywoodStick Stop buying from them outright. NISA pulls the exact same crap after doing it three times and flopping miserably for all of them. It comes as no surprise that one of the guys from there now works at Treehouse. Another guy also supports the person that made all of the "gay conversion" rumors about Fire Emblem Fates on Patreon.
@Ogbert @Alundra-1998 I feel like them making less has to be the reason. I know a lot of people try scalping and all that, but even then, these LEs run out absurdly fast. The only other times I've seen one run out near instantly was the MGSV one with the little hand and the FFXV Ultimate Edition that I mentioned in my other comment.
@RoomB31 A bit of both because Nintendo of Japan actually did it due to fan demand and it led to more sales while everyone out in the west was left to scramble for them. There is no excuse for this to be happening when even Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bravely Default, and TMS had more stock put up for people that wanted their LEs.
Square Enix:

@naut @Adamario Notice how the priorities of "localization" put censoring now 18 year olds' costumes and even having the cast re-record their lines above translating their battle quotes or even the text in the advertisement that features Tsubasa's new design. Also, poor Atlus seems to have thrown under the bus here: http://archive.is/peu33 http://archive.is/aGNAm
So they took a fantastic idea like a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem and: -Made a Persona-lite that has no way to romance characters like the Persona games -Made it about the idol industry -Bombed because it was too niche for even the niche audience -Censored outfits because we- I mean western audiences totally hate stuff like sex and lewdness despite Game of Thrones and those weird kid pageants being popular and this is totally something the mainstream will be all over -Kept the Japanese dub to be "true" to the original -Redubbed some lines in said dub to be in line with the changed ages -Completely changed the whole point of an entire dungeon that was supposed to be about how creepy a gravure photographer is -Cancelled a DLC pack that had yet another dungeon and didn't even bother translating what the characters are even saying during battle. Did anyone think about what they were doing when this was getting made? At this point, I hope the NX is region free or I'll just buy a used one from GameStop and wait until CFW comes out. Nintendo needs to realize who is actually buying these games instead of letting the gender studies kiddies translate the games to pander to themselves.
@SamirMalik It breaks immersion for me when characters are calling each other this-kun, and that-chan as if westerners won't understand how Japanese high schoolers communicate without bits of the language awkwardly injected into the English script/text, especially when countless other franchises do perfectly fine at conveying that without resorting to what we see in the Persona series. It's not enough to turn me off from a game/manga/series, but it is definitely something I could do without.
Huh, I could've sworn I saw them in one of the trailers. Ever since I started the Persona games a few years back and this was revealed to be more in line with them, I had the fear that they would get left in.
So from what I can tell, it'll have illogical censorship AND cringeworthy honorifics left in the dialog. At least this time the only dub is in Japanese, so I don't have to hear NAHNAWKO-CHAHN...NAHNAWKO-CHAHN and cringe when it's supposed to be a serious moment.
@Gauchorino Well I guess there's still that Project Setsuna game to look forward to at least. @CrazedCavalier I remember Amazon having it listed with a T rating when I checked their page. NoA handling the localization takes away some credibility from that rumor that Atlus was doing it along with the supposed edits, but it wouldn't be surprising if it ended up being true anyways.
@japongt Isn't Atlus doing the localization? Granted Nintendo is publishing, but Atlus doesn't really have much of a reputation for the kind of crap Treehouse and 8-4 have pulled in recent years outside of Dungeon Travellers 2.
@Gauchorino I'm going to laugh if the games that got localization controversies ended up getting "Director's Cut" editions on NX with all the removed stuff being part of the new features. @Angelic_Lapras_King Wait, Chrono Trigger got a direct sequel?!?
I feel like it would be a clever way to have branching paths by choosing to follow 2 different characters going on their own adventures, but I'm prepared for disappointment if it turns out to just be a customization thing. Hopefully Nintendo can avoid a s***storm if it turns out to be just a rumor because they really don't need another helping of the flack they got for Tomodachi Life.
@PlywoodStick My guess is that some guys saw that tweet about her making the "Super Spoopy" trailer for Fatal Frame and made the leap that the person that claims to have made the trailer and has made tweets about polyamory and why misandry isn't real in the past must be behind the ridiculous circumstances behind the costume changes. Wouldn't surprise me because of course GG would be stupid enough to target the one person AGAINST censorship while posting screencaps of the NISA guy that worked on Fates and laughing about how he's probably a cuckold on /v/.
