Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Confirmed As The First Switch 2 Title To Use Nvidia's DLSS Upscaling

8thDoctor

Since the tv modes don't change resolution, I wonder if they're solely a case of switching DLSS from "quality" to "performance" mode just to hit the higher frame rate, or if there's other changes going on.
I'm a bit worried about how low the internal res will be in that upscaled 720p-40fps mode, upscaler limits really start rearing their heads when they have to work from really low resolutions.

Re: Opinion: The Switch 2 Is A Powerhouse For The Price

8thDoctor

@TheMisterManGuy why are you bringing in the very hypothetical GTA6 price in here? For all we know Take-2 is as likely to charge $120 up-front as they are to sell it for $60 to get more people in the door to up-sell shark cards. GTA's price is a moot point until R* or Take-2 talks about it.

Re: Opinion: The Switch 2 Is A Powerhouse For The Price

8thDoctor

The price is more competitive when you compare it to other tablets & handhelds, particularly for the screen specs, the Nvidia tech & what comes in the box. The base iPad is the same price (for equivalent storage), Apple & Samsung outright won't sell you a120hz tablet unless you pay $1000.
The big question is if Nintendo will push for S2 to be a bigger multi-media machine? it really needs the big streaming services if they want it to serve as people's primary device.

Re: Mario Kart World "Paid DLC" Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo

8thDoctor

The idea of a Zelda pack, with a whole (yet smaller) Hyrule map and a bunch of Zelda characters is something many would actually pay for. That's a $30-40 expansion right there. lol

I fully expect themed Expansions during MKW's lifetime, given how well received the guest characters in 8 were. By the end it will be more of a "Nintendo Kart World" than Mario Kart..

Re: Opinion: Oh No, I'm Not A Fan Of Switch 2's Mouse Mode At All

8thDoctor

I don't think the use case for this joy-con feature will improve outside of certain games where the change-up is useful for certain actions (menu navigation in Cyberpunk is going to be so much better with this), but for mouse heavy games like strategy, point&click and shooters, people that really care will just hook up a proper mouse to the Switch and use that.

Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted

8thDoctor

I get why it has a whole paragraph at the bottom, unlike PS4 game that come with a free PS5 upgrade (small bubble above the rating informs you) or a PS5 box with a PS5 disc, they're selling you an aggressively S2 box with a S1 cart and an extra S2 upgrade code, so a big disclaimer is warranted. Seriously the red box and 2 giant "Switch 2" banners are like Nintendo screaming at you it's S2.
If they didn't want to bother with the hassle of S1 & S2 carts then just go the Xbox way of having a singular box with a "Series S/X enhanced" label on it and the console is smart enough to download the correct version depending on your Xbox.

Re: Hands On: Mario Kart World Brings The Utter Chaos In Knockout Mode

8thDoctor

It looks awesome, it's basically Forza Horizon or The Crew: Mario Edition! I prefer racing games that work in closed circuits where I do my laps and that's it, heck MK8 bothered me that you have to fire up a whole Grand Prix to play rather than picking single tracks, so I'm likely never going to get it, but it really looks slick.

Re: After Copying Smash's Homework, MultiVersus Publisher Was Apparently Turning To Mario Kart Next

8thDoctor

Multiversus was really fun to play, but man was it GaaS hell with how expensive everything was to get. It just deflated the whole package because it drowned the solid core gameplay.
Can't believe they never added Daffy Duck to the game, the 2nd biggest Looney Tune character; a Daffy-Porky duo (the Duck Dodgers cartoon skin would have gone crazy) in the style of the new cartoons would have been an extremely fun character to play, like Tom-Jerry.

Re: Inside Dev Threatens Legal Action Against Studio Co-Founder As "Bullying" Allegations Arise

8thDoctor

It's a pic about a 15 year old game he clearly played a fairly big part in getting made as a co-founder, these adult men have been feuding for 9 years and given PlayDate's nonexistent output since, I'm tempted to believe Jensen has been a bit sidetracked by this beef.
Aside from the cringe aspect of actually using LinkedIn social media aspect, artists should be able to share celebration of their past project and they generally do. This is nothing new particularly using publicly available art or images of the game.

Re: Pokémon Champions Limited To "Select Pokémon" At Launch

8thDoctor

@PokeMadness1996 for this 1 specific game it does matter because this is exclusively about the battles. There's no lore, no grand story, no vibes from the journey; just a clean, no nonsense 2v2 turn based-battle game, so yeah I think this game would warrant a bit more detail put into the battles from models to animations.

Re: Capcom Is Relying On Monster Hunter To Achieve Its FY2025 Financial Goals

8thDoctor

Not every year is going to be a top year, still good possibility we get another RERemake or RE9 near the end of fiscal year to give it a push near the end.
Switch 2 is VERY likely to get proper ports for RE2R, RE3R, RE4R, RE7 AND RE8 in short order which will undoubtedly bring in some healthy revenue for a fairly low investment, since full-fat RE engine already runs on ARM thanks to the iOS/Mac ports.

Re: PSA: Trading Is Finally Live In Pokémon TCG Pocket, But It's A Real Headache

8thDoctor

It's unbelievably constricted & convoluted. You have to pick a friend first, then select one of your cards, then pray to Arceus that they decide to offer a card you want or that the card you offered even interests them in the first place.
The game should show you your friends card and allow you to pick one you want (assuming they have at least 3 of them), then your friend sees your collection of same rarity cards and picks which they want.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Pins Hopes On Familiar Fun With Switch 2

8thDoctor

@-wc- I'd love it if my Switch Lite could dock, I got no problem buying a separate Lite Dock and Pro controller afterwards, but Nintendo has to think of the common denominator and about price. The family that will buy the console box for their kid & expect everything they need to run the hardware to come bundled in, it's easier to have removable controllers than to add a $70 extra in the box.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Pins Hopes On Familiar Fun With Switch 2

8thDoctor

You're limited by having to bring everything in the box, including being able to do everything while connected to a TV or on the go, and pricing is a concern. I just don't see how they innovate or do something unique without making a pure portable or home-console. Maybe when tech like foldable screens become cheap & resilient enough to be an option we'll get a breakthrough.

This is not a DSi or New 3DS thing, where everything works with the old model & just has a couple bells & whistles if you play it on the new 1. More like a NES to SNES, GB/C to GBA, DS to 3DS, a straightforward sequel to the previous model, with the mouse thing being the little extra that adds some spice.