I think the issue with all of these censorship controversies is that all of them seem to stem from a pointless change that people join sides over as if to gain the moral high ground for why they're right. I keep seeing people act like removing outfits and stuff is good because "that smut doesn't belong in my games!"/"it makes it more accessible!" while others want it to stay because "games are art and the original should be respected!"/"leave my games alone!". It all comes off as a cheap and shady way of getting free advertisement by changing what doesn't need to be changed instead of actually promoting a game to make more people aware of it. Even worse is that these announcements happen really close to the release dates and if you bought a special edition, you're either "supporting censorship" or letting some GameStop employee pawn it on ebay. Just look at Fatal Frame V. -decently niche game -download only outside a limited edition that only Europe got -not much marketing -edited content isn't even usable until after multiple playthroughs besides the cutscene it's from -the stuff that did stay was more questionable but totally ignored And yet look at all the attention it got when people found out about some textures getting swapped!
@NinjaWaddleDee You can do that? I'm doing Hard Classic (to bring glory to Nohr, of course) right now, so I'm not sure if that's possible on this difficulty. All I get during battles is the Bookmark option which is really just a temp save.
@NinjaWaddleDee I made it as far as the turn right after the water evaporates. Everything was going just as planned until Odin was killed by an Oni Savage. It really sucked because I had my Corrin paired with Camilla tanking everything by the ballista while Niles and Azura were softening up the Sky Knights for Mozu and Effie.
@NinjaWaddleDee What chapter are you on? Everyone kind of dies no matter what I do in 10. Not even Boo Camp can be beaten without someone eating a fist of death.
@ASonic3582 The VC versions are the same as the original releases, right down to the glitches as well. Nobody is flipping over that because it was known about for years by now.
Well complaining won't do anything to stop all this slippery slope garbage. Anybody want to squad up and make the most boundary pushing Nintendo exclusive games the ESRB will allow? If they're going to start changing our games, then we'll just make our own!
@CrazedCavalier I'm well aware of that as Camilla appeared to be the only one that got more assets made for the rubbing minigame in the entire game as evidence that it was meant to go further. I see it as humorous because of how absurd the situation is, much like the Senran Kagura games or that anime ping pong clip on YouTube that pops up after a few related videos. I doubt the devs just made the whole thing just complaining about the otaku ruining everything, so they probably tried to at least have some fun with it.
As far as the puritans vs perverts thing goes, the real problem is the localization industry itself. Too many people in those positions are just changing things for subjective reasons and poorly justifying it by saying it's for the good of the region they're localizing it for. Just look at the flack NISA got for Mugen Souls, Criminal Girls, or the Disgaea series. Loads of pointless, unnecessary edits made just because they didn't like a feature or "like spice with their meals" and they were defended for it. The same is true for Nintendo even more because the changes are impossible to object to without being strawmanned as a pervert, the game will sell anyways because only those in the know are aware of it happening (except Fatal Frame because that ship was sank before shipping off), and the parent company will allow it to keep their name clean.
@able_to_think I feel like it was done purely for laughs over there. Shame it got removed just because the translators found it creepy because I wanted to give big bro Marx / Xander a good face rub. Guess I'll wait for the undub/censor patch and finish Awakening in the meantime.
@crimsontadpoles I'm more bummed about the stupid name changes and lack of dual audio. Japan has Solid Snake voicing Garon and we get Kanami from the Persona 4 dancing game as Azura/Aqua.
@RGnsd It's really more double standards than cultural differences. Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, and the Mass Effect series have much more sexually explicit content than a lot of Japanese games people freak out over here in the west, yet this stuff is what really rustles some jimmies. The art style is my guess for why people think that stuff like Senran Kagura and the petting in Fire Emblem are more questionable than actual sex scenes with visible genitalia. Also it's a game made by Nintendo, so that doubles that controversy as well. If anything, Nintendo needs to establish a front for the games they want to release, but don't want to soil the family friendly image they keep trying to uphold like what Disney did with Touchstone or Miramax.
@AlexSora89 I feel like the main reason people are siding with the changes is because of news outlets making it seem like they are right to do so. I remember the Fatal Frame V bonus costumes change had "Out with the smut" or something like that as the article tagline on here and people were acting like it was unlike a Tecmo Koei game to ever have something like that even in a Nintendo published game looks at Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.
@crystalorbie I hear ya. The main reason I'm bummed about it being removed is the loss of trying to come up with the context for these characters coming into Corrin's room for a face rubbing. I could just imagine Corrin faking an assassination attempt to get Xander's attention and burst into his room only to hear "Enjoy your face rubbing bro." before the minigame starts and Xander just stands there taking it with an annoyed look on his face. Lack of dual audio also sucks because the Japanese have an all star dub and we get barely any word on who's voicing who. @bitleman There is also a massive amount of female otaku as well and many subdivisions of it too. I remember the director (or maybe writer) of Persona 2 Innocent Sin mentioning that Jun was included as a possible love interest to pander to the fujoshi crowd.
@Coldpancakes I'm against the changes because I don't want the kind of people that think "I don't like it, so nobody should!" deciding what does and doesn't go through localization. I could care less if what's happening is "cringey" or "creepy" because I'm playing a 3DS game featuring anime characters and cheesy dialogue about friendship and bonds and war. I'm not playing this in public or while the family is around, I'm playing it when I'm alone with nothing to distract me so I can take in the whole experience or with friends that also enjoy this stuff for fun and discussing all the stuff we did in our playthroughs.
Why did they remove it? Do we really want the protagonist of Assassin's Creed 3 to be the most recent representation of Native Americans in video games?
@Ensemen They never should have put in the feature to begin with, but removing actual gameplay content - regardless of what it is - entirely and (probably) not replacing it with anything is some NISA tier BS. I can guarantee every last one of the people saying it's "creepy" and "disturbing" would be using this feature for laughs and posting screencaps of them rubbing Marx/Xander's face on Miiverse had it not been removed. As for cancelled preorders, at least those looking for the special editions will probably have a better chance at finding one now.
@Seacliff If you still have a 10.3 3DS or CFW, you can just unlock the region on it. The bad thing about the fan translation is how rushed it is, so you would probably be better off just learning the language for it. It's terrible that we have to do all that just to get an uncut experience, but it's at least an option.
Friendly reminder that Senran Kagura Burst had skimpier outfits and even more lewd stuff going on with similarly aged characters and STILL got a T rating. We need to stop enabling censorship before it gets back to 90's localization standards.
@manu0 Good thing there's a translation that's going along well. I might just buy Fates and make a big stink about the awful memeing on Miiverse while I play the fan English patch on my other 3DS. I just hope NX will be region free so I can actively avoid reading the tripe they pass off as localization in the future.
@geheimxy I'm pretty sure it's because there's "feminists" or whatever in the localization team. Tecmo should've just done the translation themselves and spared everyone this fiasco.
@Savino Not the only thing changed. Film grain effect is gone, some lines are changed and/or removed entirely, and one of the scenes (flashback of a 30 year old woman doing a swimsuit shoot on a beach) was edited.
I don't see why they felt it necessary to go in and replace some swimsuits that you can only use after beating the game multiple times when it wouldn't even be considered problematic in a T rated game. Freaking NISA of all companies had a bunny girl outfit as a preorder bonus for Disgaea 5!

@Luneth This is why I make sure to support XSEED whenever I can.
Re: Nintendo Is Making Female Characters Cover Up For The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X
Friendly reminder that Senran Kagura Burst had skimpier outfits and even more lewd stuff going on with similarly aged characters and STILL got a T rating. We need to stop enabling censorship before it gets back to 90's localization standards.
Re: Project Guard and Fire Emblem Fates Provide Oddities in Nintendo's Upcoming Game Schedule Details
Re: Project Guard and Fire Emblem Fates Provide Oddities in Nintendo's Upcoming Game Schedule Details
@FierceRagnar I'm more worried about stuff getting changed in localization after seeing how far some of the stuff goes in the Japanese versions.
Re: Yes, Fatal Frame's Lingerie Outfits Have Been Removed From The Western Version
Time to spam the Miiverse for them to fix this. Costumes be damned, I want the film grain effect back!
Re: Yes, Fatal Frame's Lingerie Outfits Have Been Removed From The Western Version
@geheimxy I'm pretty sure it's because there's "feminists" or whatever in the localization team. Tecmo should've just done the translation themselves and spared everyone this fiasco.
Re: Yes, Fatal Frame's Lingerie Outfits Have Been Removed From The Western Version
@Savino Not the only thing changed. Film grain effect is gone, some lines are changed and/or removed entirely, and one of the scenes (flashback of a 30 year old woman doing a swimsuit shoot on a beach) was edited.
Re: Yes, Fatal Frame's Lingerie Outfits Have Been Removed From The Western Version
I don't see why they felt it necessary to go in and replace some swimsuits that you can only use after beating the game multiple times when it wouldn't even be considered problematic in a T rated game. Freaking NISA of all companies had a bunny girl outfit as a preorder bonus for Disgaea 5!
